My guest this week is Angela Ryan a retired Pharmacist and has been in Al-anon for 16 years.

She was married to an alcoholic and when she noticed the children were showing unusual signs of stress she realized she had to leave the marriage.

Angela remarried John, who now has 35 years of sobriety. Her teenage son is a well adjusted teenager who has grown up with the power of living with the principles in the 12 step program.

Program language is their family language as they support each other in life and love. Not every family member is involved in recovery however, you can only provide the tools. You can’t force or control others who are on their own path.

Angela spends her spare time as a treasurer for the Connecticut State Nationals organization.

Solo Episode by Maureen Ross Gemme

In 2017, Paul and I took the most incredible trip in my life so far. It was across this beautiful country on a motorcycle (I mean trike) from Connecticut to California and back again. It took almost 6 weeks in total. There were 4 parts of the trip. The second part of the trip was with 80 other adventurers on 60 motorcycles, traveling on old Route 66, affectionately called the Mother Road, on the backroads of America.

In this episode, Maureen is going to cover the 15 Leadership Lessons Learned from Mother Road Rally Master, George Higgins who sadly passed away in April of 2022. But his legacy will never be forgotten.

Don't delay in making big plans in your life. Keep growing and expanding into the leader you know you can be and enjoy every minute of it.

My guest this week is Karyn Seitz. Karen found that on her journey in life she became almost addicted to spirituality and she lost herself for a time while searching for happiness. She eventually found her happiness by connecting with her Inner Self, her Higher Self and that’s when she found a genuine relationship with her Higher Power whom she calls God.

Karyn Seitz - The Happiness Mentor

As a former spiritual healer, Karyn realized her clients were not getting better. She was frustrated that she could not deliver the results her clients wanted even though she was trying lots of different healing modalities and coaching techniques. Karyn knew she also wasn’t getting the changes she wanted in her life. She secretly lacked confidence in her ability to change. Her adult life had stalled. In a fresh new search for answers, Karyn found the missing piece that would ultimately transform her life and her clients. There is something very profound in owning that she is the problem in her life. This awareness pushed her to confront herself and get serious about herself and her life. Karyn is now fulfilled in her life and teaches others the same journey she has taken to find herself and be happy.

My guest this week is Lindsey Ellison. Lindsey is a relationship coach, who helps people discover their breakthroughs in their breakup. Her breakups were a catalyst for self-discovery and with insightful reflection, she identified her own destructive relationship patterns. She had a co-dependency relapse and came to surrender in a whole new way to reach the freedom she now has. She learned that the love addict’s greatest fear is that of abandonment with an underlying fear of intimacy.

Lindsey believes that all breakups (and divorces) are a catalyst for self-discovery. She specializes in childhood trauma, codependency, communicating with narcissists, and high conflict relationships.

Lindsey is an international best seller of her book, MAGIC Words: How to Get What You Want from a Narcissist, TEDx speaker, and also host of her highly-rated podcast, Unbreakable You: Break up Without Being Broken.

My guest today is Doug Dolan who has been sober for over 25 years now and is a role model for how to go through anything that life has to throw at us and still stay sober through it all. He’s also had lots of achievements that we’ll hear about today.

Doug Dolan began his journey in recovery on April 19, 1997 and has been through many challenges in sobriety including the passing of his brother, Andy, to an overdose, the loss of his closest, childhood friend, Craig, to suicide, to extreme financial highs and lows, almost losing his wife, Donna, to significant health issues, and then managing through significant marital strains. Doug remained sober throughout these extreme ordeals and now shares his experience and practical approach to healing and transformation.

Doug has started and owned a variety of businesses after working his way up through a computer software company to being a VP of Marketing. Halfway thought this meteoric rise to VP he was still a blackout binge drinker and totaled a car as the result of a DUI on a business trip. This is what brought him to his knees and he got the help he needed to quit drinking.

Doug has been married since 2000 and has 3 children (2 biological and 1 adopted), and he is also a devout Christian.

He sits on city and county committees with various heads of law enforcement, courts, attorney's office, undercover LEO, DEA, and other health care professionals. He was part of a small group of selected professionals (the only one in the recovery community) from northern AZ to go through training with the DEA and now participates in events with them, does interviews and speaking engagements in support of their initiatives in Arizona.

My guest today is Mark Resnick and he is the Author of a book called: Ten Days With Dad: Finding Purpose, Passion, & Peace during the darkest days of Alzheimer’s and Covid 19. Today Mark is going to tell us more about his story on the podcast today because I know some of you are dealing with this in life.

Overcoming the challenges of caring for loved ones facing terminal diseases can be very difficult. Then add in cancer and Covid and it’s downright heartbreaking. But through adversity we learn so much. Mark shared over 200 meals with his dad and probably 600 cups of coffee and got to know him at such deep level that the disease turned into the gift.

Mark found ways to be happy, pursued his passion to write, and came to peace with his past, including letting go of regret and forgiving those who hurt him.

His Mom moved out when I was seven and he was raised by my father but he didn’t really get to know him until the end. Mark has written a book about his life, his lessons and how you can benefit from them.

My guest today is Tom Fay, the owner of Gambit Recovery. Tom has opened recovery houses in 6 states, has 11 years of sobriety and is clearly committed to helping others. He’s been sober since September of 2010 and has quite a story to share.

Tom struggled with addiction, self worth and shame and was in and out of detox and treatment centers 22 times over a 10 year period. After a serious suicide attempt and countless more detoxes, he landed in rehab in Mesa, Arizona where he was introduced a few men in detox that helped him to find purpose and meaning. Following their example and borrowing a bit of courage Tom made his first real attempt in recovery and joined a sober house to learn to live. He had been part of sober houses before and he knew how they worked and wanted to make his better. So at the first opportunity he had, he stepped into a house manager position and began his successful career in helping others on the path to recovery and never turned back.

Tom Fay recently started his own company called Gambit Recovery where he is experiencing the freedom to show others that recovery is obtainable and can be long term. Tom is happily married and has two daughters.

You can reach Tom Fay at: www.gambitrecovery.com

My guest today is Charlene Madden who has a pretty new sobriety date, sober since 1/1/22 but she has been in recovery for 5 years and has quite the story to tell. She’s here today to share her message of hope and transformation.

Charlene admittedly spent most of her life living in a state of darkness. After experiencing over 9 years of sexualized trauma at the hands of her grandfather, a decade of domestic violence, and 3+ decades of mental illness and suicidal ideology. She was planning her own suicide when she was doing a friend a favor and attended a women's workshop. What she heard there changed everything. She was able to take off her blinders, begin the healing process, and find her Purpose by turning her Mess into a Message of Hope, Evolution, and Transformation which she is now sharing with people all over the world.

Charlene is married, lives in British Columbia and is the Mother of 3 amazing adult children. She is also a Reiki Practitioner and Women's Empowerment Coach.

Stephan Neff is a doctor of anesthesiology, bestselling author of the book My Steps to Sobriety and hosts a podcast of the same name and has been in recovery since March 2013. Stephan is from Germany but now lives with his family in New Zealand.

After studying medicine in Heidelberg, Dr Neff travelled and worked in Europe and Australia before settling down with his family in beautiful New Zealand. As a retired pain physician, he developed a specific insight into human psychology. As a man trying to drown his sorrows, he found out the hard way that the critters can swim.

Now he makes every day a little bit better than the last. Today Stephan is an expert in living a life so fantastic, that alcohol has simply no role to play. He shares this passion through his podcast and YouTube channel STEPS TO SOBRIETY - INTO THE LIGHT. In his book "Steps to Sobriety" he shares the lessons he has learned as a doctor and as a man. And the truth is simple - The past does not equal the future. Every addict can turn their life around, one little decision at a time.

My guest today is Ann Hince. She grew up with an alcoholic mom and experienced a trauma that no one should have to go through. But eventually, it lead to great healing within her that changed her life in every way. Ann is here to share her story of transformation, hope and healing.

From Inner Turmoil to Inner Peace. Ann started with little to no self-awareness (as an adult child of alcoholics) and now can put her awareness inside her body, and this technique has actually shifted the physical bone structure of her skull and she has grown 1/2 an inch as a 55 year old.

When Ann was 19, she woke one morning to find her mother dead in her bathroom. Twenty years later the tears from that trauma were still just under the surface. Ann found a simple technique that helped her release these emotions. She went further still by putting her awareness inside her body and has changed the bone structure of her skull and grown ½ an inch at age 55. Ann has found that seeking out our truth, what we truly feel, and accepting those feelings, is the key to inner peace.

My guest this week is Sarah Laurel, Born and raised in Philadelphia she founded a non profit organization called the Savage Sisters. Sarah got clean and sober and then she got to work and in just 4 short years has advocated for and helped many addicts, and Savage Sisters offer 5 sober living facilities for women.

Since getting sober, Sarah has been reconnected with her two children, gotten married, opened five additional sober living facilities, and advocated for individuals in recovery statewide. She has also buried a partner, lost two best friends, and a cousin to overdoses and have been in trauma therapy to recover. She has positive hope for the future knowing the best is yet to come.

When Sarah was thrown out a window, her hip and leg were broken and she was cut out of a dress she was wearing that had the word “Savage” printed on it. She looked up that word while in the hospital and the definition was “ferocious” and she decided to be ferocious in chasing sobriety in equal measure to how she chased her drugs and the Savage Sisters name was born.

Savage Sisters are looking for donations and you can give here:

He’s accomplished so much in his 43 years of sobriety and is a film producer of Shattering the Silence of this epidemic we call substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health issues in dealing with life. And today we’re going to talk about the reducing the stigma and the recovery process of families.

Perry Gaidurgis (oldest of eight children) was released in 1979 from the Southern Maryland Correctional Camp after serving three years of an eight year sentence for an eight dollar armed robbery. I believe that we all have a purpose in the world to reach our highest potential. As I coach and train leaders to get to that next level of personal and professional development, no one would disagree that the best way to do that is to fully and effectively use our brain and our mental capacity.

However few people can name and properly explain what their metal faculties are, so I created a solo podcast episode to explain them too you.

There are six of them and they are:

· Imagination

· Intuition

· Reason

· Perception

· Memory

· Will

It’s not surprising that so few people understand how to use their brains properly. I learned this from Bob Proctor, a highly successful entrepreneur.

When I went to college and began to understand how people learn a lot of it has to do with these higher brain functions. I also realized in my recovery that my mind is one of the most powerful resources and hindrances that I have, depending on how I use it. Now I teach others to use it too.

No matter what stage of recovery you are in, it will help you perhaps to change your perception about how powerful your brain and you, are.

We must learn to use all of the higher levels of thinking in the mind so that we can make the most of this one precious life that we have.

As Bob Proctor says: “To achieve your goals and dreams and create the life you want, you must stop focusing on external facts—things you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell—even if you consider them to be “good.”

That is thinking from the outside in and, at best, it limits you to what you’ve achieved in the past. At worst, it sabotages any chance you have at achieving your dreams.

Instead, you’ve got to start thinking from the inside out. Thinking from the inside out is using your mental faculties, starting with imagining what you want and then using your will to keep your attention there.

It’s listening to and acting on your intuition, the small inner voice and seeing the good in everything.

And it’s creating future memories and continually seeing and feeling like the person you want to be.

Each time you do those things, you plant your desire in the garden of your subconscious mind. With increasing repetitions, the image becomes fixed there.

And then, by law, it’s only a matter of time before it moves into form.”

We are co-creators in this amazing world and now that we’re in recovery, the skies the limit on what we can create.

If you want help in meeting your goals with a coach this year, please get on my calendar to talk about it and see if we should work together. You can do that online by going to: maureenrg.youcanbook.me and pick a time that works for you.

Happy New Year to each and every one of you!

My guest today is Kelvin Young, a certified Sound Healer, and owner of Kelvin Young, LLC. He is also a person in sustained recovery which means Kelvin hasn't used alcohol or any other drug to cope with his mental and emotional distress since March, 6th 2009. Kelvin received his recovery coaching training at CT Community for Addiction Recovery. and his Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) certification at Recovery University. (Advocacy Unlimited) He is also trained in Intentional Peer Support (IPS) and Emotional CPR. (eCPR)

Kelvin wrote this poem in prison:

"The Eyes Of A Silent Son" by Kelvin Young

Look into my eyes, and tell me what you see.

Is it a lost soul with no control trying to be free?

As I look into the mirror and stare into my eyes,

I see all the anger and self-hate, hypocrisy and lies.

I see resentment, frustration, embarrassment and pain,

I see jail bars and fancy cars as I cruise down memory lane.

I see the feelings I repressed, going back to childhood.

I need to let go of all those feelings, and I would if I could.

I see the hurt I caused to the ones I love the most.

I see my brother on his wedding day as we celebrate with a toast.

I see the good and the bad times that I experienced in my life.

But it’s so hard to let go of all that bitterness and strife.

There’s a sense of sadness when you look into my eyes.

Like the ones you see when a close relative dies.

But this death is not physical; it has to do with the soul.

It’s that morbid feeling we get when our spiritual energy is low.

It’s like nothing matters anymore, like that day when I was fired,

Feeling depressed and weak, I can't sleep, but I’m so tired.

I’m tired of all the pain, the hurt and the rain.

From that cloud that keeps following me, sometimes I think I’m insane.

But when I look out my window and see the beauty of the lake.

It reminds me of good times, like when I was nine and things were fine.

And with the sunrise I feel the presence of the Creator.

When I look out my window, I see me in the beauty of nature.

I’m a part of God’s creation, nature and humanity!

The loving spirit that’s in Jesus is also in me!

So I’ve learned to love myself and others just for who we are.

And I learned about this love looking out my window with jail bars.

Welcome back to the Emerge. Evolve. Lead. podcast. My guest this week is Charlie Gray. Charlie is a gentle soul who struggled quite a bit with this disease and now, sober about 18 months, he shares and incredible story of hope for those of you that are worried about a friend or family member that just can’t seem to get it.

Charlie has an amazing story because he has been through many dry-out facilities and psychiatric wards before finally surrendering. Charlie has great advice for those of you that want to start writing your own stories or book.

After being in 54 treatment facilities for alcoholism, one skinny gay boy chronicles his journey of finding sobriety and his identity. Relapse is so important to Charlie! We brush over it, treat it like the plague, or just don't speak about it. Charlie wants to spread his message of hope and to remind addicts to just keep trying and to parents or siblings who are worried about their loved ones – don’t give up on them.

You can reach Charlie here and find out more about his newly published book

Today my guest is Mark Delaney who has overcome an addiction to food. We’re going to hear his story and talk about freedom and living your bold life on purpose.

Mark says: My wife and I have always had a passion for helping people. For most of my life I felt knew I wanted to help people, and I tried, but I felt like I was failing at it. I had a problem that was holding me back. Food. I was eating myself to death. When I finally faced that lifelong problem, it changed my life. Facing my problem gave me a superpower for helping others. We have since developed a course called "The Purpose Mastermind." This course enables people to clarify their purpose and also find the freedom to live it out boldly. We have been honored to help people all over the world be able to finish the ultimate life sentence, "My purpose is.....!"

Mark is offering our listeners a free 10 day course called “How to Change”. You can access that course by texting the word “change” to this number: 918-401-9608

You can find Mark Delaney here:

Leadership for Parents

Intro: My guest today is Aaron Huey, sober since 1998 and he is an EXPERT on helping parents be better leaders especially to teens. He is passionate about helping all parents have the tools to be a LOT more effective. He is also a podcaster and has an inexpensive app that can make your life a lot better! I’m so excited for you to hear Aaron’s story.

Aaron Huey, sober since May 21, 1998. Within a short time in sobriety, Aaron was working with kids at a summer camp and was named Assistant Director of the company. In 2004 Aaron became an instructor of Enlightened Warrior Training Camp and became familiar with architypes and from that work began running rites of passage programs for teens. He began coaching parents of teens that used and taking those kids to camps.

In 2012 Aaron and his wife took in their first troubled teen from a parent who needed help. Word got around and within a week they had taken in six kids to mentor in a sober-living home. In a short period of time they created a center for fulltime sober living situation for teens from age 12-17. This was an award winning facility and successful 4 month residential treatment program for boys dealing with addiction, self-harm, depression, anxiety, mental health issues, behavior issues, adoption trauma and those on the spectrum. Unfortunately they had to shut down due to insurance cost escalation issues because of the wildfire problem in the state of Colorado.

But Aaron is not done serving. Oh no! Listen to Aaron’s podcast called Beyond Risk and Back for parents of teens that are struggling.

Check out the free FB page called: Parenting Teens that Struggle

Aaron also has an app teaching everything he knows for $36. You can find out more information at his website at: brabapp.com

In this solo episode I tell the story of how the worst day of my life became the BEST day of my life at the tender young age of 11. I explain that it sometimes takes adopting other people's mindsets to shift into a better place emotionally.

In this podcast I'll also reveal the 8 mindsets that make up our emotional intelligence and how to discover which ones you may naturally fall into and how and why you should step out of your comfort zone once in a while.

Before you listen you should take the quiz to find out what animal best represents your leadership style. This will tell you what personality type you have so you can understand which mindsets are more natural for you and which ones you may want to practice.

Go to: www.emergeleadershipacademy.com to take the quiz, check out the Recovery@Work program, review the Personality@Work classes I offer and hire me for a speaking engagement or workshop.

D. Neil Elliott read all kinds of self-help books in the years that he felt depressed and nothing seemed to be working in his life. It didn’t seem to matter what he tried because nothing helped the negative thoughts or outlook he had. It took 7 years to sell his house and get unstuck from some financial problems and when it finally sold, he realized that even that wasn’t going to help. At this dark time in his life, he considered suicide and actually wrote the note. But he has just gotten a new book and decided to give this one more book a chance. And it worked. He internalized what he read and within one year from that date, he was happy, enjoying life, he looked at people differently, and his whole outlook had changed.

Now Neil has written his own book: The Higher Road: Cleanse Your Consciousness to Transcend the Ego and Ascend Spiritually and offers a seven step process that will help you with a spiritual transformation that will change your life. You can get Neil’s book on Amazon here.

You can reach Neil here.

Susanne is a wellness coach with a large medical group, a yoga instructor, a recovery coach, a triathlete, and mother of 2 kids ages 17 & 20. She works with clients to build healthy habits and coping skills, and is currently back in school for another Master's, in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Susanne stopped drinking to improve her health and become more aligned with her values. She was a triathlete and a coach and doing a lot in the community but she felt like she had a big secret with the drinking. Her kids were at an impressionable age and they were getting messages about how bad alcohol is for you and yet the parents were still drinking. It seems to be pervasive in the media that it’s okay to drink but it wasn’t sitting right with her but she had no role models of non drinking fun people at the time. It became obvious that it wasn’t fitting in with her healthy lifestyle and after noticing how tired it was making her, she decided she wanted to experience her body alcohol free and 5 ½ years later she is still going.

Episode 31 Why You Will Rock As A Leader with Maureen Ross Gemme, MS Ed and CEO of Emerge Leadership Academy LLC

Today I’m doing a solo episode about this topic that is why I’m doing what I’m doing and even running a business in the first place. Because I believe that we need better leaders in the world and I also believe that people in recovery have already developed some of the BEST leadership skills in life. I believe this because I’ve been training leadership skills to supervisors, managers and directors in many different types of companies for years now.

Once we give up our addiction and get into recovery we begin to do the hard work of feeling our feelings and dealing with life on a daily basis. No more escaping, but instead, beginning to use the tools of recovery to shape ourselves and our lives into something MUCH different.

After doing the work, we help others. We love seeing people grow and many of us, step into leadership roles in order to do that.

Listen to this episode to see if you have what it takes to lead others.

My guest today is my life partner Paul Gemme. Paul got sober in 1985 when he turned 38 yrs old and his whole life changed in every way. In recovery he was able to get in touch with his creativity and after helping people get clean and sober for 15 years as a counselor, he picked up many other skills along the way. He learned to build drums and flutes, then canoes, kayaks and other boats while becoming a leader in the non-profit world. In more recent years he’s turned to photography, motorcycle touring and bread making because the creativity never ends.

You can reach Paul on his FB photo blog called Barns Along the Way.

You can find the book that Paul was a co-author for here: Practice: Wisdom from the Downward Dog, where he tells the story about dealing with the loss of his beloved sister to cancer and what she asked him to do.

My guest today is Peter Faulk, a man of many talents, a director of marketing, a father, a musician and sober for over 8 years now. Peter is also the creator of Soberworld.org and is on a mission to raise the awareness of the disease and its side effects as well as educating young people BEFORE it becomes a go-to fix for what ails them.

Soberworld was created to sustain his recovery outside of the meeting world so he wanted to have something that was part of his every day mindset and thinking. It’s was a way to give back and keep the focus going in a positive direction.

The whole project has morphed into the building of a message and a methodology to help the world and society with this huge problem of underage usage of drugs and alcohol. We loose 3 million people globally to death by alcohol. In the USA we loose close to around 90K each year to alcohol related deaths. Peter was researching the fundamental cause and he came to understand that all of our fixes are on the backend of the disease instead of before it starts.

Peter came to the realization that we basically have a thinking problem before we ever get a drinking problem. Soberworld is helping to educate the younger generation about this very addictive substance we pump into our brains to hyperstimulate our brains which happens to be to their detriment. Not to mention the HUGE financial impact which you’ll hear about in this very interesting episode.

You can find Peter at www.Soberworld.org

This episode is a solo podcast where I share a couple of stories about having faith and what I believe faith is and why it has served me so well.

My first story is about how I met my husband when he figuratively and literally planted a seed in my heart long before we fell in love. It was a miracle, how it happened, and now faith is the foundation of our relationship. On our wedding invitation, we had the words “Walking with God in the Service of Love and Truth.”

The next story is about how I asked God for help in deciding how to change my life and improve it for the better. First I got a direct message from a very unlikely animal spirit guide and after I followed the advice The Universe tested my faith by throwing many obstacles in my path which changed me spiritually, emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially. Crazy scary year in 2001. Then it happened again in 2013 & 2014. And again in 2020 and 2021, the year of the pandemic.

We will get through this and we will be stronger! But ONLY if we stay connected and have faith. I can show you how.

Sober since she was 24 years old, my guest Marin Nelson, chose the road of recovery 15 years ago. Marin has created an awesome life for herself which has impacted many others. She, along with 3 other sober leaders at SalesForce created an affinity group at work called SoberForce which now has almost 300 members! This is a huge breakthrough to eliminate the stigma of alcoholism and is a fantastic model for others organizations to follow suit.

Marin is a wonderful example of how recovery can add so much to your career and provide so much wisdom when and if you choose to step into Leadership. Her career path has been a steady climb up the ladder in sales and then into a leadership role in Salesforce where the culture and the values are in alignment with who she is. She started as an individual contributor and has since accepted a position as the Regional Vice President. She leans heavily on the work she has done in recovery which translates well in leadership skills. Skills such as empathy, authenticity, listening, core values, and providing service to others which have built deep trust within her team.

You can find Marin Nelson on LinkedIn here. Please contact Marin if you’d like to create a Sober Affinity group at YOUR company. She can help you.

My guest today is Kenneth whom I met on LinkedIn after seeing a post that went viral where he was celebrating his 4 years clean and sober. Kenneth got in trouble after getting out of the military because he became addicted to cocaine so he could drink more, and began dealing it. He says that going to prison was the best thing that ever happened to him because he was able to focus on his personal growth and create a vision for his future company.

Kenneth is 4 years sober and currently, the President of Ameriton Freight & Logistics, a professional freight brokerage firm providing logistics services for businesses in the US and Canada where he started in 2020 after being in the industry since 2001. His purpose is to fill lives with optimism and work to engender positive self-worth and believes that every person has a purpose and wants to help them see that for themselves by providing his personal stories of hardship, failure, and the reinvention of himself to guide them away from negativity and toxic environments.

My guest today is a Breakthrough Coach, and her name is Molly Nichole Murphy. Molly’s been sober since 2014 and she’s been helping women in sales and entrepreneurs that are in high ticket sales to have breakthroughs in their life and business.

Molly shares how she finally faced her own shadow self and learned to dive deep into her own humanity even though she started off in her program as Little Miss Perfect. Over a period of time in sobriety, she was led into a transformational training program where she was able to break through all of her own self-limiting beliefs and saw what she was capable of achieving, and realized she could help other people find their purpose and help them uncover what they were capable of doing.

You can find Molly Nichole Murphy on Instagramhereand she’d love for you to join herFacebook ReCreate Recovery Group for women.

My guest today is Dan Reeves, whom I met on Clubhouse a few months ago and, he also has a podcast called The Spiritual Underground in which he featured me and my story just recently.

Dan had a corporate career as an engineer for most of his adult life but alcoholism took him down a dark road. Threatened with 6-20 years of incarceration, he had the gift of desperation and turned his life over to God. His sentence was reduced to 1 year at home and now he’s stepped into leadership running a men’s retreat and helping many in recovery.

Dan shares how important it is to be vulnerable so that your support group really “sees” you and can be there to support you. And when you do that and turn, your will and your life over to a Higher Power of your understanding, miraculous things happen. This is why he never ended up serving that prison sentence that he was promised. And his WHOLE life changed.

Dan points out that our life situations seem to resolve as soon as we change the old beliefs of feeling that there are limits or things that can’t happen. Now he works with people in recovery to help them change their beliefs because he KNOWS that everything just works out when you believe that your HP works in your life for Good.

If you want to tell your story on Spiritual Underground, you can go toSpiritualunderground.orgor you can reach Dan atdan@spiritualunderground.org

My guest on the podcast today is Vikki Rood, a sober leader who is helping high-performing women who are overworked, step into their best lives and create space for themselves without feeling guilty.

Vikki is a certified coach specializing in women's empowerment and she really has great energy in her because she LOVES people! She is also a mom, an author and podcast co-host on the podcast calledTelling On Ourselves.

My guest today is Facilitator, Speaker and Author, Jesse Harless, sober since Dec 2005. As CEO of Entrepreneurs in Recovery®, he facilitates highly experiential online and in-person events that help individuals and organizations harness their strengths and create purposeful visions. Jesse also holds a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rivier University, a HeartMath® certified trainer, and XCHANGE faculty member.

His addict dad left when he was 4 and it affected Jesse very deeply. To cope, he turned to online gaming, and pornography was his first addiction as a teenager. Then at college, his drinking began in earnest and it was very clear he was drinking in excess and quickly fell into hardcore drug addiction. Life got very dark for a while as he began ordering narcotics through the US mail and eventually got caught.

Jesse was facing 7-14 years in federal prison and it scared him straight into 12 step programs and therapy. He became fully immersed in recovery and was able to overcome panic disorder and heal other trauma from his life by using daily practices that he talks about in his book If Not You, Then Who? Harness Your Strengths To Shift From Addiction to Abundance.

Now, Jesse is a professional facilitator to help others become Recovery Coaches and is deeply immersed in spreading the message that recovery is possible.

In this solo episode, I am sharing a way to get to know yourself better with a topic near and dear to my heart: Personality. It’s helpful to ALL people, not just sober people, to really understand what motivates you and what stresses you out. There is a direct relationship between how much I understand why I make choices, what motivates me and where my weaknesses lie, to how I’ve made decisions in and for my career.

And if you’ve ever worked a 12 step program then you will find many clues in your 4th step work on what kind of personality you have. And the character defects we discover can also be overcome the more you work on yourself, accept who you are, and allow your Higher Power to help remove those defects. Being aware of them is the first step. You will change over time, in recovery and in maturity.

Note: even though I sometimes say I'm an expert, I am STILL finding things to work on in myself. The growth really never stops! So long as you are willing to expand beyond your comfort zone, then there will be personal growth opportunities. And of course, then we can help others along the way so much better and quicker. Not just by being a role model, but by mentoring, sponsoring and leaders others to their greatness.

Note: The music you hear at the beginning and end of each podcast was created by my professional musician bother, Paul G. Ross. His company is called Pan Go and you can find him on YouTube Paul Graham Ross. Thanks Paul!

Ginger and I met through networking 6 months ago and we got to catch up a bit in this episode. I am so amazed by how much a person can accomplish when sober! Ginger has done exactly that. Sober since October of 2019, she works as a Recovery Coach facilitator, has written a book, and designed a process to help others with their transformation. There is SO much happening in the country to help people in recovery and people like Ginger are at the forefront.

As a leader, Ginger is not only educating people in recovery on how to be a Recovery Coach, she is also spending time educating the police force, superior court personnel, parole officers and other law enforcement folks so they can more effectively deal with addicts who get into trouble with the law. Yay! We need more people like her!

Ginger is the Founder of Choices Recovery Training and you can find out more about her soon to be released book, “My Choices, My Life” by visiting her at Gingerross.com

Have you been in a situation that you just can’t seem to handle, and before you know it, you already see yourself dependent on alcohol or any other substance just to feel at ease?

For this week’s podcast episode, I was able to have a Nurse Practitioner who’s also a friend from my home group, Michelle Steele, as a guest. Michelle found herself divorced and alone with 2 children after another failed relationship. With 2 small children and a pile of responsibilities as a single parent, the stress got worse; and so did her drinking before it finally came to a boiling point and she got the help she needed. Still, the struggles continued. But now, after 3 years of sobriety, she is on track for another degree and in a leadership position in her practice.

Listening to this episode will let you find out how she had an amazing transformation.

If you’d like to contact Michelle you can reach her at: michellesteeles72@gmail.com.

My guest today is Mary Justine Hockenberry (MJ), a mother and student in life who never stopped growing even 26 years into sobriety. She is a public servant and is an elected official in her town of South Windsor CT as a town councilor. MJ is also a great example of how much adversity a person can go through in recovery and still stay sober.

She learned to stick with the women who stepped up and carried her through a deep crisis early in her recovery. Then she took her doctor’s advice and went back to college to heal a brain injury. This path led to many volunteer opportunities and then a step up into leadership in government. MJ has great wisdom to share and is a powerful example of all you can do when you stay sober and keep growing.

If you’d like to contact MJ you can reach her by email at: foxglove810@gmail.com.

I recently had my 36 year sober anniversary. The podcast today is a recording of a Facebook live I broadcasted on that day. I share a little bit about my journey in recovery and what I am doing now in my business. I’m launching a webinar this week on How to Decide if you should stay at your job or if you should leave it. It’s a great program if I do say so myself. However, I’m in the middle of trying to get all the technical issues ironed out with email nurture sequences, a new website with landing pages and all the software tools I need. So one of the things I had to do was purchase Zoom Webinar addon and in the process of trying to make it work, I had to put in a support ticket and guess what, it got hijacked. So in this episode I’m going to share with you what happened, how I dealt with it and a little bit about the Masterclass I’m facilitating and who it for.

Feel free to sign up for the Webinar Should I Stay Or Should I Go? This Masterclass is running Feb 8, 13 and 16th, 2021. Click the link for more details.

Today, I’m interviewing Janine Gutstein who is a dear friend from my home group. She has been sober since May 19, 2007 and is a recent graduate of my Recovery@Work program. Janine had been unemployed when she started the program but has since found a great job AND got herself back into nursing school so she can make a bigger impact.

Janine had a very challenging road in the beginning of sobriety because she and her husband were both struggling with addiction and juggling a high life profile with multiple homes and he had a high profile career as a TV Chef personality. But when the disease caught up with him and he lost his job, she knew the marriage was over because she needed to get sober and he was in the way of that. Then everything came crashing down around her with the loss of her children when he took them and left her while she was at the dog park! Then she almost lost her life when she relapsed. However, Janine miraculously awakened with a renewed determination to not only stay sober, but to get her children back.

This is an amazing comeback story of someone who lost everything but with a program of recovery was able to raise a family of three as a single mom and step into a new role as leader because she has a love of serving others. Janine is now working as an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and is back in school to get her RN (Registered Nurse) degree so she can make a bigger impact.

Do you often find yourself in situations where you are overwhelmed or scared, and you hear yourself saying in your mind “I can’t do this?” Maybe you don’t think you are competent enough or you’re afraid to fail and wonder what people will think of you? These are actually beliefs that you’d be better off changing. Your thoughts are the only thing you actually have complete control (truth). You get to decide what you believe and I believe that when you do this, you can create ANYTHING you want in this world!

In this week’s solo podcast episode, I share a story about how I became a manager overnight, with no training, during a horrible lonely time in my life which turned out to be my bottom. Not a good time for a promotion right? But I learned so much because not only was I able to get sober, it was clear that many of my beliefs had to change. Hidden Beliefs will reveal themselves as you continue to see what shows up for you in your life. If you don’t like what you see and experience, there is an underlying belief you have that needs to change if you want a different future. As your beliefs get better, your life gets better!

After what happened at the US Capital last week, I am more focused than ever on helping good people step up into leadership roles in every area of life. How we deal with each other in conflict will always bring out our true colors. How do you deal with conflicts?

One of the blessings of working with leaders who are working on themselves is that they always look at their part and try to release their defects of character.

Self-reflection and self-growth is the first step in being a good leader AND also it’s practicing spirituality. I believe that the healing of relationships is the art of being spiritual. And it’s by listening, keeping an open mind, and having some emotional intelligence to go within, and to listen for guidance, before we go making decisions in conflict.

In this 6th episode of the podcast we’ll hear from Jim McLoughlin who shows us the way of integrating his spirituality into his leadership practice. Jim is celebrating 31 years of sobriety this week! He has served as a leader for many of those years as a Firefighter and then in a senior role in a CT town in an emergency management leadership position. He has some great wisdom to share.

If you’d like to reach out to Jimmy Mac, you can email him at: cthonorguard@gmail.com.

Happy New Year! This is our 1st episode of 2021

In this 5th episode, I’m chatting with an old colleague and friend in recovery, Jeff Rock. You’ll be interested to hear 3 specific questions you should ask yourself before you get into leadership. And when you can align your behaviors with your values, that is the feeling of heaven on earth.

You know you need a transformation when you get clean and sober and Jeff is an example of being able to reinvent yourself at any time in life. It’s all about how do you rewrite the story in your head so that you can view it and see it differently. This will create quantum shifts in not only your understanding of who you are but also in figuring out who you can be.

If you’d like to connect with Jeff Rock you can find him on LinkedIn; you can email him at 4dogsnow@gmail.com or feel free to text him at 413-668-8433.

Jeff also had a podcast called The Next Step with Jeff Rock a few years back and you can listen HERE.

It’s New Year’s Eve 2020! This is also the day that some of us alcoholics (past and present) call amateur night because all the people who don’t know how to drink end up getting trashed and driving. Yikes! So glad I’m not there anymore!

It’s a good time of the year to take inventory of what you’ve accomplished and make plans for the new year ahead.

In this 4th episode, I share my insights on challenges we have encountered during the pandemic; and mostly, how you can emerge as a leader and improve your skills. You already have done so much work on yourself in recovery.

I believe that many of us have thrived because we take full responsibility for our lives and our mental health now. For some of us, it take 3-5 years (or more) to really clear out the cobwebs. But if a person gets pulled into service work, or if it’s just innate in their personality to help and work with others, then the self-centered will slip away much quicker.

You know that the biggest challenges you’ve overcome in your life have been the biggest blessings, right?

So when you get these concepts, own your shadow, take the obstacles as they show up, and use all the tools you’ve learned in the program, you can easily step up into leadership because you have learned the most essential skills. In this show, I’ll review more than 20 leadership skills you learned in recovery. If you are interested in taking your own inventory of these skills, click this link to download a worksheet I created for you.

Until next week, stay safe, (and sober, of course), and think about all the people you can help with the awesome skills you learned in recovery.

This is our 3rd episode, and my guest today is Karen Perham-Lippman who is a dynamic executive and mission-driven business strategist with demonstrated results in diversity, equity and inclusion, corporate social responsibility, community outreach and consumer services in public, government, nonprofit and academic organizations. Karen now lives in Colorado with her twin boys and has one son in college.

We met in the rooms over 10 years when she lived in Connecticut and I have seen her grow into an incredible leader. First as a single parent of her children, then as a sponsor and volunteer in both the sober and non-profit community; and then, by expanding on those skills she developed in recovery, she advanced step by step, into senior leadership in her corporate career.

Karen has been clean and sober since August 31, 2005. And I am delighted to welcome her today to share her insight and wisdom.

Things you will learn in this episode:

  • The first time she struggled with addiction and the consequences that came with it
  • How marriage and having children made her decide to face her fears and leave what was holding her back from being her best Self
  • The day she fully committed and embraced sobriety
  • How long took for her to emerge into leadership
  • The key to success in her recovery
  • How power dynamics in bosses with narcissism provided challenges but made her a better leader
  • How she has been able to overcome some of the negative aspects of her personality
  • Karen’s thought and advice for a recovering person who is interested in stepping into leadership

In this second episode, I’ll be having my husband’s trusted friend, George Herrick, as my first guest. George has been sober since June 10, 1975 (45 years now!) and is currently a life and recovery coach, speaker, artist, and author who just released his incredible new book called The Stone Warrior: Confronting life's dark challenges with stone art and meditation. (You can find it on Amazon.)

Things you will learn in this episode:

  • How George’s addiction affected his personal life, from losing his job to being completely homeless
  • What made him decide to become sober and move forward
  • Getting back on track by landing his first job in recovery despite the stigma and discrimination in the workplace
  • Why did George decided to leave the corporate world and become a coach for people who had a period of recovery and wanted to figure how to have their life back
  • How his creativity helped him to succeed in the coaching field
  • His journey as a cancer survivor and why he created his new book, Stone Warrior

In this first episode, I’m going to introduce myself, Maureen Ross Gemme, an ex-corporate career girl turned entrepreneur. I’m a personality expert, leadership trainer, author, and coach working with people in recovery to step into leadership at life and work.

I created this podcast because I believe that people who get sober and get into recovery learn some of the most essential skills necessary to be a good leader at work, in the community, and in their family. I'll also share a sneak peek at what listeners can expect to hear in the future episodes that I will be releasing - specifically in the areas of recovery, and leadership using your personality and spirituality as a guide to others

If you consider yourself a leader and want to improve your skills while in recovery, this podcast is perfectly made for you, so stick around and check out our future episodes.
