The IEC says a deputy presiding officer at a voting station in Benoni east of Johannesburg, has been removed following an investigation into the transfer of special votes. This after a video went viral on social media - showing a party agent assisting with the transfer of the special votes. The IEC in Ermelo, Mpumalanga, has also dismissed two IEC officials after the EFF complained that a ballot box has been tampered with.

The IEC has sought to explain its reasons for dismissing all objections lodged against candidates on party lists contesting the May General Elections - with the exception of one PAC candidate. The IEC says the majority of the objections were related to unproven allegations. Over 50 objections were lodged, but the IEC upheld the PAC's objection to its own candidate Alton Mphethi, who was sentenced to 18 months in prison, barring him from serving in any legislature. Candidates have until the eleventh of April to lodge appeals with the electoral court. IEC commissioner, Mosotho Moepya, addressed the media in Johannesburg.

SAfm — High School learners are being encouraged to register to vote ahead of the last registration weekend. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in the Northern Cape has extended its voter education to High Schools. Kimberley Boys High pupils were encouraged to participate in democratic processes
