The room wasn’t full, but the sound was. As our small congregation sang “It Is Well with My Soul,” the harmonies rose like a river and something sacred brushed the air. That moment sparked a deep dive into the real story behind the hymn, the raw grief that birthed it, and the resilient hope it still offers to anyone standing in the waves.

We walk through Horatio Spafford’s cascading losses—the Great Chicago Fire, the death of his son, the shipwreck that claimed his four daughters—and how, on a grief-marked voyage, he penned words that neither deny sorrow nor bow to it. From “when sorrows like sea billows roll” to the promise that faith will become sight, we explore why this hymn endures across traditions: it names reality and then anchors the heart in God’s unchanging presence. Along the way, we unpack the difference between worldly peace (the storm must stop) and God’s peace (I am held in the storm), and we point to Revelation’s vision where every tear is wiped away.

You’ll hear practices for making the hymn your own: naming your pain without comparison, anchoring in scripture and prayer when emotions surge, and rehearsing hope until the refrain takes root. We also share a free journaling guide with prompts to help you reflect, grieve, and lean into God’s nearness. And there’s big news—our next season brings a fresh format with co-host Stephanie Pasniokis as we weave scripture into everyday wellness for women of faith, aligning spirit, mind, and body in truth, not trends.

If your heart is tired or your season feels stormy, this conversation offers language, presence, and a song to stand on. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review to help others find this space where small rooms can still sound like heaven.

Ever notice how the same day can feel radically different depending on what you’re looking for? We explore how attention, expectation, and belief quietly engineer your reality—drawing on a clear, down-to-earth explanation of energy, a plain-English take on the double-slit experiment, and a heartfelt bridge between neuroscience and faith. Think of it as a toolkit for changing what you observe into being, without jargon or hype.

I share how the brain’s priming system filters billions of inputs every second, why certain stories become your default lens, and how those lenses turn into identity. We walk through relatable examples—like seeing help as unreliable when your core belief says you must hold everything together—and map them to practical, repeatable tools that actually rewire your mind. Breath work, simple declarations, journaling, and five-minute visualizations form a daily practice that strengthens helpful neural networks while letting old patterns loosen their grip. Along the way, we connect ancient wisdom and scripture about renewing the mind with modern insights about attention shaping experience, making faith feel both grounded and actionable.

By the end, you’ll have a gentle, structured way to examine the beliefs steering your days, replace them with truer, kinder ones, and align mind, body, and spirit toward the future you want to live. If you’re a woman over 40 feeling stuck, weary, or out of sync with your own desires, this conversation offers clear steps to find flow again—and a community that wants to walk with you.

If this speaks to you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a quick review so more women can find their way back to joy.

What does it mean to truly support another human being? Not with empty phrases like "thoughts and prayers" or "reach out if you need anything," but with genuine, grounded presence that acknowledges our shared humanity.

This episode dives deep into the three fundamental needs hardwired into our nervous systems: love, safety, and belonging. These aren't optional luxuries—they're neurological imperatives for survival. When any one of these needs goes unmet, our brains panic as if our very lives are threatened. Many of us carry these deficits from childhood into adulthood, constantly searching for what we missed in relationships, communities, or even addictions.

The foundation for meeting these needs traditionally begins in family, but family takes many forms. Sometimes it's grandparents raising children, chosen family stepping up, or mentors filling crucial gaps. True support isn't about judgment or taking over—it's about asking "How can I help you today?" and then actually showing up. It might look like holding a baby so a mother can shower, respecting your adult children's parenting choices, or simply sitting in silence with someone who's struggling.

But, you know what? You can't effectively support others if you're dysregulated yourself. Your own healing journey must come first. By learning to regulate our emotions and nervous systems, we not only model wholeness for the next generation but create capacity for authentic connection in a world that desperately needs it.

Something shifted when I heard about Charlie Kirk's assassination. Though I wasn't his follower, his silencing struck a chord deep within me—a wake-up call for those of us who've played it safe with our faith. Have you felt it too? That nudge to stop hiding, to speak what you believe despite the cost?

Jesus warned us plainly: "If you live on God's terms, the world is going to hate you." As a Gen-Xer who spent decades in survival mode, building comfortable walls around my life, I've avoided boldness. But when the Holy Spirit stirs, procrastination becomes disobedience. The prophet Haggai's words cut straight to my heart: "How is it that it's the right time for you to live in your fine new homes while God's temple is in ruins?" Where have I prioritized my comfort over courage?

What Satan doesn't understand is that silencing one voice often awakens millions more. You don't need a perfect life or a massive platform to speak truth—just a yielded heart and the Holy Spirit's power. When we choose to meditate on what's true, noble, and beautiful as Philippians 4:8 instructs, our minds begin to filter the world differently. While forces try to hijack our focus with fear and division, God is stirring His people across generations. Your voice matters. Your testimony counts. Will you join me in rising up, speaking truth, and rebuilding what's been neglected? Download the journaling prompts in the show notes to process what God might be saying to you, and let's walk this bold path together.

Have you ever wondered why we celebrate celebrity engagements as though they were family events? Why devoted fans camp outside venues for days, or why political disagreements turn into vicious personal attacks? The answer lies in understanding three fundamental human needs that drive our behavior in ways we rarely recognize.

Your brain is hardwired to believe that without love, safety, and belonging, you will not survive. This isn't just psychological theory—it's neurobiological reality. When these needs go unmet, our survival brain kicks into high gear, creating a desperate search for fulfillment that can lead us to some surprising places. From Taylor Swift fandom to political tribalism, from gym memberships to harmful addictions, we're constantly seeking substitutes for what our souls truly crave.

In this revealing episode, we explore how celebrities like Taylor Swift have mastered the art of appearing to meet these needs, creating powerful emotional connections with fans who feel like part of her extended family. But there's danger in this misplaced devotion. Our nervous systems can't distinguish between true fulfillment and counterfeit comfort—they only recognize temporary relief. That's why fandom can feel like a matter of life and death, and why we'll fight to defend our chosen tribes even when logic suggests otherwise.

What if there's a more fulfilling way to meet these essential needs? What if you could stop scrambling for scraps of love, safety, and belonging and connect with their true source? This episode offers an invitation to get curious about where you're seeking substitutes in your own life and how you might find authentic fulfillment instead. Because you weren't designed to worship people who put their pants on exactly the same way you do—you were made for something much more profound.

Take a moment this week to reflect on what's truly worthy of your devotion. Your nervous system might insist these substitutes are essential for survival, but your soul knows better. Share this episode with someone who's struggling, and let's start a conversation about finding authentic love, safety, and belonging in a world full of counterfeits.

Have you ever felt inexplicably drained after spending time with certain people? Or found yourself replaying conversations over and over long after they've ended? The heaviness you're carrying might not even be yours.

Soul ties represent emotional or spiritual entanglements that can profoundly impact our wellbeing. These connections can form through love, shared trauma, or even survival instincts. While soul ties can be positive, energetic cords—the invisible tethers that drain us—are inherently negative. They emerge from unhealed emotions and unhealthy attachments, often attaching to specific areas of our bodies like the gut (affecting identity), heart (emotional dependency), or brain (obsessive thoughts).

Freedom doesn't require cutting people off. Instead, it comes from untangling what was never yours to carry. The release process begins with awareness—asking what's draining you that you've mistaken for love or loyalty. Then comes intention—consciously severing these connections through affirmations that reclaim what's yours. Finally, seal the release by replacing broken ties with peace. For parents and caregivers, this understanding is particularly powerful. The "apron strings" necessary when our children or loved ones need our care shouldn't become invisible leashes as they (or we) grow.

Ready to explore your own holy release? Join our Reignite your Flame community or book a personal session to identify and release the ties holding you back. Because you weren't designed to live entangled with everyone in your life—you were made for freedom, clarity, and love that flows from wholeness, not fear.

Some days are harder than others, and that soul-deep exhaustion you're feeling might be more than just physical tiredness. It might be your body's way of sending you an important message.

When I was going through my toughest times—experiencing unexplainable aches, inflammation, and brain fog—doctors kept running tests and prescribing medications. But no one asked about my life circumstances or emotional well-being. They were giving me pills when what I needed was a pause to get curious about what was really happening beneath my symptoms.

This episode explores the profound difference between judgment and curiosity in our healing journey. When we judge ourselves harshly for not "being over it" or for "doing that thing again," we activate our sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight), creating an internal environment where healing becomes physiologically impossible. Your body simply cannot heal when it feels unsafe, and self-judgment is one of the quickest ways to create that feeling of danger.

Curiosity, however, activates our parasympathetic nervous system—creating the safety our bodies need to heal. We explore practical questions you can use to cultivate curiosity about your mind ("What else could be true?"), your body ("What sensation am I experiencing right now?"), and your spirit (remembering that even God welcomes your difficult questions). These gentle inquiries open pathways to connection with yourself and others that judgment simply cannot access.

Remember, your healing journey isn't linear, but you don't have to walk it alone. Reach out and connect with our community of compassionate women who understand what you're going through. You are exactly where you're meant to be, and the world needs the healing, whole version of you.

Imagine moving into the holidays feeling grounded, peaceful, and full of joy — with the clarity to say yes to what truly matters and the strength to release the rest.

What are you broadcasting to the world without saying a word? Your energy, posture, and subconscious beliefs create a continuous broadcast signal that teaches others how to treat you and determines what you attract into your life.

Like a radio tower constantly sending out a signal whether anyone's listening or not, your body and nervous system transmit messages about how you expect to be treated. These brief, powerful statements—"I don't matter," "I'm not enough," "Ignore me"—operate beneath conscious awareness but profoundly shape your relationships and experiences. The most transformative realization? You might be unintentionally repelling the very things you desire most.

This broadcast signal typically originates from protective patterns developed during difficult life experiences. What once helped you survive may now be the very thing blocking your growth. When you broadcast from your wounds, you might crave peace while bracing for chaos, or desire love while expecting betrayal. But there's compassionate wisdom in recognizing these patterns—they served an important purpose in your survival story.

The good news? Your broadcast message can be recalibrated through a four-step process: becoming aware of your current signal, releasing emotional blockages, realigning with what you truly want to broadcast, and declaring new truths. This isn't about performance or perfection—it's about gently shifting your energy from wounds to wholeness, even before you fully feel that wholeness yourself.

Ready to shift your broadcast message? Start by simply checking in with yourself and acknowledging one belief you're ready to stop broadcasting today. Remember that it's never too late to recalibrate your signal and begin attracting the relationships, opportunities and experiences that align with your authentic self.

Have you ever wondered why traditional approaches to health and weight management so often fail, even when you're doing everything "right"? Stephanie Pasniokas, founder of SJP Health and Wellness, brings her fascinating background in neuroscience to explain what's really happening in your body when stress takes over.

From childhood food insecurity to corporate burnout that left her obese with pre-diabetes and chronic fatigue, Stephanie's personal journey illuminates the profound connection between stress and failing health. Despite her scientific expertise in biochemistry and anatomy, she found herself trapped in the same "eat less, move more" cycle that fails millions of women—until she discovered the missing link.

The revelation? Stress isn't just a feeling—it's a physiological state that transforms our cellular energy factories (mitochondria) from power generators into inflammation producers. Through her compelling framework, Stephanie breaks down six distinct types of stress that contribute to our "allostatic load" and explains how they manifest as everything from digestive issues to mood disturbances to stubborn weight gain.

What makes this conversation truly special is Stephanie's approach to healing. Rather than promoting strict diets or punishing exercise regimens, she champions curiosity and experimentation. Her data-driven methodology helps women discover exactly how their unique bodies respond to foods, activities, and lifestyle choices. The goal isn't perfection—it's personalized knowledge that empowers sustainable change.

For women navigating perimenopause or feeling exhausted despite their best efforts, this episode offers both validation and hope. As Stephanie shares, "I have more energy now at 50 than I did when I was 38," proving that age doesn't have to mean declining vitality. Whether you're struggling with weight, fatigue, or just feeling disconnected from your body's signals, this conversation offers a refreshing scientific perspective on reclaiming your wellbeing—without guilt, restriction, or one-size-fits-all solutions.

Have you ever found yourself giving 100% to so many areas of your life that the math simply doesn't add up? That breaking point where your body and mind finally say "enough" isn't a failure—it's a desperate call to reconnect with yourself.

In this deeply resonant conversation, neuroscientist-turned-wellness coach Stephanie Pasniokas takes the mic as guest host to explore what happens when we push ourselves beyond sustainable limits. Together with Melissa, they unpack the biological reality of burnout, revealing how constant stress affects us at the cellular level, creating inflammation instead of energy.

Melissa vulnerably shares her journey of complete disconnection—physically unable to feel pain from a broken toe, emotionally unable to access her feelings, and mentally stuck in loops of anxiety and perfectionism. Her story illuminates how the very traits that help us survive challenging seasons (like compartmentalizing emotions during her husband's military deployments) can become liabilities when they prevent us from experiencing a full, connected life.

Perhaps most surprising is the revelation that many women find stillness and rest actively anxiety-producing. After living in constant motion, our nervous systems actually become comfortable with stress, making calm feel strange and threatening. This explains why you might find yourself filling every quiet moment with activity, even when you're exhausted.

Through Melissa's "Peace Restoration Method," we discover that reconnecting with ourselves doesn't happen all at once. It's a dance between mental and physical healing, between identifying harmful beliefs and creating new patterns. The key insight? We must feel to heal—and when we shut down difficult emotions, we inadvertently block joy and excitement too.

If you're feeling depleted, disconnected, or simply unable to remember who you are beneath all your responsibilities, this conversation offers both validation and hope. Healing is possible, even if your path doesn't involve moving to a tropical island. Connect with us in the Reignite your Flame Facebook group to continue this journey together.

What if the secret to leadership success isn't finding perfect balance, but mastering the art of the pendulum swing? Jennifer Brown, former US Foreign Service Officer turned leadership coach, reveals why traditional work-life balance is a myth that keeps high-achieving leaders trapped in cycles of burnout and depletion.

Drawing from her powerful personal story of physical breakdown after years of putting achievement before well-being, Jennifer shares the exact moment she realized her leadership approach wasn't sustainable. "I had wonderful boss who said to me: 'you have to put your own oxygen mask on first,'" she recalls. "It was like this gut punch—I'm not putting my oxygen mask on first, and how can I pour into my family, my son, my team at work when I'm so depleted?"

This candid conversation explores the revolutionary concept of being the "CEO of your life" by intentionally directing your energy pendulum between priorities rather than attempting impossible balance. You'll discover practical techniques to interrupt negative thought patterns in seconds (without leaving your desk), how to identify your purpose through three revealing questions, and why defining yourself through achievement creates an unsustainable identity that eventually collapses.

Jennifer's faith-centered approach offers a refreshing perspective on leadership development, emphasizing grace for yourself and others while building mental fitness practices that fit into your existing routines. For leaders feeling lost, overwhelmed, or wondering "is this all there is?", this episode provides both comfort and actionable strategies to reclaim your energy and purpose.

The ripple effect of your leadership transformation affects everyone around you—are you ready to put your oxygen mask on first and discover what's possible when you lead from a place of wholeness rather than depletion?

Ever tried to chase peace while dodging curveballs? You're not alone, friend. As I wrap up hosting the Summer Serenity Blueprint, I'm sitting in my own version of life's hurricane season—navigating my husband's retirement after 50 years of service, his recovery from surgery, a 1,100-mile relocation, and our new multi-generational living arrangement... with one bathroom. Talk about a life experiment!

The Summer Serenity Blueprint offered three transformative days focused on realignment, release, and reconnection for women over 40 who feel soul-tired and burned out. We worked through the six pillars of the Peace Restoration Method, examining what drains our energy, releasing false guilt and invisible expectations, unplugging from hustle culture, and rediscovering forgotten dreams. The most powerful revelation? Peace isn't something we chase or a destination we arrive at—it's a practice we choose daily, especially when surrounded by cardboard boxes and complicated bathroom schedules.

What emerged through tears, laughter, and countless "I thought I was the only one" moments was the understanding that we're not broken—we're just tired. And there absolutely is a way back to peace that doesn't require perfect circumstances.

That's why I created the Peace in Your Pocket Kit—seven daily anchors for calm in chaos—simple reset tools you can use anywhere without elaborate rituals. Your reset can start right now with one deep breath. You don't need to figure everything out today, but please stop waiting for the chaos to end before you start reclaiming your joy. Peace is possible—even here, even now—and it's absolutely meant for you. Grab the Peace in Your Pocket Kit HERE

Ever caught yourself pouring every ounce of your being into helping someone who simply wasn't ready to change? That gut-wrenching feeling when you can clearly see their potential, know exactly what would help them, yet nothing shifts? That emotional exhaustion isn't just in your head—it's real, and it's draining your precious energy.

When we invest more energy into someone else's healing than they invest in themselves, we're setting up a painful dynamic that serves nobody. Drawing from personal experience and professional coaching expertise, this episode dives deep into why we feel compelled to "fix" others and what's really happening when we try. That urge to control others' healing journey isn't random—it's actually a survival technique hardwired into our brains, telling us that if our loved ones aren't okay, somehow we won't be either.

I share vulnerable stories from my own life, including my experience as a caretaker for my diabetic father and working through my struggle with anxiety when I tried taking on my husband's problems as my own. These raw examples illuminate the fundamental truth at the heart of all transformation: it must come from within. No amount of external pressure, no matter how well-intentioned, can force someone to change who isn't ready.

But this doesn't leave us powerless. We can learn to "hold space" rather than push solutions, offer encouragement instead of enforcement, and set healthy boundaries that protect our energy while still allowing us to care deeply. The shift from being a "fixer" to becoming a "supporter" not only preserves your wellbeing but often creates the exact environment where others feel safe enough to begin their own healing journey.

If you've been carrying the emotional weight of someone else's choices, this episode offers practical tools to reclaim your energy without losing your compassion. Ever had one of those weeks where everything feels impossible—even the things you normally love? That's exactly what happened as I tried to record this podcast episode. Four separate attempts, four brick walls. But instead of forcing it, I decided to get curious about what was really going on beneath the surface.

My body was sending signals through back pain and fatigue that something needed attention. As a Gen X woman, I was trained to power through discomfort—to ignore my needs until breaking point. People used to call me Wonder Woman because I just kept going no matter what. It served me well... until it didn't.

Our bodies hold onto everything we've experienced—physical, emotional, spiritual. When we consistently ignore what we need, our bodies eventually force us to stop through pain or illness. But there's another way. By pausing to ask "what do I actually need right now?" we can break the cycle of pushing until we break. This simple practice of presence allows us to tune into our mind, body, and spirit before we reach crisis point.

If you're running on empty and struggling to hear what your body is telling you, know that it's not too late to change the pattern. Grab my free guide "Five Ways to Practice Presence" from the show notes and start today. Remember, you don't need permission to take care of yourself—but if you do, consider it granted. The world needs what only you have to offer, but first, you need to take care of the vessel delivering those gifts.

5 Ways to Practice Presence🌿 Feeling Scattered, Distracted, or Overwhelmed? You’re constantly pulled in a million directions—your mind racing ahead to the next thing before you’ve even finished what’s in front of you. Sound familiar? That’s exactly why I created 5 Ways to Practice Presence, a FREE guide to help you: ✅ Feel more grounded and connected in your daily life. ✅ Reduce stress and overwhelm in just a few minutes a day. ✅ Experience more peace, joy, and clarity—right where you are. ✨ 🎁 Ready to stop rushing through life and start truly living it? Download 5 Ways to Practice Presence today—because peace and joy are waiting for you in this very moment.

Grief touches us all, yet we rarely understand its full complexity until we drown in it. Beyond the passing of loved ones, grief emerges when we lose jobs, places, relationships, and even versions of ourselves we've outgrown. When was the last time you allowed yourself to fully feel a loss instead of pushing forward?

In this deeply personal episode, I share my journey of avoiding grief for decades and the surprising breakthrough that came in my fifties. After rushing past denial, anger, bargaining, and depression to reach acceptance throughout my life, my brother's passing changed everything. For the first time, I allowed myself to experience the full weight of loss without shutting down. This newfound emotional connection transformed not just how I processed his death but how I experienced a later move from Guam—marking the first time I genuinely missed a place I'd left behind.

The truth about grief is stunningly simple yet profoundly difficult to embrace: we are all born sensitive beings meant to experience the full spectrum of human emotion. When we shut down grief, we also inadvertently close ourselves to joy. Through practical approaches like writing memory-focused letters, seeking professional support, and practicing presence within each stage of grief, we can honor our losses while still finding moments of light.

Whether you're personally navigating grief or supporting someone through it, remember that grief follows no timeline. Loneliness often hits hardest about six weeks after loss, when most support has faded. Your presence then—a simple "how can I help?" rather than "let me know if you need anything"—could be exactly what someone needs to feel less alone in their ocean of grief.

Ready to bring more mindfulness to your grief process? Download my free guide "Five Ways to Practice Presence" and start finding moments of peace even amid loss.

In this week's episode, we delve into the complexities of GLP-1 medications, a topic capturing immense attention in the realms of weight loss and health. As these drugs, including Ozempic and Wegovi, rise to fame as potential magic pills for shedding pounds, we aim to illuminate the shadows they cast. Join us as we explore the historical journey of GLP-1, from its initial isolation in the 1980s to its breakthrough realization utilizing the saliva of the Gila monster, making its way into injections.

But it isn’t just about the scientific background; we delve into the real concerns tied to these medications. What side effects should you be wary of? How do personal experiences challenge the narrative spun by the pharmaceutical world? Listen closely as we share powerful stories that underline the importance of addressing the roots of one’s health struggles—often emotional and lifestyle-oriented—rather than simply masking them with medication.

With an emphasis on individual empowerment, today's discussion also serves as a reminder of the value of researching and advocating for your health. While making informed choices is critical, we stress that true wellness transcends the pills prescribed or the number on the scale. Fostering a holistic approach is essential to long-term wellbeing and fulfillment.

So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and join us as we unravel the truths about GLP-1 therapy and advocate for embracing healthier, sustainable living methods that nourish both body and mind. Don’t forget to check out the free resource mentioned in the episode for those ready to take actionable steps toward harmony in their lives. Let's keep the conversation going!

Imagine a time when life wasn't constantly interrupted by notifications, and meaningful conversations weren't overshadowed by the glow of a screen. On this episode of the Lemon Balm Coaching Podcast, I share a heartfelt story from my pre-cell phone days, a time marked by a family health scare, that served as a powerful reminder of both the necessity of phones and the beauty of their absence. This story sets the stage to consider how our modern connectivity, while useful, often pulls us away from the genuine human connections that truly matter. We'll explore how rediscovering the essentials of love, safety, and belonging can help women over 40 who may feel lost or stuck, to create deeper connections and a more fulfilling life.

Let's challenge the norm of constant connectivity and rekindle the art of being truly present. Together, we'll uncover practical tips to set boundaries with technology, creating intentional phone-free moments that foster genuine relationships. By tuning into this episode, you'll learn how to reduce stress, reclaim joy, and deepen your connections with loved ones. Can the pursuit of balance be an illusion?

As your coach and cheerleader, I challenge the conventional wisdom that balance in life is a destination we can reach. Drawing from my years as a dancer, I share that balance is not about stillness but continuous micro-adjustments. Like a unicyclist or a dancer on pointe, life demands constant movement. Together, we'll explore why this ideal of balance might be a myth and what we should focus on instead. We'll also discuss the societal pressures that keep us in perpetual motion, particularly affecting women, and why embracing periods of rest and renewal is crucial.

Let’s rethink what it means to live a balanced life and accept that pausing and recharging is okay. With countless responsibilities pulling us in different directions, striving for a flawless version of life often leaves us exhausted. It’s time to release the notion of balance as an achievable goal and redefine it as an ongoing, evolving process that includes rest, laughter, and rediscovery of what brings us joy. Grab your favorite warm beverage and settle in as we create the next beautiful chapter of your life.

What if your family could be defined not just by blood, but by the connections you choose to nurture? On the Lemon Balm Coaching Podcast, we explore the idea of family as a dynamic and evolving tapestry, particularly for women over 40 who may feel life's transitions keenly. Sharing my personal journey with both biological and adopted children, I illuminate how brain chemicals like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin fundamentally shape our emotional ties. Let's consider how children select role models and the transformative power of self-discovery to redefine family bonds at any point in life.

When the nest empties and the echoes of our children's laughter fade from our homes, it can feel like part of our identity is slipping away. The challenge, then, is to cultivate intentional connections that anchor us. Drawing on wisdom from my Aunt Kathy, I highlight the vital role of friendships, particularly with other women, in building a resilient support network. Through engaging stories and actionable advice, I encourage you to foster relationships that extend beyond your parental roles, ensuring you have a strong community to navigate life's inevitable changes.

🌟 Ready to Deepen Your Connections? 🌟In a world filled with distractions, building meaningful relationships can feel harder than ever. But it doesn't have to be. I've created 10 Tips for Connection—a simple, practical guide to help you: ✨ Strengthen your relationships, 💬 Communicate with authenticity, 🤝 Build bonds that truly matter. Welcome to Aromatic Chat and welcome to 2022! In this special episode, your host, Melissa, takes the hot seat as Master Trauma Coach, Shanda Ceretti, takes the reigns.

Melissa is a Registered Aromatherapist and a Master Holistic Life Coach. In this episode, they are diving into the topic of Trauma and how it affects us later in life. They touch on the ideas of forgiveness, disease, vulnerability, survival, and healing.

As a Holistic Life Coach, Melissa has a beautiful way of opening up and sharing in a way that helps us understand how our brains work. "Our childhood survival techniques turn into habits that we carry into our adult lives." The old ways of coping no longer serve us and we have to rewire our brains to realize that the physiological responses of our childhood can be overcome.

One of the paradigms of Melissa's Coaching Practice is the no one escapes childhood unscathed. The meaning that we make of our experiences shape how we view the world and it is possible to overcome.

It is an honour and sincere pleasure to interview Robbi Zeck ND., author of the most beautiful book The Blossoming Heart and creator of the Aromatic Kinesiology Method - The Aromatic Heartwork that Inspires Transformation.

Robbi’s work on the mood enhancing benefits of essential oils for emotional health and how they affect the integration of emotional experiences is powerfully represented in her workshop series.

She has a unique teaching style that explores how to use essential oils to facilitate change, release unresolved stress, change patterns of belief that are no longer useful and to reframe emotional issues.

Essential oils are such strengthening companions for any healing journey and quietly influence the heart and emotional brain through the powerful effects of aromatic anchoring.

Aromatic Kinesiology is an immersive aromatic experience crafted with beauty and love, where you are fully supported to renew your relationship with yourself and your beautiful blossoming heart.

Robbi is a true trailblazer in the wellness world, in particular in the field of aromatherapy.

Based in Ballarat Australia, with a career spanning more than 40 years as a Kinesiologist, Counsellor, Naturopath and NLP Practitioner, Robbi is a women’s retreat facilitator, has led more than 30 exquisite retreats in Bali and is also co-founder of Aroma Tours which she established with her husband Jim Llewellyn in 1995.

If you are wanting a little inspiration and heart settling you can watch the short film she made a few years ago about Love, Grace and Gratitude and there is a free download so you can learn the movements if you so desire…

Robbi’s Favourite Quote:

“People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”

Join me for today's episode of Aromatic Chat, where I get to interview Dr. Kelly Ablard.
Dr. Ablard is one of the leading forces behind sustainability in the Essential Oil world - literally on a global level! She is the founder of the Airmid Institute, a non profit organization that is dedicated to the global education, research and sustainable management of medicinal and aromatic plants, so that we can have these beautiful plants for generations to come.

Find out how going back to school as an adult and learning about endangered animals led to her passion and mission to raise awareness of not just the animals, but the plants as well, and how the whole ecosystem can be affected by the mismanagement of these precious resources. We dive into sustainability, and the considerations that you have to take across multiple levels - and that's barely scratching the surface of Dr. Ablard's work! She also shares with us some VERY valuable tools and insights to help make your essential oil sourcing process more sustainable, without being more complicated!
Listen to the end for her encouragement - not judgement! - about the responsibility that we each have to help the world become a better place.

Debrah has doctorates in naturopathy, homeopathy, and quantum medicine, as well as a PhD in quantum medicine! She uses her education to merge eastern and western medicine and guide people on their healing journeys through her integrative medicine clinic.
Additionally, she has recently finished creating a 16-part aromatherapy course, and teaches the course in the afternoons, once she's done seeing patients in the morning.

Debrah's initial background is in Business Management and Marketing, but she knew that wasn't the sphere she wanted to stay in. She added in each new modality, one at a time, but is now living out her God-given purpose by helping people heal on a cellular level.

Her personal journey is truly inspirational, and she has a special offer just for my listeners, so stay tuned all the way to the end to hear her story, her words of wisdom, and that offer that's just for you!

In this episode of Aromatic Chat, I have the pleasure of speaking with Jona Valdez, Icelandic native and fellow homeschool mom!
Jona went to college for cosmetology and body work, then moved around for a while, before starting to learn more about natural medicines in San Diego. She discovered the power of essential oils battling mosquito bites in New York, and then found the world of MLMs when she moved to Utah. Jona began researching EOs online, and decided that she could not in good conscience expose her family to the potential dangers of misuse - so she started trying to find resources, eventually finding AromaHead, and completing the certification program in about two years (between homeschooling and raising babies!).

Tune in to find our what caused her to start the homeschooling journey, the most common problems her clients come to her for, her favorite client stories, the stumbling blocks that she faces, and the latest project that has her lit up! Listen to the very end to hear the wisdom that she has to share with our world today.

Today, I have the incredible honor of interviewing Marge Clark. Marge is an aromatherapy pioneer, or in her words, "a vintage aromatherapist". She always wanted to be a healer, but thought that it would be through nursing or some similar field, never imagining that she would become an incredibly influential supplier of high quality essential oils!
She states that this isn't what she envisioned when she dreamed of being a healer, but she has been able to help thousands of aromatherapists AND their clients on their healing journeys, and that is so much greater than what she dreamed of as a child.

Each second of this episode is packed with the goodness, love, and wisdom that Marge has received through the years, so tune in to hear her story of how her worst fear became what is now known as Nature's Gift Aromatherapy - including how a potpourri book spurred her love of essential oils and how that accidentally lead to where they are now!

She can't choose just 3 essential oils, anymore than you would ask her to choose a favorite child, but her TOP TWO ESSENTIAL OIL recommendations are:

  • Rose
  • Corsican Helichrysum

In today's episode, I have the pleasure of chatting with Yasmine ElGhamrawy.
We get to connect over odd points of commonality, and even explore the silver linings of the COVID crisis.

Yasmine grew up in Egypt, where oils and aromatics are normal for daily use, and went on to study and pursue a 20 year career in visual effects for films. Though wonderfully creative and artistic, this is a very stressful industry, and Yasmine found herself returning to aromatics to deal with her personal stress. When she decided to change careers, she was encouraged by those around her, as well as her own passion, to pursue the path to becoming an Aromatherapist. She studied at the Aromahead Institute, developing a love for research and the blend of energetics and chemistry in essential oils.

TRIGGER WARNING: Chris and I discuss combat-related PTSD due to experiences in Somalia.

In this episode, I get to speak with Chris Mack of Aromatic Harmony. I treasure this, because Chris is a man of few words - but he IS a good story teller!

He credits his grandfather with giving him a key piece of advice - "Never pass an opportunity to shut the heck up". Taking this advice to heart has helped him to enjoy listening to people, creating a multitude of friends across the spectrum of humanity, and gaining a greater understanding of the circumstances that he finds himself in.

In this episode of Aromatic Chat, I get to chat with an absolutely amazing human - Coach Kc Rossi.
Kc is a registered aromatherapist, produces her own podcast, Women Developing Brilliance, and is the coach for aromatherapists and holistic providers.
Kc found her interested in the power of plants and pursued her aromatherapy certification in 1994 via a correspondence course. After receiving her certification, she ran a boutique aromatherapy line, in parallel to running a chocolate confections business with her best friend. As she continued her education, she realized that many amazing healers have their education, but no idea how to actually thrive in the business space. With two decades of successful business experience behind her, Kc niched down and filled the gap that she saw by becoming a business mentor for holistic healers.
We get to dive into how she helps her clients solve problems, the deeper levels of what coaching really is, some of Kc's own struggles, how to find your energy, and even a silver lining of the COVID tragedy. Be sure to listen all the way to the end to hear Kc's take-away inspiration!

In this very special episode, special guest host Adipsia gets to chat with Melissa Holman of Aromatic Remedies (that's me!).
Melissa first encountered aromatherapy in the early 90s when her mother took a correspondence course to become a Certified Aromatherapist. At that time, EOs were still very fringe, Melissa was in the middle of raising small kids, and didn't have time to learn about this thing that her mom was trying to get her into. More than 20 years later, through working at a Chiropractic office, learning there that everything in the body is connected, and how self-care is crucial to the prevention of dis-ease, she also discovered that aromatherapy fits beautifully into the way the body works.
After some debate about the type of education to pursue, she attended the American College of Healthcare Sciences, gaining her certificate in aromatherapy, and going on to become a Registered Aromatherapist.

Hear us discuss stress and the body, the passion that keeps me going, and my personal success list! As a bonus, keep listening after the credits to find out a little more about Adipsia, who he is, and how he found his way onto this podcast!

In this episode of Aromatic Chat, I have the wonderful opportunity to chat with Marie Olson. I met Marie shortly after I moved to Guam; she was the first Registered Aromatherapist on the Island! She was stationed at a military base with her husband, and has since been transferred back to the states, and we got to have a nice chat about the differences between Island Life and Life in the States when we were recording this Episode.

Marie is a Funtional Nutrional Therapy practitioner, and was working on getting board certified in Holistic Nutrition before moving to Guam. Challenges of Island Life put that goal on the back burner, and since moving, it's stayed there due to life being life. She was introduced to EOs through a friend who invited her to a workshop, but thought that some of the information presented was a little questionable - so she started learning on her own. She found the AromaHead Institute and started taking classes, eventually becoming certified as an Aromatherapist.
Tune in to today's episode to find out what Marie's current focus is, and why she loves it!

In this episode of Aromatic Chat, I have the pleasure of speaking with Sharon Mayberry of Rock Rose Aromatherapy. Sharon is a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist who specializes in addressing anxiety and insomnia, creating individualized blends for clients all over the world.

Sharon became an aromatherapist after her youngest graduated high school. She was introduced to EOs by her yoga/barre instructor, but some of the information that the company provided didn't quite resonate, and so Sharon set out on her own educational journey to learn more about essential oils, what they are, and what they do. Eventually, she exhausted the educational options available for hobbyists and decided to take the certification course to be able to learn more.

A life-long learner, Sharon is currently studying herbalism, as well as creating custom blends containing cannabis. Her primary motivation as an aromatherapist is to help people, and client feedback helps her know that she's on the right track and keeps her going!

Sharon's 3 favorite essential oils are (currently, ask again in 3 hours!)

In today's episode of Aromatic Chat, I get to have a conversation with Cynthia Tamlyn of Oilistic Aromatherapy. Born in Missouri, raised in Texas, and now living in Washington state, Cynthia specializes in working with children who have experienced trauma, and also in training allopathic providers in essential oil safety.

Cynthia has always loved naturopathy, but did not get into aromatherapy until after adopting and bringing home a son from China. A survivor of childhood trauma herself, Cynthia recognized signs of undiagnosed pediatric PTSD in her son. She embarked on the journey of helping her son heal from the trauma, attempting several different types of treatment. Eventually, under the guidance of a naturopath, they started using aromatherapy with out realizing it, and finally found the kind of effect that they were looking for. Seeing these results, Cynthia decided to try using EOs to assist in her own trauma recovery, but, due to a lack of solid education, ended up inadvertently causing a seizure by using EOs that are unsafe for epileptics. She realized that there had to be reliable education surrounding essential oils, and embarked on her own journey to find it.

Cynthia's personal story has lead to a deep passion for assisting trauma recovery, as well as providing EO safety training. In her own words, "A rattlesnake bite is natural, but no one wants to get bit!" - pointing out that just because it's natural does NOT mean it's safe to use without proper education.

Tune in to this episode to hear us discuss the safety and legality of EOs, psychedelic psychotherapy, the interactions of EOs in everyday life, and the importance of learning self-advocacy!

Kayla got started with aromatherapy in 1998 when her son got ringworm and no medication would touch it. In desperation, she turned to the local health food store, and with the help of the associate, decided to try essential oils. It worked within 3 days, and Kayla decided that she needed to do some more research so that she could have education behind her as she delved into this new-to-her field.

On today's episode, I'm chatting with Carol Scheidel who is a retired nurse and the owner of RJ Buckle Associates, which is education and consulting program that focuses on instructing nurses how to use Aromatherapy in Clinical settings.

Carol began her Aromatic journey in 2002 when she attended a conference focused on integrating complementary modalities into their healthcare system. Having a supportive chief nurse officer who embraced Aromatherapy made it possible for Carol, and the other nurses who attended, to write the policies for their program and implement it into their hospital system in 2004.

Within the medical system, they created a protocol that could be used within the medical record. The doctors and nurses were able to place orders for Aromatherapy to be used for any patient or family member who were interested in using complementary modalities. Each nurse in the Aromatherapy program also had other hospital duties and participated out of a love for complementary modalities. They have been able to create personal nasal inhalers for the specific purposes in the different departments of the hospital.

In 2016 Carol retired from nursing and met up with Jane Buckle in London. Jane told Carol that she wanted to sell the business to Carol and to carry on with the mission of educating healthcare workers in how to use this amazing modality as well as the M-Technique.

Tune in to hear more.

In today's Aromatic Chat, I have the pleasure of connecting with Suzanne Bolton, a Clinical Aromatherapist based out of Colorado. Suzanne has been practicing aromatherapy in a clinical setting since the late 90s, and while she's technically retired from the clinical setting, she still teaches classes and volunteers her time when she can.
Suzanne credits her passion for aromatherapy as stemming from a love of the land, herbs, and the plants around her. She was working at Mercy Regional Hospital at the time that they received a grant from the American Cancer Society that provided for many resources for their hospital, including a healing garden and the opportunity to study aromatherapy - the rest has been a fascinating journey!
Life has taken Suzanne many different places, including to Columbia with the Peace Core where she met her husband, and Florida where she and her husband founded a yoga studio centering on love and self-care. From there, they moved to the mountains of Colorado, where she has been able to enjoy making a difference in a smaller place. She began working in the ICU at the local hospital, and helped to create the TLC Integrative Care team.
Tune in to this episode to find out how the TLC Integrative Care team improves the lives and experiences of the patients and families that they work with, what is lighting Suzanne up in life, and to hear her advice to everyone who desires to age well!

Her favorite 3 essential oils are:

  • pinion pine
  • rosemary
  • frankincense

TRIGGER WARNING: If you or a loved one has ever been affected by trafficking, please be aware that this is a topic discussed in this episode.
On today's episode of Aromatic Chat, I have the pleasure of speaking with Mandy Fitzgerald of Wild at Heart Botanicals. Mandy is a Registered Aromatherapist, on the research board of the Alliance of International Aromatherapists, and is passionate about educating people on the proper use of essential oils - especially in relation to stress and trauma management. She is the host of the https://wildatheartbotanicals.com new podcast Something I Can Do: Overcoming Trauma and PTSD with Aromatherapy.

Mandy started discovering aromatherapy in the 90s, collecting "little bottles" from health food stores. In 1999, she found V.A. Worwood's The Complete Book of Essential Oils and was awakened to the real world of aromatics. She was able to use her husband's GI bill to go to school and learned about herbalism and aromatherapy, graduating from ACHS in 2015.
Mandy and I discuss how our past can shape our present, and Mandy shares with us how her experiences have shaped her niche in aromatherapy - primarily dealing with and healing trauma and stress.

As a Registered Aromatherapist, Mandy creates custom blends through 1:1 consultations, and also consults with the Essential Oil supply company Savhera. She states that the hardest part of business right now is dealing with her own insecurities, and that there's a lot of education that needs to happen for people to really be able to understand the world of EOs. She's currently very excited about her opportunities with Savhera, as well as an organization called Groundswell, a non-profit that helps teach women how to overcome trauma using surfing and aromatherapy.

In today's Aromatic Chat, I get the amazing opportunity to chat with Lola King of Be Kind Botanicals. As the owner of BKB, Lola works directly with growers and distillers to bring you high quality, sustainable, artisan essential oils.

Lola found her way into aromatherapy, specifically as an oil provider, after having her second child and deciding to jump into building and running her own business. Originally she looked at becoming an Esthetician, but could find no information on how to safely formulate products, so she started trying to find formal education for formulation. After about six weeks of looking, she decided to start learning about essential oils and finished her course work in about six months. She began her business with creating body scrubs and blends, and then rebranded to fit her passions better.

Her father was a huge inspiration in both the business that she chose and the way she chooses to run it, teaching her to take care of the environment and be inclusive. The name of her company, Be Kind Botanicals, honors her father by remembering that kindness is how she was raised. "We wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for a love of helping people", Lola stated about the compassion that is exemplified by most holistic practitioners.

Tune in to hear us chat some more about the importance of sustainability, the difference between artisan and commercially produced essential oils, the Leave No Trace mentality and leaving your environment better than you found it, and to find out what the name of Lola's still is!

Lola's Top 3 Essential Oils:

  • Since she works with oils all the time, she doesn't really have a favorite!
  • She tends to gravitate towards what she's emotionally responsive to.
  • Right now, she's enjoying the smell of the earth.

In today's episode of Aromatic Chat, I have the pleasure of speaking with Michael Ford of Avalon Holistic Wellness, based in Covington, Louisiana. Michael is a massage therapist, cosmetologist, aromatherapist, and herbalist. He holds certifications in many, many modalities, and primarily helps people deal with stress management and stress-related issues.

Self-described as a "weird child", Michael says that his interest in herbalism and aromatherapy started when he was very young - maybe five years old - watching his mother garden. His interest increased as a curious teen when he started learning about plants as medicine and the science behind it all. He went on to study at the American College of Healthcare Sciences and eventually established his own practice.

Michael's 3 favorite essential oils or herbs are

  • coipaba
  • sweet orange
  • ashwaganda

Included in this episode are some special moments where we get to geek out over shared interests that have nothing to do with aromatherapy, the story behind his business name, and his top tips for self-care.

In today's Aromatic Chat, I'm speaking with Crystal Brothers. I met Crystal through our professional organization, the Alliance of International Aromatherapists. Crystal is an aromatherapist, herbalist, and homeschooling mom, currently focusing on serving families and babies, providing care and support through creating bespoke blends for individuals using herbs, essential oils, and especially hydrosols.

Crystal's love of aromatherapy and herbalism is inspired berry hunting, gardening, and farming with her mother. Then, after having her third child and a lingering ear infection that antibiotics and steroids weren't touching, a visit to the chiropractor allowed the ear to drain and re-sparked her interest in herbs and aromatics. She then studied with Jesse Hawkins, taking her Family Herbalism and Professional Aromatherapy courses, and went on to study at the Franklin Institute, earning her Diploma of Dietary Supplements.
Crystal shares how this training has proved invaluable to their family, as one of her daughters was diagnosed with a genetic adrenal disorder when she was 7 years old. "The doctors were surprised that she wasn't sicker than she was." Crystal credits this to the fact that aromatics and herbs have been used intentionally, especially when the children were little.
Crystal has background training as a mathematician and as an engineer, which she says led to an even deeper curiosity about oils and hydrosols, eventually leading to a 40 liter still in her back yard for distilling hydrosols from her aromatic garden and foraging trips.

Her three favorite essential oils are:

  • Bergamot
  • Alligator Juniper
  • Dill

Her three favorite hydrosols are:

  • Calendula
  • Goldenrod
  • ANY wood distillation

Crystal is raising her family and caring for her community in northern Pennsylvania, and is excited about the recent explosion in home gardens.

In today’s Aromatic Chat I’m speaking with Jodi Baglien of The Quella Store. Jodi has been an Aromatherapist since the 1990s and offers a wealth of experience and knowledge in the Aromatic field.

Jodi’s three favorite essential oils:

  • Frankincense
  • Bergamot
  • Cinnamon
  • Pink Grapefruit (she snuck in a fourth)

Jodi’s Aromatic journey started at a Young Living class. She quickly realized that sales wasn’t her route, so she sought to learn more as she “wasn't gonna play doctor with people's health.” She realized she loved aromatherapy because “it was the one healing tool that addressed the physical, the mental, emotional, and energy.”

She studied Aromatherapy at the American College of Health Sciences. After graduating, she saw a local college, offering a class on a very famous technique and called the school and asked if they had thought about the liability? That started a 16 year career and journey of teaching through the State College systems.

Now she spends time in her studio in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She’s been there for 20 years and in her current studio for about eight. She stopped teaching classes and has handed all that over to a dear friend, Jen shepherd.

In the last few years the focus is all on bringing Aromatherapy into healthcare. What we do is we work with a lot of hospitals that are interested in the BIOS patch. So we supply across the nation to hospitals across the United States and provide a one hour online education for the staff. These are places that don't have an aromatherapist on staff, so they need a program designed by one. I also work with nursing homes and they do a much longer broader program.

She’s currently not a practicing aromatherapist. “I'm a business. My life is filling out vendor paperwork and, and a lot of technology. Details and packing and shipping. My daughter, Maya, runs the front office and handles a lot of things and so that's kind of where it all ended up.

In today’s Aromatic Chat I’m speaking with Debra Reis. Debra is a nurse and educator as well as a researcher and Aromatherapist.

Debra realized that aromatherapy education is very important. “I'm seeing that even in a high end hospital setting and other clinical settings that there are people just bringing in, even people like nurses, just bringing in oils and using them because they feel it's okay to do that. They just really don't know it's not... It's just a lack of knowing.”

During the COVID pandemic, Debra’s focus was on caring for staff, trying to keep everybody at a balance. Debra has always had a passion for helping others discover really quick tools that we can use very quickly and very effectively move from a state of chaos to a state of relaxation. Her background is as a critical care nurse but realized that it was stressful and that there had to be more than just putting people back together. Something was missing. She got her certification and then continued pursuing education by branching out into different modalities.

She has created a signature program, called STEP- Supportive Therapy Engagement Program. It addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual elements as they relate to relaxation. She also has the “Calm Your Chaos” program that anyone can get which includes quick tips on relaxation techniques.

Debra’s Three Favorite essential oils are:

  • Lemon
  • cedar wood

In today’s Aromatic Chat I’m speaking with Lugina Quiros. Lugina is an Aromatherapist in Central America. After 20 years of being an Aromatherapy enthusiast she dove into learning about essential oils and has something pretty amazing to share with us today; something she calls Neuro Aromatic Programming.

Lugina first bumped into essential oils because she had some time to spare. She was startled by the price versus size and started reading books as there was no internet at that time. She had a career in business management but realized this was something that filled my spirit. A midlife crisis left her with a lot of questions and Aromatherapy answered them.

She found the only certification school in Latin America. It was really meant to be.

She works with women who struggle with stress, anxiety, and other emotional issues.

Lugina’s top three favorite essential oils are:

In today’s Aromatic Chat I’m speaking with Shannon Bachorick. Shannon is an Aromatherapist in Saskatchewan, Canada, and is a member of many different Professional Aromatherapy Organizations.

Shannon was born in Saskatchewan, and was an interpreter before stepping into the Aromatic field. She has three different hats depending on which Association; she is considered a Registered Aromatherapist, and essential oil therapist, and a Certified Aromatherapist. She was invited to take over somebody's established downline with an MLM, but realized that as much as some oils have the power to heal they have the power to harm as well, so, decided to pursue education. She went to Quitessence aromatics to learn about essential oils.

Most people seek out Shannon for issues with anxiety, stress, and relaxation.

Her three favorite essential oils are:

  • Bergamot
  • Lavender
  • Palo Santo

She has an Aromatherapy Subscription Service- Essential Airmail, and is currently working to develop a CE course that will benefit massage therapists and others who use essential oils in their practices.
