Spiritual paralysis is real. Life bombards us, it cripples us, like the paralytic’s disease in the scriptures. So gradually, we find ourselves trapped in depression, anxiety, or simply indifference to God. Meanwhile, the doors of the church are open. The sacraments are available to all. When we check-in to the hospital of souls, we will witness our paralysis cured. Christ, in His holy Church, offers us life and healing.
What does it take to waken up a sleeping soul to the reality of God? Secularism, consumerism, television, and all those comforts of our modern life have the effect of a narcotic. They make us drowsy and blasé, halfhearted and only superficially concerned with spiritual matters. How can we shake it off and walk with God?
