We are all in Recovery from something and the vast majority of us need an Intervention in some area of our lives. By getting Support from friends, family, and professionals, we can grow through any of life’s challenges. But we need to remain teachable and find new forms of Education that will help us learn how to take on old problems in new ways.
RISE Radio will address and offer solutions to issues that are in the national spotlight, or need to be, such as addiction and recovery, college health issues, leadership, self-esteem and current events. The purpose is to empower you, your friends, family and co-workers, to make better and more informed choices and to learn from the experience of others how to overcome the barriers that interfere with your personal and professional growth.

As little as 10 years ago, there were maybe a dozen college campuses that had formal programs on campus for students in recovery fro addictions. Today there are over 100! This episode will focus on the recovery program at Oregon State University. We will talk with an administrator and a few of their students to talk about their journey and the recovery movement in higher education.
Shatterproof is a non-profit organization that addresses the issue of addiction. The organization strives to shatter the stigma attached to addiction and is a strong advocacy group to change laws that will help addicts receive the assistance they need to recover. This week I'm traveling to FSU for a presentation to the students. I will be interviewing staff and students to get their take on alcohol and other drug use and misuse on their campus and campuses around the country. Don Swogger, the Director of the SAFE program at FSU is a 25 year veteran in the field of higher education alcohol and other drug prevention. We will talk about the progress the field has made over the past 25 years.
We hear the horror stories that come from the misuse of alcohol and other drugs on college campuses, but is that a realistic portrayal of what is actually happening? Dr. John Clapp is the Director of The Higher Education Center based at the Ohio State University. The Center addresses alcohol and other drug education, prevention, and recovery issues as they relate to today's college campuses.

Our first guest is Doug Everhart, the Director of Student Wellness & Health Promotion at University of California-Irvine. Doug is a 26 year veteran in the field of collegiate health education and wellness and is one of the co-founders of the Step UP! Bystander Intervention Program.
