Everyone's talking about Baby Reindeer, so I thought it was time to join the conversation. Of course, I am looking at things from an astrological edge, and when they gave specific dates in the show, I just had to note them down to take a look. The show was launched on 11 April 2024, during a highly volatile and compelling period of planetary transits (eclipse season, Mercury retrograde, and the Jupiter–Uranus conjunction). Unsurprisingly, the nature of the story is shocking, moving and helplessly fascinating. The themes of this dark drama really plug into the zeitgeist. It is important to note I don't have accurate birth data for Richard Gadd who plays Donald Dunn a.k.a. Baby Reindeer, and the dates discussed during the show may be fictional dates, but that doesn't matter because I believe any dates mentioned/fabricated/mistakenly issued, always hold some sort of meaning or significance. That said, social and generational planets are slower moving, so I think they give a general feel for a period in time, without the need for zooming in on the personal planets/details. A few weeks back I was reading a book called A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and found myself relating the content to planetary transits and astrological placements.
I talked about the transpersonal planets, or as they're commonly known: the Gods of change.
This is all coinciding with a Pluto transit that I am currently having to my natal Mercury placement, so I wanted to share the insights I am having.

Something I’ve wanted to explore on this show for a very long time is a popular predictive technique called Secondary Progressions.
I’ve always been intrigued but have spent most of my time focussing on other techniques because they came more naturally to me.
So I decided to get my friend and astrological colleague, Fernanda Paiva, on the show to talk about this incredible predictive technique, while sharing the knowledge with you, too!
Two phrases Fernanda used which were particularly evocative were “mining for meaning” and “the inward-facing eye” to describe the function and application of this fascinating topic.

I remember some time back in 2015, clicking around the additional objects on astro.com and discovering asteroid Juno who happened to be sandwiched right between my tight Mercury–Venus conjunction.
Of course I was intrigued, but I was deep in the throes of a Pluto transit, so I had limited focus for distractions at that time.
Recently by chance, I got talking to today’s guest: Lianne McCafferty, about her peacock-inspired workspace – relevant for me over recent months as my little boy and I have been obsessed with them! We regularly have to visit the local “beegogs” as he so adorably puts it.
Turns out peacocks are associated with Juno! Just magical.
Leanne has been fascinated with Juno since 2019/20 and has done a great deal of research which she is kindly sharing with us today.
Like Venus and Jupiter, Leanne believes Juno to have benefic qualities which is no surprise as Juno is the wife of Jupiter.
She is also known as Hera in Greek Mythology: long-suffering and committed wife of nymph-chasing serial-adulterer Zeus.
But Juno is about so much more than relationships – she impacts not only on a personal level, but social and mundane levels too, due to the speed, location and elliptical orbit of this fascinating asteroid.

Cerebral Mercury has entered his shadow period in preparation of his retrograde motion in his Virgo on 23/24 August (depending where on Earth you are).
During this time there is a magical Grand Earth Trine forming in the skies, comprising of Mercury–Mars in Virgo, Jupiter–Uranus in Taurus and Pluto in Capricorn!
The whole period is triggered into action by a secretly seething Moon in Scorpio opposite a rather discombobulated Uranus in Taurus, forming a temperamental T-Square apexing at righteous Lilith in Leo and the fastidious Sun in Virgo...
Another thing to observe is the crossover between Venus and Mercury retrograde periods; both highlighting areas we need to identify what we truly value, followed up with a tricky decision which could prompt a complete change of direction.
Under these volatile planetary conditions our manifesting ability could mimic the Midas touch.
During this period it would be wise of us all to be careful what we wish for.
...btw, apologies for the quality of the recording. Unfortunately I had some Mercury retro gremlins (I know it’s not that time just yet, but somehow these things seem to magically coincide).

The time is upon us –once again– to revel in the glory of Venus retrograde.
During this period Venus meets with Lilith, Mercury, squares Uranus, and is instigated by a triggering grand-cross configuration with the Sun opposite Pluto both square to the North and South Nodes, all at the 29th “crisis” degree of the cardinal signs.
Not so subtle.
You will likely hear about romantic revelations, drastic changes, defiant behaviour, unexpected financial outgoings, cancelled plans, old-flames revisited and a complete 180° on long held values – though not necessarily all at once, or to one person.
There’s a checklist as long as my arm detailing things we shouldn’t do during this time, but it’s all very dependant on you and the circumstances around that decision (hence a deeper dive into your own natal chart with an astrologer is advisable if you're concerned).
So don’t freak out if you have a wedding booked have planned a big purchase. Some of these things are beyond our control and happen when they’re meant to.

During my recent research into Venus Retrograde, the Barbie movie appeared in my feed labelled ‘feminist icon’.

Rolf Harris was a celebrity artist and musician whose life took a very dark turn.
A household name once loved by many, at the height of his career he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
His loveable reputation was irreparably damaged when charges of indecent assault were made against him during Saturn’s time trawling the depths of Scorpio, and From 6 May 2014, Harris went on trial and was convicted on 30th June 2014 on all twelve counts.
During this pivotal period of his life, everything changed and overnight Harris became a disgraced public figure who abused his position.
He died on May 10th 2023 and his legacy has been brought up, once again for public scrutiny.
During this episode I look at some of the transits that saw Rolf Harris' fall from grace.

On Tuesday May 16th, Prince Harry, Meghan and her mother were in a “near catastrophic” car chase, pursued by paparazzi following the Women of Vision Gala in New York.
This is deeply disturbing considering Harry’s beloved mother, Diana Princess of Wales, lost her life in a high speed car chase in Paris while being pursued by paparazzi, on 31 August 1997.
In an open letter dated October 1st 2019, Harry wrote “My deepest fear is history repeating itself, I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."
Hopefully history won’t repeat itself. However, there are certainly echoes in the circumstances which make interesting viewing from an astrological lens.
I hope we can see this as an opportunity to make changes before greed and celebrity obsession claim more lives – all in in the name of the next big headline.

The momentous passing of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth III was viewed on the world stage.
As the longest reigning Monarch in history, her son Charles, successor to the throne, must have felt conflicted about his time in the spotlight, knowing it would follow the death of his mother.
His time has come, and King Charles III will be crowned at his coronation at Westminster Abbey on 06/05/23, on a Lunar Eclipse, during Mercury Retrograde, just over a month after Pluto entered Aquarius for the first time since 1798.

March 2023 has some pretty major planetary transits: Saturn in Pisces on the 7th, and Pluto in Aquarius on the 23rd.
Lots of my listeners, viewers and clients have been in touch with concerns about what these major shifts could mean for them and whether it's 'bad'.

Pluto enters Pisces on 23rd March 2023 and it’s a pretty big deal – the last time he entered Aquarius was 1777, and the next will be 2269!
In fact the last time Pluto was in Aquarius, Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) – which is the same time measurement as Universal Time (UT) – was yet to be established! Time prior to 1884 was measured in Local Mean Time (LMT).
None of us will see our Pluto return as he takes 248 years to do one lap of the Sun, though most will live to see their Pluto squares at around 40 years of age. if you live a long and healthy life you may also reach your Pluto opposition – but that’s for the select few (like my beautiful grandmother, God rest her soul).

Saturn enters Pisces on 7th March 2023 which is the first time he’s not been in a sign he rules since 2017.
His move into Pisces signals a huge shift which coincides with the ingress of both Pluto in Aquarius and Mars in Cancer – both occurring in the same month (more on these in future shows).
Saturn was last in Pisces between May 1993 and April 1996 – those of you listening who were born during this time will be having your first Saturn return during this period.
You could be having your second or third Saturn return during this period – I’ve included the Saturn in Pisces dates for these periods, below.

I recently watched the Netflix Docuseries: Ancient Apocalypse with Graham Hancock – it wasn’t the first time I’d been introduced to his theories and ideas (I’m an alternative podcast nerd from the mid-noughties) – however, it was the first time I’d taken a look at his birth chart.
What I find most interesting is not his theories, but how his mind is able to make such connections and most importantly: WHY he feels motivated to uncover this mystery.

This week I wanted to touch on the fact we're between eclipses, while looking at something pretty major that's finalised during this volatile period: Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter.
Regardless of your thoughts on Musk, this takeover is a huge deal considering the distribution of information is channelled mostly through social media platforms that are all owned by Meta, the CEO of which is Mark Zuckerburg.
The acquisition of Twitter by Elon Musk began on April 14, 2022, and concluded on October 27, 2022.
As Pluto nears his first foray in Aquarius since 1798, astrologers are preparing themselves for some big changes in the hierarchy, inclusive of the plutocrats that decide which information can be shared or filtered down to the little people (us!)

We've all heard people using the terminology, but what exactly is the retrograde shadow period and is it exclusive to Mercury?
According to astrologers, there is more than one definition for a shadow period and I attempt to clarify this for you all – as Mercury is in his pre-shadow and entering retrograde motion!
As this is the case, apologies if I don't actually offer a decent explanation. This is an enhanced podcast episode so I had to go do a lot of editing as there were a few mercurial mistakes – pretty sure you can cut me some slack given the current planetary weather.

This week I decided to explore a listener chart as Karis is having a bit of a difficult time and I thought it would a a good chart to look at and try to shed some light on the planets currently transiting her chart.
I also look at her Solar Arc directed chart and her progressed chart – we’ve looked at Solar Arc before but have’t explored progressions just yet.
As you can see, Karis is undergoing a few transits which are causing her to question her direction and where she focusses her time and energy, while also undergoing some pretty major transits which trigger some deep personal exploration.

I was inspired to record this week's episode after a conversation I had with a friend of mine who has a Pisces stellium including her Moon.
We discussed some cleansing, grounding and protecting techniques that she could use to 'protect' her super absorbent lunar placement.

Anyway, this week I discuss 'Auric Hygiene' (did I coin this term?!) and next week I'll talk about grounding and protecting and offer some tips on how to do this with little disruption to your day!

p.s: This episode was recorded in two parts and as is always the way, this was no accident in a planetary sense. I started recording 26° Scorpio was prominent, and finished recording a few days later when the Moon was at 29° Pisces. What I find fascinating is the fact these degrees are that of my late-grandmother's Sun and Ascendant respectively, and she got a big mention during this episode!

Prince Harry has always been my favourite royal.
When his engagement to Meghan Markle was announced I was intrigued – other than the fact she was an actress on a show called Suits I didn't really know much about her (so of course I did a lot of googling).
When cooing about his romance with Megan, Harry stated "the stars were aligned" and he wasn’t wrong; there's something wonderfully poignant about their astrological synastry.

Once upon a time on a celebrity reality TV show, two of the UK's cheesiest celebrities crossed paths, and cupid's bow struck them hard.

Today's episode took me on a thought journey! My original plan was to stick to a rough structure but I let the mood of the moment carry me into a ponderland of mundane* astrology peppered with moments of synastry and sensory exploration.
Yes I went on a waffly one, but listening back it was so much better that I thought it would be (this is always what happens!) so I must thank the source which allows this channel of information to flow though me.

We all feel the affects of other people in our lives; the love, the laughter, the stress, the frustration!
But other than being aware of others physically and how they make us feel, have you ever wondered if it's possible to hear synastry?
It’s an area I’ve been interested in for quite a while as something very magical happens when people collaborate musically.
If you like music you’ll love looking at the charts of the artists you love and understanding a new dimension of their artistic expression, as well as how their charts act as a type of interference pattern when two people get together and impact each other, creating a totally unique sound.
I’ll probably make a few episodes on this subject as there are a lot of great (and not-so-great) musicians out there who will be fun to explore!
I had to start with John Lennon and Paul McCartney – both so talented, and so different. Amazing apart, amazing together. Totally unique and influential.

Just recently I've been binge-watching Stranger Things and I have a bit of a thing for David Harbour.
On a Googling spree I discovered he's married to UK pop star Lily Allen. Of course from that point onward my Scorpio Moon and Mercury–Venus square Pluto went into overdrive delving into Lily and David's relationship, discovering lots about them both. A bit stalkery I guess.
To ease my personal shame I decided to turn this crazy stalking into something productive by turning my thoughts into a podcast episode.
To be fair, Lily Allen and David Harbour have some very interesting synastry, even when using the noon charts (which is all that's available).

One of my lovely patrons, Laci C, asked me recently:
"Is there any merit to attracting specific signs? Like let’s say all you do is attract air venus’ or air moons? Would you say that means you lack something and should try to focus on those qualities more? Or is that just pop astrology playing with my heart?"
I thought this was an interesting question because there is some merit to attracting certain signs/qualities in our partners.
I can't cover it all, but I've given it my best shot for this episode which again – you've guessed it – I recorded in my car!

It was the Queen's Platinum Jubilee here in the UK this weekend just gone, so I thought I'd take a look at the chart of our monarch and talk a little about her incredible 70 years of service to the crown from an astrological perspective.

I'm podcasting in my car – again! I wonder if I'll ever get back in my studio? This week I decided to talk about whether relationships with 'bad' aspects are destined to fail.
FYI: I'm not convinced they are – though the aspects may take some work to live with, it's not impossible.
It takes a lot of self-awareness as well though, so don't think it's all about pointing the finger of blame outside ourselves!

Following last week's episode on Scorsese and De Niro's synastry I decided to share some further thoughts on Scorsese's other collaborative partners.

Is it possible to use Astrology to win money through gambling? The short answer is: Yes!
In this episode I talk about my recent ‘flutter’ on the UK’s biggest annual horse racing event: The Grand National, and how I picked my horses out using astrology.
It takes a bit of time getting the knack of it – with 40 horses in the running, there’s a lot of room for error!
What’s interesting about this race is its occurrence every year around the same date (so the Sun is always in Aries) and how it reflects the current astrology in the skies. This year’s Jupiter–Neptune conjunction was clearly present in the names of the horses running.
Spoiler alert: I actually won some money, and I also made a HUGE mistake which lost me A LOT of money – waaa! (insert sad face emoji)
This is intended as a bit of fun and I would like to emphasise that you should always gamble responsibly and don’t get carried away (like I do – I’m blaming my Jupiter in Sagittarius!). Only Gamble what you can afford to lose (again, I am guilty of breaking this rule!).
Also, in the pre-waffle I mention that I discussed UK PM Boris Johnson and the potential he'd be held accountable for his early-pandemic-partying actually happened this week on the day of the Jupiter–Neptune conjunction (April 12th). I mention it around 22:32, and have included a link to the video, below.

This conjunction happens in Pisces—the sign both Jupiter and Neptune rule by traditional and modern rulership—once every 166 years. So this is kind’ve a big deal!

Did anything interesting happen this week? Um, yeah, it did!
Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on stage for poking fun at Jada Pinkett–Smith’s shaved head.
Whether Chris knew it at the time or not, Jada actually has a health condition called alopecia which can be caused by a number of factors, but the bottom line is that it’s can cause insecurity and an extreme lack of confidence to the person it affects.
I have worked as a hairdresser in my time on this planet and also trained in Afro-Carribean hair. I am by no means an expert, but I do understand the importance of hair to women the world over, and also the expense that some people are prepared to go to in order to have good hair.
Interestingly, Chris Rock knows this too as he created a documentary a few years back called, just that: Good Hair.
So this seemingly inoffensive joke he made about Jada, was actually a deeply triggering statement which tapped into a super sensitive area for her – and this was something Will wasn’t going to stand for.
I don’t really have to go into details because the incident was everywhere and has become an iconic moment in television history. And I’m not really about to start figuring who was right or wrong in this situation – it’s very deep and I could argue each perspective.
What is of interest to me though, are the astrological events which triggered the incident and how the ‘synastry’ or relationship between Will, Jada and Chris interplay.
Let’s gain a deeper insight into this unforgettable moment which will remain part of Will Smith’s reputation for the rest of his life.

Today I share a few more ways to sharpen observation skills and tune in to the many nuances connecting our daily lives to the planetary dance above our heads – the stuff that’s so subtle it can pass us by as little synchronicities that often go unnoticed.
Since recording this podcast I’ve taken a walk around a huge lake in the local country park, when the sun was at 29° Pisces and 29° Cancer was rising – SO watery!
I’ve also taken a stroll along the local canal and been for a drink at the pub nearby called The Navigator.
I love how literal astrology can be sometimes – lots of watery activities as Jupiter and Neptune come together in our skies in Pisces and not just relating to Pisces season in general.
It’s a great practise to get into, paying attention to everything around us and recognising how our choices and surroundings are relating to the current astrological weather.
Apologies for getting distracted by a cat in the neighbours window during todays episode!

This week I’m encouraging you to sharpen your astrological observation skills by setting you a (non-obligatory) homework assignment.
All you need to do is mindfully engage with your actions and surroundings by making mental or physical notes on events that transpire on a chosen day—particularly if you have plans organised already—and then later on go back and see whether there is a connection to the planetary movements.
Of course, there will be! But learning how to observe and recognise these movements is key to ‘feeling’ the moment and connecting with astrology in action.

There's been a distinct shift in media reporting lately, and for very obvious reasons.
Russia and Ukraine are the topic of great concern and the man hogging the headlines is Vladimir Putin (for obvious reasons).
Naturally lots of astrologers want to look at his natal chart to see what insight it has to offer.
But the only data we have access to do is incredibly unreliable – what astrologers would call 'dirty data'.
As we explored the noon chart last week when looking at the Tinder Swindler – a chart with no birth time – I thought it would be interesting to look at the sunrise chart for Vladimir Putin, whose birth chart has been rectified and is not known to be correct.
The sunrise chart is a preferred method for most astrologers curious to have a look at natal placements when working without a birth time.

I recently saw the Netflix documentary the Tinder Swindler which was absolutely fascinating!
Naturally I had to look at the astrological perspective of Tinder Swindler Simon Leviev's birth chart to see what could motivate a person to perpetrate such awful crimes.
But, as so often happens when googling for chart details, I can find a date and place, but no birth time.
Though not ideal, in this situation I like to cast a noon-chart to have a look at the public image/professional outlook placements as the 10th house/mosit visible house of the chart is often the midday position in the natal chart (depending on the system you use and other factors).
I use this episode to look at the "Tinder Swindler's" natal chart from the perspective of the noon chart and explore the story portrayed allowing us to have some insight into someone's chart without actually having an accurate birth time.

I remember starting out on my student journey so well. Hearing someone else explain the natal chart and it making so much sense, and then going away and trying to do the same with my friends and family and finding it overwhelming. Where to start? Should I be doing exactly the same as my teacher? Am I supposed to interpret everything in the chart? What if I get asked something specific and can't answer?
Well these are common concerns for any student astrologer and we can over compensate by trying to cover too much.
So I decided to record this episode with 5 pointers that should help you hone in on making your life easier rather than fussing over unneccesary details!

There's a simple yet effective technique I use when interpreting the natal chart which instantly unlocks an added dimension of meaing and depth.
This is a method used by a lot of astrologers writing horoscopes, but I learned you can apply it to the natal chart for a different take on what natal placements mean.
Interestingly, I didn't realise how effective this method would be until I met someone opened my eyes to it and I suddenly realised how multi-faceted natal chart interpretation can be.
Honestly, astrology blows my mind and amazes me on a daily basis, hence I am totally addicted to the craft!

"How would one read this regarding houses? Say transiting Venus is aspecting natal Neptune in the first house – which house is irrelevant? How does the house where the transiting planet is (Venus in this case) play into the effect on/with the house Neptune is in? This is obviously more important when the transiting planet is aspecting a natal planet - I can't seem to "get" the connection of a transiting planet in a house and how that would affect another transiting planet in another house nor a planet in the birth chart."

In this week’s episode I talk about aspects at the request of one of my Patterns who asked the following question:
“Your pod and the drawing on how to think about aspects was very helpful, however, I find myself lost regarding what planet is affecting the other. In a regular horoscope, like for instance, January 5th, retrograde Venus will be sextiling Neptune. Got it. But, is it the faster planet (Venus) bringing something to Neptune or is it Neptune affecting Venus in Venus' transit?”
It's a fair point which deserves addressing!

So you’ve listened to all the foundation episodes of the podcast. You’ve absorbed the information like the thirsty little astro-nerd you are (you’re in good company here!) and you’re almost ready to go.
Except, you aren’t quite sure how to pull it all together? It’s all good and well knowing how everything works separately, but how do you put it all together and give the chart a voice?
There are generally two approaches a couple of methods with astrology which help to understand the chart.
Firstly you can find your way in using a methodical approach using the ’big three’ – the Sun, Moon and Ascendant. The Ascendant is a great place to start as the figurative ‘front door’ of the chart.
Then there’s the an intuitive approach, allowing the chart to speak to you and following the most enticing thread you find.
It seems like other people can just glance at a chart and see the story behind it. And they probably can, but it takes practice.
An ultimately, there is no right or wrong way to start reading the natal chart, just do what feels right to you!
Hopefully this episode helps you to understand how to pull it together if you’re not sure how to approach interpretation.

This is a pre-recorded show as this week it’s my birthday! Hooray!
It’s one of the more commonly known aspects of astrology these days – even Taylor Swift has talked about it publicly. We like to blame our misgivings on it, and know we have to be extra careful whenever we find ourselves on the run up to, or in the midsts of: Mercury Retrograde.
But what does it mean if you were born during one of these periods? To start with, it’s fairly common as Mercury moonwalks roughly 3-4 times per year about 3 weeks at a time. So not too remarkable. But it is still an interesting phenomena which impacts the native, especially if they have Gemini or Virgo in their big three.
It’s also worth taking into consideration a technique called secondary progressions as you may find yourself experiencing a retrograde period over a much longer period of time through your progressed chart (I’ll definitely have to cover this in another show).
Hopefully this episode will enlighten you on the ins and outs of Mercury’s meaning when moonwalking through the natal chart.

I know it's cliché, but I can't believe how quickly the time flies.
We are already saying goodbye (and good riddance) to 2021, and moving on to 2022 with high(ish) hopes that this year will be at least a little bit better than the last.
And by the looks of the astrology, it will be.
During this episode, I look at the North and South Node plus the Taurus–Scorpio eclipses, the FOUR Mercury Retrogrades of 2022, a brief look at the transpersonal planets: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, and the Jupiter–Neptune conjunction in Pisces which occurs in April.

As I always say, the elements and modes are key to understanding an individuals motivations and how they cope with challenge.
I had a fun and interesting chat with Maria Reigger about how to better relate to you children (or parents for that matter) using the elements as a gide for positive communication.
Maria and I circled a lot around Gemini, Scorpio and Capricorn because those signs are heavily present in our charts.

Maria Riegger is based in the Washington, DC area. She is a banking/corporate attorney by day (but please don't hold that against her), and an author by night.
Maria is a Gemini whose head has always been in the clouds. From a young age, she was scolded for not paying attention. When she was bored, she would make up stories in her head. She has been writing since she was about thirteen years old.
A rocky childhood, including the death of a parent, led Maria to consider how to be a better parent in a crazy world. In short, more laughs and positive connections and less dictating and criticizing. Parents should parent with the child's particular needs in mind, rather than the parents' ego needs.
An irreverent Gen X’er, in addition to parenting books, Maria writes gritty contemporary romance and romantic suspense, with plenty of sarcasm.

As part of my series on Ethical Practice I thought it was important to point out that even in non-astrological fields, there can be issues around abuses of power, and this can be a very dangerous time when in a particularly vulnerable time in your life.
I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine, Mel D, whose path I crossed in a very unusual way.
Mel and I both signed up to a counselling skills course a few years back where we found ourselves in a “classroom” that looked nothing like the one advertised on the website.
Not only that, but we were surrounded by people who all seemed to be in very vulnerable mental states, being tutored by a husband and wife team who seemed to wield some sort of power over them.
I used my tool kit as an astrologer to avoid signing the contract when I was under pressure to do so. However, Mel signed up and almost immediately regretted it.
What follows is the story of how we met, what happened on the course, and the shocking way she was treated when she realised she didn’t want to be part of the course anymore and wanted to nullify her contract.
Ultimately, what I wanted my listeners (and viewers) to take from this episode is that it is always worth taking your time when investing your time and money into a course with potential long-term study.
If the worst case scenario should occur (just like in Mel and my case) then you should not let a negative experience like this put you off, and to look out for the life lessons embedded in the experience, in order to grow and move forward in a more productive way.
And definitely, don’t give up on your dreams!

I’m hoping that If you’ve had a reading with a professional astrologer before, you’ll recognise the positive impact astrology reading can have – it’s an incredible tool which can help us to work towards becoming the best versions of ourselves in life. Astrology can raise our self awareness and and can make make sense of some of the chaos in life.
However, believe it or not there are occasions where astrology, and it's misuse can do more harm than good.
I am recording a few episodes on what happens when people abuse their position of power during a reading, but there is a sense of responsibility of the person having their chart read.
Firstly (and this is something that everyone learning astrology will experience) there are inexperienced astrologers, or those who are still learning who aren’t able to articulate the symbolism properly.
That’s not to say we shouldn’t be practicing as an aspiring astrologer, BUT it is very important that we are careful with the way we choose our words.
I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve had someone tell me very basic interpretations for my chart which have sounded very scary to me. Words can leave a lasting impression, they can linger in the mind and affect our decision making processes, they can alter the course of the future by inhibiting that persons ability to have faith in following a path they might have previously wanted to tread.
Then there are claims which can scare people completely unnecessarily, saying things like they can see how and when someone will die, for example.
Or in my case, having someone tell me that I will suffer miscarriages in pregnancy – honestly, I don’t know how certain people can see these outcomes in the chart? I know which aspects of my chart they are talking about, but they are taking very literal interpretations and it's as though they are making "predictions" to make themselves seem all-seeing and all-powerful.
It amazes me that people like to share scary and threatening information. If you wouldn’t tell your nearest and dearest something like that, then don’t volunteer this information someone seeking your help!
Accepting free readings from people claiming to be expert astrologers is another thing I advise you to avoid! Recognise that when something seems too good to be true, it probably is!
No one should be contacting you to chase you for readings, or asking you for money. All the best astrologers are credible and wouldn’t chase business. In fact they might even have a waiting list because they really are the real deal and their clients can vouch for this.
There are many ways to avoid having a bad experience and I cover a few in this episode. However, the main thing I would tell most people is that you should be selective about who you allow to read your chart. You shouldn’t feel pressured and you shouldn’t allow someone who is pestering you to read your chart either.
You can always ask for your astrologers credentials before booking in with them and you can also do a little bit of research about them online first.
I hope this episode enlightens you to the harm astrology can do and helps you to realise that there are ways to protect yourself from bad practice and ensure that you only have helpful exchanges with astrologers who take on a position of power during your readings.

My trip to India was something I was hugely excited about. It was a high point in my career as a 'young' astrologer. And true to expectations, I had an unforgettable experience which profoundly impacted me and the way that I practice astrology.
Sadly it wasn't a moment of enlightenment in the typical sense through detox and meditation.
Instead, I found myself at the mercy of the unwanted advances of a fellow 'professional' astrologer.
This experience taught me first-hand exactly how important it is to engage with your client on a professional level, and the damage you can inflict on an individual if you aren't aware of your own projections or agenda when entering the client-therapist interaction which is exactly what happens when you have a reading with an astrologer (whether you realise it or not).
I decided to share what happened to me in India hoping to raise awareness to the problems that can occur when professional and ethical standards aren't adhered to.
I hope none of you have ever experienced anything like this, but hopefully sharing my story will help you feel able to speak your truth, should you ever need to. Please share your stories of bad practice with me if you’ve ever heard or witnessed it!

In this fascinating episode of The a Stellium Astrology Podcast, I catch up with Wade Caves – an astrologer who started his journey around the same time as I did. Like myself, Wade sees clients and has branched into teaching.

Astrology is an ever-unfolding mystery, particularly our own natal charts which seem to constantly reveal aspects of our personality to us which had previously been hiding in our subconscious awareness.
But there will always be elements of our own natal charts which allude us, no matter how hard we research and try to understand them.
For example, planets in the 12th house are often very difficult for individuals to grasp, as are any planets which are aspected by dreamy, nebulous Neptune.

You’ve probably heard me mention a New Moon Wish List a few times during the podcast.
So what exactly is a New Moon Wish List? And why bother creating one?
Every 28 days, the Moon does a full revolution as she orbits the Earth leaving us with a few key dates falling on the first quarter, Full Moon, final (third) quarter and concluding and starting over at the New Moon.
So the New Moon can be seen as a point of closure and representing new beginnings at the same time. I suppose in the same way we might say, “as one door closes another door opens” you could liken this to the sense of the New Moon being connected to periods where you are ready to instigate new beginnings as well as sating goodbye to projects or periods in your life.
That is why it is particularly symbolic when there is a New Moon feeding into your natal placements particularly the luminaries and personal planets. Usually they are triggered into a new phase of their own and will plug into the seeding of the new phase which you will experiencing for yourself.
There are a number of reasons why I recommend getting into this monthly practice, but one of the main ones is because we are able to check in with our hopes, aspirations and the things on our mind, and tune our inner world with the outer one.
Though I think the New Moon is a good time for people to create a wish list, there are also times when you SHOULD NOT make a New Moon Wish List which I will explain in this episode.

Now this is a phrase I hear a lot when speaking to my students and clients.
It's pretty much the go-to mindset before people learn the depth of the craft, where nothing is really that black and white in astrology.
For example, the natal chart is you in all your glory, warts 'n' all. There are ore favourable and less desirable aspects of the personality. There are bits we can take ownership over, and those parts of ourselves that we project onto others.
But would we simplify ourselves and say we are good or bad? Not really.
That's like comparing Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown. They are two completely different films. Just because they were both made by Quentin Tarantino, doesn't mean they will be carbon copies of each other! In my opinion, they are both great films in their own right.
But I digress.
The point I'm trying to make is that each symbol in the natal chart holds a great variety of potential and we often express a multitude of these potentials in our lifetime.
So in a very long winded way, is having a stellium good or bad? Well you survived up until this point just being you and you're doing OK aren't you?
Stellia can be complicated, you can be very swayed to particular events, people, and situations in your life. It can be intense.
But it's who you are.

This week I decided to discuss what a stellium is in astrology.
You've probably heard of stellia (the plural name for them) as it's the name of this podcast! And it's likely you found my website or this podcast when googling "what is a stellium?" on the hunt for more information on this rather elusive and complicated spect pattern.
A stellium is when three or more planets congregate in the same sign or house in the horoscope. Such a concentration of planets can have quite an intense influence, whether natally or by transit.
What makes them difficult to interpret is that when planets get together by conjunction they tend to merge energies, influencing each other. The more planets that are involved, the harder it is to read them as a package.
This is likely because when learning astrology, we break things down individually and try to make sense of things in bitesize chunks. The the stellium comes along and asks us to jump ahead to that bit of the learning process where we try to bring it all together and make sense of the individual pieces of the puzzle as a whole.
But it doesn't invalidate your stellium if the planets are too wide for conjunction, it's still a heavily influenced area of your natal chart.

The Mystic Rectangle is another interesting aspect pattern which usually pops when you initially glance at the natal chart and is formed of two trines, two sextiles and two oppositions.
The way this pattern is organised differs from the kite as a Grand Trine isn’t involved, and there are TWO hard aspects in the shape of the opposition joining the corners of of the rectangle like a check box.
Relationships and interaction are going to be important roles in your life, but being connected by the trine and sextile aspects offers an extremely cooperative and encouraging connection with others, presenting as synchronicity, opportunity, and plugging in to the actionable friction of the oppositions involved.

The Yod is one of the more commonly known aspect patterns which has quite a bad reputation!
Yet again, another triangular chart shape which is again rather easy to recognise, the Yod is formed of three planets, two sitting in sextile from each other and completed by a third planet apexing at quincunx (a.k.a. inconjunct) the sextile planets.
So why does the Yod have a bad reputation? If you go 150° north and south of the ascendant, you’ll find yourself standing on the cusp of the 6th and 8th houses.
Both houses are associated with health issues, and sit at an angle of dis-ease with the ascendant. Generally this aspect isn’t felt in an obvious way. Some describe it as the stone in the shoe which can irritate for a long time and eventually cause a bigger issue.
Being connected by the sextile offers a more noticeable post to connect with these planets, however the planet sitting at the apex is definitely a sensitive point which cannot successfully communicate with either planet it is connected to in the Yod.
This really gives us an idea of how the quincunx feels, and offers some understanding of how it is thought planets relate to each other in the Yod.
There’s nothing terribly foreboding about a Yod, and it doesn’t indicate particularly magical mystical powers at all, and though it is also known as the finger of fate, it’s not really a point of fate. That’s more Saturn and Pluto’s domain!
The Yod however can indicate issues which go unnoticed for a long time and then suddenly surface, causing our focus to be shifted away from other areas of our life. This can come in the form of illness as previously mentioned, but if can be through failing to address the areas of our life indicated by the Yod. The planet and house will indicate the areas to focus on.
The key to working with the Yod is to be aware of it. It is very hard to consciously integrate this planetary formation, as previously mentioned, the quincunx acts like a light switch, only one planet can be in operation at any one time.
With this in mind it is important to familiarise yourself with all the planets in your Yod and think about how you can consciously pay attention to all sides of your triangle and try to integrate them a little every day.
It’s hard work but this process can help to draw these planets into your awareness and help you to work productively with them.

Mythologically speaking, Thor’s Hammer Mjölnir was one of the most powerful weapons ever crafted, forged by dwarves and gifted to God of Thunder, Thor.
Regular listeners will be aware of the frequency in which I talk about Marvel films, and for a long time I crushed hard on Chris Hemsworth! I even wrote an article about him for Star Sign Style!
Mjölnir is never too far to be drawn into Thor’s hands and he can use it to defeat his enemies as well as holding on to it and willing it to carry him from destination to destination. Only the worthy can yield the hammer.
Astrologically speaking, Thor’s Hammer is another triangular aspect pattern associated with the square, and considered an analytical aspect chart shape as it forces us into a ‘diagnostic’ problem solving perspective.
It’s not one of the more commonly known aspect patterns, but if you have one you’ll probably beware of the challenges which come from this dynamic configuration which seem to trigger a total change of direction in life.
According to AstroWiki, children with this aspect tend to be very hard to discipline and carry this personality trait into their adult lives as challengers of the status-quo.
This can give rise to Thor’s Hammer individuals being subject to criticism, most likely because they’re independent nature causes them not to do as they’re told!
This pattern is formed of two planets sitting at a 90° square to each other completed by a third planet which sits at a sesquiquadrates (a.k.a. Sesquisquare) 135° from each side of the square.
As the orb for a sesquiquadrate is no greater than 2°, it’s a rather precise aspect which when formed can have quite a powerful influence over the natal chart.
As these are all hard aspects, they create a sense of challenge to live with. The sesquiquadrate is a constantly uncomfortable aspect and the planet sitting at the apex point of this triangle which is the subject of both 135° aspects make this an unstable and sensitive point. When this is triggered by transit the instability of this planet can become obvious to the native.
This aspect pattern can indicate an adventurousness which forces a totally new path to be roamed rather than the tidy path that’s been carved out by others before you.

During this episode I announce the prize draw winners (better late than never) and also share some special news of my own with you all!
The Kite aspect pattern is formed a Grand Trine which has an opposition from one corner of the triangle to the opposite side of the chart, which sits at a sextile to the other two corners of the triangle. It looks as you’d imagine, like a kite or a diamond.
Not only is this a rather pretty looking aspect pattern to observe in the natal chart, it actually contains some of the more fortunate and free flowing components of the Grand Trine, while having the benefits of a hard aspect wired into it by the opposition.
Further to that, this pattern is then coaxed into productivity with two rather helpful sextiles.
As you should be aware by now if you’ve been tuning in for a while, planets at a trine have to be 120° apart, give or take 6° orb. Those at a sextile have to be 60° apart with a 4° orb, and those in opposition will be 180° apart with a wider orb of 8°. So for this aspect pattern to be possible, the planets involved have to sit within these orbit points quite accurately.
This is a kind’ve like a ‘new and improved’ Grand Trine. With the Kite we’re offered the fortune and flow of the Grand Trine, plus the challenge of the opposition which indicates relationships with others who can highlight differing perspectives, encouraging us to channel the complacency of the Grand Trine into something productive by pulling us out of our comfort zone.
The sextiles involved are in compatible signs, coaxing us to take up opportunities presented and tempting us with future potentials that appeal to us. As the hard aspect of the opportunity pushes us somewhat, the tendency to take up these opportunities is more likely and the work involved seems to be justified by the potential outcome.

The Grand Trine is related to —you guessed it—the trine aspect.
But this is a turbo-charged trine as it involves planets sitting in each of the related elements at around the same degree forming a triangle shape in the natal chart.
Just like the trine, the Grand Trine of planets is considered to be a harmonious aspect as the elements work with one another in a positive way. This aspect pattern also includes one of each of the modes, which in turn creates a sense of balance as it isn’t overrun with one type of quality which could challenge the flow of the energy.
Of course like any of the aspect patterns, if you have three planets at about 120° apart but with a slightly wider orb at the end or beginning of each of a sign, there is the potential for an unrelated element to be part of the aspect pattern.
This can then reduce the sense of flow about the aspect pattern, but does not prevent the positive communication between the planets. It might introduce a duplicated mode which could colour the ‘flavour’ of the trine and make it a bit ore noticeable.
I say noticeable because the challenge with this ‘positive’ or ‘harmonious’ aspect is that it provides no tension at all and someone with these aspects can find themselves unchallenged by the planets in this configuration, and quite possibly unaware of the potential contained in this aspect pattern.
They could be the type of person who coasts through life being in the right place at the right time, always showered with lucky moments and meetings which provide them with the good fortune many of us would envy.
This aspect pattern can promote a sense of inertia. Why push yourself if you don’t have to? Why work hard when opportunities land in your lap? Why take advantage of opportunities when you could just “Netflix and Chill” at home instead?

This is an aspect pattern which is much like the Grand Cross, but cut in half from corner to corner like a sandwich (am I writing when hungry again?!).
Two planets sitting in opposition to each other at 180° apart are pulled into a tense pyramid of power when a planet sits on the very top.
When connecting the lines from the middle of the opposition and the planet sitting at the mid-point, the letter T can be seen in the natal chart.
This planet which forms the tip of the planetary mountain – or volcano as I like to think of it – is also known as ‘the apex’ which is where the tension from the opposition is focussed and ejected.
Just like the grand cross, a T-Square will be formed of different elements, but will have the mode in common (unless the orbs are wide and are sitting at the end or beginning of signs that are in unrelated modes).
As with the opposition, relationships are implied, and with the square aspect there is an unavoidable internalised friction which cannot be ignored.
Like my counselling skills teacher says “relationships are the vehicle to change” and this is exactly the type of challenge instigated by this aspect pattern.
Much like the Grand Cross, this aspect pattern is very powerful. However, they only contain one opposition which feeds into a pyramidal apex which I feel mimics an active volcano.
The configuration seems to act as a planetary feedback loop which continues to cycle around and around spring lava from the apex.

When looking at the patterns in the centre of the chart which are formed by the aspects, there are patterns that appear which are formed when the planets come together to form larger configurations.
By coming together, I mean that they form patterns by sitting at degrees in the natal chart which form aspects which conjoin to make larger patterns which form a larger pattern in the chart.
These patterns are usually formed with planets and asteroids, but not usually with hypothetical or calculated points like the Ascendant or Midheaven, the Lunar Nodes, or Black Moon Lilith.
These patterns can be considered challenging or easy offering potentials for growth or good fortune in each of their expressions.
Some are more commonly known than others.
This week we are taking a look at the Grand Cross which is formed when there is a planet at the same degree, 90° apart in each of the related modes: Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable.
For example, if you have a planet at 15° of each of the Cardinal signs each planet will be 90° or 180° apart. This forms an aspect pattern that looks like a big square with a cross going from corner to corner.
As you may recall from the episodes on the square aspect and planets in opposition, there’s a lot of tension with planets that sit 90° apart. Oppositions are considered to have a tension as well, though not all oppositions have to be challenging, though they can be.
The Grand Cross is a volatile aspect pattern which creates a great amount of tension in the natal chart. This tension can be expressed productively, or coater-productively depending on the self-awareness of the native. I think of it as a Catherine wheel, with each corner of the square being activated when lit, causing this pattern to spin out of control. It has to burn out before it can slow down and each point of the aspect pattern feeds into itself and can trigger the other points very easily.
As with the opposition, relationships are implied, and with the square aspect there is an unavoidable internalised friction which cannot be ignored. In today’s episode I decided to take a look at the aspect, and elements/modes grids when casting a chart using astro.com in order to assess elemental and modal weighting in the natal chart, and also to understand how to read the aspects grid the natal chart ‘feels’.
This can be identified when looking at whether an aspect is applying, separating or is exact/partile.
Each aspect glyph is displayed in the aspects grid with a number and the letter A or S giving an indication to how soon (or recently) the aspect made it’s contact, and will give us a feel of how that person experiences the conversation between the planets in their chart.
Using Johnny Depp as an example, I demonstrate which elements and modes feature most heavily for him, and which are under-represented in the chart so we can get a feel for how he interacts with his environment, what motivates him and how he deals with conflict.
I also take a little look at how strong or weak the aspects are in contact with his Sun, and Venus and Mercury.

Their relationship with the luminary-ruled signs is the key to how they are assigned their nature, and exploring this will help you to understand the underlying feel of each of the aspects and how they reveal themselves natally, by transit or even through synastry giving a sense of how planets communicate with each other.

I would love to record an episode on each of the minor aspects, but there are a few time constraints which prevent me from doing this currently.
However, I have recorded an episode with a brief explanation of each of the minor aspects so you can familiarise yourself with this information and explore at your own leisure.
The most ‘major’ of the minors in my humble opinion is the quincunx which is an aspect I often look at in consultation.
But each of the minor aspects can uncover deeper aspects of the personality contained within the natal chart and they can also reveal hidden gifts which may not be immediately obvious, but upon exploring these in your own natal chart these rather specific but subtle planetary connections uncover another dimension of your personality.
There is a tighter orb for each of the minor aspects, at 2°-3° each, which means they have to be tight to apply.

So we’ve reached the end of our conversation about the major aspects, concluding with the 60° sextile.
The sextile might be considered ‘soft’ but is by no means a shrinking violet! This powerful aspect can open doorways of opportunity which can alter the course of your life forever, should you so recognise and take advantage of this moment of magic.
The sextile is a little more obvious than a trine. In fact it’s considered a ‘coaxing’ aspect so when we feel this opportunity knocking we need to recognise it and be open to the potential.
In the natal chart, when planets are within 60° of each other (give or take 4° orb either side) they are in a positive communication working harmoniously with one another, and can reach potentials they might not normally do on their own.
Planets that meet by sextile are often in complementary elements – for example Capricorn and Pisces (passive Cardinal Earth and Mutable Water signs) or Aries and Gemini (active Cardinal Fire and Mutable Air signs).
This can offer enough variety to tempt a productive expression of these planets through a positive communication between the elements and a modal relationship which encourages each other out of the rut of each modality.
For example, planets sextile from Pisces to Taurus can pull the other out of the mud of total fixity while providing some focus from the floundering of aimless mutability.
It is possible to have planets sextile to one another in conflicting elements like Fire and Water, but in the same mode. This happens when the planets are at the very end or beginning of a sign and have a wider orb. For example, Jupiter at 28° Sagittarius and the Moon at 1° Pisces.
You can see how this creates another way of complementing each other as now they are sharing a mode, though their elements aren't as comfortable working with one another.
For example, if your Ascendant ruler and Descendant ruler are sextile, this can indicate a sense of luck and opportunity when meeting other people who can help you on your way in many aspects of your life. In fact it can be a very lucky aspect to have in your romantic relationships, or at least describes many opportunities for you to enter into relationships with others (whether positive, or not-so in your life).
By transit, the sextile can open a window of opportunity which once passed could be the thing we kick ourselves for not taking – that chance we later come to regret for not seeing the fruits it had to offer at the time.
Or it could be a moment of "Yes" which opens up a pathway for us we’d never considered possible. A moment of synchronicity that just feels right.
The saying “Opportunity is a door marked push” particularly resonates for me with the sextile aspect.

We’ve covered the neutral and hard aspects now we’ve reached the mathematical sweet spot: the 120° trine!
The trine can be found by dividing the circle by three. What trines have in common are the fact they share the same element.
However, they share different modes. If you’ve covered the elements episodes then you’ll know that these signs are motivated and engage with their environment in similar ways. In essence they work harmoniously with each other.
(If you haven’t listened to the Elements and the Modes, definitely go back and have a listen!)
It is possible to have planets in trine to each other but in different elements. This happens when the planets are at the very end or beginning of a sign and have a wider orb (most astrologers use an orb of 6°-8° either side).
For example, you can have Pluto at 27° Libra and Mars at 1° Pisces which means this is an out-of-sign trine with Cardinal Air and Mutable Water communicating with each other.
This doesn’t weaken the power of the trine, but it does create a different style of communication between the planets by adding an extra layer of complexity to the expression.
Trines are considered a fortunate, lucky or ‘easy’ aspect, but unlike squares which encourage a proactive approach to problems, trines can promote a sense of complacency.
I know many people with trines in their natal charts who are aware and working consciously with them – usually because things just seem to happen synchronistically, there is an element of luck by being in the right place at the right time.
But when it comes to problem solving, trines can lie dormant. They don’t vie for attention in the same way a square can. In fact they just aren’t pushy at all!
However, when the planets communicate through the trine, it usually describes an easy and cooperative communication.
This is great if the planets are operating at their best – for example a Mercury–Saturn trine can indicate a positive relationship between methodical thinking, structured outlook, academic ability.
But people may have a natural gift for this and not need to push themselves in this area so they wouldn’t achieve as much as they might if they had a square between the same planets.

From dividing the circle by 0 for the conjunction or 2 for the opposition, division of the circle by 4 gives us the square.
This one's probably quite easy to comprehend as 360° divided by 4 gives 90° and anyone who was paying attention in junior maths will remember the right angle!
That’s basically what the square aspect is: planets sitting at the same degree in two signs that are 90° (a right angle) apart, give or take 8° orb either side.
Planets that are square to one another will be related by their associated mode (quadruplicity), but will be in a different element (triplicity) – unless of course they are on the cusp of a sign and not at the same degree. For example you could have Mars at 28° of Gemini and Venus at 1° Libra.
In this example, these planets are still square but are also slightly wide and straddling the cusp of two signs. This also means that they have different modes – Gemini is mutable air, and Libra is cardinal earth.
So this adds an extra layer of complexity to the expression – air and earth are active and passive elements both bustling for attention plus there's a conflict between the modes in the square – the mutability of Gemini and the cardinality of Libra (if you missed the shows on the elements and modes definitely check them out as they will greatly enrich your understanding).
Planets at a right-angle have a sense of friction – a call to action – which is hard to ignore. A phrase I like which describes the square is “the squeakiest wheel gets oiled first” – planets square each other are hard to ignore. They vye for our attention above all other aspects and force us to resolve issues and create solutions – after all, necessity is the mother of invention!
Squares can literally make us “think outside the box” where we meet challenge and have to work a little harder to get what we want.
You could view a natal square – for example between Mercury and Saturn – as the student who isn’t naturally academic so they have to work harder than someone who has a natural aptitude for academia.
The naturally gifted student who doesn’t struggle so much at school may become complacent and decide not to work as hard to get the results they are projected, and achieves a mediocre result which they settle for.
The individual projected poor results puts in the extra hours and puts themselves under extra pressure to perform better and not only improves their results, but also improves their attitude towards what is possible.
They may never resolve this inner conflict which can manifest as imposter syndrome, BUT this aspect creates a sense of mastery through repeated effort.
At worst, we could see the square as an obstacle that we keep tripping over which requires repeated effort if we wish to conquer it and reach our full potential.
At best, the square could be viewed as the aspect of constant improvement, which always challenges us to question our efforts and push just that little bit harder.

When planets are in aspect with one another in the natal chart, they create a dialogue which expresses itself in multiple ways in your life experience.
Each aspect varies depending on the number of degrees apart and the ‘orb’ or ‘wiggle room’ you allow if they don't sit perfectly in alignment with one another.
Last week we took a look at the conjunction which is when two or more planets meet at or around the same degree in the same sign (or in very close proximity to each other straddling two neighbouring signs).
This week we are discussing the opposition (psst – the clue's in the name!) this is where planets are in a stand off against each other in opposing signs. Sometimes they sit at the end of one sign and the beginning of another but not perfectly opposite each other in opposite signs – you could view it like a see-saw or tug of war.
The circle is divided by 180° as each planet in this stand off is opposite each other in direct view of one another. In this ‘Full Moon’ position, these planets have the ability to highlight each other.
Again, 8° either side is considered acceptable orb, though if the Luminaries are involved, or an expansive planet like Jupiter, you could be more generous and include a few extra degrees.
As planets can be characters in the play of our natal chart, planetary see-saws can indicate where we have interactions with others where each side is representative of each party in the communication.
And it isn’t a given that you’ll always play the same role in the opposition – you’ll experience both sides of the see-saw at various points in your life – you could switch between them on a daily basis!
What is indicated is that relationships will play a key role in your personal development and as we have experienced on our walk through the houses, the opposing signs and houses are related to one another.
Planets that sit in polarity to one another can introduce an enhanced experience of the principle that opposites attract, and also the sense that opposites may embody the qualities the other is lacking, providing a sense of completion when together.

In their movement around the natal chart, the planets pass through each degree of the zodiac – some more quickly than others.
When planets sit at certain degrees in the natal chart which resonate with planets at other degrees in the chart there can be a communication between each planet which colours their expression in your natal chart and life experience.
During today’s show we are exploring the conjunction aspect – when planets are at or around the same degree (give or take 8° of ‘orb’ meaning orbit).
A good way of thinking about this is as though the planets are holding hands, or conjoined like siamese twins!
We all experience an obvious conjunction every month when the Sun and Moon meet each month in the New Moon position, the conjunction begins when the Moon is 8° behind the Sun, and the conjunction finishes when he is 8° ahead of the Sun.
So, if the Sun was at 8° Cancer, then the Moon would be in conjunction between 0° to 16° of Cancer.
Planets in conjunction don’t really operate on an individual basis, they're so close to each other they don’t really notice the influence they have over each other.
As Sue Tompkins describes in The Contemporary Astrologer's Handbook, it’s like two bells ringing: the closer they are, the more in-time they chime with one another, the farther apart they are, the more you experience of a delay between each bell ringing.

Just before I move away from the houses discussion, I want to briefly discuss a different way of dividing the chart and viewing the houses.
By dividing houses into their associated mode or quadruplicity, the houses fall into three categories:
- Anglar
- Succeedent
- Cadent
The houses that line up with the angles: 1, 4, 7 & 10 are considered Angular houses which have a sense of cardinality, action and 'getting stuff done' about them. They're the fast-moving, action oriented power-points of the horoscope.
The houses that follow: 2, 5, 8 & 11 are the Succeedent houses which have a sense of fixity about them, a slow, focussed and accumulating energy. They're the building houses of the horoscope which are powerful, though not as power-packed as the angular houses.
The remaining houses, 3, 6, 9 & 12 are the Cadent houses which have a mutable feel about them, with a sense of fluidity, going with the flow, and a dispersed output. These are the transitional low-power areas of the horoscope.
Viewing the houses with this added dimension adds to the understanding and art of interpretation.
For example: with Aries on the cusp of the 2nd house, you can still have a slow and considered approach, or perhaps the desire to build and accumulate in this area of your life, but you’ll approach these matters in an Aries way.
You can still apply these rules when using equal house division (rather than a system like Placidus), and where the 'floating MC' falls will give you further detailed clues to the type of work you do and what you are known for.

There are two types of cusp in Astrology: sign cusps and house cusps.
The interesting thing is that sign cusps don’t technically exist, where as house cusps are really important!

We’ve made it! We’ve taken a walk around the twelve houses of the horoscope exploring the relationship between the dualities of the houses.
And now we find ourselves concluding our journey at the points of service and resignation: the 6th and 12th houses.
This sixth house is where we find our routine, our personal patterns that we can settle into. It’s where we go out into the world and make a personal contribution, and where we go to work to pay the bills.
It is also where we meet the people we see as part of our daily routine including colleagues, and can describe some of the issues we face through our working relationships.
On the opposite side of the horoscope, the unboundaried 12th house is where we reach a point where we no longer wish to participate in Earthly matters and get ready to return to the source we came from.
It’s not good enough to work for selfish reasons, in the 12th house we want to offer ourselves selflessly to humanity and the collective cause.
We do need to be careful that we don’t pass up opportunities and sabotage ourselves by being too trusting – this is the area of the chart which describes the type of self-sabotage we engage in, and also where we don’t recognise when people DON’T have our best interests at heart.

The Spice Girls said it best: “If You Wannabe My Lover, You’ve Gotta Get With My Friends”
The 5th house–11th house polarity primarily deals with friends and lovers, and our unique individual talents and how we find our place in the world.
Here we are, peering at the 5th house and 11th house, learning about our personal individuality and what makes us stand out from the crowd, and how we can use our unique talents to share with our friends and community.
The 5th house is a place where we indulge in our passions, and do the things that make our heart sing. In life, it is the stage where we become independent from our families and discover what makes us happy regardless of other people’s approval.
This is the house related to creativity. Though each sign of the zodiac has it’s own type of creativity, the 5th house is where we learn how to tap into the people, places and activities which make our little light within, shine. It is also activities where we can develop our own unique creativity, including the ultimate creative act of all: sex.
On the opposite side of the horoscope, the 11th house is a place of friendships, social connections and community. It’s where we find people who share our visions and goals, and join up as a team to execute our shared plans, and describes the places where we will meet these people and have these experiences.

We’ve made it halfway through our journey around the houses and find ourselves at the 4th and 10th house polarity also known as the Midheaven and Immum Coeli, stretching up to the top of the heavens, and reaching down to the bottom of the heavens respectively.
Also known as the parental axis as well as the home and career polarity, it is here where we settle into our roots and find a sense of belonging through our past and our comfort zone, and also where we look up and stare up at our role models and the people we aspire to emulate in the future.
The depths of the 4th house and IC are the psychological basement and our most subconscious realm. So this is where we may discover experiences where we allow our auto-pilot to kick in.
But this may not always be a welcome survival mechanism – how we relate to this untapped realm is revealed by the IC/4th house and the planets that we find there, whether productive or not.
On the flip side, the 10th house and MC (Midheaven) is where we are our most public, and displays the qualities we are happy for the world to know about us.
Planetary transits to this polarity can shape who we are and leave a lasting impression on the MC.
But this simple explanation of the MC/IC axis really doesn’t do these houses any justice – like the entire subject of astrology, it’s a lifetime of in-depth study when you really sink your teeth into it.
However, I’ve done what I can to highlight some of the more interesting facets of the MC/IC axis for you to explore in your own charts and I’ve discussed a subscriber chart, too!

Moving out of the possessive and pinned-down 2nd & 8th houses we progress into the foot-loose polarity of the 3rd & 9th houses – areas of ideas and visions which inspire us to learn, teach, equip and reach for bigger and better things.
Knowledge is power and this see-saw offers us the experiences to form opinions, develop ourselves and aim higher in life.
These houses describe the places where we learn as we gather knowledge, develop and grow in youth and adolescence, and also where we go to develop ourselves and our particular interests and specialities as adults.
But this may not be confined to specific learning venues as such – these houses describe places where we expand our consciousness through travel, adventure and meaningful experiences.
In fact, these houses describe the places where we ‘find ourselves’ as our horizons broaden through education and experiences which teach us all about ourselves.
Networking, broadcasting and sharing a message is key for planets found in these areas as we make sense of the world and build a sense of meaning in the world around us. Meaning which is personal to us.
Life is one long lesson!

Following on from last week’s episode, the 2nd and 8th houses in the horoscope reveal in further depth the development of self, our possessive natures and the complexities of commitment.
On this part of the journey around the horoscope we learn about the polarities between personal and shared values and how much we invest in others vs how much we are prepared to invest in ourselves.
These houses are associated with wealth and security. They are also about confidence and willingness to develop ones-self through building existing skills, access to other people’s resources, and adorning ourselves and our surroundings with objects which represent value to us. Why? Because you’re worth it!
Currency is symbolic of the energetic essence of trade. Therefore the second and eighth houses represent not only the material aspects of financial exchange, but also the willingness to exchange ‘currency’ for deed, and the essence of promises, commitments and debt, whether financial, energetic or spiritual.
The saying “there’s no such thing as a free lunch” can be applied to this polarity because wherever you receive there’s space for you to give – try as we might, It’s impossible to pour from an empty jug.
Getting a bit deep? Well, this is the place where deep reflection occurs. Whereas the second house is concerned with building self-worth, financial security and our personal value system, the eighth house is more concerned about crystallising connections, exploring the mysteries of the human condition and the destruction of superficiality.

In this week’s episode I discuss the ascendant and descendant, also known as the relationship axis.
The ascendant is directly opposite the Descendant and the connecting line between these two points marks the horizon where we see the Sun rise in the East and set in the West. This is why the ascendant is also known as the rising sign.
The Ascendant is one third of the “Big Three” (the Sun and Moon making up the other two thirds) making it a pretty big deal in astrology.
It says a lot about who we are and how we approach the world, revealing various aspects of our personality, outlook, appearance, birth and early life, and how we appear to and interact with others.

Mesmerising Pluto takes 248 years to do one revolution around the Sun.
Not a single one of us will live long enough to experience our own Pluto return, and our children won’t live long enough to witness that date, either!
America, on the other hand, is currently experiencing her first Pluto return since the declaration of independence was signed back on the 4th of July 1776.
Just because we won't see our own Pluto return, doesn’t mean we won’t feel the impact of Pluto in our lives at one point or another.
In fact, depending on your planetary placements you may already have a pretty good understanding of the impact, planetary wrecking-ball Pluto can have.
If like myself, you’ve had Pluto transit any one of your planets, you’ll have been taken into the underworld and experienced the challenges and riches it has to offer.
In fact, due to the nature of planetary timing we all experience the Pluto Square at about 36-61 years of age (one quarter of his orbit from his natal position in your chart) which is a period of personal regeneration.
Pluto transits revel a darker undercurrent, a period where we have to be authentic and truthful with ourselves, and accept things that are beyond our control.
Also known as the higher octave of Mars, Pluto’s presence in our charts and relationship to other planets can also indicate where we have astute observational abilities, where we feel drawn to the darker, hidden aspects of life, and are tempted by the forbidden fruits of taboo.
Pluto transits can make us feel awakened, alive and full of vitality. They can also take us to hell and back.

At 59 minutes I say "the Descendant describes our journey into the world and the birth process" this is not true. What I meant to say was The Ascendant! I obviously got myself muddled in a cloud of Neptunian confusion!
Dreamy Neptune takes 164.8 years to orbit the Sun. It will never return to it’s natal position in our lifetime.
But that doesn’t mean we won’t feel the impact of Neptune in our lives at one point or another.
In fact, depending on your planetary placements, you may already have a pretty good understanding of the solar system's intangible planet and what to expect when he seeps into your life!
In fact, due to the nature of planetary timing we all experience the Neptune Square at about 40-41 years of age – one quarter of his orbit from his natal position in your chart.
This is a time where we have to be softer with ourselves, exercise compassion and avoid self-destructive hobbies in favour of developing a deeper spiritual connection – it isn’t always as simple as that, though.
Our natal placement of Neptune can indicate where we feel victimised or want to save others, where me might wish to avoid responsibility, or struggle to implement healthy boundaries.
Also known as the higher octave of Venus, Neptune’s presence in our charts and relationship to other planets can also indicate where we have poetic or creative ability, how we show compassion and where we yearn for something more than the fruits of material existence.

Ringed-Planet Uranus has an erratic spin which means he is on his side as he orbits the Sun. Perhaps this is part of the quirkiness which lends to his reputation as a bit of an unconventional odd-ball planet.
Uranus transits aren’t as feared as Saturn transits. However, they can have a big impact which can bring on enormous change, both internally, externally, and collectively.
This can prompt awakenings triggered by “eureka” moments and is considered the higher octave of cognitive Mercury.
Due to the speed of the transpersonal planets, we all have similar transits during our mid-life which impact us all around the same age, much like the Saturn Return at age 29.
Uranus takes 84 years to do a full revolution around the Sun, and at around the age of 42, all of us go through the Uranus opposition or half-Uranus cycle as it also known. Most people will recognise this transit as the “mid-life crisis” where we do all sorts of crazy things like walking out on relationships after many years or quitting a job, getting a tattoo and buying a flashy sports car.

Planet Venus is one of very few female deities in our solar system, heralded for her beauty and diplomacy.

You may have heard about a 13th Zodiac Sign called Ophiuchus, the Serpent Bearer (between Scorpio and Sagittarius).
Stories of the "13th Zodiac sign" do the rounds every couple of years and I get lots of emails and messages from people freaking out that their zodiac sign is wrong, and their whole life is a lie!
How could astrologers have missed something so huge?
Is there truth to this rumour and what does this mean for the credibility of astrology as an ancient craft practiced by modern astrologers in this current day and age?
To Create Your Chart with Opiuchus on astro.com:
- Go to Extended Chart Selection
- In Chart drawing style select Astrodienst Fixed Stars in Sections
- Select the Sidereal button and choose Krishnamurti (0°59) from the drop-down in the Options for Zodiacs and houses menu
- Select Click here to show chart
Below is my sidereal natal chart which displays Ophiuchus and gives me a Taurus Ascendant, Sagittarius Sun and Libra Moon (instead of my Gemini Ascendant, Capricorn Sun and Scorpio Moon using the tropical Zodiac!)
To change your settings back ensure the Chart type is Natal Chart Wheel, and the Zodiac* selected is Tropical*.
