In this edition of Moccasin Tracks we are featuring a segment from the documentary,"Carolyn Black Hunt Storyteller Artist Seamstress Cultural Ambassador". Since Carolyn had a stroke we are reading her stories with her oversight to keep the stories alive and part of living Abenaki culture. Aphasia has limited her ability to tell the stories and we hope this project will bring awareness to you about strokes and healing.
The first story is read by Serena Kovalosky an old friend and apprentice firekeeper with Rick Hunt. The First Strawberry is a beautiful story about Love and relationships and healing.
In the second story, Beaver and Bear, Chief Shirly Hook reads the story as told by Carolyn Black Hunt. The animals talk to one another and learn lessons about greed and destruction.

Rhonda Anderson is Iñupiaq - Athabascan from Alaska. She grew up in western Mass
where she is an educator, mother and artist.
Rhonda is Commissioner to Indian Affairs in Western Massachusetts. a founding member of the Ohketeau Cultural Council and the Native Youth Empowerment Foundation, as well as a representative of Native Movement.
We talk about recent legislature in Massachusetts and Vermont about Native Mascot imagery and the harm it causes, what needs to be done and the importance of hearing the perspectives of tribes and Nations.
Carolyn Black Hunt is retired from storytelling but her stories live on. We recorded this story back in 2013. She lives with her Abenaki artist husband Rick Hunt in Littleton, NH.

In this edition of Moccasin Tracks we feature 2 interviews. In part one we talk with Tela Troge, attorney for the Shinnecock Nation. She updates us on the Monuments and shares about the ongoing struggles of her Nation. Using social media to promote the sovereignty of the Shinnecock Nation, a teach-in was held and actions were taken calling on the state of New York to stop harassing the Shinnecock Nation as they are the original inhabitants and have Federal recognition and tribal sovereignty as such. Since this pandemic is keeping radio producing at home, in this interview with Mohiks we recorded on a Zoom meet-up. Earl Tulley is one of the co-founders of Dine Care (Dine Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment) and speaks about building relationships internationally and gifts us with his perspectives of Cultural Genocide. He works with Dana Powell on projects to protect land and life. His closing comments remind us how we are all connected. Truely an honor to have him on air with us.
Dailan Long shares his perspectives about the public hearings that were federally mandated and the Alternative Energy Report that resulted from the careful study and participation of many community members. He joined his Grandmothers who are protectors of the land when he found out about the Desert Rock Energy Project. He has collaborated with Dana Powell on writing projects that inform and remind us of Fundamental Law ie: Natural Law. We look forward to hearing more from Dailan and appreciate his work that reveals environmental injustice.

The Quest of Wisjinichu-Nishiyuu, Quest For Unity
Summary:
7 Youth with two guides wish to walk to Ottawa and arrive in... Parliament Hill. This is a strong message to prove to other First Nations across Canada that the Cree Nation of Quebec are not sellouts, but keepers of the Language, Culture, Tradition and more importantly; today, we still carry the sacred laws of our ancestors.
Mission:
This Quest-Journey will establish and unite our historical allies and restore our traditional trade routes with the Algonquin, Mohawk and other First Nations. The time for Unity is now.
Vision:
Through Unity and Harmony, the quest will revive the voices of our “Anskushiyouch”. Their voices will be heard once more. With their guidance and strength, the Truth to all the sacred teachings will be revived and we will become once more, a powerful United Nations across Turtle Island.
The warriors have awaken and will rise:
The Cree people have always been fierce warriors; they have always been the gatekeepers of the North. They have had many battles and disputes over the territory, and to this day we have never surrendered our land to no nation, not now, not ever.
This land, the earth, the rivers, the winds, the mountains, the clouds and all of the creation, we are the true keepers and will continue to do so until time on earth is over. This Quest, it is time the Youth become the Warriors and the leaders for they are the “Anskushshiyouch” as foretold. The Earth Walkers, the beings put here on earth to protect all of Chisamanitou's Creation. In unity, in harmony, in peace, we will achieve.
