The guys are excited to discuss the rich theological truths that Webb presents, but the conversation takes a theological and emotional turn as they reflect on Webb's recent deconversion. The trio talks about how to know/define who is a saint, and they try to balance the duality of God's sovereignty with humanity's responsibility. J, Matthew & Caroline interview one of the original Christian rappers, SFC’s Soup the Chemist, about their ground breaking album Phase III. Soup shares how he came to Christ and the theme of this controversial album. He also compares the social climate of 1992 (the album’s original release date) with today’s volatile social landscape. He speaks hard words to the church about their role in racial reconciliation, and then shares his thoughts on the state of Christian Hip-Hop, a genre that he pioneered.
In today’s episode J introduces Matthew and Caroline to S.F.C., a group of pioneers in the Christian Hip Hop game. Phase III gives us a glimpse into how rap was evolving as an art form and how Christians were utilizing it to proclaim Christ and address social issues.
In this episode Caroline shares one of her favorite bands, The Gray Havens, with J and Matthew. A Christian folk pop duo, The Gray Havens presents listeners with narrative driven lyrics reminiscent of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. The podcast trio discusses their 2016 album Ghost of a King, an album filled with imagery of a heavenly kingdom with a just King who reigns over it.
