Bringing back an early Nirvana Sisters episode to enjoy over the american Thanksgiving holiday. Many will be visiting family and friends so what better way to relax and listen to top designer Zoe Feldman sharing ideas for a home that nurtures your well-being.

Amy and Katie sit down with interior designer Zoe Feldman to get her tips on creating a cozy, happy and inspiring home. Zoe’s advice is accessible for all and will quickly transform your space. The three discuss ways to reduce your environmental footprint when decorating and how Zoe’s design firm gives back by donating her consultation fee to charity.

Amy reviews one of Katie’s all time favorite products and stay till the end to hear all three share how they maintain their daily Nirvana.

Zoe Feldman:
Zoe Feldman’s signature, seamless blend of modern and classic is rooted as much in her upbringing as it is in her early design training. Raised in a mid-century modern home by art and furniture collectors and gallerists, Zoe honed her clean-lined instincts at Parsons School of Design in New York. But she credits the subsequent years working under the tutelage of AD100 designer Alexa Hampton at the iconic Manhattan-based firm Mark Hampton, Inc, for opening her eyes to the benefits of a just-so, traditional approach.

Since setting up her own practice in 2004, Zoe’s been bringing her unique take on modernized classicism to homes across the country, and her work has been featured in publications including Elle Decor, House Beautiful, and Domino. In 2020, she was named one of the Top 10 ‘New Trads’ by Traditional Home magazine, and ‘Best Boutique Interior Design Firm’ by Home & Design magazine. Zoe draws on her love of the practical, the playful, and the deeply personal to create spaces that are as inviting and soulful as they are sophisticated.

In this week’s episode, Amy and Katie discuss a dirty skincare secret that we bet you didn’t know about. While those in the industry have known this for years, the average consumer would not. We also talk about what you can do about it with Liz Whitman, Exponent Beauty CEO and Founder. She shares her tips for getting the most out of your skincare products, her favorite SPF and her brand new beauty brand, Exponent Beauty which is by the way, a certified B corporation.

About Liz Whitman:
Liz holds an AB from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. After 12+ years of retailing “potent” skincare in other various roles, Liz had her a-ha! moment while at The Red Door by Elizabeth Arden, where she was the President and CMO, leading the strategic reinvention for the largest national salon and spa retailer across its 30 locations. Liz quickly noticed that estheticians ensured peak potency by freshly mixing treatments (and the most fragile clinical skincare ingredients) in the moment. This made her wonder: How effective can pre-mixed skincare actually be?

In this week's episode Amy and Katie chat with Rachel Glass, Founder of GLOSSLAB. The three discuss the most relatable self-care errand that we all do, manicures and pedicures. Rachel explains why taking the time to get a manicure and pedicure should be a part of your weekly routine and why GLOSSLAB should be your go-to nail salon. Rachel explains why their waterless approach is more hygienic and why the brand is committed to bringing you the most efficient nail experience out there. Between the curated color board, fun designs, and early morning hours, get excited about a GLOSSLAB opening near you. Listen to Rachel share what's on the horizon for the company and where you'll find new locations popping up.

Founder Rachel Apfel Glass saw a gap in the market during her years working at a hedge fund when she found it nearly impossible to fit in an efficient manicure during the busy work week. In 2018, after the birth of her second daughter, Rachel and a team of experts got together to open the first GLOSSLAB location in the Flatiron district of New York at 27 West 20th Street
The hygiene-first, waterless, and membership based studios also feature technology-enhanced services such as online booking, cashless payment and contactless check-in and check-out. GLOSSLAB patrons can choose from a curated group of performance-based products at the forefront of beauty and nail trends including best-in-class, long-lasting gel and non-toxic polishes.

The future forward studio features technology enhanced services (online booking, cashless payment, contactless check-in and check-out) and performance based products at the forefront of beauty and nail trends including best-in-class long lasting vegan polish, gel, and non-toxic polishes.
Hygiene is GLOSSLAB’s guarantee, with strict measures in place long before COVID-19 guidelines were developed. Every tool is scrubbed and sterilized to hospital-grade requirements; nail files and buffers are for individual use only. All high-touch areas including the nail station, polish wall, and front desk are extensively cleaned with a hospital-grade cleaner. Manicures and pedicures are waterless, which is not only more hygienic, but better for the environment and keeps polish lasting longer.

In addition to their in-person manicure and pedicure offerings, the brand launched three proprietary nail kits including: a GLOSSLAB nail tool kit, a GLOSSLAB gel eraser kit and a GLOSSLAB manicure rescue kit ranging in price from $25-$35. In Early 2022, GLOSSLAB will launch a slew of self-care must-haves including a full line of proprietary polishes, at-home mani and pedi kits, hand creams and foot creams to bring the GLOSSLAB experience into homes everywhere.

GLOSSLAB currently has eight locations in the NYC metro area including Tribeca, The Upper East Side (x2), Flatiron, Noho, Midtown, the West Village, and Westport, CT, and a studio in Bethesda, MD. More GLOSSLAB locations are opening soon including: Miami, FL, Hoboken, NJ, Georgetown, Darien, CT, Houston and Dallas. All appointments are booked online. Membership is $135 for unlimited monthly manicures + pedicures – along with a la carte services.

In part 2 with Jessica Maguire, Amy and Katie ask Jessica how a dysregulated nervous system effects children, the various types of dysregulation, and tips for how to improve one's vagal tone. Listen as Amy gets Jessica's perspective on how low vagal tone caused by stress, could have been a contributing factor to her vestibular migraines. The three also discuss research that has shown the importance of vagal tone for a regulated nervous system, how it effects your fight or flight response, overall wellness, and more.

About Jessica Maguire:
Jessica’s passion for health first lead to a degree in Health Science, studying the use of electrocardiography: how the heart’s electrical impulses are amplified and recorded. She then went on to complete a Masters of Physiotherapy and spent over fourteen years helping people improve the health of their brain and body.

Through her clinical experience in neurology and musculoskeletal physiotherapy, and her previous study into how heart rate variability effects the brain, she was fascinated by neuroscience and the potential for the brain and nervous system to change.

Jessica has studied neurophysiology throughout Europe, America, the UK and Australia. She has learnt from pain researchers, professors in neuroplasticity, neuroscientists and psychologists on how the brain and nervous system change from stress, trauma and chronic pain. Her post-graduate study has lead to further qualifications in clinical mindfulness, trauma-sensitive biofeedback, polyvagal theory and the use of transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation.

Jessica believes that knowledge is power, and that we are empowered when we have autonomy in reshaping our mind-body system. Her specialty now is teaching patients about the vagus nerve and their nervous system, and how “stress-related illness” such as anxiety, depression, gut disorders, autoimmune issues and chronic pain can arise from dysregulation after chronic or traumatic stress.

She uses Vagus Nerve Workshop and Masterclass, as well as the Vagus Nerve Program to help people get to the cause of their problems, rather than just relying on others to treat their symptoms.

Nervous system dysregulation also affects the immune and endocrine system, which in turn influence the cardiovascular, reproductive and digestive systems. By recalibrating the nervous system many chronic health issues can improve.

Her areas of expertise include:

  • nervous system dysregulation from chronic stress and trauma
  • chronic pain
  • fibromyalgia
  • inflammatory conditions
  • anxiety and depression
  • digestive issues
  • insomnia
  • chronic fatigue

REPLAY! Alli just got married and in celebration, re-airing her popular episode..

In this week’s special episode Amy and Katie meet their role model, Alli Webb, someone Amy has admired for years. The three discuss Alli’s mentors, leadership in the entrepreneurial world, and being raised by parents with a strong work ethic. With Alli always keeping it real they discuss raising kids, her upcoming wedding and of course her new cat Cookie. Alli discusses her newest venture, Impact Series and how her passion for paying it forward to entrepreneurs has manifested. Stay till the end for her favorite hair and beauty products.

About Alli Webb:
You probably know Alli best as the co-founder of Drybar, the whimsical salon that made blowouts as accessible and budget-friendly as your favorite skinny vanilla latte. After scaling to 150+ locations and launching a product line, Alli and her partners sold Drybar to focus attention on new ventures. She has since co-founded Squeeze—a way better massage experience, Okay Humans—the future of face-to-face talk therapy, and Beckett & Quill—a high-end, not high-spend jewelry line. And, there’s no telling what she’s got up her sleeve next.

What all of these ventures have in common—beyond Alli herself—is that they opt to make something we all need (or want)—blowouts, massages, therapy, little luxuries—more within reach. In this sense, each endeavor also reflects what Alli represents on a more personal level as a stay-at-home-mom turned mogul—she makes launching a business, following a dream, or frankly “just doing the damn thing”... within reach. Something any woman could do, as long as she’s willing to jump.

While she’s graced the covers of today’s most esteemed business and beauty publications, has leant her expertise on the hit show, Shark Tank, and has a top-rated podcast, Raising the Bar, with her partner Adrian, Alli’s gift to the world isn’t her celebrity, but her ‘realness’ and the way in which she unapologetically and authentically sheds light on her life experiences—even the messy parts. It’s her willingness to speak the truth, and share the lows with the highs, that makes her so relatable. Yes, she’s an extremely successful entrepreneur and investor. But yes, she’s also just like you—a woman who survived a public divorce and found love on the other side. A mom who bravely and full heartedly sent her son to rehab. A person who loves to give back and finds value in not only how well her ventures do, but how they make people feel—how she makes people feel.

This week, Amy and Katie have a fascinating conversation with Julie Mirer M.D about the emerging field of psychedelic medicine, something the Nirvana Sisters highlighted in their 2022 Trends Episode earlier this year. This conversation tackles the different kinds of medicine, the history, the science, who can benefit from this therapy and more. Dr. Mirer breaks down the step by step experience at Nushama for new members. The three also discuss ways to make this treatment accessible to all.

About Julia Mirer M.D:
Julia left medicine to pursue a life of healing. Julia Mirer M.D. is a consultant in the emerging field of psychedelic medicine, serving as a bridge between eastern and western practices, committed to merging them to help create a new paradigm for integrative health and wellness.

She was on the road to a career in Pediatrics, but seeing the pitfalls of the current healthcare system, decided to shift gears to explore transformative medicine where she has found her calling in advocacy and education.

Julia’s passion lies in education and advocacy for the responsible use of these medicines. Dr. Mirer believes that a successful future for this field depends on the interplay between policy, research, and clinics and has therefore positioned herself to play a role in each.

Nationally, Dr. Mirer is an advisor for the Plant Medicine Coalition, lobbying the NIH for $100mil for psychedelic research. In Florida, she works in psychedelic clinical research at Segal Trials as a facilitator for USONA’s phase 2 trial using Psilocybin for Major Depression. Most recently, Dr. Mirer joined Nushama as Director of Strategy, where she hopes to combine all her experience to create the vision of a new kind of healthcare system and facilitate Nushama’s goal of humanizing medicine.

Call her any that follow: The FLY Pharmacist, Self-Care Strategist and founder of lifestyle brand, FLY with Alisha Reed. Dr. Reed was born and raised in New Orleans, where she attended Xavier University of Louisiana and received a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.
Dr. Reed has been a licensed pharmacist for almost two decades and has seen first-hand how self-care impacts health in the community. The World Health Organization defines self-care as: “the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and to cope with illness and disability with or without the support of a healthcare provider.” The FLY Pharmacist acts as an advocate to empower and educate her community to make self-care a priority in their lives. As a Self-Care Strategist, Dr. Reed provides the tools and training necessary to create a successful self-care plan.
She is a widow mom who believes that self-care is non-negotiable and is determined to break the generational curse that “strong women don’t take breaks.” Self-care has become such a buzzword, but the truth is that self-care is whatever you need it to be.
After losing her husband in 2019, Dr. Reed wanted to normalize grief by publicly sharing her grief journey, while continuing to practice exceptional self-care. Dr. Reed moderates a widow support group and hosts The Fly Widow Podcast.

Hearts be still, meet Meredith Quill! In this week’s episode, we talk with Meredith Quill about her new jewelry brand, Becket + Quill. Meredith’s been designing jewelry since she was a teenager and launched her growing brand with Alli Webb just under a year ago. Meredith tells us about the inspiration behind her company, her process and her favorite pieces. She describes how making jewelry is her Nirvana, and so much more. Amy reviews her favorite new product and Meredith gives us a secret product reco during our 5 minute flow discussion. Get your holiday list started as Meredith gives us the scoop on her latest jewelry launches and a sneak peak of what’s to come.

About Meredith Quill:
At the age of three, Meredith wore her mother’s engagement ring to preschool and told the teachers that she had gotten married. This was the start of a lifelong passion for jewelry. As a teenager, she started making her own pieces, learning how to solder and set stones using a variety of metals. After getting married and having 3 kids, Meredith saw a hole in the marketplace for reasonably priced, beautiful jewelry.
