What's your main goal when running paid traffic?
Simple: To break even.
"What?! Isn't the whole point to make money?"
Well... technically yes but that's exactly the problem.
Everybody out there tells that and that's only when you focus on the front end and being profitable on the front end is complicated.
By no means I'm saying is impossible but it requires a lot of testing, knowledge, practice, etc...
The point here is that you are investing in YOUR business and building your online assets.
If you are here for the long game you'll be rewarded.
If you are here to "get rich quick", I'm sorry to break your dreams.
So... back to the objective of breaking even.
If you manage to do that, you are building your business basically for free and that's a great place to be.
If you manage to be profitable building your business you are in the best position.
But what happens if you are not even breaking even but collecting leads?
Not the best because you are losing money upfront but you are going to monetize that audience in the future so even if that's happening you'll win.

What's the best way to get leads?
Is a very well know fact that you can have "lead magnets" to get new leads... but is that effective?
Certainly it works. In fact it works very good... but here is the question:
Is there any other method that works even better?

Here's an unfair advantage you can have over your competitor.
Most people know how to collect leads (at least they have an idea) but not all leverage "Thank you" pages.
When you get someone in your process and you collect that lead is great but they are already in there.
You put in a lot of work and maybe money to get people there so you better take advantage of that, but how?

Starting is easy.
Maintaining and making stuff work is hard.
Back then, when I was starting I wanted to do everything.
And sometimes there was so much to do that I was overwhelmed and confused.
I'm here to tell you that if you are starting you need to focus only in TWO things:
- Create an irresistible offer.
- Send people to your offer.
Doesn't matter what it is you sell, doesn't matter who is your target audience, doesn't matter anything else, you need to focus on those two activities.

One of my greatest regrets is not knowing the value of myself.
When the first time I tried to charge more money for my services my voice was shaking.
Then I learned a big lesson: If you don't value yourself and your services, nobody will do it for you.
The difference between charging little money and big money is huge.
The main difference is how much you get paid, but not only that.
You deliver better your services.
You get better clients.
Your clients are more committed.
Your business grows better and faster.
Everybody wins.

You need to invest in yourself. That's not a secret.
There's honestly a lot of great info for free out there, but... is that enough?
Personally I do think that a lot of people really drop great knowledge and info for free, but your commitment is not the same.
I learned this some time ago: If you pay, you pay attention.
This brings up my next point.
There are a lot of very successful people with $10-$50 offers.
What do I do?
I get them 99% of times.
Top notch performers share great info for a very very low price and only one piece of information can make the difference. In fact that's how it works most of the times.
In fact that kind of paid information usually is really good and if the seller knows what he's doing, they will over deliver.
So my advice: You don't need to spend a thousands to invest in yourself at the beginning. Free info is good but paid info is usually better.
When I see those kind of offers I get them every time. I suggest you do the same.

Finding your ideal customer... Is a well know fact that is one of the first things you need to do.

I don't like how most people teach how to know who your ideal customer is.
Yeah, the age range is important, interests are important but here's the main question:
What problem is your ideal customer facing?
Now, dig deeper. What pains is that main problem causing? Does that problem has a domino effect? Generally the answer is yes. You need to know that.
Third, where does your customer want to go? What are their desires? Also you need to know that.
Those, for me, are the main things you need to focus on.

What happens if you workout super hard and eat right and do everything you need to do in order to get fitter, but you only do it for a week?
You won't see any results.
What happens if you have the best strategy in the world, the best ads in the world, the best offer, etc... but you do it only for a week?

Doesn't matter what you do, typically there will be someone better than you in certain areas, and if you are starting and in the learning face definitely start looking up to other people already crushing it and model what they are doing.

Do you want to know the biggest mistake people make when advertising stuff?
Here it is: People promote what they want to sell.
"Wtf are you talking about Diego?"
Aren't you supposed to promote what you want to sell?
Well... that's the obvious thing to do.
The smart thing to do is to promote a very very low risk offer for you audience aka a lead magnet.
If you promote a free thing on the internet you'll have a better response from your audience (and you'll build your list).
After you promote your free stuff you can add upsells and those upsells are exactly what you want to sell in first place, but you can't show it right away (unless is a very very warm audience).

Here's an advice for my younger self:
Stop overloading yourself with so much information and start taking action.
I wish I could hear to this 5 years ago when I was starting.
This has been hands down the most expensive mistake I've done.
And I see a lot of people with the same problem.
I wanted to learn literally everything and that held me back from taking action.
And nothing wrong with learning, I'm a huge supporter of learning, but the missing piece is taking action.
Paralysis by analysis is a real thing.
Here is the big "secret": Learn a proven process and start taking massive imperfect action, and keep learning on the way.
That will save you a ton of money and a lot of time.

Absolutely.

Honestly it depends...
Do you like to write? Start a blog or drop bombs on Twitter.
Are you shy but you talk good? Podcast.
Do you like to be in video? You're golden, post your video everywhere.
The truth is that we are all good at something and good news are we have plenty of channels to choose from.
So definitely pick the one you feel more comfortable with.
My recommendation? Definitely start with video because video wins over everything. Most people consume video plus you can repurpose that video into a lot of platforms and also a podcast.
That will allow you to gain more exposure in more platforms without any extra effort.

Why you need a Facebook group?
Simple... When you start a Facebook group you start a little community of people that are interested in what you have to offer and they will start consuming your content.
And what happens next?
There in your Facebook group you'll be making offers of what you have to offer and maybe they won't buy today.
But maybe tomorrow, or next week, or in six months.
The idea here is simple.
If you build your little movement, your little community where people can learn from you and eventually they'll buy.
And let me tell you, you don't need a huge group to make money.

Website vs funnel, who wins?
It depends...
If you want a presentation card to show what your business is about, your story, show maybe some testimonials, samples, etc... a website wins.
If you have only one objective, maybe generating sales, leads, scheduling meetings, build your email list, etc... a funnel kicks any website's butt.
A website has a tons of buttons, videos, sections and 1,000 distractions more, a funnel has one and only one objective and is specifically designed to accomplish that objective.

People secretly want to have a leader. We like to follow.
The same is true in marketing.
Call to actions (CTAs) are one of the most important parts of advertising.
In every ad, email, video, landing page and pretty much every message you put out there you must tell people what to do next. Click the link below, answer this email and buy now are some examples...
But why you need to tell people what to do?
Simple. We don't know the next steps and we like to be led.
If the next step in your sales process for people is to send you their email, tell them so, if the next step is to schedule a call, tell them!
I use CTAs all the time in my videos, I tell people to go to certain links because that is the next step they should take.

Model someone that is already succeeding.
I said model, not copy.
Modeling something that is already working is by far the fastest way to succeed.
One of the main reasons why I didn't succeed was because I tried to figure it out all for myself.
Big mistake.
Once I started following a proven process and modeling what was already successful I saw results faster.
Just think about it. Is even obvious but I'm so dumb that it took me plenty of years to figure that out π
Anyway... The tip of the day is to find someone already successful in your field and model what that person is doing.

If you treat your business as a hobby, you'll get paid as a hobby.

I see a lot of people out there treating this as a side hustle and that's okay.
The problem is that they plan to make millions and create an empire by doing a half-ass job for 1 hour a week.
I was like that, just playing around losing time.
It took me 3 years in order to make something work.
I won't lie either, I made some sales and learned some things in that time, but I got paid as a a hobby. And honestly I was never profitable.

There is lots of paid and free information out there.
Literally you can become a master in anything that you want just by learning stuff on YouTube.
There are also great courses that can help you have pretty much any skill that you want.
What's the problem there?
We are losing the ability to think for ourselves and a simple course will never be enough to learn everything you need to succeed.
When we face a problem in real life that wasn't pointed in the course we freak out and don't know what to do.
We freeze.
That's the freaking problem.
In order to achieve anything meaningful in life we need to face off with the problem and not only solve it but make the problem wish it never appeared.
That's what we need to do and that single skill is worth millions.

How much a customer is worth for you?
Is not a secret that a customer can buy multiple times from you and that will talk about your product.
Make it count.
If you deliver a great service, a great product and you are the best of the best, you'll create customers for life.
Here's another point: People will talk.
That's a guarantee and you want to make that count.
What do you want people to say about you and your business?
You want your customers to tell people that you suck or that you are awesome? There's no middle point by the way.
Business is very simple, you need to turn 1 customer into 2 customers.
If you manage to do that, you'll thrive. That's the real value of a customer.

Most people have a strategy for everything but they miss the most important piece of the puzzle.
How do people will know you exist?
People think that just because their product is the best people will start coming.
False.
Hoping for people to come to you is not a strategy
You need to get yourself out there.
You need to shake hands.
You need to reach out to people.
Nobody cares about you or your product until you demonstrate that.

I was talking with a friend couple days ago and he is struggling...
His clients are a pain.
My friend sell's websites and in order to work he needs content (pictures, text, videos, etc...)
His clients don't have the content ready and he cannot start working. He calls them and they just give him excuses.
He is pissed.
After listening to his story I told him to raise his prices.
The reason for this is that when people pay, they pay attention.
Just think about it for a sec.
Who would you take more seriously, someone that offers you a solution for a problem for $100 or someone that offers a solution for the same problem for $10,000?
You know the answer.
That's exactly why my friend's clients are being a pain. They don't care about him.
When you charge a high-ticket price people respect you more and take you and your work more seriously.
When people pay, they pay attention.

Limiting believes are real.
I struggle with those.
And I really believe that limiting believes are what hold people from reaching their goals (including me).
5 years ago, when I was trying to build something, I didn't believe a lot in my. In fact I wasn't even aware that I had limiting believes.
Now that I'm aware of that, I try to improve myself in that aspect.

I don't know you, but learning decent email marketing is like a "secret".
It even seems that the "gurus" out there give away all their "secrets" in their courses except for the email marketing ones.
Everybody knows how to build a list.
Give a lead magnet and collect emails that way.
Easy.
But... What the hell do you write in those emails after you collect them?!
How often do you need to send emails?!
Damn, it sounds pretty hard actually.
Is simpler that you think.
Just share stories. Share your journey. Teach lessons that you've learned.
Imagine you are talking with a friend. Keep it simple and keep it valuable.
You don't need any fancy copywriting techniques.
And quick tip here: Don't just "tell stories". We want to make money, right?
Also make offers. Is super simple.
Ate the end of the emails say "Hey if you liked this story/if you found this email valuable and want more help, go to this link/schedule a call/buy his product/etc..."
Keep it simple. Simple works.

Everybody out there tells you "get a mentor".
Are they useful?
Hell yeah.
But people expect that mentors solve all their problems and magically become successful.
That's not how it works.

Is your mindset right?

Which is better?
After testing for a long time, it takes almost the same effort to sell a $20 product than a $500 product...
Increasing my prices and selling my services for at least $500 was a game changer for me.
That allowed me to stop running in circles and start making finally money online.
I tested tons of products between $10-$50 and it was hard af for me to be profitable (actually I never did it).
I'm not saying that is impossible, there are tons of people crushing it with low-ticket products.
Is not just for me.
I firmly believe that selling high-ticket products is the way to scale hard even if you are starting.

First I want to tell you that having a proven strategy to start, is the smartest way to start.
Don't try to figure it out for yourself.
Now, I see some people following different strategies and that's cool.
But for some simply is not working.
The solution?

Did you know that Tik Tok is getting banned in some countries?
Just in case you were not aware, Tik Tok is a social media platform that is growing like crazy.
I don't really know the exact reason why is getting banned but that's not the point.
The point here is that many many new influencers with thousands and even millions of followers are about to lose their following.
Why this is a big deal?
Well, those people have an online asset, a Tik Tok following. Any following on any social media is an asset and is always good to have.
But the truth is that if you only rely on those platforms, in reality you don't own that audience, Tik Tok owns it, YouTube owns it. Facebook owns it.
The solution to this is to build your email list.
It doesn't matter if you get banned across all social media, you would still have contact with your audience through email.
So this is real life and is happening. A huge platform is likely to disappear, and with that, the followers too.

This is kinda sexy topic around the industry and I want to share my take on this.

There are 3 critical tasks to make it big in affiliate marketing:
- Create content
- Build your list
- Make offers
Content is what will make people connect with you + is your long term strategy.
Building your list is something that you should ALWAYS be doing. Is how your business grows.
Making offers... Well, this is how you make money. I think this one is self-explanatory.
And guess what?
You need to execute these tasks on a daily basis.
You can't do it for a week, for a month, every 2-3 days, every time you feel like it.
If you execute half-ass, you'll get half-ass results.
Kill it every day.
Is your content good enough?
Is there even a metric that can tell you that?
Before I tell you how you can know that, I want to tell you that regarding of the situation, you need to go the extra mile in order to create great content.
With great content I don't mean to have crazy production.
What I mean is to give great information in your content, information that will actually help people to solve their problems.
Knowing that, the metric that I was talking about is that people will eventually reply to your messages, to your emails, comment in your posts, etc... and there you'll see how the relationship grows with people and that is exactly how you know if your content is good enough.

I see a lot of people trying to copy everybody out there when they com to this affiliate marketing world.
I get why.
I used to be that guy.
When I was starting to try to build something online, I searched the best stores out there, the best products, the best descriptions, the best ads and literally copy word for word.
I even copied the color of the checkout button because I thought that was the "secret".
Later on I realized that is not the best move for any business.
Copying the guy next to you won't take you so far.
Instead MODEL what the successful guy is doing.
I'm all about modeling what someone else is doing and adding it my touch.
I use my words, my colors, my ads, etc...
That way you'll create a genuine brand and business.
Don't be like me and try to copy. Just model what is already working and make it fit with your business, not the other way around.

Turning conversations into conversions is a must in today's day and age.
The days of 2015 of turning on an ad and selling random stuff are over.

What do you need to focus on?
I know what it is to open your laptop and don't know what to do?
Do you create an ad?

Yesterday we discussed that having a strong backend is crucial for any business.
Having a strong backend can literally a whole business, but how do you do this?
There's a concept that I learned some time ago, is called the value ladder.
This simply is kind of different "levels" your customers are in.
You cannot make an $10,000 offer to a complete stranger and expect him to buy.
That is simply not realistic.
But what if you offered that same stranger something for free?
And after that you make a $50 offer, and after that a $500 offer, and after that a $7,000 offer and so on...
That is exactly what the value ladder allows you to do.
Having one allows you to get people into your sales process with not much resistance. That way you earn people's trust, then start making offers, each one more valuable than the previous offer.
And that's how you can offer your most expensive products and make sales.

How does the backend of your business looks like?
Most people worry about just the front end profit.
Why?
Honestly I don't know but I'm pretty sure that is because the "gurus" out there just teach that. That's the "sexy" part of the business.
Most people want to super optimize their sales page, their logo, their ads, the colors of the checkout.
Come on...
I'm not saying that isn't important but that won't make or break your business.
Having a strong backend strategy, a customer journey, is not very "sexy" to talk about.
Think of big brands out there. You don't buy just once or twice.
You buy multiple times and that is where they make the profit.
Being profitable just in the front end is hard.

Is that real?

Want to know what it really takes to succeed in affiliate marketing?
I'll cut to the chase right now.
You need to start creating content.
You need to start building your audience.
You need to do it consistently.
If you create content, you'll start building credibility. People will like, know and trust you a lot faster.
That naturally leads to the second point.
People will start watching your videos, reading your emails, etc... They are your audience.
Without and audience, you have nothing solid. Start building one right now.
My advice is to start building your email list ASAP.
Third: Consistency.
You can't just do it for a week or for a month.
If you are really serious, you'll do it for years, literally.
"Rome wasn't build in a day"
That's the truth. You need to put in the work for a long period of time.
Add those 3 components to the recipe and you'll see something happen.

Think about for a second what is the very first contact they have with you.
Do they even have a reason to answer?
I'll keep it short.
If you aren't providing value upfront, people don't have ANY reason to answer to a random stranger from the internet.
But if instead you give a piece of valuable information that has he potential to solve a problem, your response rate will be a lot higher.
And I'm not saying to spam people all over the internet "providing value".
What I'm saying is to really look for people you can help and provide massive value.
That's the fastest and most effective way to get people to like, know and trust you.
After that, the sales will come naturally when you make an offer.

Affiliate marketing is the best business model you can start with if you want to build an online business.
Why?
Super simple. You don't have to deal with shipping products, fulfilling orders, customer services, logistics and a lot more stuff.
You just need to worry about the sale.
By no means I'm saying is easy. But is relatively simple to start and to get traction. You just need to put in the work.
Earning commissions is cool, but let's talk about how you can take it to the next level...
You can sell a service where in order to provide that service, you need help some tools and you can be an affiliate of those tools.
I've talked about this "modern" way of doing affiliate marketing in some videos.
In my opinion is WAY more effective than regular affiliate marketing because you get paid for your services + as an affiliate.
Just making this little tweak can make you earn literally 10 times more than just doing regular affiliate marketing.

Okay, so you are building your email list. You have a nice opt in page, people are going there, but... what exactly is the next step for you?
What should you send?
Well.. first of all, usually you send people to your opt in pages offering a lead magnet. The very next thing that you should make is to fulfill that promise and give exactly what you said.
So you could send an automated email with the free thing or you can give it in the thank you page. It doesn't really matter.
But hey, what you send AFTER the lead magnet is 1,000 times more important.
Most people smash people with offers, and that's exactly why they don't make money.
What you want to send next is MASSIVE value.
If your subscribers don't tell you how valuable your emails are, you are not providing with enough value.
Provide super helpful tips, lessons, give practical advice that is helpful for people. Then you can make an offer. Not before.

Yep... You bet it does.
A loooot of people (including me) suffer from that.
For some reason (maybe fear) we try to learn everything and be masters at something without even starting it.
We don't even start because we are stuck in the learning phase.
The truth is that keeping analyzing things for ever is equal to doing nothing.
It doesn't matter how much you learn, if you never put it on practice, your results will be non-existent.
Learn the basics, then go full force to your goal taking massive imperfect action.
That will take you way further than just learning for ever.

Let me elaborate:
Most people iΒ‘on the internet teach the "sexy stuff". Facebook ads, "magic strategies", creating funnels, etc...
99% of people want to learn that because is the "hot thing". Is the attractive part of the business.
But nobody tells you that you need foundations.
Nobody teaches how to have a solid start.
Nobody tells you that you first need to work in yourself before achieving something meaningful.
If you don't have consistency, you won't make it.
If you don't know how to identify problems, you won't make it.
If you don't how to prioritize, you won't make it.
Is not for fun for me to tell you that.
But I would be doing a disservice if I don't tell you what you need to succeed.
So, if you want more and better results, before starting anything else (including your affiliate marketing business) go and improve yourself for the battle.

Competitive niche vs non-competitive niche
You'll hear a lot of different opinions about this.
Most people prefer to go to non-competitive niches... I prefer to go to crowded ones.
Why?
Well... in first place, there are competitive for a reason. There's more people there, theres is more money, more products, more opportunity overall.
In less competitive niches there is less opportunity in all aspects.
By no means I'm saying that no competitions is bad. What I'm saying is that there's more room to scale in all aspects in niches where there are more people.
What I recommend though, is to not pick just a super general niche and try to sell something there.
Instead pick a big niche and narrow down to a certain demographic so your whole business is build to serve and help those customers.
A great book on this topic is "Blue Ocean Strategy". Definitely worth the read.

That breaks through skepticism and will help you to build a relationship with people.

Taking action.
I see a lot of people (including myself) that just stay in the phase of learning.
Is very common to jump from one course to a YouTube channel, to a book, to a blog, etc...
This keeps people from taking action and this is what stops most people from even starting.
I used to be that guy, I wanted to learn everything before starting and the truth is that you never stop learning.

I see a lot of people getting confused about this and are embarrassed to ask.
First of all, ask whatever you need. You gotta start somewhere.
A sales funnel is simple the process that someone takes in order to get somewhere, usually to a sale.
A sales funnel can be as simple as reach to people -> call -> make an offer.
It doesn't need to be complicated. In fact the more complex, the more likely it fails.

Here is a common excuse I heard:
"There are to many products to promote, I don't start because I can't decide"
Let me tell you that I've been there.
I used to have that same excuse, and let me explain:
Of course that you need to pick a decent product to promote that pays you a decent commission and that also gives a great experience to your customers.
But if you don't decide because of the money, because the shitty product gives you better commissions, you are playing the wrong game.
I get that you want to make money. But if you will sacrifice your customers experience and promote something that is less than great, you are going to lose.
If you are worried for the money, I have the perfect solution.
Promote the best product, it doesn't mater if it pay less.
Along with your affiliate product, provide a service that you can charge good money for it.
You can earn $50 per affiliate sale, that's cool, but what if you sell a service for $500 when you also make the affiliate sell?
That's more than 10x the money.
While $50 for a commission is not that much, you can compensate it with a service and this same concept will allow you to get traction faster.

You are promoting the best product in the world but not getting sales?
That is a very common thought.
Don't expect that the product sells itself, it doesn't happen.
If you really want to make sales, you need to have a well crafted sales process in order to position the product you are promoting as the only way to achieve a desired result a.k.a marketing.

Recently I received a message saying "Hey Diego, I want to make $10k a month but with those commissions i'll never get there."
Fair enough.
Honestly I agree.
You would need to make 250 sales a month selling a product that pays you a $40 commission in order to make $10k a month.
And we are not even taking into account if your are doing paid ads, but let's think that you manage to do 250 sale organically a month.
I'm not saying that is impossible, but common, those are a lot of sales...
What I recommend is to take a modern approach to affiliate marketing.
I call it "modern" affiliate marketing because it is a different approach that I took to get traction faster.
It pretty much consists in providing a service AND also getting paid as an affiliate.

I heard that and I was like wtf, thats is completely false. Β The sad part is that it came form a "guru" in the Internet.Β
Yes, marketing is a huge part of the business, is what bring the sale, but what will happen if you start making sales and your product sucks?
People are not stupid, they have more power than you think.
It will take literally a second to them to go to Facebook and tell all their friends how much your product helped them or how much it sucks. There is no middle point.
If all you worry about is making sales, you won't last.

Affiliate marketing has been sold as a "make money quick" idea. And that couldn't be further from the truth.
You need to put in the work and go through the learning curve.
That's exactly why I believe that everybody can do it.

Here is my short answer: Just promote one.
Many affiliates think that the more products they promote, the more successful they will be.
More products = More commissions, right?
The truth is that you need focus on one ideal customer and create a super compelling offer for that specific customer.
If you have multiple products, chances are that minimum you need to create a different offer for that product, so...Β
More products = More offers = More time.
Is it impossible? No. By no means I'm saying that, but at the beginning you need to focus on one ideal customer, one product, one offer, one sales process, etc...
Once you are confident that that offer converts, you can move one to the next one.
Don't spread your focus.

You'll find a variety of answers but in my opinion you need 5 components:
You a mentor to share with you a proven process that work. You can try it to figure it out for yourself, but it'll take more time and money.
Find a product that is proven to sell and that you believe in. Also That product should offer either high ticket commissions or recurring commissions.
Brainstorm who your ideal customer is. Find exactly who it is that you want to help and serve.
You'll eventually need traffic. Focus in ONE traffic source at the beginning.
And last but not least, you need a proven sales process. It doesn't need to be complicated, it just need to work.

The truth is that if you start with money, you'll have better results faster, you'll be able to reach more people faster and with less effort.
But it is by no means impossible to start with $0, you'll need to invest more time.
And this has an advantage, starting with $0 is an advantage and that is that you'll need to master organic traffic.
