A podcast that explores the intersections of life from the perspective of a B.M.W.-Black. Muslim. Woman.
In this episode, I will examine how dangerous we are as a country to losing our democratic institutions, our democracy, and essentially our soul as a countryas Trump, Vance, and the Maga Republicans are now doubling down using divisiverhetoric to disparage communities, unleash gender and culture wars, upenddemocratic institutions, how corporatemedia seem complicit and ambivalent as this country is being put to the flameby a candidate who has imposter syndrome.
The running commentary concludes with the closing summary by Abdullah Yusuf Ali-May Allah Be Pleased with him. Commentary numbers 295-300

I dedicate this episode to Amanda Gorman! The young, talented, poet laureate recently had her inaugural poem, "The Hill We Climb" restricted from elementary school kids by ONE parent in Miami-Dade, Florida. In this episode, I explore why her poem was considered controversy and had "indirectly hate messages"???
I also take a slight detour and mention the new ridiculous black history teaching standards in, where else, Florida. The new standards want teachers to teach the narrative that "slavery was beneficial to black people".
I also break down the inaugural poem and offer my interpretation of "The Hill We Climb". Enjoy!!

It is projected that the average black family will have a net worth of zero by the year 2043. In this episode, I explore how America systematically spearheaded wealth for white families stemming from the Transatlantic slave trade up through the cotton, tobacco, and sugar industries up to Wall Street. The government also enforced policies to strategically disenfranchise black families from home ownership. Black spending power in 2021 peaked at 1.6 trillion dollars despite this, but it has dropped 14% since that year and is projected to further decline. Is it time to sound the alarm? Organize, strategize, and demand reparations talk? Where does personal accountability factor in? Is it too late for a people historically disenfranchised by their own government?

The Vibe Clinic creator-CeeCee Robinson and I discuss our reactions and takes on "The 1619 Project". Politico published an essay by Leslie M. Harris in which she expresses, “It is easy to correct facts, it is much harder to correct a worldview that consistently ignores and distorts the role of African-Americans and race in our history, in order to present white people as all powerful and solely in possession to the keys of equality, freedom, and democracy. At least that is the corrective history toward which the 1619 project is moving, if imperfectly.”

Governor Ron DeSantis is setting a tone in Florida and other states are taking note. He is leading a charge against "wokeism", but is this just a political ploy as he eyes the seat in the White House? Touting the phrase, "Where Woke Goes To Die", the bills that he and the majority Republicans in the House and Senate in Florida are pushing forward reeks of a new day of authoritanarism in America.

This episode is special to me, as this was the first podcast episode I did by myself. I was a guest on my friend's podcast-Be Awaykenned. With her encouragement and a push from family, I launched The Conversation Peace. I explore certain intersectionality's and share my observations about the world and society through the eyes of a Black, Muslim, Woman. This is a video essay and it slightly veers from the original which debuted on September 30, 2020.
In the last section-Woman, me and my friend have a frank and raw discussion on the aftermath of Roe vs. Wade being overturned. The conversation wasn't planned, it was our raw emotional feelings at the time, my apologies in advance for any hurt feelings, but this issue is more complex and layered than how some of the laws are being legislated.

In this episode me and my young guest discuss our thoughts around 2021's Astroworld tragedy, the music festival that was the brainchild of rapper Travis Scott. Ten people tragically lost their lives as a result of the event, while hundreds more were injured. The victims were: John Hilgert, 14; Franco Patino, 21; Brianna Rodriguez, 16; Danish Baig, 27; Rudy Pena, 23; Jacob Jurinek, 20; Axel Acosta, 21; Madison Dubiski, 23; Bharti Shahani, 22; and Ezra Blount, 9.
Why hold a concert of that magnitude in the middle of a pandemic where people were clearly not social distancing, and also given Scott's track record of inciting reckless behavior of his concert goers who will be held accountable for this tragedy?

The rapper T-Pain said something profound about media that I found enlightening. You know who controls the media? Listen and find out. I also purposefully took audio clips from my podcast and edited them in a way to evoke an emotion because I want to prove a point, but my intention is earnest. I can't say that about mainstream media. This is the same mechanism that news organizations use, especially those that control information. They will either share it honesty and inform you of what is going on, or misinform you and get you all in your feelings- that is why an informed citizen is dangerous.

Part 2 of Brandi's reflections on overcoming her addiction to drugs. I also share a journal entry from 2018 about standing in judgment of people.
"There are 3 methods of gaining wisdom. The first is reflection, which is the highest, the second is limitation, which is the easiest, the third is experience, which is the bitterest." - Confucius; "I am what time, circumstance, history have made of me, certainly, but I am also much more than that. So are we all." - James Baldwin

The "WAR" on drugs may have sounded nice when Nixon made that declaration back in 1971, and when Reagan echoed that sentiment in the 80's, but the war on drugs for some people is a real struggle. My guest this week is my sister-in-law Brandi, an ex drug addict who recounts times in her life where her addiction got the better of her, and her journey to overcome her habit. This is part one of a two part episode. I hope you find it enlightening.

A fun zoom chat with my friend Nia, where we are talking about nothing in particular-but everything that seemed relevant at the time. Shark Week, Karen(s), Cancel Culture, Coronavirus, and the fact that Nia might have a "stolen" dog. He cute though, I wrote a song about, like to hear it, here it go...but you have to listen to the podcast. Wink.

Hello again. Season 3, episode two continues to bring the heat as my friend and guest, AJ discusses how he is learning how to love himself and his identity. He also wants to the black church to own up to their discriminatory habits of shunning their gay congregants; which leads to his feelings on Lil Nas X, and as the biggest Patti Labelle fan on Earth (he will come at you if you say anything negative about her), he answers the question as who would dethrone Aretha Franklin as the Queen of Soul.
*Disclaimer: The audio in this episode as I mention in the introduction is a bit hard to hear at times.

We talk on a variety of topics surrounding relationships and our involvement within those relationships-friendship, sisterhood, emotional, spiritual, etc. We talk honestly about being survivors of sexual assault and how we were able to push through it, in an effort for someone else to hear and help them heal their wounds. We also discuss our fathers, overcoming adversity, and how to build lasting relationships.

We did it again, another one in the books. This season I covered a wide range of topics-some serious (The I's Have It-Insurrection, Impeachment, and Inauguration) and some fun (Black Listen Listen To K-pop?), but regardless of the topic at hand, I try and remain humble and open. During Black History Month, episodes 4 through 7, I tried to highlight black achievement with some names not heard of-Claudette Colvin, anyone? This season also was the premiere of Black Diamonds, a future YouTube channel in the making with co-diamonds-CeeCee and Kevin. We don't back away from controversial topics, and we don't all agree with the topic at hand, and that's fine, that's how we learn as people. It is however our mission to open up some dialogue amongst like minded individuals in the world who want to make a change.
CeeCee asked me a profound question the other day, "Who am I talking to?" Like I state in my introduction, I love podcasting and do it as a hobby. I don't get paid for this. My reward is having people, regardless of the geography, taking the time to listen and hopefully see these topics with another perspective in mind. We as people at the end of the day are the sum totals of our experiences, and that often times shapes our views, but your own view doesn't equate as the only one. If we share ourselves with each other honesty, then maybe we can tackle some of society ills that plague us as a human race. That is what I will be contemplating one as I take a break from my podcast. I want to finetune The Conversation Peace.
Who am I talking to? I am on a journey, and I want to take you along, so bare with me and wish me luck. Inshallah, I will be back and share with you soon. As-Salaam Alaikum (Peace be with you).

Black Diamonds-CeeCee, Kevin, and myself-Aquila are about to scorch the Earth with another round of sizzling conversation. In this episode we don't hold back as we discuss politics, religion, protest groups, segregation, and as my girl CeeCee says, "Slavery!!" Like I state in the introduction, some topics need to be addressed in order to bring an awareness, a reckoning, and hopefully reflection and change. "We can't afford to walk in the dark anymore, the lights need to be turned on."

I have a conversation with a youth of today about a wide range of topics. It has been edited for time, but her perspective and outlook on her young life is in part refreshing, and in some parts heartbreaking-as she is being reflective on social issues such as black lives matter that she finds herself in the midst of. This is part one of our conversation.
