Giannis Antetokounmpo hoisted the Larry O’Brien Trophy less than a month ago, but the NBA calendar stops for nobody as we gear up for the 2021–22 season. The draft is in the rearview mirror. Summer League will conclude Tuesday. As for free agency, the dust has largely settled, with a number of moves made over the last month nearly guaranteed to make an impact on the playoff race next spring.

Sha'Carri Richardson is preparing for her return to racing on the public stage, and she's not letting the critics get in her way.
The sprinter, 21, is set to compete at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon, but before she hits the track, she's shutting out any negative energy.
"I wish the people that talk mess about me was cute at least," the athlete wrote on Twitter Thursday.
In an earlier tweet the same day, Richardson replied to a fan who called out the "obsession" with trying to "break" the athlete's confidence.
"The love y'all show me, I'll never let the hate overshadow that. Positivity is sooo much greater than negativity," Richardson wrote in response. "That's why God always win and the devil fails."
In return, the Hornets would get an intriguing prospect in Nah’Shon Hyland. His draft stock skyrocketed during the combine and ended up being a first-round selection of the Nuggets.
Despite receiving a long-term contract extension, things can change in the NBA. If the Charlotte Hornets receive a surprisingly strong performance from James Bouknight then moving on from Rozier and his hefty contract would be the best long-term answer.
Fans all over the world awaited Richardson’s return to the field after her one-month suspension. She tested positive for marijuana and was banned from the Tokyo Olympics. Many believed that Richardson had a chance to take home an Olympic medal after winning the women’s 100 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in June.
However, Richardson didn’t live up to expectations at the 2021 Prefontaine Classic.

She holds the world record in the SCM sprint breaststroke, and at her latest appearance at the SOFLO Last Chance OLY Trials Qualifier in Florida, she clocked 1:08.76 in the 100-meter breaststroke. Prefontaine Classic: Richardson faces Thompson-Herah in 100m originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
The Tokyo Olympics answered the question of who the fastest woman in the world is. Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica took home three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay and broke Florence Griffith Joyner’s 100m Olympic record in the process. But the one feat she didn’t accomplish in Tokyo was beating American Sha’Carri Richardson.
Richardson returns to the track Saturday for the first time since the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. The 21-year-old sprinter was left off the U.S. Olympic roster after she tested positive for marijuana and was handed a 30-day suspension by the U.S. Anti Doping Agency.
Richardson will race against the three Jamaican women who completed a podium sweep in the 100m event in Tokyo: Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson. Richardson will also run in the 200m alongside Allyson Felix, Gabby Thomas and Jenna Prandini. 2016 200m Olympic gold medalist Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain will return to the event after she was forced to withdraw from the 200m final in Tokyo due to an injury.
Athing Mu will run in the women’s 800m event after taking home gold in Tokyo, while Noah Lyles will race against his brother Josephus, 200m silver medalist Kenny Bednarek and 400m hurdles silver medalist Rai Benjamin in the 200m.
As anticipated based off his prior allusions, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed Friday evening that Jameis Winston will start at quarterback against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the team’s second preseason game. It’s good to have that confirmation from Payton, but it’s something he previously suggested would happen based off his approach at quarterback throughout the summer — giving Taysom Hill the first shot before rotating Winston in with the starting lineup.
It is Stephen A’s world and Max Kellerman soon won’t be part of it.
Kellerman is expected to be removed from ESPN’s “First Take,” the show in which he and Stephen A. Smith verbally battle each other for hot-take supremacy, sources confirmed.
This is not the end of Kellerman at ESPN, as he is likely headed for the network’s morning national radio show to be teamed with Keyshawn Johnson, according to sources. Under the scenario, Kellerman would replace Zubin Mehenti. It is unclear if Jay Williams will remain on the program as it is a bit onerous with his NBA role. If everything is signed, the changes are expected to go through next month.

Sha'Carri Richardson snagged attention this summer after she won the women's 100-meter final during the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in fierce style.
Now, the track star is back with a bright brand new platinum blonde hairstyle that was revealed on Instagram this week.
In a video, Richardson is seen initally sitting in a salon chair with her natural deep brown hair. Then she's seen with long platinum blonde and blue ombre wavy strands.
She also switched into a blue Nike tank and matching briefs.
"August 21 and I’m not playing nice," she captioned the clip.

A positive drug test cost Sha’Carri Richardson the chance to run for Olympic gold in Tokyo, but the star American sprinter will face the all-Jamaican trio of 100-meter medalists next week at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon.
After finishing first at that distance at the U.S. Olympic trials in June, the 21-year-old Richardson was suspended for a month by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for marijuana, costing her a spot on the U.S. track and field squad.
Jamaican sprinters Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson finished in the top three spots, respectively, in the 100 meters in Tokyo – with Thompson-Herah setting an Olympic record with a time of 10.61 seconds.
The Los Angeles Lakers are by far the oldest team in the NBA. The average age of the new Big Three, in Lebron James (36), Russell Westbrook (32), and Anthony Davis(28), is 32 years old. When combined with their current roster, and the two most recent free agent signees in Kendrick Nunn(26) and Malik Monk(23), the roster truly is old. The age of the NBA veterans the Lakers signed throughout free agency brings the team’s average age to 31.8 years. This easily makes them the oldest team in the NBA by far. The closest team to Los Angeles in terms of average roster age is the Utah Jazz, whose team average age is 28.9 years. Does this make the Lakers too old to win, much less contend for an NBA Championship?
Lakers Trade for Westbrook
The Los Angeles Lakers decided to completely reimagine their roster once deciding to trade for Westbrook, acquiring him from the Washington Wizards. The Lakers believe that his dynamic playmaking ability, despite his age and poor perimeter shooting, will be a great addition to the oldest team in the league. Westbrook is famously known for his ability to average triple-doubles to fans who wait until the NBA Playoffs begin to pay closer attention to the NBA. Lakers fans know Westbrook is an extremely high competitor.

LiAngelo was offered a Summer League spot, and little was expected of him from fans. On the outside looking in it seemed like nepotism. Keep the star rookie happy entering his second year, let his brother in. No harm, no foul.
However, all that changed on Sunday night when LiAngelo made his debut for the Hornets against the Blazers and exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations. To be clear, it’s not like he lit the world on fire and dropped 30 on Portland or anything like that, but LiAngelo proved he could offer a niche Charlotte was lacking.

Charlotte ended up bringing home four draft picks in James Bouknight at 11, Kai Jones at 19, JT Thor at 37, and Scottie Lewis at 56th. Three high upside players in Bouknight, Jones, and Thor, and an athletic defensive specialist in Lewis.
Bouknight has true potential to be the Hornets co-star alongside 2020 Rookie of the Year Award winner LaMelo Ball. The pick of Bouknight likely means that Malik Monk’s time in Charlotte has come to an end as Bouknight directly fills his role of a spark bench scorer. Bouknight is super athletic and finishes at the rim very well which is something you don’t see too often from young guards. He also has elite scoring potential from all three levels so if he can develop properly Charlotte could be looking at the steal of this draft class.
Jones is an elite-level athlete who specializes in running the floor very well and is a lethal lob threat that should pair very nicely alongside the playmaking of Ball. A lot of mocks had Charlotte picking Jones at 11, and the value there was questionable at best. Being able to trade back into the first round and get him at 19 is a great move by the Hornets staff. They get a developmental center that already has the athletic ability to make a spark impact on the Hornets.
Andre Drummond of the Philadephia 76ers posted a stunning tweet on Thursday afternoon. It featured a video of a fully clothed Drummond jumping into his swimming pool to save his young son from drowning.
The video shows the little guy sitting by the pool with several adults around. As he gets up, he loses his balance and falls in. Everyone notices, but then suddenly, from out of nowhere, Drummond comes into frame and immediately jumps into the pool to save his son.
According to TMZ, Drummond's son is named Deon, and he's just two years old.
Deon spent just a few seconds underwater — thanks to his dad's heroic effort — but it's a tense, scary few seconds. Drummond tweeted that that it's "a parents worst nightmare," which every parent can almost certainly confirm.
Thankfully, the video had a happy ending. Not only was Deon safe, he was apparently smiling immediately after coming to the surface. And as soon as he was carried out of the pool and placed on the ground, he started trying to get back into the water. After that close call, none of the adults on hand were interested in letting that happen.

The Ball family patriarch was in attendance for today’s Summer League game between the Portland Trail Blazers and Charlotte Hornets to watch his two youngest sons, LaMelo and LiAngelo play. And as usual, LaVar made sure to rub his sons’ success in everyone’s face via his choice of headwear.
Cameras that panned to LaVar sitting in the stands caught the man wearing a hat that said “I Told You So!” in big, bold letters. Given that LaMelo is coming off Rookie of the Year honors while Lonzo is on the verge of a massive free agent contract, he’s earned the right to brag.
But unlike many previous times he’s bragged about his progeny, this time people are giving him his due. The image of the hat has quickly gone viral, garnering thousands of likes, retweets and comments in less than an hour.
Martin originally committed to play collegiately for Vanderbilt before opting for a postgraduate year at IMG Academy. He averaged 20 points and eight rebounds per game at IMG Academy, drawing praise for his athleticism. Martin scored 37 points at the National Prep Showcase and demonstrated an improved jump shot.

Veteran point guard Lonzo Ball has agreed to a four-year, $85 million contract with the Chicago Bulls as a restricted free agent, per Shams Charania. The New Orleans Pelicans have agreed to a sign-and-trade agreement, ensuring they don’t lose Ball for nothing according to Charania. The Bulls are sending Tomas Satoransky, Garrett Temple and a second-round pick to New Orleans and Ball will join the Bulls in return.
The Lakers are the Oldest team in the NBA -
The Los Angeles Lakers have filled out most of the roster and we are at the point in the offseason where the team is going to explore its final roster options. This will likely include the team signing a locker room veteran (such as Jared Dudley) but it could also include a young player to develop or a sharpshooter to help the rotation.
It would not be all that surprising to see the Lakers also leave one open roster spot for a future 10-day contract or buyout signing. It is smart to go into the season with 14 players instead of 15. The Lakers are currently at 12.
There has been a bit of a trend this offseason as Rob Pelinka has brought back four players who were formerly on the Lakers. Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington and Kent Bazemore are all former Lakers.
We have explored some of the former Lakers on the market but one name that has not come up much is Isaiah Thomas — who is in the news right now as he dropped an 81-point game, Kobe Bryant style…

That could move down slightly more, should restricted free agent Talen Horton-Tucker re-sign with the team they would still have an average age of 31.4, older than the 2015-16 Spurs, who had Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Andre Miller, all born in the 1970s.
This makes the Lakers the powerhouse team of 80s kids, and I love it. Perhaps the most stunning element of this old team situation is that the Lakers don’t have a single player on their roster who was drafted in the first round by the organization. Many y oung players were given up to acquire Anthony Davis, then more with Westbrook — which led to this elderly movement.
With Kevin Durant scoring 29 points, including two free throws with 8.8 seconds left to seal the win, the U.S. (5-1) won its fourth consecutive gold medal, fending off France (5-1) 87-82 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The Americans now have 16 golds from the 19 Olympics in which they have participated.
Durant has played a major role in each of the last three golds, and he’s now tied with Carmelo Anthony for the most gold medals in Olympic men’s basketball history. The Brooklyn Nets’ superstar scored 30 points in each of the prior two gold medal games.
“I hate to compare stuff because you know everything is its own moment,” Durant said, “but this is one of those special journeys that it’s just hard to describe, because each and every one of us put in that work every single day, from the coaches, to the trainers, to the players. Charlotte Hornets President of Basketball Operations & General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced today that the team has waived forward Caleb Martin.
In his second season with the Hornets, Martin averaged 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.4 minutes per game, appearing in 53 games. Over his two seasons with Charlotte from 2019-21, Martin posted averages of 5.3 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.0 minutes per game in 71 career games.
Undrafted out of Nevada in the 2019 NBA Draft, Martin originally signed with the Hornets on July 31, 2019.
When Vince Carter retired at the end of the 2019-20 season, it brought an end to the career of arguably the greatest in-game dunker of all-time. Miles Bridges is doing his best to fill that void. ... Bridges has already had a couple of throwdowns that are Dunk of the Year worthy, as well as a number of other jaw-droppers.
The move marks another big splash after the Bulls agreed to terms with Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso to fortify their back court on Day 1 of free agency.
With a slew of roster spots left to fill, the Bulls still have restricted rights on free agent Lauri Markkanen, who could be retained or signed-and-traded himself.

NBA Hall of Famer and former Lakers executive Magic Johnson had positive things to say about Hornets rookie guard LaMelo Ball on Thursday. Johnson made an appearance at the opening ceremony for the baseball team Gastonia Honey Hunters, a newly-formed team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.

The move is on track to happen as the team prepares to fully assemble its roster and depart for summer league in Las Vegas from August 8-17.
Playing in the league’s summer showcase next month could provide Ball, 22, with the opportunity he needs to jumpstart his career.
While LaMelo and Lonzo Ball have become excellent NBA players, their brother LiAngelo Ball hasn’t yet made his way onto an NBA team full-time. Bouncing around G League squads and summer league rosters, he’ll have his next shot at making an NBA roster this summer.
As first reported by Rod Boone of Sports Illustrated, LiAngelo Ball is expected to sign with the Hornets and be on their summer league roster.
Still 22 years old, this will be a great opportunity to showcase his skills in effort to earn a spot on the Hornets or another NBA team.
After going undrafted in 2018, Ball signed with the Oklahoma City Blue in the G League just three days prior to the league shutting down in March of 2020. Due to this, he never actually played in a game for the Blue, but did spend time on their practice squad.

Hurts begins this training camp as QB1, even if new coach Nick Sirianni won't yet name him as such, and he's returned to Philadelphia with the demeanor of a man who's ready to take full control of the offense. He's also changed his jersey number to the more familiar No. 1 he wore in his final year of college at Oklahoma.
"He's done everything possible off the field and during the spring practices to take the reins, and we want to see him do that," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. "This is a big year for any player that goes from year one to year two. So we're excited to see that, see his growth, and working with the ones."
Hurts has another reason to attack this training camp with relentless effort: He still needs to prove he's a viable solution at quarterback, starting with the short-term outlook. That outlook could get rattled a bit if the Eagles decide to use some of their recently acquired draft capital to upgrade under center (i.e., moving the three first-round picks requested by the Texans as compensation for Deshaun Watson).
And even if the Eagles stand pat at quarterback, they still need evidence that Hurts can be the guy in 2021 and beyond. That means it's time for Hurts to buckle down, tune out any outside trade chatter and take control of his future.

Nevertheless, there is always that other dark cloud looming over big-time college football and basketball. And it never goes away. It is a cloud of hypocrisy. Big-time college hoops and college football are defined by the NCAA in a glib and self-serving way: As long as the players aren’t getting paid openly, legally and directly, the serious business of the multibillion-dollar games can continue the charade that they are “amateur sports.”
And it’s the players, the pre-pros, who bear the burden of maintaining the charade, get caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar and risk losing everything from their reputations to their eligibility to play ball and their scholarships.
If the first wars were fought with sticks and stones, modern warfare is a high-tech battlefield where social media has emerged as a surprising — and effective — weapon. From Russian hacking to influence the American election to online recruitment for terror groups such as ISIS, an array of players are using false news and bogus accounts to stoke fear, incite violence and manipulate outcomes.
Authors Peter W. Singer and Emerson T. Brooking describe this as “likewar,” a term that plays on the Facebook “like” feature. In their new book, LikeWar: The Weaponization of Social Media, they explain how these platforms have become persuasive tools of propaganda. The recently joined the Knowledge@Wharton radio show on Sirius XM to discuss their work.
An edited transcript of the conversation follows.
Knowledge@Wharton: It is incredible how social media has developed and expanded rapidly in the last 20 years, and the impact it has had on politics.
Peter Singer: It’s absolutely fascinating. One of the people we interviewed for the book was the literal godfather of the internet itself, Vint Cerf. He talked about how it was once this military network for scientists, and then there was this moment when the scientists began to email back and forth about science fiction. That’s when he realized, “Hold it. It’s become this social thing.”
You move forward, and now [there’s] Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, you name it. They’re not just the nervous system of the modern world, they’re where we do business. They’re where we set up dates. But they’ve also become this space of battle, and battle over everything from political campaigns to use in military operations, marketing wars, you name it.
One of the things that the book is about is essentially how, if cyberwar was the hacking of networks that both governments and businesses have had to deal with, we now have this phenomenon of what we call “likewar,” which is the hacking of the people on the networks by this mix of “likes,” but also lies.
Knowledge@Wharton: You think about the stories we’ve heard about ISIS and other organizations using social media to recruit people. Can you talk about that?
Emerson Brooking: This issue came on our radar and the radar of a lot of folks across the country back in the summer of 2014, when the Islamic State invaded northern Iraq. They only had about 1,500 militants. They had pickup trucks and secondhand weapons from a lot of militant groups past.
But they did something new, and that was instead of keep their invasion a secret, they actually tweeted about it. They had a hashtag campaign, #AllEyesOnISIS, which they used to consolidate and broadcast their propaganda. And they had a huge network of both passionate supporters but also Twitter bots, which they used to lock down the trending hashtags on Twitter for the Arabic-speaking users.
“Over a very short period of time, a handful of tech geeks have become among the most powerful figures in all of politics and war.”
As a result of that, even though they only had a small invading force, they were effectively able to spread fear [and seem to become] much greater than they were, and pushed these demoralized defenders of a city like Mosul — with 1.5 million residents — to drop their weapons and flee. In the process, ISIS started scoring these propaganda videos and weaving them back into their online messaging. It became a source of great inspiration for people following along at home.It was a direct result of these online tactics that they were able to recruit some 30,000 fighters from the Middle East, but also the wider world — more than 100 countries where people would leave their homes to journey to Syria and Iraq to join them. Or if that wasn’t possible, they felt inspired to commit acts of violence at home.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the most unlikely superstars in NBA history. The son of Nigerian immigrants who settled in Greece, Antetokounmpo and his brothers famously sold watches and sunglasses in the streets to help their parents make ends meet. Antetokounmpo started playing basketball around 13 years old and turned pro a few years later in the lower levels of the Greek league.
There wasn’t much footage of Antetokounmpo against high-level competition when he entered the 2013 NBA Draft, but the Milwaukee Bucks were still intrigued enough to take him No. 15 overall. Antetokounmpo only averaged six points per game as a rookie but improved rapidly each year. By his sixth NBA season, at 24 years old, he was named MVP and led the Bucks to the best record in the league during the regular season. He repeated both accomplishments again the next year, and also added a Defensive Player of the Year award to his mantle.
Playoff success was harder to come by for the Bucks. They reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2019, but blew a 2-0 lead to the Toronto Raptors. During the 2020 playoffs in the bubble, the Bucks were upset by the Miami Heat in five games as Antetokounmpo exited the series with an injury in Game 4.
The Bucks are in the 2021 NBA Finals this year, where they have battled back from an 0-2 hole to tie their series against the Phoenix Suns. Ahead of a pivotal Game 5, Antetokounmpo was asked how he’s learned to keep his ego in check despite so many accomplishments at age-26. His answer was perfect.

What is going on!!! "We’re witnessing the unraveling of E pluribus unum in real time," former CIA officer Brian Dean Wright fumed, referencing the traditional motto of the United States, which is Latin for "Out of many, one."
"The consequences will be dire," Dean Wright warned.
Other social media critics also railed against the decision to perform two anthems.
"I didn’t get the memo, we have a new anthem? And what was wrong with our original one?" one Twitter user responded to the announcement.
"What? I thought we were ALL Americans?! Now divided by color? What happened to one nation, under God, indivisible? Talk about dividing us…" another said.
PATERSON — In a narrow city apartment building, with at least one police officer looking on, a Paterson father engaged in a loud, profanity-laced cellphone conversation, expressing his anger and frustration over not being allowed to see his young children.
For more than two minutes, the officer — whose name has not been made public — stayed away from the agitated man, seemingly employing de-escalation techniques that are supposed to prevent physical confrontations between cops and citizens.
But in a matter of moments, the tense situation erupted in violence — a scuffle seemingly initiated by another police officer at the scene who hit the father and later kneed the man in the face while he was sitting on the floor of the hallway with his wrists handcuffed behind his back, the video shows.
Mayor Andre Sayegh on Wednesday night made public the video that was recorded by the body camera of the officer who tried to calm the angry father in the May 26 confrontation. About two weeks after the incident, authorities arrested the other cop, 44-year-old Spencer Finch, an 18-year veteran of the Paterson Police Department, and charged him with assault, official misconduct and trying to conceal his actions by filing a false police report.
The mayor said he decided to release the video after conferring with his municipal law director, Aymen Aboushi, an attorney who prior to taking the city job had filed in his private practice five federal civil rights lawsuits accusing Paterson police officers of using excessive force against the public.
“That’s why we pushed for body cameras, so people could see for themselves what happened,” Sayegh said on Thursday morning of his decision to release the video.
Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes, who filed the criminal charges against Finch, did not respond to two messages from a reporter asking if she supported Sayegh’s release of the video.

Criticism, praise surround excessive force lawsuit
Diego Navas, a lawyer representing a Paterson man in a police excessive force lawsuit against the city, praised the decision.
“I am glad to see the administration releasing the video and trying to be transparent but it is obvious this department has some deep-rooted problems,” Navas said. “They have to reconsider who they are recruiting as officers and how they are being trained if they ever want to turn this department around.”
The video-recorded beating of Navas’ client prompted the United States Attorney’s Office to file criminal charges against those cops — Kevin Patino and Kendry Tineo.
Finch’s lawyer, Anthony J. Iacullo, has asserted his client’s actions were “appropriate.”
When asked by a reporter for further explanation, Iacullo said, “It is not my practice to comment on the specific allegations or potential evidence that may or may not be introduced at the time of trial.”
“To do so,” Iacullo added, “would be an improper attempt to prejudice those individuals who may be called upon to serve on a jury regarding this very case. I feel this case is best left to be commented upon in the courtroom, not the press."
The leaders of Paterson police unions declined to comment on the Finch video. But local Black Lives Matter leader Zellie Thomas called the events captured on the video “disgusting but not surprising.”
“People in Paterson have been beaten by police officers using excessive force for years,” Thomas said. “What we’re seeing in that video — while it’s horrific — it’s nothing new.”
Thomas said city officials have tried to explain away other police brutality cases — like the seven Paterson cops convicted in recent years by the FBI — by citing the lack of law enforcement experience of the culprits. But Finch has been on the force for almost two decades, the activist said.
“This shows that this type of behavior is part of the culture in the Paterson police department,” Thomas said. “The new officers are learning this from the ones who have been there.”
Court records: Paterson officer never activated bodycam
After years of delays, Paterson was last among New Jersey’s major cities to equip its police officers with body cameras. The first Paterson cops got the recording devices at the end of last December and currently about 150 of the city’s almost 400 officers have them.
Court records say Finch never activated his body camera during the May 26 incident. But the prosecutor’s office cited the video from another officer’s device as evidence against Finch.
The situation unraveled right after the unnamed officer tried to calm the angry father, saying, “Alright, c’mon.”
“Are you a father?” the man asked the cop. “Are you a father?”
“No,” the officer responded.
“You’re not a father, you don’t understand,” the man shouted. “Three times, this is the third time my kids have been taken from me.”
“Yelling ain’t going to help,” said the officer.
As the officer spoke those words, the cop whom authorities have identified as Finch brushed past his colleague, hit the man in the head and forced him to the hallway floor, the video showed.
During the ensuing scuffle, a woman in one of the apartments — apparently the person who had been on the other end of the phone conversation — opened her door and started screaming at length.
“That’s it, we gave you [an expletive] chance,” said one of the officers.
While face-down on the floor, the man objected to the cops’ actions. “That’s some [expletive],” he said.
The woman told the man to stop resisting the officers. “I’m not, I’m not resisting,” said the man — whose name has not been made public — as the cops pressed him against the floor.
“Yo, you saw him punch me in my [expletive], dog,” the man said to the officer wearing the body camera.
“I know, but I need to get you up,” the officer responded. “Let’s go.”
While sitting upright on the floor, the man then said to Finch, “Look me in my eye.”
At those words, Finch violently hit the man in the face area with his knee, the video showed.
Authorities and city officials have not disclosed if Finch was present in the hallway during the entire time when the other officer tried to calm the angry father, or if he only arrived toward the end. Finch has been suspended without pay, but the city's police union contracts require he resume getting paid after 30 days.
Thomas, the BLM activist, said he thinks the officer whose body camera recorded the incident also should get some type of penalty for not intervening.
“It’s his duty, he’s supposed to protect people,” Thomas said. “He should be disciplined.”
City officials have not revealed whether the unidentified cop faces any punishment. Paterson has not yet released the police reports on the angry father’s arrest in this case. He was charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, authorities said.
Officials have not disclosed whether the man who was hit by Finch filed an Internal Affairs complaint or if the investigation started some other way.

When it comes to the Los Angeles Lakers, the state of the union isn't strong.
Should you have been unaccountably myopic and mentally moribund, causing you to drift to the New England Patriots Super Bowl celebrations, you may not know that the Los Angeles Lakers have been torn asunder of late.
Strong rumors have it that the Lakers are prepared to trade anyone and everyone not named LeBron James to the New Orleans Pelicans in order to secure the haughty services of Anthony Davis.
Imagine, please, being one of the players whom the Lakers were prepared to trade.
Every day, you're reading about your alleged inclusion in the trade.
Every day, you're supposed to play on a team that includes the superstar who, so rumors have it, is orchestrating your trade away from the glamour of Los Angeles to the relative basketball backwater of New Orleans.
You might think that James, like a fine, manipulative, self-regarding corporate citizen, would try and at least pretend he was a good team player.
And then, on Tuesday, the Lakers went out and gave an abject performance on the road in Indianapolis.
Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard, Paul George finally show what they can be as a duo in Game 5.
Leonard is expected to re-sign with the team after declining his $36 million player option this summer, but would a second consecutive early playoff exit change that thinking? The Clippers granted a four-year, $190 million extension to George before the season started, but would their long-term commitment to him change after another playoff disappointment?
“We both understand we've got to be aggressive from this point on and do whatever it takes to win,” George said. “That's just a mentality we had to come out, get this team on the right start offensively and again just be aggressive. That's just what it's going to come down to for us.”
Hardly news-breaking that the Clippers’ championship fortunes largely rest on Leonard and George.
After seeing Leonard collect NBA titles in San Antonio (2014) and Toronto (2019), the Clippers felt he could do the same for them. After seeing George show potential as both the leader in Indiana and Russell Westbrook’s sidekick in Oklahoma City, the Clippers felt George’s presence would both compel Leonard to join the team and provide the support he needs to win an NBA title.
But the Clippers squandered a 3-1 series lead to the Denver Nuggets last year in the NBA bubble. Neither Leonard nor George delivered in the team’s Game 7 loss to Denver.
The Clippers then replaced Doc Rivers and promoted Lue as head coach, while making tweaks with off-season frontcourt changes (Serge Ibaka & Nicolas Batum in place of Montrezll Harrell) and trade-deadline deals to switch up their backcourt (veteran playmaker Rajon Rondo in place of secondary scorer Lou Williams). Meanwhile, Leonard and George had another season to play together more.
“It’s still evolving,” Leonard said. “Our chemistry is still going. Doc and T-Lue are two different coaches. So coming from one set of plays going to a new set of plays, you always have to read the chemistry from that. We’re both out there just trying to win a basketball game. If one of us has it going, or one of our teammates, we are going to look for him.”
That’s not to say that Leonard and George have not played well this season.

From last season to this season, Leonard has shot more efficiently (47% to 51.2%) and has played more minutes (32.4 to 34.1) with fewer injuries. In the regular season, George showed increases from last season to this season in scoring (21.5 points to 23.3), shooting percentage (43.9% to 46.7%), rebounds (5.7 to 6.6) and assists (3.9 to 5.2).
In the playoffs?
While Leonard had dominant performances in the Clippers’ first-round series against Dallas in Game 2 (41 points), Game 3 (36) and Game 6 (45), George impressed the Clippers with his consistent rebounding (7.0 per game).
Against the Jazz, though, the Clippers needed Leonard to maintain his dominance and George to elevate his game. Neither happened in the first two games. While Leonard averaged 22 points on 47.3% shooting, George added 23.5 points but at just a 34% clip.
Leonard somewhat defended their play by pointing out both often “made the right basketball play” and called on teammates to make open shots. But even if the Clippers have avoided attacking the rim when Jazz center Rudy Gobert stays in the paint, Lue conceded beforehand that Leonard and George “got to be a little bit more aggressive.”
Lue received his wish.
Game 3 marked the fourth time in his career, and third as a Clipper, Leonard finished a playoff game with at least 30 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. This was George’s first 30-point these playoffs. Their play offset Mitchell’s 30 point-night, which ended with him sitting out the final seven minutes because of emerging pain in his right ankle.
“PG and Kawhi really set the tone,” Lue said. “That's what we need from our two best players to be able to do that and set the table for everyone else.”
After the Jazz stormed to an 8-0 lead in the first 74 seconds, George answered with eight first-quarter points. He spent the rest of the night canning pull-up jumpers, making step-back 3-pointers and finishing through contact at the rim.
“I just shot my shots to get the shots I'm most comfortable with and stuck with it. Simple as that,” George said. “It's just putting pressure, whether I'm shooting the ball, scoring or making plays. It's just all about putting the pressure on the defense and just staying with an attack mentality all game.”
Leonard carried that mentality in the second half, scoring 12 points in both the third and fourth quarters. During that stretch, Leonard made a pair of reverse layups, floaters near the rim and pull-up jumpers.
“We’re just playing the flow of the game pretty much, trying to do everything, whether it’s defense, rebounding the basketball or talking on the floor,” Leonard said. “Shots are going to go in or not. But our job is to keep being aggressive for ourselves and others.”
By doing that, Leonard and George ensured the Clippers’ season – and their partnership – remain intact at least for a little bit longer.

The Phoenix Suns ended a Conference semifinal with a 125-118 Game 4 win over the Nuggets on Sunday in front of 18,290 fans at Ball Arena.
Chris Paul again took the lead from the runner-up Suns into the final of the Western Conference for the first time since 2010, the last time they reached the playoffs.

The Phoenix Suns lambasted the Denver Nuggets, taking a 2-0 series lead in the second round of the 2021 Playoffs
LeBron James couldn't help but tip his hat to Devin Booker after the Phoenix Suns star's tremendous performance on Thursday.
After the Suns beat the Lakers 113-100 in a series-clinching Game 6, James met with Booker off the court to give him a signed jersey.
"Continue to be great," James wrote on the jersey.
Booker was electric in Game 6, leading the Suns from the get-go with a record-setting 22-point first-quarter performance. He finished with a playoff career-high 47 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in 46 minutes.
James, meanwhile, had an impressive performance of his own, notching 29 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes.
However, without Anthony Davis, who left the game with a groin injury after only playing five minutes, James and the rest of the Lakers showed little resistance to a Suns squad that is on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.

The Apostles had just returned from preaching and was giving Jesus a report of what had happened. No doubt he sensed their need for rest and called them away to a place they would be alone. The multitudes however followed them. Jesus began to minister to them and it was getting late in the day and he realized their need for food. With 5000 men plus women and children it would take a lot to feed them. There would not be an adequate source for food and he called on the apostles. Pennyworth was about a days wages.
God never takes a backward step. It is not His way; so, don’t you retreat in fear or intimidation when the going gets tough. Go through and come out the other side into the spacious place that God has prepared for you. God’s plan comes to pass through forward motion.
God will clearly speak to you about the critical issues of your life – the ones that have been causing you strain and distress. Divine direction is your portion in this season, and as you keep pressing into His Word over your life, God will appoint for you midwives to help you birth your dream. I declare that you will receive fresh vision and revelation of your future so much that all weariness and discouragement will leave your life.
Keep walking. Keep loving and making room for others. Don’t compete and push for power, but keep preferring others and giving honor to one another. That is God’s way. We need each other and we are walking together so that we can sharpen one another. We have so much to accomplish together for the Kingdom of God. There is so much room for everyone to rise up and become awesome, and every one of us is significant to God’s plan and purpose.
Whatever you do today, keep walking. God is moving supernaturally in your life and this time your expectation shall not be denied.
Nehemiah was a high official in the Persian court of King Artaxerxes I at the capital city of Susa, which lay 150 miles east of the Tigris River in what is now modern Iran. Nehemiah served as the king’s cupbearer (Nehemiah 1:11), which evidently put him in a position to speak to the king and request favors from him. After hearing about the sad state of affairs in Judah, Nehemiah acquired the king’s permission to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the city and its fortifications. He is even given letters from the king to ensure safe passage and to obtain timber from the king’s forest for the gates and walls of Jerusalem.

The apostle Paul by trade was a tentmaker. He also knew something about constructing a building. In fact he likened himself to "a wise master builder." He understood that you begin with the foundation. As far as Paul's ministry was concerned, in accordance with God's building code he laid only one foundation. "For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." See 1 Corinthians 3:10, 11.
When you became a Christian, the Lord Jesus Christ became your foundation for life. From the point of your conversion you began to build on this foundation. Bear in mind that this foundation was expensive. It cost Jesus Christ His life. In the light of this we are admonished, "Let each one take heed how he builds on it." How foolish to use inferior building materials upon such a costly foundation!
Paul makes reference to six kinds of building materials: gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, and straw. A wise master builder will only use gold, silver, and precious stones. Wood, hay, and straw will never meet the requirements of God's building code.
The building materials represent our works as believers. Gold, silver, and precious stones are those works that we do for the glory of God. Wood, hay, and straw are carnal works done in the flesh for self. At times even inferior products can be made to look more valuable than they are. The Pharisees were great at publicly displaying their imitations of gold, silver, and precious stones. They tithed, and everyone knew it. They went to great lengths to show off their obedience to the tradition of the elders. They prayed long, loud, beautiful prayers. They received their reward in the praise of men. Christians are not Pharisees, but we need to be careful that we are not seeking personal glory in our service for the Lord.
Those who build houses understand that their work must stand the test of the building inspectors. For the Christian the life which they have built will be tested by the Chief Building Inspector. "Each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire."
Eternal salvation is a gift. However, rewards are earned. As a Christian, be careful how you build on that foundation which is Jesus Christ. No imitations. Live for His glory.
Prayer to God changes things - do you want things in your life to change you have to open the lines of prophetic communication.
Man should always pray and not faint. Satan is busy the body must be busier in the spirit. God can not lie neither must He repent. If He said it, it must come to past. Don’t wavier....

With the Love of God
When the Apostle Paul closes what is the magnum opus of Christian doctrine in the Bible, he breaks into song! It's only right that he do so. How should you tie off the greatest story ever told? After walking through the grand reasons behind God's rescuing love for rebel sinners, only a doxology will do.
So with a heart that is full and a mind on fire, Paul intones the words of Rom. 16:25-27: "Now to Him who has power to strengthen you according to my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the sacred secret kept silent for long ages, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic Scriptures, according to the command of the eternal God, to advance the obedience of faith among all nations - to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ - to Him be the glory forever! Amen."
Notice the in last phrases of the entire book of Romans, Paul emphasizes one attribute of God - His wisdom. Verse 27: "to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever! Amen." My aim in this message, as it has been in every message under the banner of SEEING GOD FOR WHO HE IS, is to open a window in your mind to the infinite expanses of God. And particularly this morning, my goal is to display before you the wisdom of God, so that you see it more clearly and admire Him more intensely and trust Him more firmly and therefore obey Him more consistently and joyfully. Spiritual Warfare: What is it?
Spiritual warfare exists in the unseen, supernatural dimension, where God is all-powerful and Satan is in revolt. As any Christian soon discovers, although spiritual warfare is unseen, it’s absolutely real. The Bible speaks of spiritual warfare in many places, but most directly in Ephesians 6:12, where Paul speaks of putting on the full armor of God:
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Spiritual Warfare: How Do We Go Into Battle as Christians?
Spiritual warfare is an image that many of us would rather reject. However, since the Bible uses terms of warfare, it’s best that we accept God’s imagery, so that we’re properly prepared for real battle. As Christians, we’re going through more than a mere “struggle” on earth – and its seems that war imagery captures this reality better than anything else. Since it’s warfare, God instructs Christians to use a very specific set of armor and weapons in Ephesians 6:14-18:
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit...”
God’s list of weaponry is rather unique – these are “weapons of peace.”
Spiritual warfare is the Christian concept of fighting against the work of preternatural evil forces. It is based on the biblical belief in evil spirits, or demons, that are said to intervene in human affairs in various ways.
Whether we try to bury or ignore it or not, the impact of a person’s trauma remains. The American Psychological Association wrote that “traumatic events challenge an individual’s view of the world as a just, safe and predictable place.” This shake-up to a person’s very worldview changes the course of their life. “The effects of unresolved trauma can be devastating,” wrote Dr. Peter Levine, author of Healing Trauma. “It can affect our habits and outlook on life, leading to addictions and poor decision-making. It can take a toll on our family life and interpersonal relationships. It can trigger real physical pain, symptoms, and disease. And it can lead to a range of self-destructive behaviors.”

Religion vs Relationship With God
What is the difference between Religion and Relationship with Jesus Christ ? Religion can be very different than having a Relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Religions are man made and are based on trying to get to God through rules and regulations and good works. All man made religions are based on people’s efforts at reaching God and being made right with Him through their own efforts.
But God’s plan for man’s salvation and for having a restored personal relationship with Him is told throughout the Bible. In the Old Testament and the New Testament alike. God’s plan is not based on people’s efforts and good works. His plan is based on His amazing Love and amazing Grace for us. God’s plan involved His precious Son Jesus paying the price and cost for our sins on the cross.
You need to put ALL of your trust and faith in Jesus and in what He did for us on the cross. Not in any religion or church or in your own efforts. If you put all of your trust and faith in Jesus, repent from your sins, and commit to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, then you can experience the joy of a right love RELATIONSHIP with God.

This Bible study on Understanding the Battle of Spiritual Warfare will give us a foundation on where, how and what the battles look like in our lives. We are going to examine three main areas of where the battles are fought: the Spiritual Battle, the Worldly Battle, and the Battle Within Us. We will review and discuss what the Bible says regarding these areas and will learn how to apply the scriptures to our personal lives to bring victory over these battles. It begins with learning the truth of God's Word and dispelling the lies of the enemy.
There is likewise this element of danger in the Christian life about which Paul cautions the Ephesian church. It is a danger that is not just from within ourselves, but that also has a particular, specific external source: a spiritual entity we call Satan (“the accuser”), or the devil. We know this because in verses 11-12 Paul says that the reason for putting on the full armor of God is so that “you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against . . . the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

You never know who's watching you. And someone always is, whether your child, your sibling, your spouse, your friend, or a stranger in another car on the road. Emotions and inner life states are transmitted like viruses via our words and actions, even from the quietest and smallest. Nothing can encourage us like someone else's good example. They're frankly few and far between—but they're there if you look for them. Want to create value with your life? Become a good influence. Stop and think. What better service can you provide someone else than being a good example to them? Not with conscious intention, which always seems contrived and has little power to encourage, but by simply (oh, ironic word) becoming the examples you yourself want to see. As I wrote in a previous post, How To Communicate With Your Life, when you've actually become something, others see it in almost everything you do.
God is the creator of all things, and his creative vision is big enough to include women from all walks and stages of life, from different backgrounds and cultures. His kingdom purposes transcend generations. His will is big enough to include young girls like you, who commit themselves to prayer, and virgins like Mary, the young mother of Jesus. His plans are big enough for women like Elizabeth, Rachel, and Hannah—all of whom experienced prolonged seasons of infertility. His purposes include women with pagan pasts like Ruth, prostitutes like Rahab, and rejected, widowed, adulterous women like the Samaritan woman at the well. He sees marginalized and enslaved women like Hagar, and old women like the prophetess Anna. We compassionately embrace women like these because God’s purpose and plans include all of them. God’s purpose includes you as well!
Have you known that kind of peace in the midst of chaos in your life? Have you felt God’s love when you’ve walked through a tragedy? Is there something big and strong and comforting at the bottom of your responses to discouragement, disappointment, and loss?
In Christ, it can be well for you whatever the circumstance. He died for you. He sympathizes with your pain. He stays with you. And he promises to deliver you to himself, where he will forever guard you perfectly from sin, death, suffering, and grief.

The Bible teaches us that from the very beginning, Jesus was God’s design in creation. Scott Kauffmann writes,
God bookends our existence: it characterizes both the Garden and the eternal City, and so provides the vision for our existence in between.
God existed at the beginning of creation, and it’s still where God wants us to be focused today.
David, Israel's greatest king, is one of the most amazing men who ever lived. He is known as being a man after God's own heart (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22) yet his life is filled with similar ups and downs as those faced by most men today.

The apostle Paul wrote eloquently of overcoming in Romans 8:35–39. He summarizes the power believers have through the Holy Spirit to overcome any attacks of the enemy. Verse 37 says, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”

True repentance calls for breaking and being renewed according to the word of God. Those God loves his disciplines. We all should gladly say, Break me" Lord so that I can live in you.
Psalm 51:17 says, “My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.” The meaning of this is connected with the verse just before it. Verse 16 says, “You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.” David is stating that there is nothing we can offer God to appease Him when we have sinned. More animal sacrifices were not what God was looking for. God desires true repentance.
True repentance is the acceptance of being broke and made new to live in the will of God.

The tongue” is used throughout Scripture in both literal and metaphorical ways, especially in Psalms, Proverbs, and James. The tongue is a “small part of the body” (James 3:5), yet Proverbs 18:21 says it “has the power of life and death.” This holds true whether we’re speaking of spiritual, physical, or emotional “life and death.”
First, we should keep in mind that the word tongue is often a reference to the spoken word. This is a special kind of figure of speech called metonymy, in which one word stands in for another, closely related word. A common example of metonymy is seen in this sentence: “The White House issued a statement.” Of course, the White House, as a building, cannot issue statements; however, in this instance, White House refers to the President, who lives there. In the same way, when Proverbs 15:4 states, “A deceitful tongue crushes the spirit,” tongue is a metonymy. Obviously, a literal, fleshly tongue cannot crush the human spirit, but the words the tongue produces can.
Spiritual:
What our tongue produces has eternal implications, for it reveals what is in our heart. Jesus said that “the good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him” (Matthew 12:35). Isaiah places words on par with actions for displaying a sinful heart (Isaiah 59:2-3). “Men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken” (Matthew 12:36). In and of ourselves, we are utterly unable to “tame the tongue” because “it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). A tongue under control is a mark of the Spirit’s power. Apart from accepting Jesus’ atonement on the cross, we will be judged according to our words: “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned” (Matthew 12:37).

First Lady Deborah JohnsonI thank God that Jesus was never waiting for me to let him in, for if he had been, he still would be. I would never have let him in. And this is should be an obvious tip-off to the error of the popular interpretation of verse 20: nowhere in Scripture is there any hint that Christ needs our acceptance. No, it is we who need to be made acceptable to God. My salvation was never dependent on me accepting him, but on him making me acceptable to the Father. That is what the gospel is all about. It is what Christ accomplished on the cross.

People die because of something said. Tongues can be weapons of mass destruction, launching holocausts and wars. Tongues can also be the death of marriages, families, friendships, churches, careers, hopes, understanding, reputations, missionary efforts, and governments.
But people also live because of something said. The tongue can be “a tree of life” (Proverbs 15:4). Tongues reconcile peoples and make peace. “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9). Tongues can make marriages sweet, families strong, and churches healthy. Tongues can give hope to the despairing, advance understanding, and spread the gospel.
So what will come out of your mouth today, death or life? “Sword thrusts” or “healing” (Proverbs 12:18)?

The modern feminist movement has brought into a sharp focus the role of Christian women in the church and home. It has caused a great controversy; many denominations have changed their positions regarding the role of women and now have women preachers and deacons. Many justify their change in position, claiming that the Bible discriminates against women and states that Paul's writings reflect his anti female bias. Many just argue that what the Bible says is outdated and not in line with modern thought and was only a cultural restriction that too applied in Paul's day. The result has been that some have reinterpreted the passages that deal with women in Scripture and by ignoring sound biblical interpretation, have given these scriptures a meaning in line with the feminist movement.
The real issue is the church living under Judaism and not knowing, whereby the churches focus is on women only and not the man.

Pastors Assistant Church pastors or ministry leaders select armor bearers to support them, especially with prayer. They are so named because in Old Testament times, kings selected certain officers to stand with them in war and to bear their armor. Several passages refer to armor bearers including Judges 9:54; and I Samuel 14:7, 16:21 and 31:6. Armor bearers fulfill a wide variety of duties, depending mostly on the leader's needs. Generally, men should serve other men and women should serve women because assistance with personal issues is usually part of the armor bearer's duties.
Women in the bible were strong, capable women, these ladies didn’t sit around waiting for someone else to get the job done. They feared God and lived faithfully. They did what they needed to do.
