Tyler Hamilton is a former American professional cyclist who had stints on U.S. Postal, Team CSC and Phonak during his career. Tyler rode with Lance Armstrong while at U.S. Postal and helped Lance win 3 Tours de France. Hamilton would achieve some stellar results himself winning Liege Bastogne Liege in 2003 and the Olympic Time Trail in 2004. His best results in a Grand Tour were 4th overall in the 2003 Tour de France and 2nd overall in the 2002 Giro d' Italia. Hamilton has since been stripped of some of his results as a consequence of his admission to using performance enhancing drugs during his career.
In our conversation we chat about many different things, including Tyler's introduction to cycling and the ups and downs of his career. We also discuss what his transition from the sport looked like and what he is currently doing with his time.

Kyle King is a former distance runner at the University of North Texas and Baylor University (Waco, TX). Post collegiately Kyle went on to run for the Zap Fitness and made the choice to pursue running professionally. Kyle ultimately qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials and gives a cool recap of that experience in the interview. We take our conversation all the way to what Kyle is currently up to and how running helped forge a path for him to be successful after his professional running career was over.

Worry is a form of fear, and all forms of fear produce fatigue. A man who has learnt not to feel fear will find the fatigue of daily life greatly diminished.
The proper course with every kind of fear is to think about it rationally and calmly, but with great concentration, until it becomes completely familiar. In the end familiarity will bunt its terrors; the whole subject will become boring and our thoughts will turn away from it, not as formerly, by an effort of will, but through mere lack of interest in the topic.

Chad Haga is a professional road cyclist who rides for Team Sunweb (a UCI World Tour Team). Haga’s journey with competitive cycling began at Texas A and M university where he rode for the collegiate team while earning his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Chad got a late start in cycling from the traditional sense but found his way into the professional peloton eventually, landing a ride with Kelly Benefit Strategies/Omtum Health in 2011. Continued success while on a Pro Continental Team eventually got him to the highest level of Cycling when he inked a contract with Giant-Shimano in 2014 (now currently known as Team Sunweb his current team). In this interview we cover quite a range of topics from Chad’s college days to his love for playing the piano. We also discuss what it’s like being on of the main helpers for one of the best riders in the world.

How is it that success is truly acheived and replicated? According to our culture you catch the "big break" and then your ship sets sail. Many of us are still waiting in the harbor for that big break however. Even worse, many of us sit in the harbor and do nothing, banking on that big break to get us motivated to do something. In this episode wediscuss the principle of paying small ball in order to achieve success and get ourselves to a level where we can perform at a high level with consistency.

In this podcast episode I break down a quote from Epictetus in his book Discourses. The quote explains a critical principle if we are to perform at a high level given the fact that situations and circumstances are ever changing.
Here is the quote: ‘Tell me what to write whenever I’m presented with a name.’ If I say ‘John’ and then someone else comes along and gives him ‘Jane’ instead of ‘John’ to write, what is going to happen? How is he going to write it? If you have learned your letters, though, you are ready for anything anyone dictates. If you are not prepared, I don’t know what I should tell you to do. Because there may be events that call for you to act differently – and what will you do or say then? So hold on to this general principle and you won’t need specific advice."

In this episode I walk us through some of the major points Mattheus Guerra makes in his book "The Power of Consistency". The episode is short because Guerra believes there is not a lot to keep in mind when gunning for success. As I have stated before "the theory of success is easy, but the application of that theory is the challenge".

This is the first eisode in a series I am doing over John Wooden's Pyramid of Success. John Wooden is considered one of the most successful coaches ever with a winning percentage over 80% in 40 seasons of coaching and 10 total NCAA national titles in basketball (of which 7 were consecutive). Woden created this pyramid to give us his insight into what he believed were some of the principles (which he calls blocks and mortar) that lead to success. This first episode goes over one of the cornerstones of the pyramid: industriousness.

When you sit down with successful folks there is a whole other story beneath their success that doesn't make the headlines or get talked about much. "If you only knew" what it took.

Stop searching for the "key" to your being successful. You don't need something else, but rather you need to make better use of what you currently have.

This podcast looks further at the very real truth that we all face during competitions...decision fatigue.
