Faith was never meant to be hidden.

What is the meaning of life? Let's look at what Jesus has to say about it in Matthew 16:25.

In a recent Big 12 conference game between rivals Oklahoma and Iowa State, the score was tied 3 and 3 near the end of the first half. Now at 4th and goal after moving the ball all the way to the 2-yard line, the Sooners offense brought out their punter and lined up for a field goal attempt.
The team from Iowa State was ready to block the kick and take control, but as the ball was snapped, the punter passed it to Oklahoma’s kicker, who ran the ball in for a touchdown.
You can bet the Monday chatter in the Iowa Cyclone’s locker room including spotting and preparing for trick plays like that fake field goal attempt.
Likewise, our opponent often uses deceit to get us to look away from the truth of who we’re called be in this world, and catches our defense off guard. But when we stay close to God, and become aware of Satan’s tricks and schemes, he’ll stop running those surprise plays altogether.

When Elon Musk recently completed his purchase of the social media platform Twitter, he made the announcement saying, “The bird is freed”. To the joy of some and chagrin of others, he proclaimed his newfound control a move forward for freedom of speech in the metaverse.

•Free speech is not always synonymous with RIGHT speech…
•Right speech from FOLLOWERS of CHRIST will always honor God…
Speak rightly regardless of how you are hemmed in. Even a caged bird can sing a beautiful song.
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
We sometimes hold a little too tightly to the very things we should let go of. We try to control things that are well beyond our ability to control, and find ourselves weary or stressed from the fight At the very least, we become distracted.
That’s why Peter suggests we look to God, and admit He is – and always has been – in control. The more we take command of our own thoughts and actions in ANY situation, the closer we come to trusting God’s plan in EVERY situation.
When it all seems to be out of your control…trust God! He cares for you, and in due time, He’ll lift you up.

Matthew 5:14-16 - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
You don’t have to go very far to encounter darkness in our world. Paul describes our world pretty accurately in his letter to Timothy saying “…in the last days there will be lovers of self, lovers of money, …arrogant and boastful…” people all around us.
But in Jesus’ sermon on the mount, He says that we are the light of the world. That means even in the midst of the darkness and evil around us:
•We’re the ones He put here to shine.
•We’re the ones He sent to light the way home.
•And we do it not for power or position, but to the glory of God.
There’s darkness all around us…so don’t flicker and fade. Let your light shine bright and bring ‘em home one at a time.
We are here to represent!
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Many times in life we’re asked to represent something. To attend a function on behalf of the company we work for, to represent our family at a funeral or wedding, and for a select few, to represent our country in the Olympic games or even an international summit.
In short – when we stand in as a representative of anything – we’re ambassadors.
In his letter to the church in Corinth, Paul is describing his reason for writing, reason for coming to the people of Corinth – and consequently describes OUR actions – in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. And he uses the word, Ambassadors. Someone who acts on behalf of, and with the authority of, those who sent them.
•The truth of the Gospel is ours, but not ONLY ours
•We come on behalf of the King to offer citizenship in the Kingdom
•Are we working our way through life hoping to blend in?
•Or are we speaking into lives and situations with the authority we’ve been given?
What does 'predestined' really mean? Let's take a quick look at Romans 8:30 for the answer.
You'll hear a lot about freedom on a day like today, but let's talk about REAL freedom for a moment...
The question is not only "...what is happening to our world", but "...what is happening to our homes"?
We tend to want to live on emotional mountaintops. But the reality is that not much fruit grows on mountaintops...
God is so good. He can weave all the moments - good and bad - into His plan for the beautiful tapestry of our lives.
Who decided which blossoms are weeds to be plucked from the garden, and which are flowers to be cultivated?
When we hide the truth, we forsake the prayers and strength of Christian brothers and sisters.
In Ephesians 4 Paul urges us to live according to the call we've received. But what is that call? Let's look and read a little further in that chapter.

A brief look at the parallels between the nation of Israel in 700 BC and this very moment in history.
When things are going well in life, one of the things that Christians sometimes will say is, “God is faithful”. You got a new job, you found a great deal on a used car, you got to go on a nice vacation, your kids brought home a great report card, it’s been a good year...God is so faithful. And it’s true. In every one of those situations, God is faithful.
But what about when life is not going well? What about when the train has come off the tracks in your life or you are walking through deep waters of pain and hardship? Is God still faithful then?
Our world today is considerably noisier than the first century. Even though we only see Jesus praying a few times in the Gospel of Mark, throughout the four Gospels we see a consistent pattern of getting alone and praying. If Jesus sought solitude then, how much more important should it be that we withdraw and find solitude today?
No matter how far away you feel or think you are, you are not an outsider. Christ has brought you in.
'but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. '

"Do not fear, " the Angel told her. Can you imagine how many times the young, frightened Mary had to remind herself of those words?
God's principle of reaping and sowing goes far beyond watching a mighty oak tree grow from a tiny acorn.
When we're walking through difficult circumstances or painful trials, one of the questions we might find ourselves asking is: why is this happening to me? Why is God allowing this? It’s not an easy question to answer. But thankfully, God provides us with some helpful perspective through the Scriptures.
At the age of seventeen, Joseph had two dreams that predicted his rise to prominence and authority. By the age of thirty, Joseph became Second in Charge of Egypt.
So what happened during those thirteen years? Joseph’s course weaves through family betrayal, Egyptian enslavement, false accusations and imprisonment, human forgetfulness, and the ultimate revelation of God’s prevailing purpose at Pharoah’s palace.
But why?
What if the very thing you've been putting off because it looks too difficult could be accomplished in days?
Taking a close look at what it means to follow God (and the people he places in leadership) through the lens of Nehemiah 6.
In the process of unfolding, information is revealed and disclosed. God's Word, living and active, reaches into the deepest places of our heart. Wisdom, insight, understanding – they all begin to blossom within and overflow into our daily life, as well as the lives of those around us.
It seems it's human nature to search for forgiveness, and it's amazing how much baggage we carry around with us from our past.
1 John 3:15-16 we find the answer to the question, 'what are you most passionate about?'. And there are only two answers: We either love the world or we love God. We are either pursuing worldliness or we are pursuing godliness. At the very core of it, other than these two things, there is no other option.
The Word of God is alive; a rich store of wisdom and discernment helping us to see, to have focused and clear sight, and as a result, a focused and clear heart and mind!
Ephesians 1:18-19 “having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might”
It's the way of the world to be self-sufficient and independent. God's way, though, is to walk by faith, and faith is dependency. He doesn't always show us the map, He jst says, 'Follow Me'. He is the guide, and we take His directions.
When we feel threatened, afraid or alone - let's remember the Lord God Almighty. He has promised to keep safely in His care "on high". (Read Psalm 91:14)
Imagine learning that you will die tomorrow.
If you knew this, how would you spend your last night on earth? A full year stretched out before you, but you only get today.
This may sound morbid, and even farfetched, but this is exactly the situation Jesus was in in today’s devotional verse from John chapter 13:
"Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him."
In that passage of scripture, we find Jesus on the night before his crucifixion. He knew exactly how he would die, and was well-acquainted with the horrors of Roman execution.
Even knowing this, Jesus spends his last night loving and serving his friends, and washing their feet.
Jesus had some advice about the foundations we build our lives on.
In Matthew 7:24-27 He said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Mistakes are a part of every life. Today we see how they are erased with a simple, "Yes, Lord."
For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true. ~ Ephesians 5:8-9 NLT
“My people have committed two sins:
They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. ~ Jeremiah 2:13
Are we committing similar foolish sins today?
That thing you're stressing over - the job, the kids, the obligations or the person you just can't forgive...does it really matter? Will it matter in a year?
Failure - at some point - is inevitable. But before we hang our heads in resignation, let's take a closer look.
Most of us have - at one point or another - walked away from God. It may be hard to return to Him for fear of His reaction.
The good news is that God promises He will not turn from us ...if we return.
King Solomon wrote, “with the humble is wisdom” (Proverbs 11:2)
Imagine someone humble. They’re often fearless, able to act on convictions, rather than trying to impress. Their decision-making is often sound, unclouded by insecurity or prejudice. They listen and welcome honest differences. Let's talk about getting humble is NOT...
Sometimes in life - for any number of reasons - relationships fail. But there is help. And there is hope. And there is healing.
What’s in your hand? Are you willing to lay it down so God can make it come to life, and work wonders in the world?
In 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul famously told the Corinthian church to, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
When you think about it — that’s quite a thing to say.
Paul’s making both a command and a claim:
1) A command for the Corinthian church to follow (or imitate) him.
2) A claim that he’s following Christ in a way that’s worth imitating.
Imagine for a minute that a man in a black suit steps out of a limousine. Hey says you can have any one thing you want in the world.
You want to live somewhere else? Consider it done.
You want the fastest car on the planet? Not a problem.
You want to see your favorite sports team win a championship? Mission complete.
Our minds race as we think of the one thing we want most.
But wait, there’s a catch… The mystery man says, “But, to have this thing, you must sell everything you have and give it to me.”
If you love me, you will keep my commandments.

Have you ever heard the saying: “Talk is cheap”?
It’s a great way to summarize today’s verse.
Jesus was spending his last night with the disciples before being crucified. They still didn’t fully understand what was happening. But with all his talk about loving one another, he was about to show them what ultimate love looked like on the cross.
It’s easy to forget that God works in this world.

To what - or to whom - do you turn in times of trouble? Where do you find comfort in your fear and relief from anxiety? David spoke often of God as a place of safety and refuge.
More than a great slogan for a t-shirt or poster, when we consider the context in which some of our oft-quoted passages were born in, we would better understand who God is.
I can do all Things? We often misquote or at least misapply that familiar passage in Philippians 4:13, so to get a better understanding, it may be best to back up a few verses and read it all in context.
That thing costing you a good night's sleep...will it really matter in a year? In 5 years?
You are valued. How much are you worth? More. You are worth more to God than anything else He created.

We all know life can sometimes be hard. Where does your strength come from in the difficult moments?
Who can accuse the people God has chosen? No one, because God is the One who makes them right. (Romans 8:33)
Written over the course of 16 centuries by 40 different authors, there is one central theme to the entire Bible.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Proverbs 1:7).
But what does it mean to fear God? Well, mostly it means keeping our thinking straight. It means seeing God, in all his power, in proper relation and proportion to the people and problems in this world.
You've undoubtedly seen the bumper sticker or license plate frame which declares the driver to be "blessed and highly favored". But what does it mean to have God's favor?
Where do we find true unity? Today we visit a passage from Ephesians chapter 2 and discover the answer.
When we trust God, it affects or words, our actions and our emotions.
When that trust becomes the center of who we are, we find peace. Perfect peace.
Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! ~ Ephesians 3:20-21

Peace. Such an elusive thought. And to those who know and cling to God, it's so present, and even more so difficult to explain. Jesus calming the storm is more than just a Bible story...it's a pointer toward what He can (and does) do in our lives.
A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. ~ Proverbs 11:25
Jesus said the greatest among us must be the servant to all. What kind of greatness are you looking for?
For the disciples - and Jesus Himself - the threat of losing their lives was very real. As recorded in Matthew 16, Jesus addressed that reality.
We hear the word, 'Kingdom' in Christian circles, but what is it? Is it here? Is it Heaven? Will we all be together there someday? Listen to the words of Jesus from Matthew 7 as He spoke about the Kingdom.
We can hear instruction all day long. It's when we begin to act upon it that things begin to change.
Is there anything God wouldn't do for us? We're talking about the God who sent His own Son to die a cruel death on our behalf.
Jesus had some simple words with profound meaning to help us in our tendency toward worry. Read along in Matthew 6:34.
Who influenced you as you walked toward the cross and trust in Jesus? How will you share that influence and lead others?
According to God, there's never been a man as wise as Solomon. Fortunately he left us a little something in the form of the book of Proverbs.
If Moses were alive today, who in the church would he look like? The person sitting next to you without a leadership bone in his body? Or maybe even...you?
You ever think about what Heaven's doing right now? You'll find a short, simple answer in Revelation 4.
Well done, good and faithful servant. Words we all long to hear. We look at Jesus' parable of the talents and see the good, the bad, and the other. Look again...you might see yourself!
Why do we go to such lengths to complicate the Gospel? Jesus puts it in simple terms in Luke 5:36-39 as He talks about the new and the old.
Keep asking. Keep seeking. Keep knocking. Listen to these words of Jesus about persistence in prayer.
Our mistakes don’t separate us from everyone else. They actually connect us. Whether we admit them or not, they’re one thing we all share (Romans 3:23). Our mistakes make us human. They also don’t disqualify us from the call to love like Jesus. And the thing is, Jesus knows our mistakes; we can’t hide them from him. And yet he calls us still.
With all that's going on in the world and this country, worry seems easy. But Jesus had something to say about worry. Read the entire passage in Matthew 6:25-34.
What fear keeps you from "...drawing near to God"?

As we wrap a difficult year and stand on the edge of a brand new year, let's consider for a moment the beauty and opportunity these next 12 months hold for us.

Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.

There's a little-shared passage in Exodus 11 which demonstrates the power of God. Check out Exodus 117, then read Exodus 6:1-9 to dig a little deeper.
Mercy is something we all need, and it's promised in a short passage tucked in the middle of the book of Lamentations:
"The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Jesus mentioned a catch when it comes to mercy in Matthew 5:7. Listen along.
Jesus is recorded as saying, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty" in John 6:35
Consider that for a moment. The emptiness we feel will never again feel empty when we fill it with Jesus. He has so much more for us than a quote to share or a gathering on Sunday.
In Romans 8:26-27 Paul reminds us we're not alone when we just don't what - or how - to pray. In today's devotion, we consider the translator speaking on our behalf in those moments.
Gathering to worship is truly a gift. But what about the times you just...don't...want to?

Psalm 104 is more poetic than scientific, but it unfolds the many wonders of the one God who created everything we know.
All throughout the Bible we read about things that were in remembrance. Monuments were erected, observances were held, and the people of God gathered to remember. We sometimes forget how good God is and all He's done for us. When we gather for corporate worship, or even just to fellowship, it gives a good time to remember those things.
In counting the good we do, or examining the good works and deeds of others, we have to remember that the sum of it all is still less than enough. There were good people on the earth when Jesus chose to come and redeem all of mankind. That alone is good enough.
So whether we are doing good or falling short - that's the hope we have. Jesus paid it all. Forever. And as long as we're living and breathing, He's not through with us yet. Let Him work in and through your life.
Jesus has purchased a future for us that is better than anything we can plan or imagine.
"The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons, by swerving from these, have wandered away into vain discussion, desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions." 1 Peter 1:3-5
Think you are in control? Stop breathing. Just do it. It won't be long before your body will insist you draw another breath. And just like we were programmed to take in oxygen and expel carbon dioxide, you wired to live for God.
For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
We didn't just wake up in faith one day. It was a journey. And it's an ongoing process. Today we take a moment to look back at how we arrived at today.
If you could have only one thing in life, what would it be? What do you love most? What would you give up everything for?
In teaching us how we should pray, Jesus taught us to revere God in this way: "Hallowed be Your name...". (Matthew 6:9b)
In the little moments of daily life, we must live for a greater honor than our own.
Today's conversation centers around the opening phrase in "The Lord's Prayer," found in Matthew 6:9-13 ~ Our Father...in Heaven.
God's care for you is secure because it doesn't depend our your faithfulness, but on His.
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. ~ 1 Thess. 5:23-4
To encounter God is to experience His goodness because it's only in Him we are truly satisfied.
For a day in your courts is better
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God
than dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
the Lord bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does he withhold
from those who walk uprightly.

We sometimes see a good thing God is doing and try to lend a helping hand. That's often where the problems begin. Today we consider a lesson at Peter's expense.
Matthew 17:1-7
Ask this of yourself: "Am I strong enough to be weak?"
Paul must have found himself here often. In 2nd Corinthians he wrote, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
It's tough for many of us, but when we come to grips with the fact we need God, we'll more quickly realize this: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
In Psalm 1:1 it says, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”
Though it was written in the Old Testament, we can learn a lot about the Christian walk from this verse.
It's not the next big thing, the new best seller, or even the next seminar that makes us better able to shine. Jesus talks about our identity in Matthew 5:13-16. Here's part of what He said:
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
In 1 Corinthians 10:31 it says, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."
Proclaiming God's glory to the world always begins by taking a look at our own hearts. We can't declare God is above every other name if we're still on the throne of our hearts.
"for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." ~ Philippians 2:13
We are not called to go it alone. Sharing God's heart begins and ends with His grace. That's important for us to understand, because without God's grace, we are working in vain as we seek to build something in our own strength.
It's odd that as believers we can actually long for a place we've never been. Or have we?
In Psalm 84:1-2 we read, "How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God."
