Essentially, I'm a guy who lived 35 years of his life believing that if you were basically a good person, you'd probably go to heaven. It was August of 1992 and my childhood best friend invited us to Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara. After that, we never missed a Sunday service or a mid-week service. This podcast is the product of a lot of people asking me a lot of questions over the years. I’ve had a lot of encouragement that these have been a blessing or been used as a tool to converse with non-believers. I hope this encourages you to dig deeper for the hidden beauty for yourself. Join us as we finish up the book of Yahudah or Jude. In interesting little book that covers a lot of ground and is as important today, maybe more important, than it was for the early Jewish believers. It was interesting that at the same time Kepha or Peter was writing exactly the same words and warning about exactly the same things, ditto with Rav Shau-al’, teacher Paul, and others.
Clearly the new church was facing a wave of false teachers and only 35 years after the Crucifixion. Yahudah’s warnings were clear and important, False teachers have twisted, Yahuha’s Words, lied to many and convinced them of things simply not true, and are shipwrecking the faith of many.
As the day of Y’shua’s return draws nearer it becomes more and more important to understand the truth of all of God's words, not just a small part, in order to make a half-truth and sell some tapes.
Join us as we take a look at some current hot topics and then continue our study in the Book of Yahudah (Jude).
Join us as we begin a walk through the tiny book of Yahudah or Jude to most. Yahudah was a half-brother to Y’shua and like Ya’akov (James) eventually came to understand that Y’shua was the promised savior of the world.
In this book we hear the anguish in his writing as he exhorts the brethren, to earnestly contend for the faith that was previously delivered to them. False teachers had infiltrated the church and were spreading damnable heresies to draw the brethren away from the Word of God.
While there had always been idol worshippers and false religions, and many had been drawn to them, to the peoples hurt, they had been outside the walls of the church and the people of God. But now they were inside the walls teaching in the churches and many were unable to decern the truth.
This is a warning for the brethren then and now, the situation has only become worse today and almost everywhere you turn is someone trying to separate us from the truth of Gods Word.
It is a message most do not want to hear and will make many angry, which makes it a vitally important message in these last days to hear and understand. We too must earnestly contend for the real truth delivered by Y’shua and well before, and not believe the lies told almost everywhere.
Join us this week as we have a quick look at why we celebrate the Sabbath and the feasts and other important days when we do, and why there should be no confusion about the dates, after a few words about this week’s Torah Portion.
Then we will take a look at the upcoming events of April 8th, with the Eclipse and a large number of other events happen the same day. It is truly an uncommon day, and I will offer a few insights on some of the lessons we may learn about Yonah (Jonah) and Ya’akov (Jacob) as they might pertain to us
Does this signal the return of Y’shua? Of course I have no idea, but the lessons are real and important, foremost of which is not to hold too tightly to anything you think is true, even many ideas you may have from the pages of Scripture, trust in Him only and we will be fine no matter what happens in the Heavens and on Earth, this week or next century.
Join us as we continue to look as some of the Parables, this time we look at the Wise and Foolish builders and the 10 virgins. We tie this up by looking at the letters to the churches at Laodicea and Philadelphia. It is important to Understand we must be ready now for the return of Y’shua, we will not have time after His return to make sure we are right with Him, and the way the world is now He could return at any moment.
Join us as we wind up the extended look at Y’shua’s instructions and parables in Matthew 12 and 13 with the Dragnet, the Pearl of Great price, and the Hidden Treasure in the field. Very encouraging stuff, and not always how you were taught it. We end up with a look at who is taken and who is left, and with all apologies to Tim LaHay you might want to have another look at the parables and the book series.
Join us as we continue looking at the instructions and parables of Matthew 12 and 13. We will have a look at the tares in the good field, and that there are tares in every church and we have allowed the enemy to feel comfortable there, but the time is coming when the angles will reap the tares and toss them in the fire. We will learn of things that amaze Y’shua, what can amaze God? And the hidden nuggets of faith the Father left the Son to find. And why does Y’shua always tell people to not say anything about who He is? An interesting section of Scripture for sure.
Join us as we continue with Matthew 12 and 13. We open with a great picture of an iceberg … yes an iceberg. A great lesson in how little we know and understand, only a tiny part of the berg is above water and can be seen or explored, most of it is hidden to all but the most intrepid, and so it is with these parables. On the surface beautiful and easily visible but as we begin to investigate more fully, they have a ton of good and mostly hidden instructions and information for us. Certainly, a good place to begin is the so called parable of the Sower and the Seed, which is really the parable of the Soil. Is the soil of our heart ready to receive the Seed of the Word? Or is the soil hard to the Word? Do we allow the cares of the word to choke it out? Is there no one to come alongside when we are lacking a solid foundation?
Join us as we have a pretty wide-ranging discussion about the good fruit. In the next few weeks, we will be looking at the many parables and instructions to be found in Matthew 12 and 13. Really these, like most of Y’shua’s instructions to us, all pertain to the same issue, the soil condition of our heart. Is it good? will the seed of the Word grow there? Will it produce a good tree and good fruit? Is He El Shaddi, the provider God whom we ask for assistance, or is He Yahuah, the eternal, all powerful creator God, or is He both?
Why did the disciples follow Y’shua just at his word? Why or what were they “given” to understand the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven and the multitudes were “not given.” The attendees at synagogue began to see what the disciples had already seen, that this guy might just be the promised Messiah. Yet why were the educated religious leaders of that day unable to see? Why did they want to kill Y’shua, the Hebrew Word for salvation? Why did they want to kill salvation in order to save their position? Why did Y’shua get in a boat to speak with the Rabble and then later the disciples in private?
The blasphemy of the Spirit, the good tree, a brood of vipers, the good treasure of the heart, show us a sign, the unclean spirit, who are my mother and brothers? And more. Great info on its own but a great foundation for the next few weeks.
Join us today as I recount my recent quadruple bypass experience and some of the things Yahuah showed me. While these things, many of which I did not talk about due to a time constraint, were 100% worth learning, I know for me the only way I would learn them was to go through this, No one could explain it to me, many have tried. These things might be obvious to most believers but were things I needed to learn and experience first-hand, and I typically only learn by doing. I feel that is the best teacher, sometimes I kinda wish I was not wired that way, it would certainly be easier if I could just trust what “they” tell me is true, but that was never Yahuah’s design for me from my first day.
A brief description of the operation is included so beware if you are squeamish, but it seemed important to the account, and might be helpful to anyone considering the same operation. There are many other things I experienced but those will have to be for another day. If you find yourself forced to consider a bypass, or lung, or heart transplant call me I would be happy to share what I know … unfortunately. And thanks to Kevin for walking me through this before and for the encouragement.
As Yahuah explains to Moshe, Avraham, Yetzok, and Ya’akov, knew him as El Shaddi, but He wanted them to know Him as Yahuah. Apparently, this was a requirement to being set free from the bondage of the world (Egypt). Rav Sha’ul (teacher Paul) reminds us in 1 Corinthians that those living at the end of day are to use the people of the Exodus generation as examples of how we should live. We, too, should know God as more than the provider God but as one able to take us through all things. Our trust should be completely in Him and not in man or the world or our family or job or church or bank account.
This idea from this week’s Torah Portion is found in our lesson in Matthew chapter 12. Join us as we continue to look into the parables and instruction contained in Matthew chapters 12 and 13, picking up the account in 12:33 as Y’shua heals a man blind and dumb in the very House of God on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees reaction to this good work.
Today we will begin to examine the parables in chapters 12 and 13 of Matthew. One of the ideas to grab is the religious leaders of that day, and I might suggest this day, seem to mix man’s rules and laws up with the God's instructions and commandments in the Torah. It is important to understand clearly the difference between man’s wisdom and God's instructions. Often for many of us we hear a message that has mixed these things up a bit and in so doing might give is people the wrong idea about a few things. Join is as we seek to strengthen the foundation the Torah laid and watch as Y’shua builds on this foundation.
Necessarily, the TaNaKh or Old Testament was given to the nation of Yisrah-el’ as a whole as they traveled out of Egypt as one group and lived that way for hundreds of years. But as the nation was scattered to the corners of the earth and Y’shua came to find the lost sheep of the House of Yisrah-el’, the messages of the TaNaKh was given again, but this time to the individual rather than the nation. The message was the same but focused on each of us, that is the new covenant spoken of, same message, but to each of us personally by the Son of God.

We will begin today with a look at the disciples asking Y’shua why He spoke to the multitudes in parables found in the middle of chapter 13, rather than just speaking plainly to them. His answer, “to you it is given to understand the mysteries of Heaven” has caused some interesting sermons in the past. We will join the fray and seek to uncover the meaning and message Y’shua had for both his disciples and those following after Him, but not yet committed to Him.
The next several weeks we will back up to begin at chapter 12 and have a look at the rest of 12 and 13 and look at how all of these parables and words fit together for us 2000 years later.
Many of us have only recently returned from the church Christmas event staring … our kids. It is always a heartwarming story about the birth of our Savior in rather humble beginnings. Usually with straw, barnyard animals and of course the Star of Bethlehem gracing the stage. It’s all a lot of fun as we share cider and cookies and remember the day Jesus was born.
But just like Santa and Frosty, it’s not really true. Join us as we recount a far more compelling, and certainly more truthful account of Y’shua, the Hebrew word meaning salvation by the way, and his birth on that special day many years ago absolutely filled with meaning and prophecy often missed at the local church play. As usual we will look at this from a slightly Hebraic outlook and perhaps learn some new ways to understand what Y’shua was teaching us.
Join us as we look into “do not despise small things”. Often, we are more interested in the larger more dramatic issues and promises. The big popular church, the famous smooth-talking pastor, the fastest and most expensive automobile, but Scripture reminds us that Yahuah will do great things with small stuff. It may be our ministry seems small and insignificant, but that is not true, at least the insignificant part. We will see King Zerubbabel rebuild the temple and some of the old men who had seen the last temple cried about how small it was compared to the previous temple. You can guess the result. We will have a look at “fig leaf people”, that is, those who make coverings for themselves, ya know, those who only show up now and again, sit in the back row leave early, generally don’t want to get involved. They have too much to do to be a useful part of the body. We will spend time in Luke and Matthew Ezra and Zechariah so tune in.
Join us today as we take a quick look at the Torah portion and beyond and then focus on one of the most important chapters in Scripture. B’ray-sheeth or Genesis 24. In this chapter we see how it is we have become the gentile bride of the Jewish Son, Heir to all the Father has. This will challenge the understanding some have that the Jews will need to “get saved” or “become Christians” before they can go to Heaven.
This week we read about Abram being called out of Ur of the Casdeem and discover the story of his youth as described in the book of Yasher (Jasher) chapters 8 and 9. The account of a young Abram helps to explain why he was so quick to accept anything Yahuah told him and act. We have a look at why Abram is called the first Hebrew even though he really is not.
We will see Abraham again separating himself from the rest of his family namely Lot, and heading to the wilderness of Canaan. The mighty 4 kings swing in and take the cities of the plain and Lot with all his belongings. Abram mounts a counter offensive and destroys the most effective fighting force of the day to retrieve Lot and the rest of the people of the plain.
A strange character named Melchizedek prince of peace king of righteousness. Yahuah makes a covenant with Abram to assure his the promises are true, but his seed will spend 400 years in bondage and will come out with great wealth. We learn about Hagar and Ishmael, and the promise of Yetzok.
All of this leads to a question, why do we see Abram and later Y’shua as all "sunshine and rainbows?" Abram was the premier fighting machine of the day who slaughtered 4 kings and armies, and Y’shua …. When He came the first-time, healings and life was the order of the day, but when He comes back it will be as one who crushes kings and countries, fills the valleys with bodies ,and He comes as an unquenchable fire.
A lot going on for sure, and as we see the world heading towards the possibility of world war and the return of Y’shua, some honest reflection and humility might be the reason behind all of the things we see today. Are you ready?
The Word of Yahuah is our instruction and guidepost. Many who try to follow God’s word completely and separate it from man’s wisdom, the people who believe they are, and may well be, on the narrow path, are sometimes confused by the events of the world or their own lives because it just does not seem like God should allow these events to happen.
Joins us today as we begin by skimming over the weeks Torah portion, Noach (Noah), and look at how Yahuah has used events similar to today in the past.
Currently we are in the midst of a horrific war in Yisrah-el’ with the Edomites committing atrocities we are struggling to comprehend. The inhumanity being perpetrated on the citizens of Yisrah-el’ is causing many to wonder out loud where is God in all this? Last week we talked about the need for repentance and restoration, and some of the ways that comes about, including humility about our situations.
This week I want to look at this in a different way. Many times God’s people have been taken captive, we don’t read the actual horror involved in the 66 books, but many extra biblical books show us that in many cases they are worse than what we are currently seeing in Yisrah-el’. We come to find that in each case God’s purposes were fulfilled in ways we did not expect to see.
My desire is to assist us in better determining how to pray, and to trust that He is not asleep at the wheel, As it turns out, like it always does, He has already given us the answer if we are willing to look for it.
Today the scroll is rolled back to the beginning, and we begin again by looking at B’ray-sheeth 1:1 the creation to 6:8, which brought about the Flood of Naoch.
It seems like a lot of information to pack into one parsha but essentially we will be looking at God's creation and His people up to the time when every man’s heart was evil continually and Yahauh repented that He had even made man and destroyed everything.
Many of us have read this section every year for decades and have been able to look at many of the messages contained, to learn much about Yahuah and His plans. But this year as the scroll rewound, Hamas, the Hebrew word for violence by the way, attacked Yisrah-el’ in a way they had never been able to before. Hezbollah in the North is preparing to enter the war, Iran is funding and threatening, most of the world is or can be expected to turn against Yisrah-el’.
We are living in the times of Noach and for the next few weeks we will be looking at what all of this might mean, far past the first ten generations, perhaps right to our time today. Why would Yahuah allow this? Stay tuned, buckle up, and look to Him … remember He only gives good gifts.

One verse read in four different versions appears to say 4 different things, and most of them are not correct. Like the book entitled “Eats Shoots and Leaves”, depending on where you put the commas, it is either about Panda bears or mafia assassin. Hebrew does not use punctuation so you would have to learn from the previous context what the book is about. That in a nutshell is why there are so many denominations, comma placement.

Tonight is April Fools, but this is no joke, you do not want to be a Khaz’-eer Fissel. A Yiddish term loosely translated as a pigs foot. What the deal with a pigs foot? Pigs have a cloven hoof and from the outside look clean, it is not until you see what is on the inside that you know you have been fooled. Like so much of the world and even the church today, it is designed to look good and faithful and true but is completely unclean on the inside.

Tonight we will continue a discussion from Vayiqra (Leviticus) about offerings in the Temple. Most of us do not see the importance of that information for us living so long past the Temple. We are too often told, and many believe, that YHVH is not capable of tailoring a message or instruction for all people for all time, and that the messages in the TaNaKh were only for the people living in that day. I disagree. Our pastors tend to focus on messages from the Second Testament, mistakenly believing there is nothing for us in the Torah.
Peter repeats Vayiqra, Be ye Holy as I am Holy (1 Peter 1:16), but of course the instructions on how to be Holy are first found in the Book of Vayiqra 20:26 and those instruction come from the instructions about the offerings, how to be Holy, not common or profane, in the first few chapters of Vayiqra.

As the world seems headed to destruction, people hearts are cold towards their fellow man, and truth is impossible to find. Many of us are stunned by the callous disregard for anything good and honest. The question must be “how did this happen?”
Tonight, we will have a look at the roots of this catastrophe beginning in the Book of the calling, Vayikra, or Leviticus per the Septuagint. Vayikra begins where Shemoeth or Exodus left off. After describing the Temple and the Priests, the materials used and the purpose, Vayiqra moves to look at the children and their use of the Temple in making offerings to Elohiym. We will look past the mechanical parts of the offering described in chapter 1 and to the spiritual ideas we can glean and how that information might change the hearts of the offeror.

We like to pretend we are more faithful, understand more and are more willing than the stiff-necked people of Moshe’s time. But are we any different? Tonight we will have a look at the church the people run, Laodicea and YHVH’s thoughts on an "assembly", (poorly translated as church in the KJV), of people who have taken control of the group, and find YHVH on the outside knocking to get in. While Laodicea is the last of the 7 assemblies to be mentioned in Revelation chapter 3, this tendency for people to eliminate the need for God is not new and is often specific to many “churches” today.
We continue to look at some of the things we, living at the last days before Y’shua’s return, should be doing according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 10. We are going to embark on a journey to look at ideas verses and words to share in hopes of waking some up to the possibility that YHVH has so much more for them (us) than they (we) may know, and as the day draws near it is becoming ever more important to more fully and accurately represent some of the depth of His Word.
Simply by examining the context and content of each verse can often open a new world of meaning.
We must also be aware of who is speaking and to whom are they speaking; for instance many believe that the Sermon on the Mount was given to the multitudes following Y’shau, but that is not true: reread Matthew 5:1-2, He spoke to the disciples only.
It is often helpful to consider the background culturally and personally, and of the particular situation and the speaker, and to consider why the speaker said the things they said.
We know that the Words of Scripture were not written in modern American English and as such it is pretty important to understand the words in the original language and context, so some investigation of both Hebrew and Greek is inevitable and necessary to further our understanding.
Some verses will require a little outside research. For instance, we can know pretty much exactly when Y’shua was born as we are given a direct time line in scripture from the courses or serving times of the priests. But those dates are not directly listed in the pages of Scripture some a tiny bit of research is needed to determine when the priest of the course of Abaiayu (Father of Yah) served to find the exact date of the birth of Y’shau and, as it turns out, of Yocanon (John the Baptist) also.

Tonight, we will take a look at the Feast called Sukkoth or the Hebrew word for booths. This feast is also known as the Feast of Tabernacles in preparation for the first day of the feast which begins at Sundown on Monday the 20th of this year (2021).
Perhaps more than any other feast, there is a great deal of scripture that happens during this week and we can learn a good deal about those events by noting that they are happening during a feast designed to remind us that this place is not our home.
The Spring feasts were predictive of the coming, crucifixion and resurrecting of the Messiah, and of course, Y’shua fulfilled these predictions of the very day of the feast. The Feast of Shavuot called Pentecost by the Catholics comes on the morrow after the 7th 7, or 50 days after the spring feasts. The Holy Spirit descended on this very day, so we can expect that the events of the end times will fall on the exact days of the fall feasts. We know from Zechariah 14 that the nations will celebrate this feast through the 1,000 years meaning this feast is predictive of the final homegoing after the 1,000 year reign of Y’shua.

This might make an interesting calendar with the 12 top people, one for every month to help keep us on our toes, or maybe a 42 month calendar to match up with the last 3 ½ years, eh?.

Today we begin a look at the end times as seen at the beginning. Many are not aware that the account of Kaw-yin’, better known as Cain, and Haw’vel’ knows in English as Abel begins with the English words in Chapter 4 verse 3 “In the process of time” but in Hebrew it sounds like minkates yom. Mi,n written מן, means from or out of … kates, written, ק ץ is an extremity or the end … yome, יומ day … haw-yaw,’היה to exist, this is the word from which the name is God is drawn, YHVH, Yaw-way Yahuah, Jehovah (there is no “J” in Hebrew) the eternal and pre-existent God, I am that I am.
Soooo the account of these two boys that we think we know so well actually begins at the end of days this will happen, or out of the end of days this will exist. The account of Kaw-yin’ and Haw-vel’ is much more than a story of two brothers from a time buried in history, it is promised to be the account of what will happen at the end of days.
This account will lead us too two more pairs of brothers, we also believe we know and how they all fit together to weave a warning about what is in store for those living at the end of days before Y’shau, the Hebrew word for salvation and translated into Greek and English as Jesus (remember no “J” in Hebrew so this was not His name) returns. That is what will happen before Salvation returns to Earth.

Join us tonight as we briefly discuss the Court of the Tabernacle, and continue talking about the coming end of days, from the Rapture to the New Jerusalem, a period of 1007 years yet future. We will continue to look at why the so-called pre-tribulation rapture seems to fit Scripture and what it might mean to us and our walk. That being said, prophecy by definition is about something that has not happened and the only way to know if we understand it correctly is to actually go through it.
I have entitled this “Heading East” and have used that fabulous picture Bryan Gile took on his way to Missouri, while he was heading directly east in southern Colorado, as the sun was coming up. It is the perfect representation of our situation as we are all on the road heading east towards the end of days, whenever they will come.
Daniel in 12:4 tells us that as we approach the end of days knowledge of the event will increase, and Matthew chapter 13 tells us that we do not know the day of the coming of the Master but to always be vigilant, ready and looking (studying) lest when He arrives He finds us spiritually sleeping. So we are. Some say these things are not important “because I will be going anyway”, perhaps true but certainly short sighted. YHVH created each of us from before the foundations of the earth and placed us here, at this time, for His purpose. I believe He has a part for each of us to play in this final act. Matthew 24 also reminds us the last days will be like the days of Noah when everyone was complacent thinking that they are “good to go”, and then the end came, and most were not “good to go” as it turned out. Don’t be like them. Let's watch the signs and compare them to what YHVH has told us will happen.

Tonight we will lay the foundation for the next few weeks as we have a closer look at the tabernacle and the things within it. Far more than just a place to worship God - it is, as Hebrews records, an “example and shadow of heavenly things”. It has great meaning past the flannel graph studies we are used to, and offers an almost unparalleled view of the Messiah, and of us as humans. While the Temple was a real place where the children of Israel worshipped YHVH, the designs and type, the similitudes as the King James calls them, are messages to us thousands of years later about the nature of Y’shua, YHVH, and us. We all know at least something about the Feasts of the Lord. The Feasts are fun and prophetic and we can learn much by celebrating them. But most Christians do not really know just how much of the Bible, (both Old and New Testament) takes place during a Feast.

We continue with our look at some of the Words or instructions from YHVH, wrongly called the “law” in English. We will have a look at “seeking revenge, holding a grudge” and who is our “neighbor” … and "enemy".
In the context of the Hebrew language, culture, and time, YHVH has much more for us here than we typically understand. Creative engagement for redemption, is how one writer put it.
Are we correct in applying all of the so called “laws” to everyone, or are they more specific and why does it really matter? Why can God not mix? And why the world tells us that we should.

We continue to look at the instructions YHVH gave His people identifying the path to an eternity with Him. Most who call themselves Christians today have a somewhat incomplete understanding of God’s instructions, and why they are important in helping us see the straight gate and narrow path. Some might even believe these words have nothing for us because “all we need is love” perhaps confusing John Lennon with YHVH. We take a bit of an honest look at some of the pitfalls the enemy is putting in our path, and how to identify and avoid them. We begin a new journey tonight as we lay the foundation for understanding the instructions contained in Scripture, incorrectly called the law in English. The instructions, statutes, judgements, and commandments allow us to see what a life lived for YHVH looks like.
What do “thou shalt not murder, commit adultery, steal, and bear false witness” really mean? Do we need to honor our parents if they are bad people, and if so, how does that glorify YHVH?
Sometimes words translated from ancient Hebrew into modern English miss the mark a bit, and living in a culture so far removed from the Hebrew culture of 3 or 4 thousand years ago, it is easy to miss some of the finer points.

This weeks Torah Portion provides much encouragement and prophecy.
We are told that after all Israel went through in his life that at the end …he lived. So too will we live at the end despite the many adversities we face if we stay true to YHVH.
We will read Israel’s blessing on this grandchildren and why he adopted them, we will find out who God records through the prophet Isaiah, as His first born and what that means for us. We learn about the necessity of being squeezed if we are to follow Him.
As we wrap up the Book of the Beginning, we learn exactly what the end will look like, and we can choose to embrace it and get on the narrow path and the pass though the straight gate, or take the path of least resistance so popular with many “believers” today.
A very important Torah portion for anyone who believes we are living near the end of days. Jesus answered the disciples questions “When shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming?” by explaining what the physical world will look like: wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences, earthquakes and the rest. But, almost 2000 years before Jesus described the physical aspects of the end of days, the TaNaKh records the spiritual aspects of the end of days.
An eye opening portion not to be missed for those of us committed to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob currently living in the world, not yet in the Promised Land.
Buckle your seatbelt and please keep your arms in the car...it's going to be a bumpy ride.
In this portion we read that Jacob (or Israel), sat down or dwelt in Canaan, He might have been looking at retirement after he had sired the 12 tribes, survived Laban and Esau, both Leah and Rachel have died and it seems that he has fulfilled YHVH’s jobs for him. But the greatest trial yet awaits.
The prophetic pictures contained in Jacob moving to Egypt are many and very important for us to recognize if we really believe we are living in the end of days. The lesson begins by learning that the light must go where the darkness is.
Of course, this portion contains the account of the brothers of Joseph plotting against him. But we see every door was opened for Joseph, and he walked through them - lessons for us as things seems to be closing in. We compare Judah giving into temptation and Joseph running from it.

We start this week’s lesson by watching a video of Mac King doing The Rope Trick (https://youtu.be/xmI9uwYzH9o). This is the second of three very prophetic sections surrounding Jacob and Esau. An interesting historical study to be sure, but the prophetic implications are awesome.
Why did Esau not kill Jacob in the desert when they met? Had he not sworn to do so? Why did God tell Jacob to return to Bethel and “Get rid of the foreign gods he had with him?”
Did Jacob cause Rachel’s death? When Jacob and the family camp at the mig-dawl’ ay-der outside of Bethlehem, do you know where they were? When he built an alter at El-bethel do you know where he was? Do you think any of this was an accident?
A portion packed with prophecy for the end of time. The account of Jacob as he went out from his home to uncle Laban’s place to find a wife. Including “Jacob’s ladder,” wrestling with God, how Jacob came to have 4 wives, his meeting with Esau who had sworn to kill him, and much, much, more as they say. We all know the accounts, but we are a little less positive about the prophetic meanings of these things?
Do you know there is THE PLACE is in the land? A place unlike any other on God’s earth. Did you know there is THE ROCK in that place? A rock unlike any other in the universe. Have you ever wondered why Jacob would use a rock as a pillow?
We only take a brief look so there is much more for you to consider on your own, but this is a section well worth spending some time with if you believe we are living in the end times.
This Torah portion called “Toldot” or generations, is about Jacob and Esau, but more than the historical account. This and the next three or four sections are prophetic. They contain so much good information about what the wold will look like at the end.
Do you believe Jacob (or Israel as God calls him) is a deceiver? Have you ever wondered why so many of the matriarchs in Scripture are barren? Sarah, Rivkah, Rachel. Are you looking for a presidential candidate that can bring peace to the middle east? Have you ever noticed that God’s people and the enemy cannot be strong at the same time? Does that apply to the rest of us also?
Esau was a good hunter, and Isaac loved his game...Or not. Is the birth right different from the blessing?
These and many more interesting ideas from Scripture explained a bit differently than you might hear on Sunday.
This week, we learn the truth about the Christmas story, not the one you will hear at Church, but what actually happened according to the Bible. Most people already know Jesus was not born on December 25th, but do not know about the importance of that date. I would go so far as to say December 25th of 5BC may be the most important day in all of history. The birth of Jesus in a “manger” far away from Mary’s home is often viewed as an unfortunate event caused by a narcissistic Roman emperor, not so much. We will learn why this is the only place Jesus could have been born and this was the only day it could have happened, confirmed in all places by NASA.
Spend an hour here and you will never see a Christmas play or program the same way again.
In this Torah Portion called “the Life of Sarah” we actually learn of the death of Sarah, and are pushed to remember her life. In this portion, along with the Book of Ruth, we are given the exact instructions to be saved. I’m really not sure why Ruth and Genesis 24 are not required reading for all new believers.
Do you believe God meets you where you are? Do you believe we do not need to do anything to receive His salvation? Do you believe there is no cost to us to receive His salvation, because it is a free gift? Do you believe Jesus did away with the Torah, and the new commandment is to love our neighbors? If you answered yes to any of those questions you might want to investigate the instructions of Abraham, Ruth, and Rebecca.
I quickly overview of these two critical sections of Scripture to whet your appetite to learn more about our salvation.
This is a great section of Scripture as chapter 18 begins with Abraham welcoming the three guests in the desert. Who are these guys? It ends with the father Abraham, taking the Son Isaac, up the Mount Moriah which means “will see God”, after he ties the ates, (or tree in Hebrew), to his son and raising the knife to sacrifice him … well you know the account, at least you know some of it.
We witness Abraham’s negotiations with God, we discover the righteous cannot be destroyed with the wicked, we learn about Lots wife, and what made his daughters do what they did. Isaac the child of the promise is born, Hagar and Ishmael are cast out, and a bunch more.
If the Old Testament is so important why is Jesus not in it? Really? I was asked and answer that question. This is a full and fun lesson, I hope you take the time to listen.
This is the second Torah portion of the year and is about the flood of Noah. OK, OK, I know it was not his flood, but Noah is the primary character in the event.
Here is a brief synopsis of some of the lesser known messages contained in this chapter. We touch a bit on why the flood came and what was different about Noah that God saw him as “perfect in his generations” (spoiler alert Noah was not perfect)! How many arks are in Scripture?

Is Grace sort of like a get out of jail free card?
We began last week with the rich, young ruler asking Jesus what he must do to be saved. Do we “bless ourselves in our heart saying I shall have peace though I walk in the imagination of our heart?" Deut 29:19-20.
No offense to the Beatles, but is love really all we need? If God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, why do we not believe what He said then, but think we believe Him today?
Eve trusted a good looking guy at the tree and believed his words more than God’s words … ridiculous, we would never do such a thing … right?
A quick and partial discussion about what Jesus, John, Paul, Peter and the rest might mean when they say “keep the commandments”, and why they tell us "the remnant” at the end of days are only those who both keep the commandments and have the testimony of Jesus.
A quick overview of the first Torah Portion. This portion contains a lifetime of study material including: The House YHVH is building, a house includes a family a son a wife and children, the creation, the Sabbath, man and women, marriage, the priesthood and the temple, sin and disobedience, the enemy, murder and mercy, the entire account of Scripture, mans decent into self, YHVH regretting His creation, Noah’s salvation and tons more.
This is the final Torah Portion of the year, ending the book of Deuteronomy. Moses has completed his tasks of leading the children out of Egypt and through the desert. They are poised to enter the Promised Land, and Moses has already given his last bit of instruction and warning, and Moses is preparing to meet the Lord on Mt Pisgah. His last offering to the people he loved is to bless the tribes. When we read these words in English we might miss some of the finer points and meanings of Moses’ words.
While I believe the world will once again hear the words of Moses as one of the two witnesses at the end of days, this last section of his life is, like his 120 previous years, great instruction for all of us for all time.
In this Torah Portion, Moses gives a song to the people before he leaves for Mt. Pisgah. For the current crop of younger sound byte sorts, Moses covers the entire history and future of Gods people in 48 verses. When the children entered the wilderness from the Red Sea, Moses sister Mariam gave the people a song to help them remember the events of the parting of the sea. Now 40 years later as the people are getting ready to leave the wilderness and enter the Promised Land, Moses gives them a song to remember their history and future. There is some interesting word play contained in this song and more than a little prophesy. These are Moses’ last words to the people after leading them for 40 years, and worth listening to and learning from.
The last feast of the year, and the feast called The Greatest Feast, is that of Sukkoth; also known as Tabernacles. It takes place from the 15th day to the 21st day of the seventh month. In 2019, that is Sunday October 13th at sunset through Saturday October 26th at sunset. Celebrants were to build booths – Sukkoth – to live in for these 7 days. The roof was to have gaps to see the moon and let the rain in all to remind the Jews of the wanderings in the wilderness, and to remind them and us, that this place is not our home. Jesus would later tell us "not to store up for ourselves riches here on earth, where moths and rust will destroy, and robbers will steal" Matthew 6:19. The feast begins of the 15th day of the month. 15 means rest, and lasts for 7 days, the number of completion of perfection - thus perfect rest. This feast is a picture of that perfect rest we are looking forward to in eternity with the Lord.
In this Torah Portion, Moses has finished his recapping of the words and instructions of God for the people as they enter the Promised Land. He finishes writing the Torah and places it near the arc. He gives his final thoughts to the people and the Lord tells him what will become of the people after they enter the Land. They will turn their faces from YHVH and He will turn His from them.
His last duty is to write a song for the people to leave with them after he passes, to help them remember. The song is the essence of the next Torah Portion, but these are his last words to the people.
Important words for the people and according to Paul in 1 Corinthians 10, important words for us as the last generation.
We have a quick study answering the question, “is America and Republic or a Democracy”? For most of us, we have forgotten or perhaps never really knew if the country we live in was founded as a republic or democracy, and even for those that can correctly answer most find it difficult to explain. I suggest it is vitally important in these times that we do understand the difference to be able to make informed choices in the coming elections and to better understand the role we each play in the success of failure of this country.
Certainly not an exhaustive explanation but enough to get us all to think about the consequences of not knowing
In this Torah portion, called standing, Moses encourages the people … sort of. Moses has already told the people that in time they will begin to ignore the Lord and will be cast out of the Land, due to the abundance of the Land. These last few chapters are both truthful in word and difficult to hear. In this portion, Moses continues to warn the people to obey the commandments, instructions, statutes and judgments of the Lord. He continues to review the past to highlight the future and ends this portion be encouraging the people that after all they have been through from the bondage of Egypt and before, and during the 40 years wanderings, in spite of all of their sin, and the judgements and chastisement of the Lord, after all of it, they are still standing, ready to go into the Promised land and receive the promises of YHVH. Encouraging to us in these days as well.
Moses ends this section by telling the people the Lord has set before them life and death, a blessing and a curse and encouraging them to choose life. Obey the Lord and cleave to Him and lengthen your days.
This portion is as real and appropriate today as it was 3500 years ago.
This Torah Portion is called “when you enter the land” and was given to the people by Moses as they were about to enter the Promised Land. Have you ever wanted to obey God but did not know what to do about the offerings at the Temple and just pushed it aside believing this has nothing to do with us? Have you been taught the Holy Spirit is the restrainer, holding back evil, and secretly wondered what kind of job he is doing? When Paul speaks of the ap-os-tas-ee’-ah in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (translated as a falling away or departure) did you think he was talking about believers falling away from the faith? Does your Bible translate Deuteronomy 26:5 as "Jacob is a wandering Arabian" or "A Syrian tried to kill my father”?
Answers, and a lot more in this portion
In this week’s Torah portion, Moses reads 74 commandments or instructions including personal matters, civic matters, domestic matters, farming matters and general instructions highlighting the way a person of God will walk and act. This section includes several of the “standard” reasons some people do not follow the Torah; all bogus of course.
We will look past the simple words at the real pictures God is drawing about stoning a rebellious son, an adulterous wife, parents loving God more than their children, women not wearing pants, and 70 other items.
In this portion, Moses is instruction the people about judges, kings, and princes; yesterdays equivalent to politicians today. His instructions are to both the leaders and to the people. For the leaders, what it looks like to be a good one, and to the people to be able to identify a poor one. Moses gives instructions, later echoed by Jesus, about the importance of unity under YHVH’s instructions. We gain an interesting glimpse of why the High Priest Caiaphus felt he had to kill Jesus and can easily see why the left feels they have to destroy the right.
A worthwhile section providing great insight into todays political environment.
This Torah Portion is called re-eh' or behold or see. Moses continues his recapping of the instructions of YHVH to the people before they enter the Land, so they can see the reasons for these lessons. This sections begins with the words “Behold I have set before you this day a blessing and a curse” And more than an attention grabbing headline, the lessons in this section teach us how to choose the blessing rather than the curse. Moses tells the children and us, that things will not be the same once they enter the Promised Land and they need to be prepared to follow the path to blessing rather than casually be lead to a curse by not paying attention. Their freedom from the bondage of Egypt and the structure of the desert, will be gone and they can choose how to live, will it be a blessing or a curse? We see the promise to Abraham made by YHVH come full circle at this place, and in this section. An interesting and informative section of Deuteronomy for sure.
The Torah Portion called Ekev, or rewards, is perhaps the most important lesson in Scripture, and certainly one of the most overlooked. Paul reminds thous of us us living in the last days to look to the exodus generation as examples of what we should and should not do. 1 Corinthians 10:1-10. Ekev takes place as Moses is instructing, warning, and actually prophesying about the exodus generation as they cross into the Promised Land, and is so doing is speaking directly to this generation as well. He reminds them they are about to enter a land of milk and honey, a place where the land will produce 30, 60, or 100 fold for all that are willing to work. He reminds them, and us, not to become stale in the land and forget that it is YHVH who is multiplying our work.
The word Ekev ties us to Jacob, or Israel, we can choose to be the head or the heel, we can choose to thank God, or trust in our abilities. Most importantly Moses tells the people they will forget God and may need another wilderness like experience, less as punishment from God and more because He loves them (us).
This is a portion we should carefully consider as we live the easy life in the USA.
Have you ever wondered what is up with the cool artistic little things on the door post of most Jewish homes? They are called a Mezuzah and contains a parchment scroll with a hand copied (in Hebrew of course) section of Scripture known as the “Shema” (hear and understand not simple to listen) found in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: 5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
And Deuteronomy 11:13-21
3 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.
16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;
17 And then the Lord's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you.
18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
This portion pretty much sums a life following the God of Abraham Issac and Jacob, as the people were about to enter the Promised Land, as Moses is reviewing the Torah before his earthly demise.
The Torah portion called Mattot or tribes contains some interesting instructions on vows and insight on how the Lord provides for His people sometimes. Have you ever wondered how it came to be that 2 1/2 of the tribes were scattered on the other side of the Jordan? Was this punishment or reward? Roben and gad of all tribes show what it means to keep a vow and are rewarded appropriately.
This year Mattot covers the week of the Tisha B Av or the Ninth of Av on the Jewish calendar, and we will have a look at the deeper meanings and importance of this day in Jewish history.
We met Pinchas last week at the conclusion of the section about Balak and Baalam. He was zealous for God and was rewarded by God for his actions.
We learn of the continual struggle between the Jews and Arab and why it will never end this side of Heaven, why it is important, and why there can never be peace in the Middle East no matter which President tells you he has worked it out.
The Lord commands a new census of the people as the land needed to be apportioned, and we see the dramatic decline of the rebellious groups and increase of those not involved in the many rebellions.
An interesting section about women being important to the nation Israel and instructions for celebrating the daily, monthly, and special feasts and why they are important to our spiritual understanding.

Balak was King of Moab, he saw “the people that came up out of Egypt” camped at his door step and became fearful. He sent to Mesopotamia for the seer called Baalam offering riches and prestige if he would come and curse these people for him. having been cursed by Baalam perviously he thought this would be the answer to his problems.
Baalam who was related to Abraham and Laban was, in fact, able to communicate with the God of Israel, and was told by YHVH not to go or curse the people. King balak did not take no for an answer and sent other more important people to convince Baalam to come to his aid. Baalam does finally agree to come, but with the understanding he could only say what God instructed him to say.
Baalam has an interesting encounter with an angel on the way, his donkey gives him advice and he responds to the donkey, and finds himself now ordered to go to King Balak, and only repeat the words from God. These words turned out to be two blessings and a clear prophecy of the end times.
Baalam, still hoping for riches, agrees to place a stumbling block in the path of the children of Israel, and not only looses his fame and riches, but later his life but not before Pinchas, a grandson of Aaron, shows up to “stay the plague” created by Baalam.
An action packed section of Scripture with lots to tell us about living, and how not to live, a spirt filled life.
Have you ever read something in Scripture and just sort or rolled your eyes? It OK you don’t have to answer, I know you have, we all have. This Torah Portion called in Hebrew Chukat חקה contains ordinances, the meaning of the word Chukat, supposedly beyond human understanding.
In this Torah portion, which is the shortest of the year, but contains some of the most important information in the Torah, we encounter the instructions for the Red Heifer, necessary for purification to allow us to enter the Tabernacle of YHVH. We read about the so-called brass serpent on a pole, required for healing the nation after an invasion of deadly snakes.
After more than 40 years of impeccable service to YHVH, and to the difficult people, we are shocked to find Moses and Aaron will not be allowed into the Promised Land “because ye believed me not” … say what?
We learn of the death of Aaron, the elevation of Eleazar to his position, and the passing of Miriam.
Many of the events contained in this parashat are out of chronological order, so we have to pay careful attention to see the message the Lord is sending by moving these events.
As with all of the Torah, the deeper we look, the more Jesus we see. A particularly fascinating section of Scripture of which we will only scratch the surface, leaving plenty for you to learn on your own.
This Torah portion provides insight in the death of Korach. He lead a rebellion against Moses and in that way against YHVH, who had the earth open and swallow him, taking him to Sheol alive.
God wants to once again wipe out the people, and Moses once again intercedes for the people.
Scripture makes the tie in between Cain, Nimrod, Korach and pictures the politicians of today. Do we expect the result to be different? Apparently one can not simply stand by when the leaders are in rebellion to God and expect to be rewarded.
Why does one political party today make the claims they make? Nothing is new under the sun. It is OK so be a "peacemaker" and not correct their error?
We see God's anger and mercy on full display.
Glean additional insights to an event most of us know a little bit about from our flannel graphs.
This Torah Portion is called "Send for Yourself" and is found in B’Midbar (Numbers) 13:1 to 15:41 and the haftorah is Joshua 2:1-24, and John 19:11-17 is read also.
It is recorded Moses listened to the people and agreed to send 12 spies into the land, the Lords response to Moses “send them yourself” belies that YHVH already knew what was going to happen. Many Bible believers do not know the spies were sent into the land some 38 years before the children of the children actually settled in the land under Joshua. While this section included the infamous evil report resulting in the death of the 10 evil spies and a delay of 38 years or so before the people could enter the land, it also includes many details we may not be familiar with, sins of ignorance and sins of presumption is for one.
We learn again that there is only one law for the people of God and the stranger in the land, important as we consider our actions and response to ever increasing pressure for the world to abandon God’s teachings.
YHVH reminds the people of their previous 10 rebellions (in about a year) and the cost for slander … again, and the cost of unbelief … again.
We learn of the tsee-tseeth’, the fringe worn on the hem of the garment with white and blue cords to remind the people of the truth of Gods Word. This is the fringe on Jesus' garment the woman touched to be healed.
The lighting of the Menorah in the Tabernacle is the highest form or praise, greater than offerings, or good deeds. YHVH desires obedience more than sacrifice, and His kingdom can not be attained through violence or gifts or work. We learn more about the people set apart from the rest of the people who are already set apart from the world. We encounter an interesting rabbit trail about a second Exodus … it is for us?
We learn more about la-shone’ ha raw or the evil tongue, and the problems complaining cause including the tab-ay-rah’or burning, a fire that consumes the outskirts of the camp inhabited by the ay'-rab reb, or mixed multitude who instigated the complaining. Moses sister Miriam falls to the dangers of complaining and is cast out of the camp as dead, and redeemed in 7 days.
We can see an interesting comparison between the first born, the priests, and the bride, and read the account of YHVH sending quail to satisfy the complaining.
The silver trumpets of redemption are introduced and the mechanics of how 3 million people and the Temple of God move in the wilderness, and much more.
This week, we are discussing the idea of the firstborn blessing or birthright and why many "firstborns" in the Bible were not worthy of the blessings bestowed upon them.
