Antigone: Familial Tensions: Recent Episodes

Creon and Antigone (both are main characters of the play and are related by blood) are motivated and driven by duty. Antigone is driven by her duty to bury her brother, and Creon is driven by his duty to be king. Creon understands and accepts that in life, there are compromises that must be made, and sometimes, one must make tough decisions for the greater good. Antigone, however, refuses to live a life of compromises. She is unwilling to "play the game" and not pay the price for a bit of happiness. Instead, she wants it all or nothing. Since in life one must compromise, she chooses death.
