Greetings Mythics!

I'm joined by fantasy writer and singer E. L. Johnson. We gathered around the fireplace and discussed, among other things, how to tell how old a medieval manuscript is just from the handwriting, which bribe was taken, the fantasy novel Wolf's Blood, and my hairy back!

We also learn the stranger side of Erin as she plays 'Consider the Consequences!'

I hope you enjoy this Mythical Tales from Edra episode lovingly recorded from The White Horse pub in Hertford, Hertfordshire.

May the magic of storytelling flow through you, always...

Ken

Ep 2 PART 1: Mythical Tales from Edra: Lock-In Edition: Gavin Boyter

Greetings fellow Mythics!

Well, it wasn’t planned but this month’s special guest and myself rambled on for an age! So, this is Part 1 with Part 2 to follow… soon… ish...

“Keep it in the family they say,” so I did! This month’s special guest is a writer, a film maker, an ultra-runner, but more importantly he’s my cousin! It’s Gavin Boyter...

Once again, no actual pubs were visited in the making of this pubcast, although let’s pretend we’re in The Rusty Axe Tavern, shall we?

I first met Gavin, unsurprisingly, when we were kids; my family lived in Hertfordshire with his living in Edinburgh. Once a year for a good many a year, I would be excited to travel up on the night coach and spend a week or so visiting all of my Scottish recitatives. Normally we’d spend a day or so with Gavin and his family and I’ve fond memories of jumping off swings in the park, making up silly stories, and generally buffooning around with him, my brother and his sister.

As a kid, you rarely think about what people will be doing in ten, two or even thirty years time or what journey in life they have taken. Gavin has lead an interesting and some would say, unconventional life. He has written and directed a feature film, ‘Sparks and Embers’, written a published book, ‘Downhill From Here,’ and has another one, ‘Running the Orient,’ due out on the 14thAugust.

As we delved into various subjects such as the nature of creativity, early forays into the film making business, and his failed attempts at writing a novel, I discovered there is a lot more to Gavin than I knew, and we’re family!

I hope you enjoy this Mythical Tales from Edra episode lovingly recorded from The Rusty Axe Tavern, the only pub in Ferrum’s Forge to serve Old Giant’s Toe.

Greeting fellow Mythics!

I'm joined by storyteller, performer, and co-director of  Pakiki Theatre, Vickie Holden-Swinton. We discuss, among other things,  Vickie's unusual path into performing, her historic puppet venture with  the V & A Museum, her current projects and the time Vickie and myself took a show up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. We also learn  the weirder side of Vickie as she plays 'Consider the Consequences!' Oh,  and I get recognized by a local punter! I hope you enjoy this Mythical Tales  from Edra episode lovingly recorded from The White Horse Pub in Hertford.
