Anne Pletschke made her mind up as early as 16 that she would forge a career path within the maritime industry.
From Marseille to Doha, Anne's career has seen her explore and succeed in multiple sectors from marine inspections and ship management to becoming a maritime tutor for students preparing for their MCA and IMA oral examinations.
With Anne now freelancing in the renewables sector offering trenching support for offshore wind farm installation and carrying out geotechnical surveys, we go through key moments that helped shape her career and how she is grasped opportunities.
Tom Chitseko had no family ties to the maritime industry and after completing an International Relations degree at university, the expectation for employment was to work a 9-5 office job.
However after realising there was more to life than working within four walls, a courageous decision to find a cadetship and eventually obtain one within the RYA changed everything...

The new Coming Ashore project will fund professional guidance, mentoring and work experience opportunities for seafarers who are looking for a maritime profession on land.
The issue of poor support for seafarers after their sea career was first identified in the UK as part of Project Ulysses. The project identified help for seafarers coming ashore as a key recommendation and sought to understand the skills gap and educational needs for seafarers wanting to come ashore. Marine Society’s involvement in this area fits, with its mission to support the life-long learning needs of seafarers, at sea or coming ashore.
