Jo Hands has the brilliant Shawn Callahan in the hot seat this week, and it's time to share stories. Shawn started as a geographer and archaeologist before working in IT with the likes of Oracle, Sybase and IBM. His story-work began in 1999 while at IBM, at the Cynefin Centre, when applying complexity theory to business issues. This is where Shawn discovered the power of small stories, anecdotes, rather than Hollywood inspired story methods.
In 2004 he founded Anecdote, with one clear aim in mind – to use story-work to bring humanity back to organisations.
In the years of pioneering international consulting since then, through Anecdote Shawn has taught leaders and sellers how to be compelling storytellers and collected powerful organisational stories that prompt employees to work out for themselves what needs to change. It is an approach that continues to break new ground.
Anecdote is now in the privileged position of being one of the most experienced and highly regarded story-based communications agency in the world. We operate in 22 countries and 11 languages.
Tune in to hear Shawn's story firsthand...

Working with high-performing women to unleash the power of their Executive Presence from the inside out, Melissa has inspired thousands of exceptional women to commercialise their talents by taking their brand substance, character and personal style to the next level for greater visibility, reward and influence.

Jo Hands & James Ciuffetelli have the brilliant Bernard Salt AM in the hot seat this week, and trust us when we say it's an episode that's not to be missed. Capable of donning many hats, Bernard is a columnist, author, speaker, business advisor and media commentator; though he is perhaps best known to the wider community for identifying and tagging new tribes and social behaviours such as the “Seachange Shift”, the “Man Drought”, “PUMCINS” (pronounced “pumkins”) and the “Goats Cheese Curtain". He was also responsible for popularising smashed avocados... globally. In this episode of The Chiefs, we're talking about building a better Australia, and what exactly that entails...
Bernard explains that we need to rethink how we operate our cities and society, so we are able to create a better working model - a hybrid. From discussing Australian sovereignty to the 2021 war on talent, our conversation covers everything from the rapid and widespread digital transformation that is shaking up the retail sector, to data and sustainability. We take a closer look at the companies that thrived through Covid, as well as consider why some didn't - or perhaps couldn't.
Looking to the future, we discuss what comes next? Every business needs to rethink their narrative, and rethink their geopolitical landscape for the 2020s - it is going to be key to your success.

James Ciuffetelli is asking the questions this week, with Michael Savanis in the hot seat talking all things video. Without question, video content is on the rise and more and more companies are embracing it - taking the time to create fun, engaging, and informative visual content to help make a connection with their audience, and drive business.
Micheal, Executive General Manager, Australia & New Zealand, heads up Panopto - a business which has revolutionised the way companies use video. They've developed an SaaS platform for businesses and universities to easily create secure, searchable video libraries of their institutional knowledge. Why is this important? Because an organisations primary asset is its knowledge, so how you store, share and use your people's knowledge is essential. Even more so in our post-Covid remote working world. Think about your own organisation... Do the platforms that you have hinder or help your teams? How do you actually share information?
Michael and the team at Panopto are looking to democratise video; making it just as important to communicate as email, instant messenger, or a document. Of course they know that it’ll never replace the face-to-face experience, where you can tap a colleague on the shoulder. But, it’s the next best thing, especially with teams located in different places and working from home.
In this interesting conversation, our Chief unpacks the power of video and why it's so successful, considering how much it has evolved in the last 20 years alone. They ponder where it might go next, and how it's evolved to become a B2B sales tool that's essential for top performing teams.

James Ciuffetelli is in the hot seat with Steve Gration, CEO, SG Textiles Pty Ltd this week, and he explains "It’s impossible to simply label the core ingredients that define the entrepreneurs that I have met or studied over the years. Some were small business owners or founders who had the vision, some were second, third and fourth generation successors and many more were hired professional executives. Despite their background, I've found that though many traits are common - some are incredibly unique.
The question which often comes to mind is ‘where they born this way?’ And if not, where did their spirit come from? I've found that sometimes it comes from their parents, their teachers, even their travels, for others it comes from role models, from mentors and even from their own unique communities.
Whatever the secret ingredient, Steve Gration gives us his story and it’s grounded in hard work, an unrelenting mindset and desire to be better and an ability to ‘have a go’…

Jo Hands is asking the questions this week, with Paul Hitchcock, Chief Executive Officer at Patties Foods in the hot seat - and they're talking all things Leadership. With people at the core, he's all about his team - and taking ownership when you need to stand alone as a leader. His insights are raw, genuine, and practical, making this glimpse into being a CEO truly refreshing.
Patties Foods is a true Australian success story, growing into a leading Australian manufacturer, supplier and marketer of branded frozen savoury and dessert products.
In 1966, after working at their local bakery, Peter and Annie Rijs bought a small cake shop named Patties in Lakes Entrance, Victoria. Wanting to offer their customers more than just sweet treats, they introduced freshly baked bread rolls and delicious hot pies to the menu. The rest, as they say, is history. It wasn’t long before their business began to boom and bite by bite, the Patties legend began to grow. By the mid-80s, thanks to its famous pies, pastries and party food, Patties had become a household name.
We’re now one of the leading Australian-owned frozen food companies and continue to build on the family’s vision to deliver great tasting, honest food to all Australians, no matter what the occasion. As an ASX listed company, we own a high quality portfolio of iconic Australian brands which include Four’N Twenty, Patties, Herbert Adams, Nanna’s, Ruffie Rustic Foods and Boscastle.
Patties Foods maintains the values reflecting its origin as a family-owned company. We are the custodians of a unique portfolio of brands that have become household names across the nation. Of course, along with Great Brands, and Great Assets, the other vital ingredient in our recipe for business success is – GREAT PEOPLE.
