Welcome to the Pleasant View Missionary Church Sermon Podcast, where we seek to bring practical application to our current culture with the never changing principles found in God's word!
We see an intimate moment shared between Jesus and Martha in this passage. Jesus shows compassion as He listens and responds to Martha seeing her faith move from one of grief to one of belief! Where is our faith? Whatever our doubts or questions, Jesus can handle them!
As we continue through the Gospel of John, we take a closer look at what Jesus provides as the Good Shepherd and how we should respond to Him.
As we finish out chapter 9 of John's gospel, we see Jesus looking for the blind man after he had been kicked out of the temple by the Pharisees. Pastor Sean reminds us that we can never out sin God's grace.
The Pharisees continue to question the blind man who now sees them in a new light, literally and figuratively. Pastor Sean challenges us to have share the gospel with those around us who do not believe and gives practical advice and encouragement on how to do just that.
In chapter 9 Jesus answers a question about the sin that led to a man being blind from birth. "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him." What do we do with the question of suffering when we know and trust in the goodness of God? Why doesn't He always heal? Sean walks through this passage with personal insights that lead to Biblical truth.
As we finish chapter 8 in John's gospel, Jesus makes the claim that He is God very clear with His comment in v. 58, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am."
Jesus continues to confront the Jewish leaders with the truth of who He is as we continue in John 8:31-47. He makes it clear that being good will never be enough without faith, which they lack! We are encouraged to respond in three ways. 1. Examine our faith: have we confessed our faith in Jesus and been set free from the bondage of sin? 2. Share the Gospel: we need to not only share the gospel with those who don't believe but with other believers to strengthen our faith in Him. 3. Stay faithful: Acts 2:42 gives us the best prescription to remain in Christ. "And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
We are in week 30 of our deep dive through the Gospel of John. Jesus continues to make bold claims about who He is.
Pastor Sean continues through the Gospel of John looking at the familiar account of Jesus' encounter with the woman caught in adultery.
As we continue through John's gospel, Jesus boldly announces that "If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink." His invitation is for all, yet all do not come. Do we realize our need for Jesus in light of our sinfulness? Are you thirsty? Only Jesus offers living water that completely satisfies!
As we continue through John's gospel, we see Jesus confront a culture that was built around God but did not know Him. How different are we today? Do we do the church thing but miss on the most important aspect of it all, Jesus?
This week as we look at John 7:14-24, we see Jesus' command of God's word. As we grow in our faith, there is nothing that can replace time in the Bible to grow to be more like Jesus. We will become transformed by what influences us the most.... If we aren't spending time in the Bible, we will not have a biblical worldview. How often do we read the Word?
When we radically submit to the Word of God, we submit to our elders, we honestly evaluate ourselves, and we become vulnerable enough to be challenged.
As we continue through 1 Peter, Pastor Sean takes a look at the reward for following Jesus, the reality of Hell and how that should motivate us to share the Gospel.
Peter reminds us that our witness to the world around us begins with our relationships within our Gospel community. "Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8
In 1st Peter 4:1-6, we are reminded to prepare our minds to be like Jesus. Pastor Sean breaks down what that means practically for us.
Pastor Sean looks at a difficult passage and reminds us that in the words of Allistair Begg, "The main things are the plain things, and the plain things are the main things."
Pastor Sean looks at Peter's rhetorical question to begin this passage, "Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?" and examines how the answer helps us always be prepared to make a defense for the hope we have in Jesus...Bottom line...be prepared!
Pastor Sean helps us understand the importance and responsibility we have towards others as believers. 1 Peter 3:9 "Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing."
This week Pastor Sean focuses in on Chapter 3 verse 7. Peter is addressing men specifically, but the Biblical principles are beneficial for all of us!
