"The Root Story" is a documentary style radio show where listeners will hear the story of Georgetown come to life through its residents. Each episode will feature the story of one of two individuals (past and/or present), as well as tips for listeners hoping to preserve their own life stories.
This show airs on the Hipp Radio Network every Saturday morning starting in June 2020. You can find the show for on-demand listening after it airs, here.
In the middle of a world war, two Texas lovebirds tied the knot and embarked on a journey that would leave an impact on the city of Georgetown for decades. When J.D. Thomas unexpectedly passes away, Laura Thomas is left with five children to provide for and no knowledge about business. Still, she rolls up her sleeves and provides not only for her family, but also her community in the process.

Many people drive through or live in Williamson County and/or Georgetown, Texas without ever thinking twice about how those places got their names - I know I have. In today's epsiode, we explore the lives of Robert McAlpin Williamson, the namesake of Williamson County, and George Washington Glasscock - namesake and land donor of Georgetown, Texas.
