Keenan Berghoff, M.D., is an Indiana Hoosier by birth and education. He received an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his medical doctorate degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1998. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri, and a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy at the Texas Endosurgery Institute in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Berghoff returned home to Indiana after practicing general and minimally invasive surgery in Kansas City, Missouri, for three years. While there, he served as an associate professor of surgery for the University of Missouri. He is a board-certified general surgeon with special interest and training in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Berghoff has presented at international meetings and has published numerous journal articles on the techniques and advantages of minimally invasive surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and a committee member for the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He looks at bariatric surgery as an effective tool that helps motivated patients lose weight and live healthier, happier lives. Dr. Berghoff says his interest in surgery began with and continues to reward him because of his interest in people. “People and their life stories fascinate me, and I get the most satisfaction from my job by getting to know so many different people,” he says. “When I can help patients get better by being their surgeon and getting involved in their lives, it is then that I am most satisfied.”

Married and busy with four young children, Dr. Berghoff stays busy on and off the job. He salutes his wife, Molly, whom he says is “an excellent mother.” The family enjoys traveling together and following IU athletics when they have time off from work and school.
