Founded in 2022, the National Baseball Poetry Festival takes place at Polar Park in Massachusetts with programs on readings, workshops, panels, performances, a ballpark tour, two ballgames, fireworks, and conversations that bring together poets, educators, baseball fans, and community members.

His lab studies the mechanisms of RNA splicing, ways in which they go awry in disease, and the means by which faulty splicing can be corrected. In particular, they study splicing in spinal muscular atrophy, a neuromuscular disease that is the leading genetic cause of death in infants. It was recently announced that Dr. Krainer will split one of the most lucrative awards in science — a 3 million dollar Breakthrough Prize — for his research leading to the medication to treat Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

During her tenure, she has tripled the annual budget and developed programs to widen its service population, including small group tutoring, free citizenship application assistance and legal consultations for immigrants, an inclusive book club model for adults with developmental disabilities, and more. Karen works with Literacy Nassau’s 500+ volunteers to create new opportunities for tutors and teachers to become certified in Orton-Gillingham and has developed the concept of “donation-based tutoring” for children with learning disabilities, most notably dyslexia.

In the North Shore of Nassau County, there are over 200 acres of pristine forest and wetlands that hold many of Long Island's most beautiful and valuable environmental resources. The land has been protected by the Town of North Hempstead, yet it still faces threats such as illegal deforestation, ATV use and water pollution, which have plagued it for decades. The Town is currently holding a multi-stage democratic visioning process that allows residents to offer their input regarding how to utilize the land in the future. Today's guests are Dr. Dawn Adrienne, environmental activist, writer, and instructor who has taught all around the New York area including NCC, David Jakim a naturalist, research scientist and environmental educator at Queens College, and Erin Reilley, the Town of North Hempstead's Chief Sustainability Officer, and an environmental educator.

Magic Al Garber loves making a difference in children's lives. Each week he volunteers his time and talent at Cohen's Children's Medical Center in New Hyde Park to visit sick children who have cancer and other life threatening diseases. His magic helps alleviate their suffering and brings laughter to the kids, helping them cope with their illness and for many begin the healing process. FBI Special Agent, Danielle Messineo joins host Bill Horan and NCC Student Gina Santillo to discuss the growing problem on child exploitation in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Special Agent Messineo is currently assigned to the Long Island Child Exploitation Task Force, a combination of local and Federal law enforcement partners that work in collaboration to investigate the online sexual exploitation of children. She has been the primary investigator for child pornography matters on Long Island for over 13 years.
