Transform Your Prayer Life: 6 Steps to Intimacy with God

If you've ever felt like your prayers aren't making it past the ceiling—or you don't have the right words to talk to God—this episode is for you.

But prayer isn't supposed to be a barrier between you and God. It's supposed to be a language of love—and just like any language, it takes time, repetition, and practice.

In this episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on my own prayer journey and sharing the six steps that transformed prayer from a religious routine into a real, intimate relationship with God.

YOU'LL LEARN:

  • Why the enemy wants to keep you intimidated by prayer
  • The moment I realized prayer isn't about having the right words
  • How to answer when God wakes you up at midnight with no clear direction
  • What happened when I obeyed God's prompting with a homeless man in DC
  • The difference between praying for show and praying from the heart
  • How to recognize divine appointments in the chaos of everyday life

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH:

  • Six practical steps to build authentic intimacy with God through prayer
  • Freedom from comparing your prayer life to others
  • Confidence that God hears you—whether you pray two sentences or twenty minutes
  • Understanding that prayer happens in the interruptions, not just the quiet times
  • Your next kingdom assignment: being vigilant for God's prompts throughout the day

TIMESTAMPS:

[00:37] - The enemy's tactic to silence your prayer life

[03:01] - How I became a "prayer warrior" (it didn't happen overnight)

[05:23] - When God wakes you up at 1 AM and you don't know what to pray

[07:46] - Step 1: Stop comparing your prayer life to others

[43:13] - The three trash cans story: when obedience inconveniences your schedule

[45:31] - Prayer in the chaos: God speaks when dinner is burning

[47:51] - A prayer declaration over your life

SCRIPTURES MENTIONED:

  • Psalm 145:18 - The Lord is close to all who call upon him in truth
  • Matthew 6:33 - Seek the kingdom of God first, and all these things will be added
  • Matthew 25:40 - Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me
  • Acts 4:13 - Being ordinarily bold so people know we were with Jesus

The Heart Test: Why the Israelites Never Made It (And What That Means for Us)

The Israelites saw miracles. They experienced deliverance. But an entire generation never entered the Promised Land—not because of their sin, but because of their unbelief.

In this episode, I'm breaking down the sobering warning in Hebrews 3–4 and what it means for us today. If you've been delivered from your old life but feel stuck in the wilderness, this episode will challenge and encourage you to examine your heart, remember God's faithfulness, and hold fast to belief.

You'll learn:

  • The connection between Eve's doubt in the Garden and Israel's doubt in the wilderness
  • What it means to "take up your cross daily" and guard your heart

  • The difference between starting the faith and finishing it
  • Practical ways to soften your heart and resist the pattern of unbelief

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH:

  • A deeper understanding of Hebrews 3–4 and God's warning about unbelief
  • Clarity on where you are in your spiritual journey (Egypt, wilderness, or promise)
  • Practical tools to guard your heart and build belief in the waiting

How I Actually Learned to Read My Bible (Not Just Memorize It)

If you've ever felt like you should know your Bible better—but didn’t know where to start—this episode is for you.

I grew up in church, went to a Christian school, and could quote Scripture… but I didn’t really understand it. It wasn’t until I got tired of surface-level devotionals and secondhand revelation that I began to truly study God’s Word for myself.

In this video, I’m sharing my personal journey from memorizing verses to studying the Bible deeply—without seminary training, theology degrees, or special credentials. Just hunger, honesty, and the Holy Spirit.

You'll learn:

  • The moment that shifted how I approached the Bible
  • What "hermeneutics" is and why it's essential
  • How I study Scripture now (with practical steps)
  • Why memorization without understanding can be dangerous
  • The book that changed how I engage with God’s Word

WHAT YOU’LL WALK AWAY WITH:

  • A simple process for studying the Bible on your own
  • Encouragement if you’ve ever felt behind or spiritually stuck
  • A deeper hunger to know the God behind the verses

MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:

  • How to Study Your Bible by Kay Arthur
  • Jackie Hill Perry’s Bible Study on the Book of Jude
  • Relevant Scriptures:
    • Hebrews 11:1
    • Romans 8:28 (in context!)
    • Acts 16–17 (Paul’s missionary journey)
    • Ephesians 6 (Armor of God)
    • Jeremiah 29 (God’s instruction during exile)

Plot twist: You're not in that corporate contract to get the bag. You're there on a rescue mission. Here's how I figured out my real assignment in every business deal. After 13 years as an entrepreneur, I've learned that every business decision carries spiritual weight. In this episode, I'm sharing my battle-tested process for discerning God's will in business opportunities - from the prayer board that tracks every client to walking away from signed contracts when values don't align. If you've ever wondered whether that opportunity is God opening a door or just a distraction from your true calling, this episode is for you.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • My literal "prayer board" system for tracking business decisions
  • Why saying yes to every opportunity knocking isn't faith - it's foolishness
  • How to spot when a "blessing" is actually an expensive distraction
  • The real reason I've walked away from signed contracts (and why you should too)
  • My 7-7-7 Sabbath system that revolutionized my business boundaries
  • How to identify your spiritual assignment in every business deal
  • The retrospective process that prevents repeating costly mistakes
  • Why legacy thinking trumps quick money every time

I caught myself giving God deadlines in prayer. "Can you heal them in 24 hours?" Like I'm God's project manager or something. The audacity was real. In this episode, I'm getting uncomfortably honest about the subtle ways we try to control God, other people, and situations - all while thinking we're being "spiritual." From passive-aggressive Bible accountability questions to micromanaging other people's spiritual growth, it's time to call out the controlling behaviors that are actually pushing people away from faith.

WHAT YOU'll LEARN

  • Why asking "Did you pray today?" might be more controlling than caring
  • The shocking difference between spiritual discipline and spiritual guilt
  • How to spot when you're trying to play God in other people's lives
  • Why people are walking away from church (and it's not what you think)
  • The truth about fasting for breakthrough vs. fasting for show
  • How to surrender control without becoming passive
  • 3 ways to check your motives before "helping" someone spiritually

When we try to control God's timeline and other people's spiritual journey, we're actually playing God without His permission. True faith means trusting His process, His timing, and His methods - even when they don't match our expectations or schedules.

What's ONE way you've tried to control God's timeline or someone else's spiritual growth? Be honest in the comments - no judgment, just growth! 👇

Faith-based business tips:https://heybritt.co/anewthing

God, I need you to send someone right now..." Prince prayed desperately in his car, feeling lost during his college years. Hours later, an elderly woman he'd never met looked him in the eyes and asked, "Why aren't you helping your father in his church?" No one had told her he was a pastor's kid. In that divine moment, Daniel Prince Tate's entire life trajectory changed—a powerful reminder that God hears our cries, even in our wandering.

In this soul-stirring conversation, Brittany welcomes Daniel Prince Tate, an HR professional whose faith journey beautifully illuminates how our corporate positioning often serves a divine purpose far beyond career advancement. Together, they explore the sacred intersection where faith meets workplace, revealing how authentic belief transforms ordinary work into extraordinary ministry.

This divinely appointed conversation offers profound wisdom for believers navigating professional spaces. Prince shares practical strategies for shining your light with wisdom—building relationships before ministry and exercising discernment in spiritual conversations. His journey as a "Daniel in Babylon" demonstrates how God strategically positions His people to advocate, restore balance, and bring Kingdom principles into seemingly secular environments.

Perhaps most transformative is Prince's heartfelt reminder that "your gifting is not for you—it's for other people," challenging you to consider who you're divinely positioned to impact right where you are today. As the episode closes in powerful prayer, you're invited into a sacred moment that transcends the podcast format—a divine appointment waiting to minister to exactly where you stand in your own faith journey.

Joshua 1:7-9 has been a set of verses that the Lord has had me circling on for some time now... but I'm starting to see such richness in just these few sentences and I hope you do to. It is my honor to share this and pray for you.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

I struggled with how I should summarize this episode; the short route is to simply ask that you listen with an open mind and heart.

The longer approach is to say that God really showed himself to be very clear for me in the basis of this particular show.

I grew up in church. And while some of my earliest memories include Sunday mornings in the pews, my more recent times there look vastly different than those of my childhood. In this episode, I reflect on so much of what has shaped the believer and follower I am today.

I never want to shy away from having hard conversations, and in this episode I go pretty deep into calling out what God considers a sin... and these kinds of conversations should never be approached without a great deal of prayer.

*Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.

Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

There is plenty of good available to us on any given day, but is any of it what God wants specifically for us? This is a very important question to get in the habit of asking.

In this episode, I will walk through some of what it means to seek God for the very things that he wants for us, even when they might not make sense.

Galatians 6:1-9
Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ. 3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.

4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. 5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

6 Those who are taught the word of God should provide for their teachers, sharing all good things with them.

7 Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Sometimes, it's important to look back at where you've been before you can take a good look at where you're going.

In this episode, I'm pleased to bring back my friend, Steven Murphy, who turns the tables by interviewing me! We go back to the beginning of this podcast and discuss how I have arrived where I am today. It is a really good opportunity for me to define the "why" behind how I believe God is leading me to continue this show.

Prayer is such a privilege! God has made himself available to us when we choose to call on his name. This will be the first of what will be a series of shorter episodes that I will be releasing from time to time.

In this episode, I get to dive into something that I feel like God has been leading me to for some time now. I will walk you through Psalm 131by praying what the Word says. I believe that as we seek God in prayer, he will reveal more of himself to us and act on our behalf.

“Read the Bible” sounds like such a cliché and for what? To feel spiritual? To look spiritual?

It means so much more to know the Bible, to get even the smallest amount of understanding of what is in it. In this episode, I get to take a look into the Word and share a portion of what God is showing me by being in it consistently.

In this episode, we will look at the act of truly listening to the voice of God.

I recently experienced a time when I knew that God was telling me to go to Mexico; that was it... no more instruction beyond that, just go. While I pondered and questioned it from so many angles, I would learn that, if nothing else, it was time to just listen to what he was saying and go.

Instances like this serve as a reminder that there is no source outside of God that will give you a clear picture of what the plan for your life looks like.

Most of us have deserted our deserts; we’ve tried to avoid them at all costs. But what if I were to tell you that by deserting the land that appeared to be barren, you’d be leaving behind some of the greatest treasures of your life. You’d be sacrificing and leaving behind things for your future generation. We instantly get tripped up on the experience of the Israelites because they died in the desert after wandering for 40 years, but if we recount, their travel was supposed to be days versus decades. The interesting thing about Produce, or should I say Fruit is that it comes in two forms. You can either choose to purchase a conventional or organic apple. If our day-to-day Fruit comes in two types and forms, does our Spiritual Fruit have the same ramifications?

Seeds from Today's Episode

Scriptures from today’s episode:

· John 15:8 (NLT) “When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my father.”

· John 15:4 (NLT) “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. “

· Numbers 13:23 (NLT) “When they came to the valley of Eschol, they cut down a branch with a single cluster of grapes so large that it took two of them to carry it on a pole between them…”

It's said that the mind is a powerful and beautiful thing to waste. So why don't we put the same effort and care into our minds as we do in our physical bodies? Most of the very things we feel stuck in, defeated, and challenge comes based on our minds' conditions. Join me today for a special guest as I sit down with a friend and classmate, Dr. Tierra T. Ellis, as she walks us through how to find radical healing and empowerment in decreasing the stigma of mental health.

What is the condition of your garden? Tune today as we explore this question with my special guest Pablo Acosta from the Benchin in the Kitchen podcast and the meaning of stewardship. A word I believe that we should all stop and reflect on from season to season. Are our gardens overgrown with weeds, bushes, and snakes in the grass? Or is it well trimmed? Have you made time to tend to it, learn from it, and steward at it well recently? Tricity Pantry

As we seek God’s face and faith within Him, we’re sometimes called into uncharted waters, into levels of maturity that will cause us grief, pain, loss, and sorrow. In our weakest moments, that’s where God shows up and shows off because it causes us to lean on Him like never before. Just as there is a revelation in life lessons, there is strength in riding the waves of grief. As Citizens of Faith, we must be advocates of grief, walking through our struggles while grappling on to faith. It’s through these troubles we’ll be made strong enough to endure the storms. Today we sit down with Psalmist Gary Swindell Jr. as we explore God’s grace through grief.

How do you find your assignment in your 9-5? You stop asking “What God?” to “What do you want to reveal to me, God?” As a Purpose driven society, we’ve lost sight of the very thing God has ordained us to do for the world. We were designed in His image to be His hands and feet and to show love. If you’re struggling to understand or feel lost in your identity, what you’re called to do. Tune in this week as I sit down with Joey Salinas as we learn how our vocations form our Purpose.

When the call of forgiveness comes, will you answer? Often, we’re looking for closure by other people’s words. When it is God who allowed the very thing that caused us pain, trauma, grief, and heartache to be a chapter in our story. In our obedience, there is freedom in healing. There is forgiveness in the fire and the pit. Tune in as I sit down in a two-part series, where we first sit down with Judy Salinas to practically figure out how to forgive as grace makers. Join us next week for a bonus episode with her husband Joey Salinas.

Today we discuss the realness of how fear keeps us in bondage while in our walk. As we sit down with Paul Calcote, a Citizen of Faith and the Host from Real People Real Talk podcast, we not only discuss how to move forward spiritually but how to address fear even when you're a seasoned believer practically. The first step to conquering fear is acknowledging it. When we choose to ignore our weakness, that's where the devil thrives the most. Listen in as Paul, and I keep it real on what it means to live out Faith in Fear.
