Commit To Memory is a podcast about the correlation between music and memory. Music has the distinct power of transcending the listener to the time and place in which it was first heard. A song can release a floodgate of sensory and memory associations: memories of things long forgotten and loved ones long gone.Commit to Memory will focus primarily on the elderly whose voices are often unheard and whose stories are untold; to understand our present and future we must look to our past.It will serve as a documentation of their origins, upbringing, and life accompanied by the soundtrack that made it.
This week, I continue my conversation with my grandmother Nilda and we're joined by my mother Vilma. She helps facilitate the memories and music of my grandmother's life and shares stories of her own upbringing.
Welcome to Episode 1 of Commit To Memory the podcast! Join me as I begin this journey with a stroll down memory lane with my grandmother, Nilda Fontanez, as she recounts her childhood and adolescence in Humacao, Puerto Rico and life thereafter.
