David Hallam is an experienced interim communications and public affairs lead. He is a frequent contributor to various magazines and newspapers. He has published three books.David is a former Member of the European Parliament. He has led communications, policy teams, and consultation programmes, at such diverse organisations as the International Diabetes Federation and World Vision UK.He provides communications advice on an informal and freelance basis to several voluntary membership organisations and individuals. He is a trustee of his local church and a recognised local preacher. He is an honorary Vice President of the Severn Valley Railway (Holdings) plc, a Patron of the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery Trust, and a Life Member of the National Union of Journalists. He is an elected representative for the West Midlands on the National Members’ Council of the Co-op Group, the UK's largest ethical retailer.

How should a church welcome people who are different? City Road Methodist Church invited transwoman Helen Belcher to describe her journey from male to female and how her fellow worshippers reacted.
Helen outlines what she believes to be the Biblical position on trans people, briefly describes the appropriate use of toilet facilities, and offers advice to those who feel their gender assignment is wrong.
Above all she asks that trans people be treated just like anyone else, and not seen as an issue.
hurch leaders at City Road Methodist Church were alarmed to hear that people with diabetes and those over-weight, were more likely to get Covid19, and for infection to be fatal. They asked one of the world’s leading authorities on diabetes, Dr David Cavan, a former director of the International Diabetes Federation and writer on diet to advise its congregation on diet during lockdown. The Church is distributing the 15minute video on its Facebook, Twitter, and other social media pages.
Dr Cavan explains why overweight people are especially vulnerable from Covid19, but stresses that everyone needs to take particular care of their diet, both in what they eat and drink. He advises members of the congregation to eat plenty of fresh food, and cautions against all processed foods. He discusses how Christians and people of faith have a special responsibility to take care of their bodies.
Dr David Cavan is an experienced medical doctor who has worked in the field of diabetes for over 25 years. He was a Consultant Physician in Bournemouth, UK for many years, followed by three years working in Brussels as Director of Policy at the International Diabetes Federation. He now works as an independent consultant and author of books to support diabetes self-management. He is passionate about promoting effective self-management of diabetes and encourages each individual to make their own choices on how they wish to manage their diabetes. He favours a collaborative approach, rather than a traditional ‘doctor-patient relationship’
