Astonishingly, the Holy God desires to dwell with sinful people, drawing near in grace to make a way to make us holy.

God hates human pride, and graciously wants to dislodge us from every form of the false security it produces - from worldly comfort to wordly control

The Word of God is beautiful because it reveals to us the Beautiful One in all of His greatness, goodness, grace, and glory.
The goodness of God’s Word shines bright in the lives of those who hide it in their heart - sanctifying them by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Though God tells us much through His creation, the supreme source of His revelation to us is His Word, the sufficient foundation of all Truth.
The alluring draw of identifying with and hoping in leaders, policies, culture and country is hollow in contrast to our primary citizenship under our perfect King.
The endless pursuit of knowledge fails to bring the peace and happiness only found in knowing the One who is Truth, and having your identity re-located in His knowledge of you.
Jesus invites us to reject our religious attempts to be right with God, repent of our self-righteousness, and rest in the comfort and joy of a right relationship with God based on His righteousness.
Self-medicating our pain and boredom by chasing ease, relief, and escape to feel better is far inferior to the true hope and healing the God of all comfort brings, meeting us in the midst of even our deepest despair and afflictions with His ever-present care.
Better than any false greatness that comes with lord “our” power over others, true greatness is found in the humble person and work of Jesus.
The illusional attempts to control, with their accompanying fear and anxiety, are far inferior to the peace and freedom that come with trusting the caring God who’s in control.
The steadfast love of Jesus is better than life, and the root from which all other loves may grow and bear good fruit, for He himself is love.
The false god of accomplishment and its shaky identity pale to the joy of abiding in Jesus and His finished work for you.
The life-giving pleasure found in knowing Jesus is far superior to the empty wells of the world.
Upon his death and the completion of the work of redemption, Jesus went to the place of the dead to proclaim his absolute victory and so began his exaltation as King over all.
Titus 3:12-15 || Our love for Jesus must be evidenced by a life of outward acts of loving service to others.
The believer is called to echo the love Christ has for his bride by refraining from empty talk, actively promoting unity, and warning those who threaten to divide her.
Titus 3:1-7 || In the gospel, the love of God interrupts our story of sin, mercifully giving us a new life through the justifying work of Jesus and the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit.
Titus 2:11-15 || In between the grace of Christ’s first coming and the glory of his second we are being trained by the gospel, which enables us to change through its redemptive power over sin and satisfaction of our deepest desires.
Titus 2:1-10 || We are to live in a way in our home and work life that shows off the beauty of what we believe, receiving spiritual training from other believers in the process as God shapes our character to reflect our doctrine.
God instructs elders to shepherd His sheep by rebuking false doctrines and false teachers that preach a false gospel.
Titus 1:5-9 || The church needs shepherds who are above reproach in their family life, character, and doctrine.
Titus 1:1-4 || True faith in the gospel inevitably leads to a life of growing godliness.
The goal of gospel community is transformation through transparency. For in the cross confession is compelled and covered - it's okay to not be okay - and in the resurrection change is catalyzed - we don't have to stay there.
The vast benefits of Gospel Community far outweigh those of the world's counterfeit versions.
Giving our money and possessions away for the purpose of God's kingdom is a wonderfully worthy investment.
God is the happy Savior of His people. As we consider the Incarnation of Jesus, and the reality that God is in our midst, may we be filled with joy in His joy that rejoices and lovingly sings over us.
The message of Zephaniah is for others, too. As we consider God’s judgment on others’ sin, we’re encouraged to entrust justice to Him, beware of our own pride, and lovingly hold out the hope of Jesus as we await His restoring salvation for all who seek Him.
In light of sin's devastating consequences and impending judgment, let us urgently seek the Lord, avidly attacking idols and abiding in Jesus, our Hiding Place.
As we enter advent we’re reminded of what it means to seek the Lord in the silence. As we look behind us to the manger, and before us to the crown, we seek the saving judge who is in our midst.
God compassionately spares us from what we deserve while lavishing us with what we don't.
Isaiah 40:1-31 || In the midst of such chaos and confusion all around, we need our gaze lifted upwards off culture and off ourselves onto the character of God.
Psalm 34:3 || Celebrating baptism, child dedication, and four years of what the Lord has been doing in the life of our church.
John 16:7 || The Holy Spirit, inseparable from The Word, is the manifest presence of God, and therefore is indispensable to all of life and ministry, prompting us to desire to be filled with Him.

As we enter advent we're reminded of what it means to live in the tension between the now of Christ's 1st coming and the not yet of His 2nd coming. We celebrate the light of the long-awaited messiah who has pierced our darkness, and yet, aware of the darkness that still remains, long for more.
Acts 6:8-7:60 || When ordinary people die to themselves, they radiate God’s glory with extraordinary impact.
Acts 6:1-7 || Because multiplication gets messy, establishing organized leadership & engaged membership is critical to minister effectively.
Acts 4:32-5:11 || The gospel creates unified people, full of a radical generosity and honest transparency that, when threatened, must be protected.
Acts 4:23-31 || In a society steeped in credentials and technique, boldness with the gospel is not predicated upon these cultural qualifications but upon the power of the One who sends us.

Acts 2:1-36 || Jesus sends the promised Holy Spirit to fill believers and demonstrate the power of His presence, thus signaling a new era in redemptive history and enabling the gospel to begin to radiate clearly to people from all nations.
Acts 1:12-26 || In replacing the 12th apostle we see Jesus' work of restoring what's broken begin. His new kingdom is breaking in, and it's not a political one vying for cultural power & material possession. Rather, God's restoration is a spiritual one, starting with repairing the fractured pieces of our own hearts & relationships and extending that outward into the fragmented world around us.
Acts 1:1-11 || Having received the gospel & experienced the risen Lord Jesus, we as Christ-followers are commissioned as witnesses to radiate that good news outward.
Genesis 2:23-24 || In our join-effort to fill the earth with Gods glory, the partnership between men and women is designed like a beautiful dance, with men sacrificially leading and women joyfully helping, in tandem imaging God together in distinct and indispensable ways.
Genesis 2:18-23 || In His distinct formation of women, God has crafted joyful life-givers, who through careful nurturing take what they receive from Him and utterly transform it.

Matthew 6:10 || Praying your kingdom come is a cry for God’s good reign to break in to our sin-ruled world, beginning with our own hearts, through the Lordship of Jesus, resulting in a transformed culture where His desires are obeyed and His purposes are trusted.
Matthew 6:9-13 || Despite our propensity to shrink back from conversation with God, He has not stopped wanting to talk with us and through Christ has purchased the ability to talk face to face with Him.
Matthew 6:9 || In first asking our Father to hallow his name, we are radically re-centered around His glory, thereby igniting our longing for it, awakening our awareness of it, deepening our enjoyment in it, furthering our obedience to it, and stirring our participation into it.

Philippians 2:5-8 || As God He emptied himself, as man He humbled himself. Jesus embodies selfless love, as supremely demonstrated in the humiliation of the incarnation, thereby compelling us towards the same.
Philippians 2:1-4 || The joy of a gospel-worthy life causes us to fight for unity through the humility of a radically selfless love.
Philippians 1:27-30 || The worth of Jesus compels us to match our lives up with our true citizenship, then lovingly engage our earthly culture despite its hostility to the gospel. How do we do that? This passage tells us.
Philippians 1:21-26 || When Jesus saturates our life, then we no longer fear death. Instead, dying becomes gain as it means we will be with the One we treasure.

Lamentations 4 || When the darkness of our suffering doesn't lift, how can we continue to endure?
Lamentations 3 || Hope emerges amidst our hopelessness as we fight to root ourselves in the character of God.
Lamentations 2 || Why is there pain and suffering? As we lament we can begin to understand the cause of our sorrow through the holistic lens of sin and run to the one who's sovereign over it.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 || In slowness we rest from a hurried pace and instant gratification, and instead discover tranquility through waiting on God.
Psalm 139:1-18 || In secret we rest from image management and needing to be noticed, finding freedom in the loving eyes of our ever-seeing God.
John 10:11-15 || In submission we rest from control and self-sufficiency and experience the subduing calm of trusting the Good Shepherd.
Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 || In Savor we rest from stress and over-seriousness by tasting the relaxing release of unwinding to enjoy God in His good gifts in creation.
Psalm 127:1-2 || In sleep we rest from wakeful arrogance, ambition, and anxiety and receive the indispensable gift of peaceful replenishment through daily turning off.
Psalm 23:1-6 || In satisfaction we rest from the endless striving for fulfillment and enjoy the contentment found in having our every need met in Jesus.
Luke 10:38-42 || In simplicity we rest from busyness and distraction in order to generate margin and focus by prioritizing and reducing our commitments.
Genesis 2:2-3 || In Sabbath we rest from overworking and productivity-obsession and receive the renewal found in weekly stopping to worship.
Exodus 33:12-23 || In solitude we rest from constant connection and retreat to the beauty of being alone with God.
Psalm 46:10 || In stillness we rest from noise and distraction and cultivate the peace and inner quietness of a life listening to God.
Matthew 11:28-30 || Jesus invites the weary and burdened into the rest thats found in Him.
Psalm 16:1-11 || Seeing Jesus rightly inevitably produces the joyful overflow of praise from our hearts.
Luke 24:47-53 || Through Jesus' final days on earth we see He is the Ascended Sender, giving the Holy Spirit to empower believers to proclaim the gospel we’ve witnessed to all nations.
Luke 24:13-46 || Through the appearance of the risen Jesus to the doubting & disappointed disciples we see that He is the Opener of Eyes, who graciously reveals Himself as the center of all Scripture, setting our hearts ablaze.
Luke 24:1-12 || Through the resurrection we see Jesus is the Living Lord, whose identity is validated and work is culminated in this offering of pardon, power, and presence to us.
Luke 23:26-49 || Through the execution of Jesus we see He is the innocent King who in love was crucified in our place, opening for us the way to God and beckoning we draw near.
Luke 22:66-23:5 || Through His trial we see that Jesus is the innocent Judge, sentenced to death by those whose kingdoms were threatened by His better one.
Luke 15:1-32 || Through the story of a lost son we see Jesus is the prodigal pursuer who with reckless love goes after younger and older brothers alike, and then parties when they are found.
Luke 12:13-21 || Through the parable of the rich fool we see that Jesus is the true treasure we falsely search for in the abundance of possessions.
Luke 10:25-37 || Through a contentious challenge from a lawyer we see that Jesus is the Good Samaritan who has loved us without limits, calling us in turn to the same sacrificial love for our neighbors.
Luke 9:10-17 || Through the miraculous feeding of thousands we see that Jesus is able to fully satisfy, sufficiently providing for both today's basic needs and forever's ultimate need.
Luke 8:22-25 || Through the calming of a storm we see the total control and care of Jesus to still not only the seas, but also our souls.
Luke 6:1-11 || Through confrontation on the Sabbath with the Pharisees we see Jesus breaking the chains of man-made religion, recovering the heart of God and restoring rest to the spiritually weary.
Luke 5:12-26 || Through the supernatural healing of a leper and a paralytic we see that Jesus has total authority over not only our sickness, but also our sin.
Luke 4:31-37 || Through Jesus rebuking a demon we see His total authority over evil and ability to deliver us from our spiritual oppression.
Luke 4:14-30 || Through Jesus' hometown preaching we see He is the Rescuer promised in Isaiah 61 whose gospel mission is rejected by the religious locals.
Luke 2:1-21 || Through the appearance of God's glory to the shepherds we see that Jesus is the Christ Child, who has come to save glory thieves and replace our fear with joy.
Luke 1:57-80 || Through the extraordinary birth of John and the song of his joyful father Zechariah, we see Jesus is the Savior of Man who has broken through our silent darkness.
Luke 1:26-56 || Through the miraculous virgin birth we see Jesus is none other than the Son of God. And that's exactly what we need.
Ephesians 4:1-15 || Christ's love compels us to eagerly maintain the unity that He has purchased with His blood.
1 Peter 5:1-5 || Christ’s covenant love as our Chief Shepherd compels pastors to care for the church with a servant shepherding while compelling the church to respond to that care with a joyful submitting.
2 Corinthians 8:1-9 || God's self-giving love compels us to a life of the same as we see the better treasure that is Jesus.
John 13:1-17 || The greatness of Jesus' foot-washing love compels us to a life of serving.
Ephesians 2:11-20 || God's triune image and covenant love compel us, despite how hard and messy it is, to do life together in Gospel Community.
Acts 2:42-47 || God's covenant love has saved us into a family and now compels us to fight for the weekly rhythm of gathering to worship Him together.
2 Corinthians 5:14 - 6:11 || To be saved is to be sent! The joy of Christ's love compels us as ambassadors to take His reconciling message to others.
Because sin lingers, the Christian life is a fight for joy. We must aggressively combat sin through ongoing repentance and faith so that we can enjoy the superior pleasure of Jesus.
John 15:1-11 || Jesus is inviting us into close relationship with Him. To stay connected though to His covenant love and the joy found in it takes fighting for through His Word and prayer.
Acts 2:37-41 || After receiving God's saving grace through repentance and faith, Christ's 1-way love compels us to tell the world we belong to Him now! That proclamation of identification happens through a demonstration called baptism.
Christ's covenant love compels us to a singular initial response - repentance and faith. For it is by grace that we are saved.
What is the Bible and how can we know it is true? In part 2 we explore how the Covenant God has revealed Himself and the resulting implications on our joy, submission, and confidence.
God's sacrificial love for us compels sacrificial love from us. In order for God's mission of being known to go forward, sacrifice is required. We see this blueprint in the incarnation of Jesus, where God is known through an all-in, self-dedicating, high-costing, comfort-forsaking, others-embodying kind of love. This love that we are recipients of then calls us to be instruments of love for others.
Genesis 1:1, 2:7 || For our Family Worship Sunday we explored how God creates out of nothing, shapes it into something, and then breathes life into it.
Ephesians 5:18-20 || Singing is one of the ways in which God, in his love and mercy, gives us more of himself.
Nehemiah 13 || Nehemiah ends with major disappointment, reminding us that restoration is actually an ongoing process.

Galatians 1:1-10 || There is no other gospel outside of grace in Christ. It alone sets us free from the distorted gospels of religion and irreligion.

The promise to restore man back to Eden is unfolded and ultimately manifested in Jesus the Messiah, whose life, death, and resurrection redeem us from the fundamental problem of our heart.
Genesis 3 || Sin enters the world along with its devastating effects as Adam and Eve fail to enjoy and trust God, buying the lie that life is found outside of Him.
Genesis 1-2 || In love God creates everything, culminating with humanity in His own image. It is a beautiful design, and all is set up for man to simply worship and obey. Eden equals life as it was meant to be.
Matthew 13 || Jesus is the supreme treasure worth giving up everything for. Losing everything to gain Him is a happy trade.
Deuteronomy 8 || Recounting God's faithfulness and grace in the past keeps us humbly rooted and hopeful for more of His grace in the future.
