I see myself as a human animal & through my creative practices seek to connect to the flow of life to let my innate intuition guide me before my logical mind controls me. To undo or at least side-step some of my cultural conditioning so the spirits of the place I am in can express through me. This forest I am in, the rock I sit on beside this stream, the footpath below my feet, this vast planet we all live upon. The natural world so often unconsidered, ignored, I aim to give it some voice.

....this week you record a solo piece of music, not a complete piece, but a piece that will be added to, potentially, by other musicians over the following two weeks. Next week, many if not most of the tracks recorded this week will become duets, thanks to the additions by musicians other than yourself — again, with space left intentionally. Then finally two weeks from now, other musicians will add something else, completing a trio....

Early morning I walked up into the bush, with my clarinet, flute and a sound recorder. I pressed record and walked through the trees across the side of the valley to play clarinet from a distance, silenced my mind a aimed to let the trees speak through the clarinet. Then reversed positions with the recorder and tried to 'talk' with the birds.

A Trio with Fake Genius and Isonomnia, thanks for the inspiration! https://soundcloud.com/isonomia/birds-sing-in-the-trees-disquiet0526 https://soundcloud.com/fake-genius/disquiet0525-dm-stereo
I started by listening to last weeks tunes whilst driving to the local store, I started singing along with Birds Sing In The Trees, by the time I got behind a microphone later that night, the exact words had disappeared, yet the bones of the melody could be recalled, I did 5 layers of vocals, 1st take for each, during the recording I was thinking of an image seen that day of men hunting grouse with big guns and how birds are not safe in this human world. A little bit of editing and some mixing mainly with various console channel emulations with a bit of extra saturation, then finding the best balance with the bed track.

As i was awakening on Sunday morning this challenge came to mind. Before getting out of bed I planned the bass drum sound and the long sax notes. Whilst working on getting the bass drum right my 6 year old daughter came in and sat on my lap, after a while she said 'this needs bells' so we chose a bell sound. Later after breakfast I recorded the 3 layers of Tenor Sax each layer with a different sound through a digitech guitar pedal. Then the bells came in. The next day some mixing tweaks and the rim shot happened.

Radiation by Benn DeMole Featuring remixes by Finn Rhodes, Miramorf and Circada
An album of Psychedelic Ambient Glitch with isotopes of Industrial, Psy Chill, and Sacred Bass. Music that touches deep emotions with the use of unique sound figures.
Using computer data manipulation and breath through instruments and vocal cords, Benn DeMole has created sonic artefacts to illuminate some of the heavier elements in the periodic table. The large molecular elements of Plutonium 240, Promethium 145 and Actinium 225 are also given new forms into other isotope remixes (147Pm -Finn Rhodes, 244Pu -Miramorf & 227Ac -Circada). They all sit between the molecularly less-heavy yet still radioactive Strontium 90.

As part of World Listening Day I became silent to make a piece by lying down and meditating whilst listening to my breath with a microphone and headphones. Enter the field by connecting to my heart first, listen, feel, sense the collective field and let any sound be added to my breathing. Record what happens and make a piece of sound art with the raw material channeled.

My favourite music to listen/sleep to on planes was the Future Sounds of London's Lifeforms album, just enough melodies and rhythms to carry me away from my economy seat and enough found-sound to let any cabin noise blend in without waking me. This is a lot simpler, yet with the same intent.

"Deep is The Heart" a poem by Benn DeMole.
Background sounds from Swambi: https://benndemole.bandcamp.com/album/nonsilence-beats-under-heat-volume-4
In the high reaches of the Andes Mountains between the volcanoes and the salt desserts lies a very peculiar canyon named Salcaryuni. Deep, narrow and riddled with caves along the walls, sound echoes in strange ways here. In 2017 a group of experimental composition student from Universities in Bolivia and Argentina turned Salcaryuni into the largest 'harp' ever made. “El Cañonarpa” was constructed by finding some of the most resonous parts of the rocky walls and attaching cables and wires of various thicknesses across to the other side. These giant harp strings also had vibrating circles of metals positioned at particular places along them that helped with the tuning and added a certain texture to the sound. Seven of these Cañonarpa strings were put in place, it was a massive project that took a team of over twenty people 3 weeks to complete. Part of the construction involved the positioning of long tubes that rise to the top of the canyon, this allowed the strings were played by dropping fist sized rock down them to strike the strings. The rehearsals for the first performance, this Étude for El Cañonarpa took another 5 days, the timing of the dropping of the rocks to stay in rhythm was particularly tricky with a team of 3 people at the top of each tube and flashing beacon light on the other side of the canyon setting the tempo. We are lucky to have a recording of this first performance of El Cañonarpa, that had an audience of about 50 at the bottom of canyon. More pieces have been written for El Cañonarpa, including a concerto with an orchestra, however due to the difficult location of El Cañonarpa securing funding for the performance and recording of more pieces is a slow process. Enjoy this rare recording of Étude for El Cañonarpa.

"Compose a short piece of music using only sine waves and the surface sounds of vinyl played on a turntable."
Part of the Disquiet Junto composing group.
Not currently having a turntable in the house I turned to the net and found this wonderful collection of vinyl sounds: http://99sounds.org/vinyl-noise-sfx/ Thanks Chia!
I found some rhythmic activity that inspired me in the collection so pulled some into Ableton and started playing, before long a bass was needed, hello sine wave.
The command "Before proceeding, consider the sort of music that might be conducive as partially-heard, partially-background music for an art event” had made me think of bits of melodies poking up so added some more sines as chimes and some bits of melodies.

Created in response to a poem and a sad part of history.
"Poisoned Waterhole: Violent disregard echoes. Keenly felt today."
by Peita Vincent
This poem and history has particular personal significance for me. The being a white man as part of a land that was so violently colonized has been part of my journey of knowing myself: the sadness and guilt and anger and activism and acceptance and hope and connection and clearing and love.
One of the strange ancestral parallels that have been for me: My great-grandmother lived in Narrandera, my grandmother grew up in the street that led to the town-camp for the local black fellas. My friend Kaleena Briggs' family are also from that country too. In the early 2000's I recorded her band Stiff Gins ( https://www.facebook.com/stiffgins/ ) first album and accompanied them on their first international tour, both of us unaware that our families once lived near each other. I like to dream that our great-grandmothers might even have played together....
The ideas for this piece began with thinking of the wailing for the dead, then I began wailing through my sax so recorded that. That night we had a bonfire and I recorded it's crackling, with the thought to slow it right down. The next night I put them together also manipulating some of the sax and adding delay's (echos) and once the bed was made I wailed with my voice for four breaths.

"Record a piece of music that that is inspired by the constituent elements in (the various facets of) an eclipse, what it means in terms of sensory experience — in cultures ancient and contemporary."
I was just about to have a quick saxophone practice when I read the instructions for this weeks Disquiet Junto. Then the idea of doing a response just with the sax appeared. I set up some mics and started playing with the thought to record a bunch of stuff then layer/loop it later. So each layer was recorded without listening to the others. The basic idea that evolved whilst playing was to start with a bunch of loops playing symbolizing the chaotic busy world with everyone doing their thing, then all slowing and becoming aware of the eclipse and having a time of reflection and release, then as the light returns getting back into the day yet a bit lighter and more in tune with each other. Minor before the eclipse changing to Major during and after.
I adjusted a photo by Jason Blackeye on Unsplash, thank you.

Waking early I took myself and a flute down to the beautiful creek. After an hour of Chi Gung I sat next to the creek and thought of everyone I have ever met all around the world, everyone that I have smiled at, that I have shared a space, a room, a plane, that I have walked passed in the street and everyone that all those people love, and everyone else in the world where I have never been. I will play for you. Then I pressed record...

Talking to the drone. Chose to plug a mic into modularland, mainly Mutable Instruments Clouds, then out into DOD VGS50 guitar pedal board, then into LogicX. Levels low and noisy yet too late at night to bother fiddling with it too much. Played [https://soundcloud.com/papernoise/kurodama-half-a-duet-disquiet0269] though a couple of times whilst getting it set up, then was happy with the first take, adjusted the levels and added a touch of reverb. Thank you Kurodama for the jamming fun!

This piece was created in response to the Haiku by Amy Lowell:
The chirping of crickets in the night Is intermittent, Like the twinkling of stars.
As part of the 161st Haiku challenge by Naviar Records.
It was recorded on a Zoom H6, which was pointed into the orchard whilst I sat on the balcony listening to the night, looking at the sky and playing flute. One take, no edits, just some compression and a touch of reverb added.
Create a piece of music using only two provided samples......
I used Photosounder to stretch the Nebelhorn sample to 3 minutes as well as a subby version of the same. Then in Logic actually got inspired by the clicks at the end of the Distant Train sample, Found a loop, made a kick thing from the subby version of Nebelhorn, Made a beat. Layered what I had and arranged it all making adjustments, including using Fracture on the adjusted loop. Made and instrument using Alchemy from the Nebelhorn played that in. Mixed and mastered it.
Thanks to Thomas Wolter for the image I remixed: https://pixabay.com/en/railway-black-and-white-301155/

When first thinking about this project I had two ideas. One was to use Photosounder to make an ambient piece that was identical forwards and backwards, maybe using the image with this weeks challenge as part of it. The other was to write a simple melody that would sound good forwards and backwards. Taking "Never odd or even" as a palindrome would mean that the spaces between the letters (or notes) don't have to be the same, which gives some space for creative interpretation of the melody. In the end I used both ideas. Working in LogicX on a piano I composed a melody that I liked both forward and backwards, which I then recorded. I then used Sculpture, Chomaphone2 and ES1 to layer up a sound and tweaked the timing of the melody to work better with the new sounds. Then needing an ambience to place this melody in I opened the building image in Photosounds and played with the settings until it was kinda in tune with the melody and in time with the whole piece then added that in. Little bit of mixing and that's it.

Step 2: Record a simple, rhythmic piece of music increases speed as it proceeds. First it will double, then it will quadruple, and then it will sextuple. (It can do this once, or it can do it in repeating cycles.)
So I sampled myself, from my 2009 album "Ciudades Del Alma". A groovy Sax jam, slowed it down to speed it up then sped it up to too much. Following instructions.

This piece was created, recorded live playing one long low D on a Roland Juno-D while manipulating the Filter Cutoff, Resonance and LFO Speed and Depth.
I had a Jam with my mate Manny (https://soundcloud.com/alayasounds) on Sunday night, me on Sax and FX, him on modular synth and Elektron keys. On Monday between meetings and work I edited this together from the raw material of our first jam. Stretched/looped a long sax note to make the drone then found another bit of sax that was percussive and looped that and had it fading up then added a section of the synths. Automated some filters on the drone so it faded away and then found another bit of sax and synth that ended it well.

Thank you 337is, Ohm Research and tretschinken from giving permission to derive from your derivations of:
“HNY” off the album Wormbole by ʞık (Karl & Karlik) and “Pepper Jelly” off the album Recombinations by Andre Darius and Riley Theodore and “Autista 3” off the album Autista by Pablo Reche
I was inspired by the depth and spaciousness of 337is's work then built up the loop from there with bits and pieces from the others and made an instrument by sampling Ohm Research.

I had a different plan. Then whilst playing with a sample made something that kinda looked like the first part of the score, so went with it. It ended up being a very slow reading of Design 1, Yet I tried to maintain constant guidance from the score. Thanks Mr Nelson for the inspiration!

Short time, love contemporary dance composition, have to do something. I found a little piece of public domain Mozart the other day and grabbed it for sampling. So thought I'd chuck it into Photosounder and have a play. Made two levels and then combined them in Logic with EQ and FX.

Upon reading this weeks instructions I thought I'd record some of the beautiful morning birds around me here and add some synths inspired by their singing. Then a different idea happened which was to orchestrate some classical instruments to make a slowly building lovely major chord. Then I started working and this is what came out. Done in LogicX with an EastWest sample library and a little bit of mixing and mastering.

One take, no edits just top and tailed. H6 zoom recorder in a not so quiet room, I'm breathing while seeing in my mind a dance telling a story on a stage. A little bit of post production EQ, reverb and mastering. Unfortunately didn't read the instructions closely enough to remember 5 minutes...and have had the time to rework it so is a bit short.

A collaboration with Charles Lindsay from the SETI Instiute who provided the original field recordings.
I used only the 3 source recordings, sampled, manipulated, FXed, layered and played.
Using the Iris2 sampler I found some interesting sounds in the high frequencies of the Quantum Computer that established a nice rhythm once pitched down a few octaves. To this I added samples and loops from the underwater recording. Some other communities of sound were created by effecting the rain forest and the underwater. The melody in the middle was created by sampling the D-WAVE2 again isolating the main mid-freq with the Iris2 sampler then playing it on the keyboard. The subby intro and outro, the place from where we go into the machine, is a filter on the D-Wave recording.

I then arranged these in Logic X and used bits to create rhythms. Then as time was short it was loop o'clock, using UVI World Traditions, and the apple loops in Logic. The industrial machines at the end I made a few years ago for a theater show, yet unused.
The sounds in this piece were recorded in China, Australia, Brazil, Ecuador, USA, Spain, England, Netherlands, India, Poland and Belgium, maybe more... : )

Thought I wouldn't make this one until the clock above the bed of the friends house we are sleeping in inspired me, and then my lady started dancing to the clock... After finding and layering loops from those two works I thought about how to 'glue' them together and decided that some live Saxophone should do it. I recorded it with intention to get a nice breathy sound that would mix well with the loop from 337is. Found a scale that suited both loops and improvised along with them.... I found a loop i liked in “DSM III – The Cristalline Entity”, then put the same sample into Iris2 and made the wooden bell thing and created the bass part and the melody from that. I sampled a section of “Underground Shelter” for the high frequency stuff. "World of Ice and Snow, Part 1" became the glitchy stuff by using the "slice to MIDI" function in Ableton and adding some FX. After playing to a friend and him saying he thought a beat was going to drop I made a kick drum our of “Underground Shelter” in another Iris sampler.
