I’m over the 50/50 conversations.

Cause who’s really talking splitting money with a guy who can’t even locate himself?

I’m talking vibe change.

You ask.

He acts like nothings changed.

Why isn’t there more of: “look I’m processing something— we are still good but give me a minute.”

Instead of acting different and making me feel like I’m tripping.

If we say “at this big age” we are going to be open, honest and transparent… then there is a moment where vulnerability will help us “win the relationship” but you choose otherwise and expect me to “pull the emotions” out of you… we will lose the relationship every time. Why am I always put in a position where I have to think “am I tripping or did the energy shift?” — and it’s never the man with enough integrity to explain what’s going on with him or why the energy shifted.

I can’t figure out my emotions and yours sir.

So, is it really about the 50/50?

Relationships, Statistics, and Self-Exploration: Unveiling Truths about Dating (each other) for Black Men and Women. An argument as to why we should give the bus driver a chance.

In this thought-provoking podcast episode hosted by Reka Robinson, she engages in a candid conversation with J. "I am intentional about not losing myself in my marriage." - Meg

"We have to stop internalizing people’s fruit inspection of us. - Tiyahri

In this podcast episode, my guest is Dr. Tiyahri Wilson and we explore the topic of preference when it comes to dating, specifically for Black women. We start off by discussing whether Eboni K. Williams is allowed to have her own preference and if Black women are allowed to be vocal about theirs. We also touch on Eboni's comment, "If he owns the bus," and whether men were too sensitive about her preference.

Dr. Tiyahri shares a quote that encourages people to stop internalizing others' opinions of them. Myself and Tiyahri also reveal whether WE would date a bus driver and while our preference isn't exactly aligned with Eboni's, we do express our support for her answer, her reasoning and more. Then we move on to the rebuttal made by Dr. Iyanla Vanzant about the criteria used to measure men being off, which sparks a conversation about the cultural push for marriage and motherhood and how it may maintain patriarchal control and dominance.

Dr. Iyanla Vanzant said: "The standards and the criteria we use to measure men are off, for who we are as women and who they are in this society.”

The conversation then turns to the difference between "finding love" or "falling in love" versus "choosing love." This episodes ends with us discussing the idea that as long as the competition is "I'm not gonna let you out love me," the marriage will work. Overall, the episode provides thought-provoking insights on preference, love, and the societal norms that surround relationships.

In this episode of the podcast hosted by (Me) Reka Robinson with guest (life coach) Bryan Thomas, Bryan talks about his divorce and the lessons he learned from it. He explains why he was with her for a few years but only married for months and that when love is given with the intent to change instead of cover, problems arise. We discuss the concept "Love is meant to cover and not change, according to God." (1 Peter 4:8)

We also discuss the concept of loving blindly and how it can lead to problems. Bryan stresses the importance of finding someone who matches our values and needs. He also discusses his decision to remain single until he finds someone who matches his discipline. Bryan believes that we should stop giving potential partners the benefit of the doubt. They also talk about what marriage taught Bryan about women and himself. Finally, they delve into the difference between falling in love and choosing love.

The thing that I’m asking you, is that when I make mistakes, will you hold my hand and say “I got you” as I’m elevating or are you going to push me to the side because maybe what you signed up for didn’t included the capacity to be able to handle the downside to the evolution that I’m bringing.

"Share what you want him to know and then allow him to ask the questions that go along with that." - Dr. Tiyahri Wilson. Find her here.

In this episode of the podcast hosted by (myself) Reka and mental health therapist Tiyahri, we dive deep into the societal pressure on women to measure their worth by marriage and kids (The Ashanti of it All). We discuss the harmful comments that are often directed towards unmarried women in their 40s and question why finding true love is not taught as an uncertain reality of life. We emphasize the importance of not measuring one's value by marriage and instead being careful about the way we perceive and understand this beautiful institution (around 14:46). Then of course we analyze MAFS (Married at First Sight. Season 16) couples, such as Jasmine and Airris, to understand what emotional unavailability looks like and whether the therapists on the show are ethical (around 25:50). Here is where Tiyahri defines "emotional unavailable" and we give tangible examples.

The podcast hosts also take a closer look at Kirsten and Shaq (around 44:45), discussing what it means to be extremely guarded and questioning why someone so shut down would go on a show like MAFS. They explore what "doing the work" looks like for someone who is guarded and provide advice on how to open up in a relationship. Additionally, the hosts discuss Dominique and Mackinley and analyze the way Dominique mishandled the situation (around 55:43). They question whether 25 is too young for marriage and discuss the importance of being honest about what one wants in a relationship. For those of you who are just finding me and you haven't been able to hear my full story yet. Well here it is, I did this speech in 2019 at a conference called; Inspired. It was a woman empowerment event and I asked the audience full of women, who's your mirror? Society? Men? Your kids? Your parents? I challenge you to make YOU your only mirror..

The Reka I was was in 2017 and before: my issue was thinking that how men saw me (mirror) was correct. You see I thought, I couldn’t see myself and only other people could see how I was coming off. God forbid I come off as a cheater and I wasn’t.... or a 'bad' girlfriend and I wasn't. I was looking in the wrong mirror. Instead of questioning ‘why do they always think I’m in the wrong’ (projection) I always blamed me.. for them not being happy or cheating. Unfortunately, I was a target for insecure men and didn't know it. I had no idea what I was doing in these dating streets. So passed up a lot of red flags (when you know better you do better) and dating insecure men is the opposite of guarding your heart. Insecure men will do 1 of 2 things; abuse you or leave you.

Listen... we get so bitter and upset about being treated poorly and we don’t realize once we stop fumbling our boundaries being treated poorly significantly minimizes.

So really what’s on the other side of doing the work?

  1. Knowing exactly who you are
  2. Showing up as you in every room
  3. Having the audacity to believe you can get what you want. Which equals you being able to walk away from a man who isn’t right for you. The first time you feel that.

I know this lane of relationships has caused you a lot of frustration and pain.

And right now you’re at your wits-end and have promised yourself that you will never again allow a man to disrespect you, mishandle you –nor will you give your heart that fast. You’ve professed that 2022 is the year of you in the name of ‘self love’.

Could your view of love/relationships be underdeveloped, over fantasized, over spiritualized and toxic??

God is not going to gift you, show you, provide you a man just cause you prayed for him. It's like the woman with the issue of blood. She wanted to be healed so she did the work of finding Jesus and knowing all she had to do was touch the hem of his garment and she would be healed. There is work you have to do amongst having faith. It's "both and".... have faith but faith without works is dead... so what work on your doing on yourself to get the man you pray for? Where is your wise council, what books are you reading and what is it about you that got into a relationship you had no business being in? We can not be trying to make a Future into a Russell. We have to start with a Russell as the foundation. Men, people are who they are not who you want or pray them to be.

When I asked this question on Facebook a woman left me a comment saying "well my motto is don't date and you'll never be hurt" ... I cringe at that motto. I also have empathy because I know it's coming from a place of pain.

For those that still desire a husband (my clients) - for me, it’s beyond the bitterness and the pain men left behind for me to crawl out of. Now, I’m looking more and more at my fruit and how my learnings are executing in my life. I moved past just being inspired.

Sis. The moment I realized that confidence had to show up in my actions. Everything with men changed for me.

We collectively HAVE got to stop running around trying to BE in a relationship. So blindly and violently failing at being single and then in relationships.

What does that even mean? Doesn’t everyone die alone? Kids and/or a husband are not a guarantee you’ll be taken care of in your older years. So why are you only scared of ‘dying alone’ because you’re single?

You have all these feelings about being a failure and that’s the reason why you want a man? You have got to think differently about your singleness so you can move different.

I want a co-committed relationship. Not co-dependency based on trauma bonds.

I don’t want a relationship with someone who chooses me purely based on their feelings instead of logic and practicality. I want an easy life and will not endure hardship or inconvenience just because I love you.

I want love without a trauma bond or unhealthy attachment, I want to love a man knowing joy comes from God and myself.

You want a man to treat you with respect, be loyal and show you love. You need to be seen/heard and valued. What you’ve tired to that is following advice that says; don’t tell him how to treat you. 'I don’t want to go through another stage in my life where I’m telling someone how they should treat me.’

How sway? That’s passive aggressive. Is that how we are with your family and friends? How well is that working out for you?

The mind of a woman who is asking this question is sitting somewhere thinking that she is bad (a failure) because she doesn’t have a man. You want to be called the good woman behind the man, no matter what.

You not having a man doesn’t mean you’re intrinsically bad or a failure. I wish you would stop seeing single as a punishment, or that it's a waiting period for something greater than the life you have now.

You just are. You’re just being and the sooner you see the blessing in singleness the sooner your joy will arise.

When you’re confident in your singleness that’s how you will think. And trust I know what it is like to be a ‘good woman’ -- to believe I am-- to hear that all the time and yet and still I have zero man. Up until 2017 that use to bother me and made me lower my standards, trying to prove ‘see I’m a good woman’ -- now I am a good woman period and my actions shows that I believe it. Yes sometimes I still have those thoughts but now that I’ve gone on a true self love journey I stop myself well before I play out that tired 'ride-or-die' narrative.

I’m so nervous to have this conversation. I’m preparing to ignore the religious/judgmental comments I will get. From “False prophet” to “that’s why I don’t believe.” So let me be clear, that’s what's wrong with religion and society. We’re not allowed to ask questions or have conversations without judgement. Especially when it comes to sex. So if you are super religious then this episode is not for you.

This is not for atheists who want to judge my beliefs. Jesus is my homeboy and I don’t have a problem with my belief in him, I have a problem with religion and the messages I believe women receive around sex that has brought on so much shame. Jesus had a problem with religion which is why he was flipping tables in the Bible.

So this is only for people with open ears and those who want to hear with open ears about women trying to heal from sexual shame. I started my journey 3-4 years ago. I started reading, praying, reading and praying some more about where I stood.

Let’s be clear again; I’m abstinent and I promised myself that in my season of abstinence I would use it to heal and truly seek God, so I could hear from God. Not Society and certainly not religion. The shame I used to have, let's say it was about 100lbs and now I’ve got about 25lbs left. This conversation is about my healing way more than it is about yelling at purity culture.

This conversation is for my clients and the women, Christian women who feel so judged and trapped in shame around sex.

This conversation is because the church seems to be embarrassed about having real conversations about sex. The only thing we’re told is wait until you’re married. There is no room for; “it’s going to be hard” “Your body will betray you” “why you should wait” let alone “how to wait.”

My goal is to answer my questions, many of the same questions you may have as a Christian woman who grew up in church but also my goal is to encourage you to study the bible for yourself don’t listen and act according to me. I’m just trying to heal and talking about my ish for the last 3-4 years has helped me tremendously.

So in all my nervousness let’s talk. I hope it frees at least one woman.

WHY does a man not have to lie to YOU to be with YOU? Because if you like him enough, you'll lie to yourself and HOW to stop that cycle of dysfunction.

But the gag is: he is lying to you through his behavior. You just pass up the red flag because you like him.

So what am I saying? Men don't have to say:

Baby, I'll never lie to you, I'll never cheat on you, I'm not a manipulator or a narcissist. I'm just a good guy who loves you.

He knows he's all of the above and has been the above to his previous girlfriends.

  • There is no yelp review for men.
  • We're bad at being a lie detector because most of the time, we'll never find out.
  • He's lying without a tangible fact AND raise your hand if you feel like you need facts to write him off

BUT We have our God voice and today: I'm going to encourage you to lean into that because I want to help you stop this cycle of dysfunctional relationships.

What exactly is Narcissism? What are the traits?

Well I remember a time that I got rid of a Michael Kors purse and some Jordans because the abusive ex wanted me to 'prove my love' for him. Narcissist? How he made me feel bad about having my parents and growing up in a two parent household. Narcissist? Let's talk.... with a therapist, Nicole Morris who has a Masters in Social work (MSW) and she's been in the field for 13 years. This is a conversation I had with her at the end of 2019. I was a baby-baby coach, I can see how much I've grown, even in how I explain things from then to now. However this episode has the definition of narcism, stories of what I did for my abusive ex and more, that you can learn from. Oh and after today, I'm going back to dropping episodes just on Thursdays.

I intend to help you see that you have authority over your life. No one gives us a manual when we are born. No one gives us a book of instructions for our birthday. Which is weird because don't you have an instruction manual for your TV, your car, and everything else that you do not know how to use at first.

We're born, for the first time and we're just expected to be great at being human. We're given a name and expected to know how to operate as such.

How are we supposed to know how to operate? How are we supposed to know how our mind works? How are we supposed to know how our body works?

We do learn from others but the problem is most of us are learning from others that never took the time to learn themselves. For the most part they probably never knew you could learn "yourself", so, it's not their fault.

Psychology 101 should be taught to us. We should have mandatory 'learn-how-to-be-a-human' classes starting at age 2. Like drivers-ed but human-ed. I'm not an expert at anything but I did start getting curious about life… my life. Which lead me to ask questions like:

Why do we do the things we do? Why do we NOT do the things we want to do? That researching is paying off for me and I thought: what if I could help other women create their manual for their life?

What is love? Cause girl him saying ‘I love you’ doesn’t mean he actually does. While I do believe Harry and Meghan are a perfect example of being a team... ‘You two against the world — not against each other'... this episode is less about them and more about what the Bible/God defines as love.

Sick of being played? Shanice explains how she got ghosted after she drove 2 hours to meet up with a guy who never showed.

Through her story she shares 4 tips on how to better gage if a man is playing you or not.

(1) Stop giving men the benefit of the doubt.

(2) Those stupid rules you make for you not to come off as “annoying” to a man —stop with the rules.

(3) Ask all the questions. Being afraid to ask the questions puts you in situations you didn’t ask for.

(4) Listen to your gut. Stop looking for ‘evidence.’

When you want to be a doctor or a lawyer you know you have to go to school for that. You know exactly where to go but where do you go if you want to be in love? Where are we learning what love is? How are we learning to have healthy relationships?

Also you can't say you know your worth and continue to be treated like crap. You are your behavior and your behavior is showing that you allow the revolving door of dysfunctional relationships. Your behavior is showing you- you tie your identity to men and he's your world, not you. What are you getting out of that?

Dig, isolate, ache from being lonely, GLOW.

Like many late 20-somethings I've had my share of failed relationships, the most prominent being an 8 year live-in one. "Common law married". I'm not gonna spend so much time on the particulars, but we weren't meant to be. For 6 months I spiraled and acted out every annoying and "smh" worthy moment that almost every woman has after a heavy breakup. Lately, I've seen it replayed in SO many young women, so I felt the need to write this post in hopes that if you do need it, it'll find you.

When the relationship ended, there was definitely a point in time where I felt that I might possibly die lol. I was 25 so of course that didn't take much, but in my defense, 8 years is a very serious commitment. Real marriage was an actual goal at the time, and after so much time of living together all we were missing was the wedding and the paper work. At first I made the mistakes that I see other women make every single day and I cringe from the memory. I cried, I prayed, I tried to "make myself whole" in hopes that he would see what a "good woman" I was. Constantly trying to prove my worth, thinking I was growing when really I just wanted him to see. I tried to mimic the women's patterns that I thought he desired and felt further and further away from myself. I was lost. My entire identity was wrapped up in who "we" had been and I missed it so much that I didn't even stop to realize that there was no possible way that there was ever a "we". There was hardly even a "me".

She writes: I met a guy last weekend and we slept together. He hasn't text me back until now. We had a good time, he kissed me (first) and it was in front of someone who's flirting with him while I was beside him. I just felt over the moon because no one has ever done that for me. But I realized he never asked me any questions about me. So it got me thinking... does he want to know about me or did he just want a one night stand. I didn't want to be his one night stand, my intention was to date. I don't have to be in a rush for commitment but I like the guy. I don't have any expectations but I still want to keep an open mind for whatever could potentially happen. Should I text him again. Uuugh I'm frustrated because I don't know what to say and what to do? I felt bad for easily sleeping with him.

Me: It's so easy to get excited when a man 'picks' us but we have to slow down our feelings. "feeling over the moon" doesn't mean he's the guy for you/us. We have to slow that down. Unfortunately he sounds like a guy who just wants to have you around when he has time. He'll string you along and give you just enough to keep you "interested." Don't ever let a man save you for later. One thing I know for sure after truly understanding that Singleness Is Not A Punishment is that there will be NO confusing when you come across a man that is 100% interested in you/no games.

Plus. The ol' "do I give him my passwords because he asked" dilemma. I use to think why. not "I have nothing to hide." In fact I did and it never changed his trust in me. He still accused me of being sneaking and cheating. What I've found out is that most people who are accusing you of things heavy, it's because their doing it. I found out later he was cheating and that was my introduction into perfection and understanding what it means.

My name is Jeffrey Whittingham – I am a former Temple University football standout with a burning passion to help others succeed. Being born and raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey, socio-economic hardships and environmental woes made it difficult to remain optimistic about a brighter future. I did not allow those difficulties to deter me from accomplishing my goals. In 2014, I became the first person from my immediate family to graduate from college. Since then, I have been relentlessly pursuing my goals, while at the same time, setting a positive example for the young men and women in my community. The combination of my past experiences, present skills, leadership qualities and intellect, make me uniquely qualified to help mold the youth of our community to grow to their full potential.

Growing up, it was difficult for me to see past my immediate circumstances. Fortunately, football provided me with the optimism I needed to see beyond my present circumstances and elevate to the next level. My motivation to excel in football stemmed from my desire to prove to others in my community that it is possible to excel, despite growing up in an economically depressed area with little to no positive role models. Atlanta, GA (October 2020) - D’wayna Irvin, affectionately known as “D. Irvin”, is a woman who certainly lives up to her moniker. A product of New Orleans’ 9th Ward, the polarizing entrepreneur, influencer and author has experienced it all – from crime, fast money and near-death experiences, to betrayal and heartbreak – all in the name of love and loyalty. However, that way of life nearly destroyed hers, until she made a change for the better. Now, she shares her rollercoaster story of tragedy to triumph in her raw and uncut new book, When A D.A.B. Spills the Tea.

What is a D.A.B, you ask? It is an acronym for the kind of woman often celebrated in rap songs. A woman who, against her better judgment, stays loyal and handles the dirty work for her significant other who usually ends up behind bars. It is the woman who sticks by a man’s side through good, bad and worse, jeopardizing her own future in the process.

Yet, unlike in the movies, that loyalty typically doesn’t pan out the way many women imagine.

“Love is a dangerous game, especially when living the street life," said D. Irvin. “One of the biggest lessons I learned is to always put yourself first, because that is what others will do. You may be second to them, but you will never be first.”

D. Irvin Came to this realization after finding herself entrenched in a long romantic relationship with a drug dealer. Like many young women in urban environments, she was mesmerized by the nice cars, clothes and money the lifestyle afforded. Also, this particular man was charming and manipulative. She risked her life for him, delivered packages for him, stayed loyal as he served time for nearly a decade – only for him to betray her. It was the darkest moment of her life.

Suffering from anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts, D. Irvin had to rebound. She sought therapy to address her mental health, discovered her self-worth, and ultimately used the hustle she learned from the streets to chart her own course as a successful entrepreneur. Now, her goal is to show other women from similar situations how to do the same.

When A D.A.B. Spills the Tea is about revealing the truth about life and love for a woman in the street life. Rarely are there happy endings with money, marriage and a family. Therefore, the book emboldens women to claim their power, set the standards for their own lives and to become real bosses by understanding how to make things happen for themselves.

D. Irvin is bold and transparent in the book, revealing things most people might be ashamed of, however, she is a firm believer that one must come to grips with their past in order to move forward. Learn from her story! One of the things that helped me heal from the pain I inflicted on myself by being with my abusive ex, was finding and learning from women who had been through what I went through. I loved feeling like I wasn't the only woman who made 'stupid' decisions for a man. I also was able to learn from those women.

I became single after a 5 year relationship ended in January 2020. What I once thought would end in married ended in a breakup.

The breakup was needed in order for me to save myself. Not because of physical reasons but to save my mind, protect my peace, confidence and self esteem.

There's nothing like being in a relationship that looks like love to later realize it's narcissistic control. No one thrives in this kind of relationships and it quickly becomes toxic.

The sad part is we are the ones that allow it! Yep girlfriend it's on you. We stay because we feel like things will change, get better, we pamper them and their feelings sometimes ignoring our own.

I can't remember a time, like since I was six years old, where I didn't have a crush on somebody or wasn't thinking about boys.⁣

Being single is difficult for me because I have to think about things other than a relationship.

The thing that I most wanted in life was always a relationship. That was the number one thing for me ...that completed my life.⁣

⁣I didn’t know then I would create Single You but 𝙄 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣, 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝. I knew that sharing my story and pushing aside shame, was the formula. ⁣

Her: I date the same type of men because, like you said before, it's like I'm happy that they chose me. So it's like, 'Oh, you chose me. Okay, I'm going to sacrifice what I know I don't want to sacrifice just because you chose me.⁣

Dude they made me cry!! Getting “flowers” for the gift my Grandmothers, parents and God gave me weird. I’m supposed to be doing this but I really really really do appreciate the love— especially the day (doing mornings) before my last day on Power 99.1

I didn't have a strong relationship with God until I hit about 34. I always believed in God and grew up in the church but (for me) because I didn't seek a true relationship with God. Because I didn't question the things I was told and not told, I began to rush and try to get into relationships. Which sadly set me up for failure. I was so naive and I thought that when a guy told me he loved me, he meant it. 

Relationships don't have a "user manual" or do they? 

Why did I stay? Why did I allow a man to treat me this way and what did I learn from it? Let's talk...

👉🏽 Hey Reka, I have a question or thought that’s been on my mind, I find myself asking often, what’s worth it? So in relationships now days we have a list of red flags, which is a good tool, I feel like these times we are quick to tell people to leave relationships, to see the red flags and walk away. ⁣

Which I understand completely but we also see a lot of comments about “people don’t stay and work it out anymore” ...so where’s the line between making a relationship last for years and working thru differences and humanly character “flaws” mistakes etc.

⁣What's the difference in ...see a red flag and don’t waste your time, you deserve better mentality or work thru it. How do you know what to walk away from and what to use as growth in your relationship. When do you stay ---instead of walking away? I feel like the advice to “leave” is so quick these days, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

I intend to help you see that you have authority over your life.

No one gives us a manual when we are born. No one gives us a book of instructions for our birthday. Which is weird because don't you have an instruction manual for your TV, your car, and everything else that you do not know how to use at first.

We're born, for the first time and we're just expected to be great at being human. We're given a name and expected to know how to operate as such.

How are we supposed to know how to operate?

How are we supposed to know how our mind works?

How are we supposed to know how our body works?

We do learn from others but the problem is most of us are learning from others that never took the time to learn themselves. For the most part they probably never knew you could learn "yourself", so, it's not their fault.

Psychology 101 should be taught to us. We should have mandatory 'learn-how-to-be-a-human' classes starting at age 2.

Like drivers-ed but human-ed. I'm not an expert at anything but I did start getting curious about life… my life. Which lead me to ask questions like:

Why do we do the things we do?

Why do we NOT do the things we want to do?

That researching is paying off for me and I thought: what if I could help other women create their manual for their life?
