This is my tribute to Madlib, one of the best Hip Hop producers to ever do it imo. Back in the late 90’s me and mate Rees used to make each other mixtapes. We’d try and one up each other by finding mint tunes that other the one hadn’t heard. So spent a lot of time buying underground Hip Hop cd’s. We stumbled on an album called Superrappin’, the stand out track being New Years Resolution by Lootpack. Had never heard of them before but was impressed with a producer that would take on a Preemo sample. Their album Soundpieces : Da Antidote followed and the rest is history. One of my favourite and possibly one of the most influential groups of all time, Sly & the Family Stone. Formed in San Fransisco in 1966, the first major American group to have a racially integrated and male/ female line up. This tribute mix features music from their first 5 albums “A Whole New Thing” “Dance To The Music” “Life” “Stand !” and “There’s A Riot Goin’ On” 1967 to 1971. Also the albums that included the original lineup, Sly, Freddie and Rose Stone, Greg Errico, Jerry Martini, Cynthia Robinson and Larry Graham, trailblazers

Hope you're all well and staying safe. Now then, where to start. The Cocteau Twins, Elizabeth Fraser, Simon Raymonde and Robin Guthrie, one of my favourite groups of all time. Formed in Scotland in 1979 and disbanded in 1997. How to describe them, labelled as Goths initially, dream pop, shoe gaze, ethereal, none of these fully explain their greatness or sound imo. Too hard to pigeonhole, a truly unique band. If there is such a place as heaven and it doesn't sound like Elizabeth Fraser I'm not sure I'd want to go. Probably better if I let their music do the talking for me. Featuring tracks from 1982 through to 1996. Some obvious selections, some not so. Ladies and Gentlemen, please enjoy...The Cocteau Twins

So, on New Years Eve we learned the sad news that Daniel Dumile aka MF DOOM had passed away, gone back to the essence. Had been a massive fan of his music from the KMD days but it was really when he created the DOOM persona he hit genius levels imo. A totally unique artist who will be greatly missed
For this tribute I went deep into his catalogue, featuring music by all his personas, DOOM, Viktor Vaughn and King Geedorah, and some of my favourite guest appearances, working with other artists. and so it began...
First signed to Westbound in 68 and dropped their first album ( Funkadelic ) in 1970. There where various line ups over the next 5 years but the quality of the recorded output always remained the same high standard. The mix features music from their their first seven albums with Westbound, Funkadelic, Free Your Mind ( And Your Ass Will Follow ), Maggot Brain, America Eats It Young, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Gettin it on and Let's Take It To The Stage ( I didn't include Tales of Kidd Funkadelic because it was released after the band left Westbound for Warner Brothers, and it was contractual obligation as oppose a labour of funky love, plus it was hard enough breaking down 7 albums into a mix !!! :D )
The mix features many of my favourite tracks from that period and I've chosen the tunes with more of a guitar heavy lean. The Funk however, was never faked. Probably my favourite group of all time, please enjoy a different kind of SOUL !! The Funkadelic on Westbound Records

Been sitting on this mix for a little while, made it for myself when Autumn hit. I always feel melancholy around that time of year and not in a bad way either. It's the first anniversary of Bowie's passing on the 10th January, and what would've been his 70th Birthday on the 8th so I thought it would be an ideal time to share it. It's a 50 year retrospective of some of my favourite melancholic and moody tracks. His voice had such a range of emotions, unmatched by any other rock/ alternative vocalist in my opinion. His talent will be forever greatly missed but at least we still have his music and all the memories connected with it. A mix more for the connoisseur than the casual fan I think, but give it a listen, you never know :)
