Season 7, Episode 7 - On Purposefully Becoming The Footnanny - Gloria L. Williams, President/CEO, Footnanny, Inc.
About GloriaGloria L. Williams got her big break when Oprah Winfrey discovered her magic touch and chose her as her personal pedicurist. And it was Winfrey who encouraged the professional nail tech to follow her heart for the “sole” and create Footnanny, her own brand of premium foot creams, soaking salts, essential oils, kits and accessories.
But the story of Footnanny goes all the way back to Williams’ childhood in the suburbs of Chicago. There, she would accompany her Montgomery, Alabama-born mother, a natural healer, on rounds to give ailing neighbors old-fashioned rubdowns using homemade botanical creams and lotions. “My mother truly believed you could improve overall wellness through the feet. She did that through a combination of touch and aromatherapy, and at her side, I learned to do what she did,” says Williams, who later became a licensed pedicurist and certified reflexologist.
“I wanted to create a line of products that would deliver a holistic experience beyond the basic pedicure,” says Williams of her Footnanny line of premium foot creams, soaking salts, essential oils, accessories and kits.

Season 7, Episode 3 - Inspiring All Human Beings To Be Their Greatest Possible Selves, Inside + Out - Mike Simone, Fitness Entrepreneur
About Mike
It was at some point in 2009, when I sat at my desk at The New York Times, in between sales calls, I decided I needed a change. Fitness, nutrition, health, surfing, and travel were my passions. I asked myself everyday, "how could I do something with that while also helping a lot of people? "
I took to Facebook and started to write short motivational thoughts that came to mind, posted images during my workouts, and shared my favorite (but oftentimes, boring, meal choices). Once I started seeing such a positive response to what I was doing, I decided I wanted to build a site and blog. But, I didn't just want this to be a blog about "Mike working out." I wanted to promote and lift up others in the industry.
It started small, but slowly more and more people joined on and started contributing in different capacities. (And I'm forever grateful for their efforts and enthusiasm.)
After joining MEN'S FITNESS magazine's digital team (2012-2017), many of the contributors began producing content and being featured on MENSFITNESS.com. This was a home-run for building audience, traffic, and views. (See the "Leadership" tab for specific growth numbers.)
Over the course of what is approaching a decade, the HUMANFITPROJECT brand has brought together trainers, models, athletes, nutritionists, outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, videographers, and designers to create HUNDREDS of workout programs and healthy lifestyle-related content.
The brand currently serves a quickly growing audience of 300,000+ followers and an email subscriber list just shy of 20,000.

Gregory Clifton Smith
Becoming an educator was a natural transition after being a City Planner with the NYC Parks Department Street Tree Division and the Supervisor of Horticulture at the Bronx Zoo. The most logical transition into education was becoming a Career and Technical Education instructor at the Philadelphia School District’s W. B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences. Additionally, I've worked in the food and wine service industry at the acclaimed Standard Hotel’s Standard Grill in New York City and Robert Mondavi's Woodbridge Estates in California. Currently, I am a Career and Technical Education teacher with a focus on Natural Resources Management and Food Science at the largest secondary Agriscience program in the United States, which also houses the largest single-school chapter of the FFA.
I'm a multifaceted educator who likes to bring everything to the table when educating and influencing my students’ involvement in learning. I believe learning can be both educational and entertaining, which is why I construct multimedia STEAM-based lessons that employ creativity, real-world experiences, and active learning opportunities that are coherent, cohesive, and connected to 21st Century skills. The foundation of my teaching pedagogy is to create engaging project-based learning experiences, rooted in real-world experiences and focused on developing essential skills like communication, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving in order to prepare my students for life after graduation.
My educational background includes a Bachelor’s in Environmental Science from Hampton University, a Master of Environmental Studies from the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Science, and I am currently working on a Career and Technical Education certification and a second Master at Temple’s School of Education. Additionally, I have been recreationally trained in photography, video production, and multimedia at Delta College in Stockton, California. As evident by my academic past and present, I truly enjoy learning, and subsequently through my current experiences as Saul High School, I have learned I am a great instructor. In 2020, I was acknowledged by the School District of Philadelphia as a 2020 Lindback Award winner for Distinguished Teachers.

Seventh grade was the worst year of Kelly’s life.
She was awkward and uncool, bullied, and most days she just wanted to disappear.
Through education and the unwavering support of strong role models, Kelly was able to find her voice. Today, more than 25 years removed from middle school, she works to help young girls overcome those same experiences.
A public relations executive by trade, Kelly has served as senior communications counsel to some of the nation's most influential, female chief executives. Additionally, as founder and president of The Girl Power Agency, a full-service, female-focused message innovation agency, Kelly has worked with and crafted messages on behalf of vulnerable women and girls, most notably advising and advocating for one of the nation’s preeminent leaders in the fight to end child sex trafficking and exploitation. Through that work, Kelly observed how girls from high risk populations, with low self- esteem and limited access to resources and role models were particularly susceptible to predators who made them feel beautiful for the first time.
Today, as the founder of selfE box and its nonprofit sister program, Glam4Grades, Kelly is on a mission to ensure that no more girls feel too awkward to achieve, and to protect the lives of young futures that have yet to be written.
Kelly is a Leadership instructor at her alma mater Spelman College and holds a Master’s in Public Communication from American University. A noted essayist and public speaker, she is a passionate advocate for the advancement of women and girls.
Kelly believes that education is the great equalizer and a strong sense of self-worth, beauty and dignity is an appreciable motivator.
By bringing those ideals together, Kelly hopes to inspire all girls to believe that Brilliance Is Beautiful!

Marsha Page is a New York Emmy Nominated, makeup artist and beauty expert, with experience in film, television, editorial, theater, special effects, bridal and fashion.
She discovered her passion for make-up artistry in the late 1990's. As a recent college grad, pursuing a career in the legal industry, her passion came to light when she was looking for ways to mask her recent weight gain. She began to use make-up as a way to empower herself and take the focus off her body and direct it to enhancing the features of her face. Prior to that, she had only filled in her brows with eyebrow pencil, put on eyeliner, and applied lip balm. While exploring and researching various makeup product lines, and experimenting daily, she discovered a talent for makeup application, despite the fact that she had no formal training at the time.
After training at the prestigious Christine Valmy International School of Esthetics and Makeup Artistry in New York City, Marsha began her love affair with make-up artistry working for industry leader, M.A.C. Cosmetics.
In 2003, she founded Marsha's Makeovers, Inc., (www.marshasmakeovers.com) a professional makeup artistry company, dedicated to empowering women by helping them realize their BEAUTY, POWER & CONFIDENCE.
Marsha’s work has been seen at the Tribeca Film Festival, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Bridal Fashion Week, Harper's Bazaar Serbia and Parents Magazine. She was also the Makeup Department Head at BRIC TV for various programs including HealthBeat Brooklyn, hosted by Dr. Monica Sweeney and BK Live!, a daily lifestyle and culture talk show which reaches an audience in all 5 boroughs of NYC. In addition to being a regular freelance artist at NBC Universal and FOX News Channel, Marsha is currently working as a Makeup Artist for the hit television series, God Friended Me, airing Sundays on CBS.

Born to Thomas Delano Walker, Sr. and Diane Walker on April 20, 1986. He was blessed to have two parents who loved, supported and guided him. Most importantly, they had expectations for his life. They expected him to choose a path that brings him joy. During a character defining conversation with his dad he told him to be undeniably good at whatever it is that he chose to do in life. Be so good that even if people don’t like you, they have to work with you because you represent excellence. These words he cannot forget. They have been the source of much motivation in his life.
Tommey has always been aware that excellence was a by-product of hard work. He was never afraid to put in the work required for his desired outcome. In elementary school he would sale his toys and song lyrics to his classmates. He would stand out in front of the grocery store and take groceries of the elderly to their car or to the senior citizen home around the corner. He got his first job at the hands of a mentor at his church working at A#1 detailing car shop at the age of twelve. He was suspended from high school once a month for selling candy throughout the school. He worked on the corner of six mile and Woodward as a cashier at a candy store; He sold bootleg CDs and DVDs. He had a gutter cleaning business that his friend and he started; his father made them stop because they were operating without insurance. He taught himself Photoshop with the aid of a mentor and opened up a freelance design company while still in high school. He was hired to create party flyers, album artwork, and posters for all of the aspiring entertainers in the area at that time. He worked with the most prestigious printing and design companies in Detroit. Def Jam, Interscope and Jive outsourced him while still in college. He branded and worked on design teams of many artists in the industry as well as businesses. Tommey has always worked hard toward living in his truth and toward his dreams.
Tommey’s dedication to his vision and commitment to hard work lead him to become his own boss at the age of 25. In 2012 he became the owner and creator of Detroit VS Everybody. Detroit VS Everybody was introduced as an apparel line but has been adopted by citizens as the cities motto. In five short years, Detroit VS Everybody, also known as DVE, has grown from an online retail store, to six storefront locations. Tommey owns Saluki Printing, a manufacturing company that prints for DVE as well as many companies and brands throughout the country; as well as world-wide recognition through the ever expanding the VS. Everybody brand. His brands are proudly known for their authentic connection with the people and being able to connect with the old and the young alike. Not many brands can do that.
He is no overnight success. His relationship with God, his families support, the insight and direction of mentors, his innate spirit of hard work and hustle, and his desire to leave a legacy for all those who are inspired by him and his works have made him who he is today.

Dia Bryant's interests in education sparked when she was just four years old, but her passion was set a full blaze upon setting foot in a New York City classroom in 2004 when she began her first year as a New York City Teaching Fellow. After serving in the capacities of teacher, math coach and new teacher trainer, Dia realized she had a growing appetite for solving complex problems in communities that mirrored life in her hometown, Detroit. Urban education would serve as an integral part of life for eight years before she founded and led Vista Academy in 2013, a middle school serving East New York Brooklyn focused on quality academics and character education.
Though many children thrived in Dia's classrooms, she found it hard to ignore the deep-seated inequities that created variance across districts, neighborhoods, schools, and classrooms. These inequities often served as the root cause of poor student achievement, large amounts of teacher turnover, punitive discipline practices, low expectations, and inherently opportunity gaps. These factors drove her to continue her studies, and has inspired her to more deeply center courageous equity, in pursuit of excellent schools. Most recently she sees racial and socioeconomic integration an integral lever for change in human capital, systems design, curriculum, and disciplinary practices.
Upon Graduation in 2020, Dia intends to impact a major American city in her quest to create diverse and equitable learning environments for children, adults, families, and communities.

We've entered the Season Of Giving and for a lot of people, this time is a reminder of loneliness, family breakdowns and hopelessness. In today's episode I chat with my bonus dad, Mr. Jorge Mateo about his spiritual + life awakening, how he reconciled his sense of hope, purpose, family and forgiveness all while deciding to get the help he needed in recovery. There's hope and I believe Mr. Mateo's story brings you a newfound sense of restoration and support.
About Mr. Jorge Mateo - I grew up in Spanish Harlem. I had a wonderful childhood - my mom made sure I went to church. When I was about 17, my dad bought my mom a house in Puerto Rico. I stayed behind to continue my schooling. I quit right before I graduated. I started hanging out with the wrong crowd and did my will. My will got me into trouble. At some point I ended up in the hospital in NYC. When I came out my dad told me to visit my mom in Puerto Rico. That's where I met my wife. We had 3 children. I retired from the Department of Sanitation. God has blessed me in so many ways and for that I am truly grateful.

About Kent Edwards:
I was born 12/4/1977 in Elizabethtown, KY and immediately placed for adoption due to circumstances involving race. My biological mother did not believe that she or her family could provide the type of support that a biracial (black/white) child would need. I was in foster care 14 months and adopted in February of 1978. My parents, both ordained ministers, had a miscarriage and afterward didn’t think they could conceive. However, during the adoption process they got pregnant with my little sister who was born two months after I came to live with them. Wow, talk about an instant family!
My sister and I grew up in Lynchburg, VA. I was a bit of a problem child, but was blessed with parents whose unconditional love showed no boundaries. Sports and physical activity were my outlet and where I excelled. School never came to easy for me, but it was mainly because of my short attention span. I was good enough in baseball to receive an athletic scholarship. In the fall of 2000 I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan with a BA in History with a bulk of my studies focused on civil rights. A week after my last class, my father and I drove to KY to petition for my birth and adoption records and start “the search.” The process took a great deal of time but about a year and a half later I finally received my records. I now had quite a bit of info about my biological mother that included her name, SSN, DOB, last known address, etc. However, I was only given my biological father’s name and last known address. The search was not near as easy as I thought it would be. At the time I was unaware of how crucial all of the information about both of them truly was.
I began teaching elementary school shortly thereafter in northern VA. Five years later I moved to NYC to pursue my modeling and acting career more seriously. Because of my love of movement and activity I also began personal training as a supplemental income. The acting/ modeling thing was fun, but it was not truly fulfilling. Not to mention it required a great deal of sitting and thats just not me. From there my passion for movement and training (coaching and teaching) grew! I currently work full-time as a personal trainer.
Just a little over eleven years ago, with the help of a private investigator, I was able to locate the maternal side of my biological family. The initial contact with my grandmother was not the most pleasant, but over time things changed and she began to accept and love me. I found out from grandmother that I was a secret that only she and my mother (who passed roughly 20 years before) shared. I learned that I was indeed placed for adoption due to my race even though my father’s side wanted to keep me.
This past summer, at the strong suggestion of a dear friend, I decided to do a DNA test to explore my genealogy and perhaps find my biological father. I received the results on 7/27/18 and began sending emails to all of my closely shared DNA matches. I committed to working a minimum of one hour per day researching from a large list of data bases and sending emails to my DNA matches. On 8/11 a new DNA match popped up on the website and I remember thinking how much my cousin and I resembled one another. I immediately emailed him and a few days later he replied. Low and behold on 8/14 my life changed forever... I found my biological father! We met on 8/24 at his home in Chicago. I am the second oldest of my four siblings. On 10/27 we had a family reunion at my cousin’s home just outside of San Francisco. There is much more to this story, but keeping it simple it is all love! Meet Adriano Zago. I am a consultant and teacher in biodynamic agriculture, specialized in viticulture and enology.
Biodynamic agriculture in my opinion it’s a practical method which allows to obtain more fertile grounds, healthier plants, food and wine as much closest to a correct evolution of the human thought.
I have gained many different experiences all around the world as a consultant and as a teacher in biodynamic agriculture; more and more I take care of vineyards and of the wine itself.

“Well-versed versatility” how better to describe the sound of Hilton ‘Deuce’ Wright II. The platinum record producer, songwriter, and composer embraces the perfect blend of what has been, is and will forever be amazing in music. Getting his start in the church choir and school band in the suburbs of Detroit, this music man has already proven himself to be a flawless gem in the Motor City’s crown. In the early 2000s he teamed up with his cousin Brian to form the production duo WrighTrax. As a unit, the two cut their teeth by helping craft the sound of an unknown and unsigned Big Sean. The musical results secured the artist’s deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music and subsequent deal with Def Jam.
Drawing inspiration from such musical giants as Michael Jackson, Rick Rubin, Quincy Jones and J. Dilla, to name a few, enables him to keep an un-capped, fresh approach to his music. To date, Hilton has had the great fortune of producing/writing for artists such as: Mike Posner, Big Sean, Sofia Reyes, Mr. Hudson and the cast of the hit abc TV show black•ish as co-producer/composer of the song “Juneteenth” performed in the season four premiere. In addition to a host of other prominent and up-and-coming artists, he’s also had the opportunity to score advertisements for such major corporations as Ford, Wal-Mart, Jeep and Corona.
Currently based in Los Angeles, CA, with his wife Maria, Hilton has a goal to be more than just a producer or songwriter…he strives to be “a change agent who will better the world through music.”
