Did you ever want to be a singer? Not just singing in the shower, or karoke, but on a stage with people watching? It's daunting, right? I learn something every time I chat with musicians on the podcast, and today's episode is no exception! The great jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel quickly disabuses me of utilizing the term "gypsy jazz" and he's got a great reason why.  Stephane's new album is "The Django Experiment VI" and it is another great album in the style of the incomparable Django Reinhardt.  Join me on this wide ranging discussion where yes we talk about Django - but also guitarists like Joe Satriani, Vernon Reid, Steve Vai, David Gilmore and much more! Stephane is also touring this fall.  Go check him out!

The guitarist Russell Javors -zoomed in from his home in Florida to talk all about his time with Billy Joel, writing and recording with Karen Carpenter, the producer Phil Ramone and much much more!  Russell's current project is 'The Lords of 52nd Street', where is 1/3 of the classic combination of himself, Liberty DeVitto (drums) and Richie Cannata (saxophone and flute).  They, along with the late great Doug Stegmeyer, were the backbone of Billy Joel's band in his heyday - from the mid 1970s to the late 1980s.  The Lords of 52nd street is a celebration of that music with 3 of the guys who there.  Great chat, do i up!

One of the guitarists on my Mount Rushmore of Guitarists stopped by to chat about his TWO new albums. The phenomenal Eric Johnson zoomed in from his home in Austin Texas to discuss 'The Book of Making' and 'Yesterday Meets Today'. These 2 new albums feature 9 tracks each and will be released on July 29. Johnson utilized his Covid quarantine time wisely to go back into the vault and look at all sorts of various projects he had worked on the past to reimagine as part of this release. Plus he worked up some new tunes.

Eric arrived on my radar way back in 1986 with the release of Tones (I'm still freaking on the outro solo of 'Zap') and over the decades he's won a Grammy, toured the world and collaborated with a ton of amazing artists.

It was my treat to talk to him all about the new albums, his quarantine YouTube guitar lessons, recording and touring with Mike Stern, and many others items.

Imagine a time where almost all of the most popular bands on the planet not only knew each other, but also had played in the same clubs - and in some instances- even played in each other bands.  The book 'Nothin' But A Good Time' - documents this era- the 1980s on Hollywood Sunset Strip.  The bands are now household names- Guns N Roses, Poison, Motley Crue and more!  But years before they were on MTV they were on the Sunset Strip hanging flyers on telephone polls, fighting other bands and their own bandmates.

The book will bring back a lot of memories for those of you who were alive back then.  For those who weren't- buckle up!  Co-author Tom Beaujour joined host Jamie Green to talk all about the book

The Nashville music engineer and producer Billy Decker joins me to talk about his new book 'Template Mixing and Mastering: The Ultimate Guide to Achieving a Professional Sound'. Billy is one of the hottest mixers and engineers in the music business - in large part because of the speed he can mix and master his tracks. He does that by already having templates established for his tracks.

We also talk about being friends for 35 years - way back to the days of hanging out and playing guitar in Lincoln, NE, his battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and much more. Lastly, I premier the new theme song for the podcast, 'Kansas City' which is made up of musicians that were guests on the podcast! They are known as the "Trading Fours All-Stars"- Laura Ellis (Episode 28) Lead Vocals, Go-Go Ray (Episode 37) drums, Blake Eberhard (Episode 44) bass, Tyson Leslie (Episode 23) piano and hammond B3, Bobby Harris (Episode 11) saxophone and me on guitars!

Do you say "How are you doing?" I'm guessing yes - and for most of us, the answer is usually "Fine" and it moves on.  For Mensa Deathsquad's Brandon Phillips- the answer isn't fine.  He deals with Crohn's Disease and was hospitalized for months.  Even with all that, Brandon continues to create- and his Mensa Deathsquad his one man band.  The new album is "Cyclist" and we will talk all about that too.

If you ever wanted what it's like to deal with a chronic illness and STILL be creative, this episode is for you.  The most real and raw conversation yet on Trading Fours.
