The Boxing Show is back as guest host Dec Taylor joins the usual duo of Barry Jones and Andy Clarke to review the weekend's Riyadh Season supercard headlined by Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov in Los Angeles, USA.
The trio breakdown Crawford's debut performance at super-welterweight, Jared Anderson's stoppage loss to Martin Bakole, Andy Ruiz Jr's lacklustre return against Jarrell Miller and Isaac Cruz's shock defeat to Jose Valenzuela.
They conclude by assessing Team GB's performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics and ponder whether boxing will be present at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
All that and more on this week's edition of the award-winning Combat Sports Podcast 'The Boxing Show'...
A look ahead to Saturday's blockbuster card headlined by Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov with Rob Tebbutt and Andy Clarke.

'The Boxing Show' is a podcast By Boxing News
THIS week, Matt Christie announced he was leaving Boxing News which left some of you wondering what was to become of The Opening Bell. Matt and Alex Steedman - aka Steedo - explain all.
There’s plenty of time to look back on the stunning display from Ryan Garcia as he dropped Devin Haney three times to win on the cards. Even by boxing’s barmy standards, this is some story.
In This Week we relive the moment when Lennox Lewis switched off and Hasim Rahman became one of the unlikeliest heavyweight champions in history.
As of next week, you won’t be able to find us in the usual place, but you will find us here: https://linktr.ee/TheOpeningBellPodcast
So any reviews and ratings, please leave them in our new home. Many, many thanks!
IT’S fight week in Brooklyn, New York. But something doesn’t feel quite right about it. Ryan Garcia, after months of madness on social media, is heading into the ring with Devin Haney, a fighter widely regarded as one of the best on the planet. What could possibly go wrong?
The exceptionally matched ‘5 v 5’ concept is discussed in detail as Team Hearn and Team Warren reveal their starting line-ups for the June 1 Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undercard.
Zelfa Barrett got the job done against Jordan Gill, showing flashes of brilliance along the way, yet there’s still a sense he has higher gears to find.
Finally, in This Week, we go back to 1984 and a Milton McCrory masterclass that is frankly impossible not to compare to the very best of Thomas Hearns.
If you’d read this far, and I doubt anyone on planet earth has, leave a review stating you have done so and we’ll read it out on the next show.
DID Richardson Hitchins get lucky in Las Vegas last week? Certainly, one judge turned in a score that was unfathomable which again begs the question: What was the judge watching?
In turn, one is left to ponder the various vantage points when watching a fight. Whether from the ring apron, amongst the crowd or at home on TV.
We pay tribute to John Westgarth, look ahead to a quality main event in Manchester between Jordan Gill and Zelfa Barrett and - in This Week - look back on the outlandish power of Julian Jackson.
Leave us a review and spread the good word of The Opening Bell.
BOXING fans were handed a treat far better than any chocolate egg or succulent portion of roast lamb on Easter Sunday when Frazer Clarke and Fabio Wardley turned in a heavyweight humdinger of the ages.
Quite how long it will take the two boxers to recover, after such heroic efforts, is another matter. We examine the fight in detail, ponder how on earth they did it, while looking ahead to the inevitable rematch.
In This Week, we go back to 2009 and one of the last fights of Edwin Valero’s life while reflecting on his legacy, death and, of course, what might have been.
Please send us your comments in a review. Subscribe and spread the word. Your support is so important to us.
WE react to news that Conor Benn’s provisional suspension might be reimposed following the successful BBBoC and UKAD appeal, discuss Dalton Smith’s impressive demolition of Jose Zepeda and attempt to work out what will happen when Frazer Clarke challenges Fabio Wardley.
There’s also a sighting of new British champion Ashley Lane in Nando’s to discuss and a bombastic showing from Earnie Shavers, in 1979, to remember.
(Pleaaase) Rate, review, engage, subscribe (if you have the time!)
BARELY 12 hours had passed from his rousing draw with Brad Pauls in Birmingham when British middleweight champion Nathan Heaney rocked up at the annual BBBoC Awards in London.
We pay tribute to both boxers for their recent classic while reviewing a heartwarming event in the capital. It all provided a timely reminder about the incomparable beauty of a well-matched domestic title fight and the difference some old fashioned respect makes.
We look ahead to Dalton Smith’s supposed acid test against Jose Zepeda and, in This Week, journey back to 2006 for one of the greatest fights you may not have seen.
Thanks for all the support. We need those likes and reviews and follows!
AFTER Anthony Joshua blasted out a woefully overmatched Francis Ngannou in two rounds, the big question is: Will that put an end to crossover boxing?
Whether it does or not, it seems we’ve still got to endure Mike Tyson trying to negotiate a 31-year disadvantage against Jake Paul. In comparison to all of that, Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia looks like the fight of the century.
In This Week, we uncover a genuinely competitive fight as we go back to 1989 and Evander Holyfield vs Micheal Dokes.
THIS weekend Anthony Joshua - arguably the most accomplished heavyweight of his era - takes on one-fight novice Francis Ngannou. A mismatch on paper but, according to plenty of seasoned observers, it’s a fight loaded with jeopardy for AJ.
The undercard in Saudi Arabia is a cracker, featuring Zhilei Zhang-Joseph Parker, Rey Vargas-Nick Ball and more. As well as examining that card in detail, we look back on the heroics of Ray Ford and the concerning behaviour of Ryan Garcia.
In another week an interview with Jeff Fenech, who explains why ‘banging five girls a day’ wasn’t ideal preparation for Azumah Nelson, might have been the hook. But This Week, it’s merely the icing on the cake.
Please rate, review, subscribe, tell your pals, spread the word, keep listening. We’re very grateful for your attention, as always.
IN a week dominated by endless speculation about who Canelo Alvarez will fight next, we talk to a world champion with a real story to tell.
Paul Spadafora started life being forced to deal with child abuse, alcohol abuse, drug addiction and death in the family. He survived being shot as a teenager and went on to become one of the best boxers of his era. But success would only lead to even more trouble.
We also hear about his time as world champion, toying with Floyd Mayweather in sparring, going to prison after shooting his girlfriend, his road to redemption and his daily battle with addiction. Now a dedicated trainer, Spadafora’s story is like no other.
Please rate, review, subscribe and tell everyone about The Opening Bell.
THE long overdue return between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall was formally announced this week at not one but two press conferences. We explore the psychological battle that is already well under way - and the notion of hatred being used to sell a fight.
We look ahead to a busy, but not particularly headline-grabbing weekend, explore some enticing domestic clashes on the calendar and reiterate the importance of well-matched fights following an upswing in quality at small hall level.
There’s a treat in This Week as we go back to 1987 and the night Lloyd Honeyghan rocketed at, and through, Johnny Bumphus.

IN the latest Opening Bell, both Alex Steedman and Matt Christie find it hard not to be impressed by Hamza Sheeraz's stunning blitzing of Liam Williams last weekend. However, there are notes of caution about getting too carried away.
The importance of the British title is up for discussion, so too that moral dilemma surrounding the Saudi Arabia takeover.
In This Week, we go back to 1970 and a bout for the essentially vacant world heavyweight title between a peak 'Smokin' Joe Frazier and Jimmy Ellis.
Thanks for comments and likes and shares. Keep doing what you're doing - it is hugely appreciated.
TYSON FURY suffered a cut last week that almost sent the boxing world into meltdown. Fear not, his date with Oleksandr Usyk has been rescheduled for May 18. But do concerns surrounding Fury have any substance?
We look back on Joshua Buatsi’s victory over Dan Azeez and review the latest chapter of the Conor Benn story.
And in This Week, we go back to 1990 to relive the most stunning upset of them all: Buster Douglas KO 10 Mike Tyson.
ON THE anniversary of one of the greatest coronations in boxing history, Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez prepare to do battle at light-heavyweight and the career of John Ryder is in the balance after his bruising loss to Jaime Munguia.
This Week in 1980 the man with the magic fists, feet and follicles - the only and only Salvador Sanchez - entered the highest of stages and wowed the world.
Back here in the present day, Azeez and Buatsi are gearing up for a world title eliminator with all the ingredients of an old school domestic ding-dong. But who wins?
Thanks for your support and reviews. It’s so appreciated - please keep them coming.
FOR some, the Natasha Jonas-Mikaela Mayer was a ‘robbery’. For others, it was fair enough. This week we wonder if controversy is a consequence of the current scoring system, or merely a symptom of the social media age.
We also look ahead to John Ryder taking on Jaime Munguia this weekend, as well as the bill in Belfast.
This Week goes back to 1976 and a slugfest of the ages: George Foreman vs Ron Lyle.
IF there were any question marks about Artur Beterbiev’s future in the sport at the age of 38, they were removed with a beastly bludgeoning of Callum Smith. That contest, and the ‘atypical’ fight week, are reviewed in-depth.
We look ahead to the Natasha Jonas-Mikaela Mayer bill in Liverpool, cast an eye over the WBC’s latest ruling on failed tests, and reflect on the burgeoning friendship between Frank and Eddie.
In This Week, we head back to 1973 and George Foreman wrecking the heavyweight reign of Smokin Joe Frazier.
Your support is hugely appreciated. Please follow us and leave a review - if you can be arsed.
WHAT a start to the year. Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou are readying for a scrap, Callum Smith is coming off a 16-month layoff to challenge Artur Beterbiev and Tony Weeks is the centre of attention.
The heavyweight landscape has been fuel-injected by Saudi riches but what to make of Joshua taking on a fighter with a record that reads 0-1? Without question, Beterbiev’s 19-0 (19) stats are significantly more impressive. But is Smith catching him at the right time?
Meanwhile, there was a disturbing social media post from Weeks following an early stoppage in Las Vegas. And in the same city, 25 years ago, Mike Tyson tried to snap Frans Botha’s arm in half before taking aim at his head.
We also hear from Dave Harris of Ringside Charitable Trust, who reveals a major promoter has - at last - come forward to offer their support.
Rate, review, and follow - but only if you want to.
2023 was another eventful year in boxing and this final episode brings together some of the big stories and interviews featured on the pod. Anthony Joshua was in reflective mood when discussing the final stage of his career, Victor Conte pulled no punches at all in challenging boxing's dopers and cheaters while Timothy Bradley gave a riveting insight into his punishing fight with Ruslan Provodnikov.
The boxing year started with Liam Smith stunning Chris Eubank Jnr, a result and performance upstaged only by the surprising efforts of Francis Ngannou against Tyson Fury later in the year. Matt Christie's reaction to that is worth another listen.
The year closed with the heavyweights taking centre stage on an extravagant bill in Saudi where Joe Parker got the career win he craved, Daniel Dubois earned the redemption he needed and Anthony Joshua produced the spectacular finish he most wanted.
ON a dramatic night in Saudi Arabia, Anthony Joshua looked terrific while stopping Otto Wallin, Joseph Parker outhustled a listless Deontay Wilder and Daniel Dubois thumped Jarrell Miller into submission.
Joshua’s partnership with Ben Davison got off to a flying start but the matchup with Wilder - who barely landed a single blow - could now be gone forever. We closely examine the performance of Dubois, too.
There was another upset, crafted by Agit Kabayel alongside more predictable wins for Dmitry Bivol, Filip Hrgovic and Jai Opetaia.
Get stuck in!
Wishing each of you a wonderful Christmas. Thanks, as always, for the support.

NORMALLY, on December 21, the boxing world is blind drunk and counting down the days to Christmas. Not this year! No sir-eeee.
The Opening Bell towers is awash with activity, starting with the exquisite battle between Bam Rodriguez and Sunny Edwards, before we rock around the Christmas tree in anticipation of this weekend’s bumper card in Saudi Arabia. Atop which is genuine jeopardy for both Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder. Will they both win?
Finally, we go back to 1963 and relive the moment when Emile Griffith really should have known better than to stand in the face of Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter.
We have been inundated with requests for Christmas gifts. Just leave a review instead!**
The final instalment of a four-part audio documentary about the unforgettable, career-defining rivalry between Carl Froch and George Groves. Both fighters, their trainers Rob McCracken and Paddy Fitzpatrick, and their promoter Eddie Hearn, revisit the way the eyes of the nation were on their iconic rematch at Wembley Stadium, the rematch itself, and exactly where its outcome left both fighters.
Interviews were conducted, and the script written, by Declan Warrington. Darren Rees produced, and Alex Steedman narrated.

WHAT a week for Devin Haney, Chris Billam-Smith, Ricky Hatton and Jane Couch. One wowed San Francisco, another lit up Bournemouth while two are set for Canastota in 2024.
We ponder what’s next for Haney following his punch perfect victory over Regis Prograis, review the performance of CBS and wonder what it takes to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Looking ahead, there’s a flyweight showdown to savour this weekend when Sunny Edwards battles Bam Rodriguez in a genuine 50/50 - but who’s our money on?
It was a week when Amazon Prime confirmed their involvement in boxing in 2024 and a week that celebrated the 41st anniversary of one of the most violent and thrilling 15-rounders of them all - Bobby Chacon v Rafael ‘Bazooka’ Limon IV.
One last thing… please leave us a review!
The third instalment of a four-part audio documentary about the unforgettable, career-defining rivalry between Carl Froch and George Groves. Both fighters, their trainers Rob McCracken and Paddy Fitzpatrick, and their promoter Eddie Hearn, recount the aftermath to their thrilling first fight, Groves’ determination to force a rematch, and the changing dynamics of their rivalry during the build-up to the date at Wembley Stadium that captivated the UK.
Interviews were conducted, and the script written, by Declan Warrington. Darren Rees produced, and Alex Steedman narrated.

THE hero of the last week was unquestionably Jordan Gill, thanks to both his performance against Michael Conlan and his incredible post-fight address. But one of the biggest stories of the week, yet again, was the latest chapter of the Chris Eubank and Conor Benn, will-they-won’t-they saga.
Ryan Garcia was another in the news, for his actions before and during his comeback bout with Oscar Duarte. And Garcia’s former amateur rival Devin Haney is also up for discussion, ahead of his enticing showdown with Regis Prograis at super-lightweight.
We also look ahead to Chris Billam-Smith’s maiden cruiserweight defence and, in a special This Week, where an organ is almost as memorable as any punches thrown, we go back to 1975 and battle between Danny Lopez and Ruben Olivares.
We haven’t had any reviews for a while - please leave one and we’ll read it out on next week’s show.
The second instalment of a four-part documentary about the unforgettable, career-defining rivalry between Carl Froch and George Groves. Both fighters, their trainers Rob McCracken and Paddy Fitzpatrick, and their promoter Eddie Hearn, revisit the endlessly entertaining and divisive first fight that made their similarly iconic rematch so inevitable.
Interviews were conducted, and the script written, by Declan Warrington. Darren Rees produced, and Alex Steedman narrated.

David Benavidez turned in a career best performance last weekend, forcing Demetrius Andrade to retire. It left many fans calling for only one rival for Benavidez next, and that’s Canelo Alvarez.
Katie Taylor was in majestic form too as she gained revenge over Chantelle Cameron but should that first round ‘knockdown’ have been called?
There’s a rather indifferent reaction to news that Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr are planning to fight on February 3, whereas a busy weekend ahead is previewed.
And in This Week, we go back to some vintage form from Matthew Saad Muhammad in which he scored a highlight reel KO.
Thanks for the support, please leave a review and a rating.
The first of a four-part audio documentary about the unforgettable, career-defining rivalry between Carl Froch and George Groves. Both fighters, their trainers Rob McCracken and Paddy Fitzpatrick, and their promoter Eddie Hearn, revisit the origins and evolution of a rivalry that shaped British boxing both then and in the years to come.

TYSON FURY hurled his customary insults at Oleksandr Usyk when their world heavyweight title showdown was confirmed last week. This time, alas, they had no effect whatsoever.
Has the Fury schtick finally outstayed its welcome? Furthermore, at the age of 35 and following a struggle with Francis Ngannou, are Fury’s best days behind him?
We ask the same question about Katie Taylor, ahead of her crucial rematch with Chantelle Cameron.
Nathan Heaney, meanwhile, turned in a superb showing to upset Denzil Bentley and Tyler Denny became European champ.
Finally, in This Week, we go back to 2006 and the final instalment of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales rivalry.
Enjoy, subscribe, review and spread the word!
EIGHT hours before it was confirmed that Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder will fight on the same bill in Saudi Arabia on December 23, Alex Steedman and Matt Christie examined the entire card and it’s place in boxing world.
The stacked Manchester card is previewed, so too the bids of Adam Azim and Tyler Denny to become European champions, and we look back on Harlem Eubank’s statement win in Brighton.
Best of all, perhaps, is the opportunity to relive a brawl so cinematic it’s scarcely believable that it took place at all, let alone during This Week In History.
Rate us, review us, follow us - if you have the time, of course. Thanks for the support one and all.
THINGS change fast in boxing. One minute you’re watching your beloved sport on ITV, along with 20 million other people, and the next you’re subscribing to sport-only channels to get your fix while begrudging the extra cost for box office events. And very soon, we’re led to believe, you’ll be watching on Netflix in between binging on Stranger Things and Breaking Bad. Is this latest move good for boxing?
We also examine Joe Cordina’s victory in Monte Carlo and wonder if he’s on the brink of a defeat or edging closer to a breakout victory.
And, finally, Derrick Jefferson vs Maurice Harris. Well, if you know, you know. If you don’t, let us take you back to This Week in 1999 for one of the most stunning of all punches that abruptly concluded one of the most action-packed fights the heavyweight division has ever seen. ‘We love you Derrick Jefferson!’
And we love you too. If the feeling is mutual, please leave a review, rate us, follow us and get on your socials and tell the world about us.
THOUGH it appeared that Francis Ngannou had thrown a spanner the size of Saudi Arabia into the works on Saturday night, we've been reliably informed that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will fight early next year. We delve deeper into the aftershock of Fury-Ngannou, the performances of both fighters, the reasons behind those performances, what they mean for Usyk's chances and speculate on the African returning to a prize ring sooner than you may think.
We also review Amanda Serrano winning a bout over 12-three-minute rounds and the implications of that longer duration for the female code moving forward. There was a blazing Round of the Year contender to admire, too.
And we take you back to 1995 and the bruising finale to one of boxing history's most exciting heavyweight rivalries - Riddick Bowe-Evander Holyfield III.
Thanks to all of you who continue to listen and show your support; you are wonderful people! If you haven't already, please leave a review, follow us and tell all your like-minded friends and family about us. Until next time...
IN a special reaction podcast, Alex Steedman and Matt Christie share their genuine astonishment after Francis Ngannou almost beat Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia.
How on earth did that happen?
Strap yourselves in for 40 minutes of chat between two boxing experts who clearly know nothing whatsoever about boxing.
Please rate, review and subscribe. We appreciate your time, attention and support! Happy Sunday one and all.
FEAR not, we’re not about to insult your intelligence and make a case for Francis Ngannou to do the literal impossible when he takes on Tyson Fury. But this whole affair does raise some very interesting questions that we attempt to answer.
Those questions begin with the British Boxing Board of Control’s involvement with the show - particularly with the ongoing Conor Benn saga taking a new twist in the last week.
The highlights of last weekend - like the performances of Jack Catterall and Isaac Chamberlain - are under review and the introduction of 12-three-minute rounds for female boxing is debated.
Finally, we look back on a historic night from This Week in 1970 when Muhammad Ali emerged from his hiatus to take on Jerry Quarry.
Keep the reviews coming, give us a follow and spread the word! Your support is always appreciated you lovely people.
WHAT happens on a press day when the cover story - Buatsi v Azeez - is cancelled mere hours before deadline? Does Showtime’s exit from boxing speak of a wider problem? And how are we supposed to react to news that Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr is all but a done deal?
Alongside attempting to answer those questions we examine the middleweight landscape following Qazak Style’s latest destruction job and cast our eyes over Tim Tszyu’s relentless rise.
And in This Week In History, we revisit an archetypal domestic battle - with a dramatic ending - staged inside York Hall with some famous faces in attendance.
Please rate, review and subscribe. We are eternally grateful for the support.
LEIGH WOOD produced another sensational finish to break the heart of Josh Warrington after a stirring battle that exceeded our high expectations.
The sudden finish and its implications are discussed alongside the performance of the referee and the potential futures of both fighters. So too the beauty of the 50/50 domestic showdown.
We look ahead to the weekend’s action and go back to 1967 as we tell the story of the third fight between two featherweight legends, Vincente Saldivar and Howard Winstone.
Thanks for all your ratings, reviews and follows. Keep them coming!
JUST when we least expected it and long after we’d grown weary from even hoping for it, it was confirmed last week that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will at last do battle. There’s one or two things to resolve, however.
Canelo Alvarez made easy work of Jermell Charlo. What comes next for the Mexican superstar as he plots the final stages of his career?
We also look ahead to a terrific British showdown between Leigh Wood and Josh Warrington, reflect on Jordan Thompson’s brutal loss to Jai Opetaia and, in This Week, relive Joel Casamayor’s thrilling victory over Diego Corrales.
Please rate us, review us, tell the world about us!
WE start this week with a Big Bang and a review of Joe Joyce being knocked out by Zhilei Zhang. Then it’s onto the events in Florida, which hosted Sandy Ryan-Jessica McCaskill and Conor Benn’s comeback, a preview of Canelo Alvarez-Jermell Charlo before we close with a step back in time to Kelly Pavlik’s thrilling victory over Jermain Taylor.
Through all of that we attempt to answer the following questions:
Please rate, review and subscribe! Thanks for your ongoing support.
THE comeback of Conor Benn was a possibility when the recording of this podcast began and became a reality midway through.
Thomas Hauser’s latest study into performance-enhancing drugs is also discussed, alongside Joe Joyce’s impending - and fascinating - rematch with Zhihei Zhang.
We look back on the latest performance of Luis Alberto Lopez, too.
And there’s the classic that never was in This Week - Felix Trinidad v Oscar De La Hoya.
Please rate, review and follow or subscribe! We’ll get there in the end…
CANELO ALVAREZ doesn’t seem keen on a clash with Terence Crawford and who can blame him. Though this would be a ginormous event, it might also be the worst idea in the world for the Mexican superstar.
This was supposed to be the year of Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder. But instead it’s the year of Fury vs Francis Ngannou. We examine the reasons why the heavyweight division is eating itself and consider the chances of a brighter 2024.
Women’s boxing is also discussed, or rather the changing face of it, as several leading stars signal their intention to join MMA league and a world title fight is set for 12-three-minute rounds.
And, in This Week, we go back to 1975 and a bruising humdinger between Ron Lyle and Earnie Shavers.
CHRIS EUBANK JR breathed new life into his eventful career when he stopped Liam Smith in their rematch in Manchester, in the same arena where Smith stopped Eubank just eight months ago.
The performance from Eubank was hard to fault, there was new patience and intelligence mixed with spite. But the below-par showing of Smith is also worthy of investigation.
We look at the position of VADA in British boxing and, again, the unrelenting problem of drugs in the sport.
And we take a trip back in time to focus on the career of Kirkland Laing and specifically the astonishing victory over Roberto Duran which took place this week in 1982.
Please rate us. Leave a review. Hit subscribe. Follow us. Tell all your pals about The Opening Bell.
IN a special episode of The Opening Bell, Victor Conte discusses the issue of performance-enhancing drugs in detail.
Once notorious for his part in the BALCO scandal which involved several high-profile athletes, Conte is now campaigning for a clean sport and is arguably the most knowledgable figure in boxing on the subject of PEDs.
Conte highlights the extent of PED use in boxing today, explains how and why fighters can get away with taking them, while identifying what must happen to eradicate the problem. There are important lessons to learn in a fascinating, enlightening and at times sobering interview.
There is also time to preview Liam Smith-Chris Eubank II and reflect a bit more on Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois, and that punch.
Please rate, review, subscribe, follow and, best of all, share that love. We appreciate you!
OLEKSANDR USYK defeated Daniel Dubois in nine rounds, a result that most expected. But there was a moment in the fifth round that has stolen all the headlines. In this special reaction podcast, we ask the question: Was the punch that felled Usyk a legal one. Better still, we attempt to answer it…

And in a lighter section of the show, we venture back to a time when Acelino Freitas was one of the most reliable thrill-seekers in boxing.

In Dublin, there’s another high-end showdown between Ireland’s superstar Katie Taylor and Chantelle Cameron. This one, too, is loaded with intrigue.

LAST night, Anthony Joshua got back to winning ways when he outpointed the plucky Jermaine Franklin over 12 rounds.
Joshua won almost all of those 12 rounds yet the criticism has been fierce.
Are we expecting too much from AJ? More pertinently, is the extreme analysis of his every move hindering him? The pressure he’s under is perhaps the toughest opponent of them all.
Thanks for listening, and your ongoing support. Leave a review if you have the time.
A WEEK has passed since Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and their respective teams finally pulled the plug on the heavyweight superfight.
In a way, it’s almost a relief that, this weekend, we get a contest free from such complications when Anthony Joshua embarks on the next stage of his career against Jermaine Franklin. Surely Joshua won’t slip up, will he?

IT was this week announced by the WBC that Conor Benn can return to their rankings even though he doesn’t appear to have a licence to fight with any governing body or boxing commission after failing two drug tests last year.

There is also an attempt to offer a balanced view on Benn’s claims that eating eggs was the reason for failing tests…

THE death of Ron Lewis was a horrible, sobering shock. In this week’s episode the extent of his impact on boxing, and how much he’ll be missed, is abundantly clear as the fraternity gather to pay tribute.

TWO of the best fighters in the sport, Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue, scored one-sided victories in the last week.
We review their performances and their place in a sport that seems unable to provide the fights or platforms to ensure the leading fighters achieve true greatness.
Conor Benn unveiled his latest social media masterpiece this week and the WBA ordered that Oleksandr Usyk must fight Daniel Dubois, and not obvious rival Tyson Fury, if he wants to keep his heavyweight belt.

AS we feared, Tyson Fury’s third fight with Derek Chisora turned out to be a one-sided beatdown.
Chisora was typically brave and Fury typically good. But what about the sport? How did that behave by allowing such a mismatch to occur?
The performance of the referee and Chisora’s corner are also examined.
Please rate, review and follow.
TYSON FURY this week goes over old ground when he takes on Derek Chisora for a third time. Is there any way on planet earth that Del Boy can uncork a miracle and win?
Though Fury-Chisora III will get the most attention this weekend, it’s far from the best fight being staged. So we focus, too, on a beyond worthy third fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez, while also examining the fascinating domestic clash between Troy Williamson and Josh Kelly,
All of last weekend’s action is reviewed and, in This Week, we venture back to Leonard-Duran II. No mas? No chance! All the latest news, including Eubank Jnr-Smith being on PPV, is also on the menu.

The return of Dillian Whyte, the bill at Ally Pally and the Prograis-Zepeda contest are also previewed. We also look back on Liam Davies’ excellent victory last weekend.
This Week focuses on the arrival of Mike Tyson.

TYSON FURY and Oleksandr Usyk can change the face of boxing and safeguard its future… If they steer clear of daft demands and do what’s best for them.
There isn’t a single commission, sanctioning or governing body in place to ensure the best fights occur. Why?

CONOR BENN last week confirmed that the failed test that ultimately cancelled his fight with Chris Eubank Jr was his second failed test. He is planning to prove his innocence. But can he?
Tyson Fury wouldn’t even entertain the subject during his recent interview with True Geordie though he did have plenty of choice words for the host.

WHAT began as a day of genuine excitement for the impending showdown between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn took a dark turn when a positive test for a banned substance emerged.
But the fight, it appears, will go ahead with or without the backing of the British Boxing Board of Control. A shambles to say the least. We do our best to explain the events of a miserable day.
This Week is far more cheerful fare as we remember the British heavyweight showdown between Lennox Lewis and Frank Bruno.
ALEX STEEDMAN is in Ibiza and surviving on two hours sleep a day. That didn't stop him hosting this week's podcast. But even that herculean display of strength and stamina is nothing on Joe Joyce, who turned in the best performance of his career to stop Joseph Parker last weekend.
Alongside Matt Christie, the showing of Joyce is examined and the conclusions drawn suggest that 'The Juggernaut' is going to take some stopping, even if he crosses paths with Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua.
The latest victories of Maxi Hughes, Amanda Serrano and Terri Harper are also reviewed while one of the most bizarre endings to a fight - the 2002 clash between Ricky Hatton and Stephen Smith - is remembered in This Week.

It comes a week after promoter Frank Warren voiced his displeasure at Boxing News, labelling it ‘not worth wrapping your fish and chips in.’
Parker, steering clear of takeaways, tells us about his newfound dedication, his burgeoning relationships with Andy Lee and Tyson Fury, and why there can be no excuses should he lose.
We look back on the third and surely final fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin before looking ahead to the Nottingham bill featuring Maxi Hughes-Kid Galahad.
This Week focuses on the Cotto-Torres bar burner from 2005.
CONSIDERING there was no UK action last weekend due to the passing of the Queen, there's an awful lot to talk about...

TYSON FURY called out Anthony Joshua on social media on Monday. Only days later, fans are starting to believe that it might actually happen after Furt revealed a purse split that Joshua has subsequently agreed to.
So will it really happen? Are we about the see the Battle of Britain? Matt Christie and Alex Steedman attempt to answer.
One fight that did happen, twice, was Aaron Pryor vs Alexis Arguello. We look back on the rematch for This Week Is History.
AFTER a summer break of sorts, British boxing is preparing itself for lift-off again. Yet behind the scenes, the promoters are back in their familiar position, jostling for position, battling for signatures and looking to make statements of intent.
Matchroom appear to have been seduced by the fat wallets in the Middle East. It means that fighters will be paid well and good fights are likely to be made. But there is far more to it than that, as this podcast attempts to explain.

A FEW days have passed since Oleksandr Usyk repeated his September 2021 victory over Anthony Joshua, again on points. There is plenty to consider, not least the performance of Usyk, the brilliance of which was lost somewhat when Joshua made his by now infamous post-fight address.
We explore the mental fortitude exhibited by Usyk alongside his obvious boxing skill, and explain why Joshua was always gong to be up against it when faced with this version of the Ukrainian.
There is a more considered view of Joshua's own performance, both during the fight and afterwards, as we attempt to explain what makes a fighter and celebrity like Joshua almost impossible empathise with. And of course we focus on what comes next for both fighters as Tyson Fury (yet again) teases the possibility of a return.

ON this week’s Opening Bell, Boxing News editor Matt Christie tells Alex Steedman about the difficulties of covering Floyd Mayweather in his current role as an ex-boxer partaking in exhibitions with YouTubers.

The subject matter - that of brain damage in boxing - is notoriously difficult to address in a sport that thrives on punches to the head. Nonetheless, it’s explored in detail here.
Dixon, alongside current BN editor Matt Christie and Alex Steedman, talks earnestly about the sport he loves, the fighters he’s met and the sobering conclusion he’s come to: In boxing, there is no such thing as a dot-to-dot guide to getting out unscathed and damage can strike at any time.
This in-depth look at safety in boxing is a must-listen for the entire industry.
AS Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua went their separate ways after 11 months of dilly-dallying, Josh Taylor went to Las Vegas and proved he was the world’s best fighter in his weight class.

IN light of Billy Joe Saunders being retired by his corner against Canelo Alvarez, the issue of quitting has again been brought into sharp focus.

CANELO ALVAREZ underlined his status as the best fighter in the sport as he forced Billy Joe Saunders to stay on his stool after the eighth round.
Prior to the abrupt finish it had been an intriguing bout with Canelo starting fast and Saunders gaining a foothold, of sorts, in the middle rounds.
Up for discussion is the issue of ‘quitting’ and the connotations and consequences of it, those scorecards that favoured Canelo and the future of both fighters following this memorable event.

This Week In History lands in 2007 when Floyd Mayweather narrowly outpointed Oscar De La Hoya in a massive Las Vegas superfight.

The exquisite Four Kings by George Kimball is book of the week.

Alex and Matt Christie discuss the latest Joshua-Fury developments but not before they pay a detailed tribute to the one and only Marvelous Marvin Hagler.
The best tribute of all came hours after the announcement of the legend’s passing when Juan Francisco Estrada and Chocolatito Gonzalez engaged in a rematch of the ages.

Robert Smith, of the Boxing Board of Control, admits there are flaws in the current system while Matt Christie and Alex Steedman debate the issue.
Scoring is of course just one part of officiating; at the weekend, referee Howard Foster was accused of allowing Josh Warrington to take too much punishment in his punishing defeat to Mauricio Lara.

IN this special reaction podcast, Alex Steedman and Matt Christie attempt to break down an eventful night at Wembley that saw Josh Warrington lose to Mauricio Lara in a beyond brutal upset and the judges - again - steal the headlines for some contentious scoring on the undercard.
Warrington was eventually stopped in the ninth round but arguments that the bout should have been halted as early as the fourth carry significant weight.
In chief-support, eyes rolled as Zelfa Barrett was named the victor over a sprightly Kiko Martinez. The Briton may have done enough to win, but the cards, namely two that read 118-111 in his favour, were not in keeping with the fight witnessed by the vast majority of observers.
The question - as always it seems - is, what can or should be done in the face of officiating controversies?
