Open Letter from NRA Benefactor Member: Anthony L. DeWitt
(Dezarae Payne told the podcast that every year LaPierre’s office gives Paul Payne the names of NRA board candidates considered allies of the longtime boss of the gun group. Payne then works through the council to lobby NRA members in California to vote for those candidates. Because such a small percentage of members take part in the annual mail ballot election for board seats, Dezarea Payne said, her husband’s electioneering has routinely been critical to victory.
Michael Schwartz, a gun rights advocate from San Diego who used to belong to the members’ councils, confirmed Dezarea Payne’s account. “The attitude from Paul Payne was very strange,” Schwartz said in regard to an NRA convention trip he made at Payne’s urging. “He was treating it like it was some kind of covert military op, which was beyond ridiculous. He had us staying at a hotel that was away from the convention center. We were told not to talk to any NRA employees or any NRA board members. We were told not to tell anybody why we were there.”)
NY AG’s Summons * Summons: 20 days (- August 26th) or 30 if it wasn’t personally delivered. * Those Summoned: WLP, Wilson “Woody” Phillips, John Frazer, Joshua Powell * Starting on page 114 (page 119 in PDF view) with point 476 through 543 clearly shows that the resolution put before the members at the NRAAM in 2019 was spot on regarding the Audit and Executive committees - they were rubber stamps and didn't even bother to understand what their fiduciary duties were under NY law nor did they follow common non-profit fiduciary practices. point 509 and 516 show retroactive approval of related party transactions WITHOUT EVEN BOTHERING TO REVIEW THE UNDERLYING DOCUMENTS - They should all resign in disgrace.
DC AG’s Complaint “In recent years, the NRA has experienced financial problems related, in large part, to low membership and the NRA’s decision to continue to waste funds on improper, lavish spending. To plug financial holes caused by its own poor management, the NRA turned to the Foundation’s funds. Because the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and executives are dominated by the NRA, and the NRA had subverted the Foundation’s independence, the Foundation has allowed itself to be financially exploited through, among other things, unfair loans and management fee payments to the NRA.”
NYAG sues to dissolve NRA * James - "fraught with fraud and abuse." “ claims in a lawsuit filed Thursday that she found financial misconduct in the millions of dollars and that it contributed to a loss of more than $64 million over a three-year period” * NRA - "baseless premeditated attack on our organization and the Second Amendment freedoms it fights to defend... we not only will not shrink from this fight – we will confront it and prevail." * April 27th, 2019 - NYAG Begins investigation. Aug 1st, 2019 three Directors resign. * Directors are silent… currently. Willes Lee only shared the link hardly made reference to it.
Members’ Meeting Rescheduled for the second time (June 11th) time. NRA still has yet to put out an official statement beyond the first rescheduling (here). * Sometime TBD in November, 2020. * Springfield Expo Center * Who knows what time, maybe 0900? * The Meeting will take place in Halls A/B/C of the Expo Center and commence at 9:00am Central Time were the previous. All members are invited to attend.

Gangsters of Capitalism "Rigging the Election" In the episode, NRA instructor and member Dezarae Payne describes how her husband, Paul Payne, from whom she is separated, has since the late 1990s worked secretly to tilt board elections in favor of LaPierre. Paul Payne has been an NRA employee, administrator of the NRA Members’ Councils of California, a state affiliate, and a liaison to LaPierre.
Dezarae Payne told the podcast that every year LaPierre’s office gives Paul Payne the names of NRA board candidates considered allies of the longtime boss of the gun group.
We were told not to tell anybody why we were there.”
Approximately $5.5M was spent on him, according to our napkin math.

The Trace (I know) reported that according to court documents Wayne LaPierre said, "...numerous times that Mr. Brewer was the only person that was going to keep him out of jail.” Pressed on why jail was a worry, Montgomery swore that LaPierre told “everyone in the room that, ‘you don’t know what you don’t know.’”

New York Charges the NRA with Violating insurance laws, deceiving members
Lockton was fined $7 million by the New York regulator in May 2018 over its involvement with Carry Guard.
The Department of Financial Services is seeking up to a $500 penalty for each of the 28,000 policies issued to New York residents. 500 x 28000 = $14,000,000. Annual Memberships at $45/14,000,000 = 311,111.1.

-John Cushman was successful in getting onto the Ballot by Petition only. It was Mr. Carter who ran by petition but was also put on the ballot by the nominating committee. Only John Cushman and Frank Tait are on the ballot solely by petition of the members.
-Patricia Clark is a former Chair of the Nominating Committee, she was not serving on the Committee when she was put on the ballot by that committee last year. It is currently not clear who the Char of the Nominating Committee is.
-Jeffrey W. Hague has withdrawn his name, as the February issue of American Rifleman indicates. Candidates page has updated to 38 candidates and 84% of those 38 being elected to the NRA BoD.
-Ted W. Carter informs us that he was elected to the BoD in 2011, not 1999.
The NRA BoD Winter meeting is this week, Saturday January 11th, 2020 with committee meetings starting on Tuesday. We need the NRA to be overhauled and we need our Directors to do it!!! Please join us in imploring the NRA directors to hold the NRA leadership accountable.

Welcome to Episode 10 of the Save the Second Podcast. Today is Sunday, November 10rd, 2019 - Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps! In this episode we’ll discuss:
Main Subject 1. Monday’s WSJ Article about Lavish Travel 1. “Inside the NRA, accountants were instructed to pay travel bills from her company without the usual detailed supporting documentation, which was held in a private file in the NRA’s treasurer’s office, said people familiar with the matter. The bills totaled about $2 million in one recent year, according to one of these people.” 2. “Ms. Stanford was paid in two ways by the NRA. She operates her business from her Woodland Hills, Calif., home, using a company called Inventive Incentives and Insurance Services Inc., or II & IS, which billed the gun-rights group directly.” 3. “At the same time she was providing services to the NRA, Ms. Stanford was involved in a side business that allegedly defrauded small-business owners out of money, according to a 2009 lawsuit by the Texas attorney general.” 4. “Elizabeth Kingsley, an attorney in Washington, D.C., who advises nonprofits, questioned the NRA’s arrangement with Ms. Stanford. “If I’m on a board spending substantial amounts of money on private jet travel for our CEO because of security concerns, yet we’re working with alleged fraudsters, it doesn’t add up,” she said.” 5. “Mr. Stanford himself is a felon. He pleaded guilty in 1990 to federal charges of participating in an oil-well investment fraud and served a brief time in prison, records show. He didn’t respond to calls seeking comment.”

$3.1 million in sales made to the NRA Foundation by Crow Shooting Supply, formerly led by former board member and former president Pete Brownell.

A Well Regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
For us at Save the Second; loving, honoring, enjoying and personally upholding the Second Amendment is who we are. Reforming the NRA is what we do. Second Amendment supporters need the NRA to be at its best. Right now, not next week. Not next year, not in 2021. Now, obviously, it is far from at its best. The NRA is in a discouraging and horrifying state, currently. The reforms that need to happen will not happen without your help. You must be involved. You must be engaged! In order for the NRA to be strong, relevant, effective and accountable, we must reform the NRA leadership and bylaws, reduce the amount of absurd wasteful expenditures, and refocus the NRA on the primary task of providing firearms training and education and protecting the Second Amendment. It is not what the Second Amendment can do for you, it is what you can do for the Second Amendment. Similarly, it is not what the NRA can do for you, it is what you can do for your NRA.
