Faith, Family, Fitness. The Barn has been a catalyst for change, a center for connection and a place of community. From a dirt floored heap to a health and fitness center, the barn mirrors how transformation really happens. It also parallels the transformation in my life. It’s a place of community, deep conversation, breaking down barriers, and building up people. Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theheltonbarn/support
I blew off all off all of the dust and figured out how to turn all of this equipment back on. This episode is just remembering where I left off and other Covid ramblings.

C.S. Lewis, in all of his wisdom, once wrote about how we are to live in times of fear and impending doom. That we are not to surrender our mind to fear. We are to maintain our humanity.
There will always be the next new “Thing” but humanity and community are verbs as much as they are nouns!

Good intentions that only remain an idea will always be just wishful thinking. Even the smallest of deeds will always outweigh even the grandest of intentions. Allow your good intentions to motivate you into action.

Have you ever thought about designing your morning? We discuss a book we’ve both read, The 5am Club by Robin Sharma. You have the opportunity to set the pace of your day by how you spend the first hour of your morning. We unintentionally stress our day by checking social media, emails, or text messages first thing in the morning. Own your morning, Own your DAY!!

My buddy George and I had a great conversation about friendships. What defines a good friend and how to recognize unhealthy boundaries within a friendship.

There are, unfortunately, very cleaver people out there actively trying to steal your identity. This episode, we discuss mailbox theft and how to be proactive in protecting your credit. I am, by no means an expert in this area. I am sharing what I have learned through my own journey. Below are a few links to freeze unauthorized access to your credit.

So often we live our lives as if most everything is a burden. “I got to go get groceries!” or “I Got to go to work tomorrow!” What if we paused in those moments and realized we have the privilege to go to the store or go to work. Being grateful can change the coarse of you life incrementally, leading to a great experience for all of the days God has blessed you with.

Forging is a process that repeatedly compressed and pounds on metal for the sake of making it stronger. What if we adopt and even welcome a forging of our lives in order to be stronger and in service to those around us?

Are your goals leading you to freedom or are your goals leading you to fear. Some of our good intentions can ultimately be the very thing that causes us the most fear and anxiety. A could verses I quote in the show:
I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
“For you were called to be free, brothers; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love.” Galatians 5:13

We all rely on different types of gauges to relay valuable information. Our cars, for example, have a bunch of gauges. Some of us only care about the speed and fuel gauge. Others are very concerned with engine and transmission temperatures. In the fitness space we are obsessed with the scale to gauge progress. Some disregard this as a primary indicator and are more concerned with measurements or body fat percentages. As we set goals in our lives, we will need to gather information from different sources. Often times these will be the people closest to us. We need discernment to choose which people are reliable sources of meaningful information. Choose your gauges carefully!!!

Why are we so willing to remodel our houses, yet we will completely tear down ourselves to the core. Remodels recognize the redeeming qualities and improves upon the established foundation. I love how Bob Goff puts it in one of his podcasts “ be kind to yourself while shifting around the 2x4’s” Basically.... Do we have some work to do, Yes. But that does not mean we are worthless or a lost cause. Do the work through small daily actions while reminding yourself that you have immense value.

I tried something new on this episode. I did a podcast from a pickup truck. This concept of balance and discipline was burning on my heart and I had to get it out. Many seem to believe that discipline will lead our lives into a lopsided and unbalanced existence. I believe quite the opposite. It’s through discipline that we regain balance of our lives and can focus on the things that are truly important.

This episode, I sat down with my buddy George Barahona. He shares about his journey through health and fitness and how diet and exercise ultimately allowed him to become a father. We also discussed some tips on navigating the unknown in regards to being an entrepreneur. George is a man of many talents and definitely not afraid of starting when most are sidelined with fear. This is a short and sweet episode giving a little background about the Barn and about why I decided to start a podcast. Some times we feel like we need to be a certain type or have all the right talents to pursue certain goals. Most of the time we just need to START. I didn't feel prepared to do a podcast. I just knew that I had a dream, the passion, and needed to start. Sometimes you need to see what is hidden in plain sight. You have great value. You have great insight. You just need to share it!
