Shark Bite is a podcast about autism. I have an almost 5-year-old on the spectrum, so it will focus on our unique experiences raising him, as well as navigating the autistic community, and raising awareness and understanding of the diagnosis.
With Thanksgiving upon us, I touch a little on food aversions and what might be the cause of them for people on the autism spectrum. I hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving and celebrates life's small victories when they happen, like trying a piece of turkey this year!
This week I chat with my best friend and dog training extraordinaire, Erin Vejar. She's a longtime pet dog trainer, who was introduced to the world of autism through her current role with a non-profit organization that provides service dog training for kids on the autism spectrum and military veterans. It turns out Applied Behavioral Analysis is the gold standard in service dog training, so she is also currently studying to get her master's degree in ABA at the University of North Texas.
But that's not the best part of her story. She's also a mom of a five-year-old typical little girl who happens to call my atypical Finn her best friend. What does she think are good methods to teach children about diversity and inclusion? Listen now!

In this episode, I sit down with Finn's daddio for an open-ended conversation about our experience as parents of a young boy on the autism spectrum. In this episode, I take a little time to define autism in more detail, including the social, communication, and behavioral differences you might notice in kids and adults on the spectrum and a story or two to put it into a more "everyday" perspective, so to speak.

Welcome to my first episode of Shark Bite! This episode is a short introduction to the series with a couple of stories to explain the inspiration behind the podcast, it's not so obvious title, and a first lesson in understanding the world of autism.
I hope you enjoy the episode and come back for more! #ThisIsAutism
