Content creation is the future. What kind of content do you want to contribute to the cultural conversation? How do you create content more intentionally? We discuss these and other questions. Thanks for listening to the podcast.
Your favorite Wilder Creatives discuss a range of topics including: sign language, identity, homophobia, climate refugees, sustainability, social media and more.
Jake starts out on a weird one as he wrongly thinks that sign language is universal, which starts a talk about language and the difficulty of communication. It turns out that every country has their own sign language, but Jake didn't know that. Jake also makes a very bad joke that falls flat. Bad Jake, bad joke. The thing is, you have to cross into territory that you are unfamiliar with in order to grow. It is a process. In order to find out what you don't know sometimes you have to put your foot in your mouth. The joke was about if you could identify as being deaf, which has obvious problems with it, but the intention is to point out how worked up we have gotten as a culture about identifying ourselves. The joke wasn't making fun of deaf people, but of the impulse to identify as something else. While the joke fell flat, it opened up the topic of identity and how we define ourselves. This led to the idea that we might do better to identify as human first and foremost and to question why we limit ourselves by identifying solely with subgroups.
This also opens up the question about what is the source of your identity? How do you identify? Are you what you like or what you choose? How much of identity comes from self-identification or being identified from the outside? If you love ice cream but come from a family with a history of diabetes and you decide to choose a path of fitness instead of pleasure where is your identity in this nexus?
This is one of the fun things about doing a podcast. You start talking about a subject and find out that you know a lot less than you might think. It can lead to you new discoveries. It turns out that Madison really has a passion for sign language and now we are going to research that world.
Wilder Creatives go on another exciting hike, this time a bit more challenging than the rest.
The wind was incredibly strong, causing tree branches to fall out of trees at high speeds.
Jake, previously having worked as an arborist knew what to do in such a situation and handled it the best he knew how.
With great direction from him, we made it out safely and with no scratches, just a lot of sweat and fear.
What an experience! And quite the welcome back.
Previous to the experience with the high speed winds, Wilder Creatives discover a beautiful mustard field beneath the setting moon, a sight to be seen and captured.
Shortly after capturing that beauty, we come across something incredibly special..
A hawk flies right into someplace that was perfect for Jake to 'military crawl' to carefully and capture beautifully.
Jake talks about his experience and explains how truly special and incredible it was.
We discuss how we clean the studio and 'Vervify' the space.
Verve is a local coffee shop that is extremely orderly and aesthetically pleasing.
Jake comes up with this idea to start thrifting outfits to shoot in and also so much more...
