“I hold onto loved… fiercely loved. I have had dark moments that I talk about in the book (and darker moments since then). It is knowing that I am loved that helps me hold on.”
Meet one of my own brave role models, Heather Markham. We discuss her new book as well as how she “braves that bitch up” to live full of love and adventure, making powerful choices based on dreams, not limitations.
Our entire conversation weaves between the professional and the personal, the inspirational and the messy, and more. I read an excerpt from her book Rough Waters, From Surviving to Thriving with a Progressive Muscular Dystrophy, and share how it impacted me.
You will have the opportunity to experience moving your own body in relation to how Heather moves and controls her own. Additionally, you will also experience how I impacted Heather’s journey by saying the brave thing and how we continued our relationship afterward.
Follow this episode by braving it up yourself: what five words describe you? What does each word mean to you? Share it at Nicole@TrickSteinbach.com

“Leave money on the table before you leave life on the table.”
Too many people are delaying a career or life change because they are scared of leaving money on the table. Many professionals have stock awards, performance bonuses, and vesting cycles that become the reasons to delay making a role, company, location, or life phase change.
It results in people leaving priceless, irreplaceable life on the metaphorical table while they continue to spin in dissatisfaction, overwork, and being underpaid.
In this episode, I share a number of examples from my own community of people allowing themselves to delay making a desired change due to an upcoming pay-off. Then I show you how to make a braver choice in five simple steps that map into the Build Your Brave Framework:
a. Evaluate your current position and phase: what is good, what is bad, and what is ugly (Build Your Brave Framework, Clarity)
b. Envision your future: what is known, what is probable, what is possible
Build Your Brave Framework, Momentum: Make a decision: leave life or leave money based on the specifics in front of you from steps 1 and 2
Build Your Brave Framework, Momentum: Design your strategy to a career shift that is unique and specific to you, your life, and what supports your energy and goal
Build Your Brave Framework, Accountability: Step into your accountability and follow through
Follow these steps to ensure that you never, ever accidentally or unintentionally leave life on the table in exchange for money you don’t need.
Most people, including me, need support through this process. Read more about how I can be your partner here: www.TrickSteinbach.com

In the past year, we've seen a massive market shift. First, companies laid off a bunch of humans and then they raised their goals and targets. Now, too many people are working way too much, stressing way too hard, and spinning in a form of accountability that drives burnout.
Today we are switching all that up by rethinking accountability with my Accountability Triangle. This podcast provides context with some storytelling. You want to get your hands on the brand new free resource: The Accountability Triangle, how to transform accountability to stress and work less.

It is time to STOP taking other people's data, and magically making it all about you.
This episode is going to be a bit fiery, and I am going to teach you the process and give you the resources you need to take radical responsibility, set boundaries, and move forward.
You will learn to discern your needs, be sure to communicate it, and then collect data as necessary as to how people respond to those needs and boundaries and decide how to move forward.
Let’s go!

I’ve been known as a woman with boundaries for quite some time. Yet, it wasn’t always that way. In fact, it took me quite some time and a lot of error to begin the process of establishing my own boundaries.
Creating boundaries is a brave skill that fits across the two phases of the Build Your Brave framework, clarity and accountability. Listen to this episode to answer these questions:
Tune in to learn the importance of boundaries for you AND those around you. I will walk you through not only how to set them, but also how to continually show up for yourself and implement them too.

This week I welcome my coach, Jess Johnson, as our guest so that she can share her expertise. We talk about what EFT (sometimes called “tapping”), how our relationship started, and why coaches are humans first too.
I also share a specific emotion and thought that I have been working through with Jess over the past year. It cannot be overstated how transformational the experience of learning and practicing EFT has been for me.
Jess specifically shares how the small decisions made early in life can continue to create unclear moments of tension, unease, and even pain within our bodies. She also shared specific ways to identify, shift, and heal.

In this episode, I challenge a common wisdom about the universe and share my own belief instead.
You may be like me and have heard “the universe is challenging me” to explain experiences in life. I don’t think this is helpful. In fact, I see that belief lead to exhaustion, overworking, over-producing, and over-serving in myself and others.
Instead, I accept to shift your mindset to “the universe is confirming me” to release pressure, and constraint, and move into brave ease.
This is an example of mindset design. Make sure you register for my upcoming masterclass. Link below.

We don’t talk enough about a beautiful, brave truth about growth: you will grow out of everything you love in your life right now. You will outgrow that job. That living space. That community. That relationship. That hobby. You will outgrow everything. Especially when you are building your brave, you will ever more quickly outgrow who you are and what you do, no matter how much you love it at this moment.
Since we don’t talk about this enough, it makes sense that you get stuck, repeating your own indoctrination, “Be happy with what you have”, and “But this is what you wanted!” and (the worst!) “Who am I to want more?” …. But getting more unhappy and stagnant with each breath.
I struggle with this too and the start of 2023 has been a life lesson in this. Thankfully, a recent conversation with someone who has known me for over two decades broke open my struggle and allowed me to leap into clarity. I share the wisdom from that conversation with you.
Please know, not only is it okay to outgrow what you loved and yearned for before, but that growth is something to celebrate. Listen for more.
I’d love to hear from you. Please leave a review if this episode resonates with you.

Listen in to her brave story as she leveraged her powerful community organizing skills, deep personal knowledge in social justice, her identity as a woman of color in the US, and experience working with big-name American politicians to create a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) specifically for people who have been closed out of the cannabis industry.
You don’t want to miss this episode, be sure to tune in to learn all about SacNicte’s journey on why and how she is transitioning into blockchain and tech and how tech can be a tool to improve opportunity for all people.

Based on my own resistance – as well as my clients’ – to choosing rest as a part of my bravery, you may want to skip this episode but I implore you to listen in. It is okay to feel some resistance, we have all been indoctrinated within a society that celebrates exhaustion and busyness.
Yet, when you transform your mindset about rest, your entire life will change. While the process of learning to welcome more rest into your life is uncomfortable for most people, the more you create a habit of rest, weaving it into every day as a foundational aspect of your life, you see your stress plummet, your joy sky-rocket, and your legacy take shape.
Being constantly exhausted isn’t normal. Rest is your right. I help my clients learn how to rest and incorporate it throughout their lives. I can also help you. Listen in.

This episode is a deeply personal, detailed and messy episode that continues my promise to bravely share more of myself within Celebrate Brave. For the first time ever, I’m speaking openly about my autoimmune disorder, how I chose to build my brave, and how I BELIEVE ME.
Everything I share in this episode, I share for a reason. Most importantly, sharing stories is the number one way according to research to build connection and dismantle loneliness. Sharing stories is also one of the best ways to build your belief in yourself, your experience, and who you are becoming.
We live within many harmful systems: patriarchy, white supremacy, able-ism, and much more. When you share your story and make the decision to believe yourself, all of yourself, 2% more each day, you make the world better.
My wish for this episode is that you see your own story reflecting in some small part of mine. I hope that you feel more connected, more inspired, and that you decide to believe in yourself, all of you, even more, and that you share your story as well.

Do you make choices that affirm who you are as an individual and the life you want to live? If you’ve just been going through the motions of what you’re “supposed” to do, you are not alone.
My client Erin O’Leary, joins us for this episode and shares her incredible journey from overwhelm and exhaustion towards a life full of life-affirming choices. She shares how she has chosen to navigate an engaging, high-stress, high-demand career as a parent and world traveler. She also shared how she is shifting towards a new phase of life and career, including significant, incremental mindset changes.
One of the biggest gifts we discuss is the beauty and freedom that comes with getting older and releasing others' expectations so that you chose jobs, relationships, and hobbies that affirm your personality AND the life you want to live.
If you’re ready to step into your life-affirming choices, no matter where you are today, reach out and book a consult call. It’s time for you to step fully into your brave, and create the life of your dreams. I can help! Schedule your consult today. https://tricksteinbach.com/discovery-call/

Welcome to a first for the Celebrate Brave podcast: an unexpected but very necessary part 2 for a listener question episode, E93: How Do I Hire More Women.
The original episode got an unprecedented amount of feedback. Your feedback means so much to me. So this episode is to deepen the conversation. I answer questions that came in and also push back I got.
I knew in the original episode that I was giving an answer many people would find uncomfortable. Yet, I also knew it was vital to address head-on because that original question places the blame and all of the responsibility on the people that current systems, norms, and assumptions keep out.
What I did not know is how much feedback and pushback was going to come.
So many emails and social media messages were positive, proving that many people are open to expand, grow, and address the foundational challenge instead of continuing to be a part of the problem. These messages were inspiring and sounded like this:
I answered every single email that came in and I share all those answers here.
I also got a number of ridiculous messages of pushback:
I share my response to people upholding the failing systems that protect poor behavior, weak standards, and affirmative action for straight, white men. Listen for the full response and know this: What was once acceptable is no longer acceptable. If you want to stay in the game of long-term success, you have to grow. You have to get very clear, create growth momentum, and then you have to hold yourselves accountable.
If you’re a woman listening here, and looking to be hired: please know, there's so much opportunity, and possibility. You deserve to experience a space that is inclusive, and a welcoming space of mutual growth, a space of cultural growth of brave spaces. If that's not currently your reality, you can make it your reality. My clients build the skill of bravery. And you can too.
This is all available to you and I can help. Book a consult with me at the link below.

Live date: 2/9/23 Welcome to the 100th episode!
There was a time when publishing 100 episodes seemed like a massive goal. Yet, here we are: celebrating…and also getting ready for a success slump.
What is a success slump?
That emotional release and dip after you’ve accomplished a goal. It shows up as:
I share a series of goals my clients achieved in Q4 2022 and how they all experienced a success slump.
A success slump is a normal part of being a human, so let’s normalize it and prepare for it. In this episode, I teach you how to move with ease through one and how to still enjoy your new results.
Thanks so much for being here and celebrating 100 episodes with me!

My client, Caroline Santinelli, shares her story of moving from burnout-driven medical leave into embracing her innate strengths, choosing her health, and creating her own business. She sums up her experience with a Brene Brown quote: “belong to yourself first.”
First, she lost her voice (for real) due to stress, experienced her first panic attack, developed insomnia, kept getting sick with aches and fevers, and finally began having significant nerve pains. Finally, she realized she would rather be sick than return to work for her mental health.
So she gave herself permission to take medical leave. She slowly gave herself permission to begin to belong to herself. Then she began to embrace her innate talents. Then she allowed others to be disappointed.
She did the messy, deeply personal work of building her brave.
Caroline is the first client who decided to build her brave to open up her own business, Terra Prosody Grant Consulting, a grant-writing boutique consulting firm.
If you’re ready to learn how to belong to yourself, embrace your innate talents, and break free of the rules and judgments holding you back, this is your episode.
This is your time to belong to yourself, choose yourself, craft your talents, and then leap into your brave life.

It is a few weeks into 2023, are you still committed to the intentions you set for your “one, wild, and precious 2023?” Part of building the skill of bravery is remaining committed to the intentions, goals, and agreements you made to yourself.
If you are moving forward boldly or if you’ve stumbled, this episode has three powerful questions to help stay in your intentions, bravely, all the way through to your results:
Every single day you get to choose your life: who you are, what you want, who you want, and how you want it all. This world needs the bravest version of you, living your brave life.

What if you didn’t have to suffer through burnout, exhaustion, or pain before you chose yourself, your goals, and your dreams? What if, instead of suffering and then growing - losing significant amounts of time, energy, connection, and belief – you could notice, chose, and exponentially grow from “good” to “great”?
In this episode, I build upon the wisdom shared in E96 with my client Nisha Shrestha - Uncovering Your Wisdom.
I share my own journey of understanding when to invest in myself and the metaphor I use for it: the green, red, and yellow zones. And I offer you the breakthrough question gifted to me: what would happen if you invested when things are good?
A bit of insight on how to think about the three different zones…
Green Zone: You are thriving! Things are going well, you're sleeping well, you're taking care of your body, you have relationships that matter to you, you have work that you are enjoying that pays well, you have hobbies you enjoy, etc…
Yellow Zone: Some of the green zone lingers, but some of it also is not and you are beginning to feel worn down.
Red Zone: You’re not getting good sleep, have poor eating habits, have body pain, are underpaid, overworked, and not enjoying the world. You may be crying in the bathroom or yelling at home. You are burnt out.

Sometimes everything may appear to be picture-perfect on the outside, while our internal journey is quite the opposite, full of stress, and anxiety that drives negative thoughts and feelings. That was true for my client Nisha Shrestha.
Nisha shares her brave journey of overcoming the fear of not being good enough, unraveling her unconscious negative thoughts that trapped her in stress, and her choice to ask for help. She also shares how she uncovered her own wisdom so that she could more fully step into her power.
Self-doubt and unworthiness is something that comes up for so many women. Building the skill of bravery is one powerful technique to simply and powerfully shift into your wisdom and power so that you build a life and career that serves you and your legacy.

Trigger Warning: I'm going to be talking today about gun violence, loss, death, and grief.
Today on this special episode, I am addressing one of the biggest misunderstandings about changing who you are (self-concept): that it has to take a long time.
It doesn't. Even though most people believe that changing who you are must take a lot of time, the truth is that it doesn't have to. You can transform in one micro-second.
Today I share how a massacre in an elementary school exactly 10 years ago led to an instantaneous transformation in my own self-concept.
But you don't need a tragedy. You can allow a moment of clarity, a moment of experience, a moment of embrace, or a moment of release. You can transform a piece of who you are and you can change the entirety of who you are. It can be chosen or it can be spontaneous.
And it can all happen in one instant.
If this speaks to you, you are ready to be my client, build your brave, and become who you want to be in this world. Because this world needs you. All of you.

We all experience loss, whether it be within our careers or life. We try and we fail...we try again, we fail again, we try again, we succeed, and then the experience starts all over again. We all have these experiences throughout life, so it made sense that I got numerous questions that all boiled down to: how do I keep going after a big loss that feels all-encompassing and final?
In this episode I share with you the two primary things that you need to do in order to process your loss, move forward, and continue pursuing whatever it is you desire. I share two personal stories, one extreme from September 11, 2001 and one more common in a missed promotion.
Your losses don’t have to remain in the “lose” column. Instead, when you have a loss, you can allow it to serve as an opportunity to feel your feelings, build your trust, learn about yourself and others, and go even further than you could have originally imagined.
Tune in to see how my Build Your Brave framework supports you to keep going after a loss, you can keep going, friend. Brave it up!

Inspiration for this week’s episode comes from one of Nicole’s clients: There are no prince charmings. Yet, too many women are acting like the professional version of sleeping beauty, waiting for the professional knight in shining armour or the prince charming to swoop in for their career. It is an enormous mistake.
Nicole shares personal stories about how she co-created bad working situations that held her back: staying at a job with a crappy manager who accused her of not being a team player (when he actually meant ‘masculine’), staying in a gendered situation that held her back, accepting poor behavior as part of the experience of getting a promotion.
How you can stop being a sleeping beauty and become your own knight with control and joy in your career.

Nicole answers the number one question she gets, everywhere she does: Why coaching? ie, what’s the value of a coach? Why should a person have a coach?
A coach is your fast track to your goal, to where you want to be, who you want to be, what you want to achieve, with the least amount of effort, failure, and pain.
The experience of being coached, and the lessons from each coaching experience, never stop creating rewards and results for you. Nicole shares a personal experience of this truth.
Nicole describes in her own growth as a coach the power of internal corporate coaching and the limitation of corporate coaches. Internal corporation coaches coach you to be successful in that organisation; an independent coach supports you towards your growth and your transformation.
Long story, short: if you want to thrive and succeed as a woman in tech, coaching is the fast track to get there.

Are you a woman in tech at a senior/executive level who feels lost? Or are you a woman in tech aiming to become a senior/executive and want to know how to enjoy your senior career? If so, this episode is for you.
Far too many women in tech are quietly unhappy. They are passed over for a promotion, and companies are not investing in them. They ask themselves, why is my career not advancing? I do what is necessary.
In a recent, and exclusive global networking event for exec women in tech one woman asked, "Am I the only one who feels lost and underfed?"
The answer was a resounding and clear, "No. You are not alone."
Like an earlier episode, it is common but not normal for women in tech to be unhappy.
We believe a lie, we believe that when we do a good job, our employers will keep investing in us, in our skills, to keep our interests and our minds busy. When in fact, we need to invest in ourselves!
That is the secret to enjoying your exec career: invest in yourself.

Are you a woman in tech who is underpaid, overworked, and un-invested? This episode is for you!.
Conversations and presentations during Grace Hopper Celebration 2021 are the inspiration for this episode. Nicole failed to craft this tough-and-flicking-necessary message in writing, so she created this episode.
Women in tech are failing each other: we are normalizing bullshit about being underpaid, overworked, and un-invested. And we have to stop, immediately.
Nicole outlines how women in tech who are paid well, working within their boundaries, and investing in themselves are the norm - not the common woman in tech who is underpaid, overworked, and un-invested.
“Too many women in tech have normalized being underpaid, overworked, underinvested and looking down and backwards rather than up and forwards”.
Why you need to step up, not only for you but for all women in tech.

Nicole had this idea, a podcast to share timeless stories, including her own, to be of greater service to others. But where to start and how to go about starting a podcast? She sought help in the form of a podcast manager named Laila and now almost 30 episodes into this adventure together and the end of season 1 in sight it was high time to bring Laila from behind the curtain and in front of the stage to hear her brave story.
It turned out to be an emotional (with tears and lots of laughter) retelling of Laila’s journey as an introverted administrative assistant pretending to be an extrovert to be able to survive in the corporate world which ultimately lead to a burnout and a lot of learning about herself. Extensive therapy and reading books about introverts gave Laila the direction and the drive to change her career at the age of 50.
Happier than she has ever been she has immersed herself in podcast management, the tech of editing, the supporting of clients and having a blast while doing this.
One of the questions Nicole always asks her guests is who their Brave role model is and this time it is not at all a person you expect to be a brave role model.

How you come across to others matters, especially in the workplace. As a woman in tech, you want others to perceive you as confident, inspirational and engaged. And most of all you want people to listen to you.
So how can you become this person? In this episode, Nicole explains how you can build a persona. By telling her story on how she created her persona and what kind of result this brought for her.
A persona does not mean that you have to become someone you are not. As Nicole says in this episode: “It is setting an outcome, choosing the actions for those outcomes based on the feelings that I want to have.” A persona is a valuable method you can use when you build your brave.!

Nicole gets fired up in this one.
Trust Radius issued their 2021 Women in Tech report. It is small, it reflects the pandemic's impact on women in tech and it strengthens older reports with far more people.
The data of the report is not surprising. It was the "what Women in Tech want" ... the 'answers' or 'solutions' provided by the report gave got Nicole all up in her passion:
"What do Women in Tech Really need”? Do we need more mentoring, leave, unconscious training? Nah. Listen to how Nicole describes that the solution isn't about the individual woman but about changing the system.
Get all the details by listening to this episode!

Has anyone told you that you are a cast iron pan? Cause you are
What is Nicole talking about! How can you, a human being, be compared to a cast iron pan?
Well, there is the foundation, how a cast iron pan is made, what it does with your meat, and the fact that every cast iron pan is unique... and results depends upon how you care for it and YOU.
In 3 metaphors Nicole explains why she is a cast iron pan.
Number 1: If you don’t use your cast iron pan, it rusts. You have got to use it and you have got to know what you want to use it for. Meaning you can be exactly who you want to be. Nicole wants to be a coach to successful women in tech. Who do you want to be?
Number 2: A cast iron pan is “a hunk of work that isn’t worth it” to some and "the best thing ever" to others. Having a cast iron pan is a investment. When are you going to invest in yourself?
Number 3: When your cast iron pan (or you) is not performing as usual, what do you do? You try out new things, see what works and what doesn’t. How are you improving and learning?

Nah, bravery is also speaking truth, leading, building connections, and growing in the stretch. What if BRAVE is actually the feeling- the stretch & tingle -- of stepping into your awesome?
