Three (not so) young men share their thoughts about video games and gaming culture.
Keep up with our adventures outside the podcast by following The Used Gamers on Facebook and Twitter.
Happy 10th Anniversary, Gamers! Mike returns from the dead (just kidding, but he is in Texas now) to join Chris to play catch up on what they've been up two in the last few years since they last recorded together. Mike lives that PC life and talks about his extended adventures in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (as well as being a good dad and playing some Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 with his daughter), Chris gets old school with RetroArch on the Xbox and blows up robot dinosaurs (again) in Horizon Forbidden West, they both talk about not playing Overwatch 2, and we speculate about a few things we're looking forward to for 2023.
Is this the last episode ever? The start of a whole new chapter of the show? Only time (and Mike's wifi) will tell!

Juuuuuuuust made it under the wire on this one!
Chris here, flying solo for the first, last, and only episode of The Used Gamers Podcast for 2021. With our 10-year anniversary next October I couldn't let us go an entire calendar year without a new episode, so here it is: me talking for an hour straight about the (checks notes) 30 games I played to completion across 10 different systems over the past 15 months. That's a lot of pixels.
And no, that's not counting the 4 different times I beat Super Mario Bros.
Happy New Year everyone!! If you'd like to see anything next year on the show, email us at theusedgamers@gmail.com - I'm about 65% sure that's still a functional address!
Mike and Chris sit down for a relaxing evening of discussing games both old and new. We talk about a LOT of games we've been playing (Shadow of War, Fall Guys, Chimera Squad, Gears Tactics, Wasteland 3, Super Mario Bros All-Stars, Donut County, Little Nightmares, Close to the Sun, Control, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Mortal Shell), as well as our thoughts about the newly announced release dates, prices, and offerings for the Xbox Series X, the Xbox Series S, and the PS5s.
"PS5s" sounds dumb, but it's accurate, so we're sticking with it.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
The boys play catch up as Mike discusses the strategy games of the day, Chris gives a spoiler-free review of the Last of Us Part II and discusses his favorite demos from the recent Xbox Summer Games Fest, and they both offer their thoughts about the summer's games events from both Xbox and Sony on the eve of the launch of new consoles. So much game-y goodness!
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Mike and Chris are BACK and gamier than ever! If you like games, we've got a lot of 'em for ya that we touch on: Hard Luck, Call of Duty: Warzone, CIV 6, Divinity Original Sin 2, Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun, The Surge 2, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and Death Stranding all get their time in the Podcast Sun. And if that weren't enough, we round things out with a beefy discussion about the good and the bad of modern video game reviews.
Do YOU have a question or something you'd like us to discuss on the show? Reach out to us on Twitter: @theusedgamers.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
We're back! Chris sinks his teeth into the Surge 2 and mourns the loss of his DOA Xbox One X, Mike makes his way through The Banner Saga Trilogy in record time, and we wrap things up with a discussion about the "controversy" surrounding the Assassin's Creed Valhalla reveal, and what it says about the current state of games journalism and general internet outrage.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Socially-distanced co-hosts Chris and Mike discuss video games in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic, how their gaming habits have changed with their new work-from-home lifestyles and how the industry has been affected.
Take care out there everyone: stay at home, wash your hands, and come help us take back Washington, DC in The Division 2.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Mike replays Pillars of Eternity for the umpteenth time, Chris spends otherwise perfectly good money on a Wii U and a bunch of dead Gameboys in 2020, and the boys have a spirited discussion about video game pre-orders.
Also, pasta.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller. http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk
After a long hiatus, Chris and Mike are back with a (slightly) new format for all your gaming enjoyment. We catch up on the many, many games we've been playing since our last episode, and share our picks for Game of the Year for both 2019 AND 2018 (thought we forgot, didn't you?). We wrap up with a discussion of our personal choices for the Top 5 games of the decade.
And yes, a certain Commander with a favorite shop on the Citadel gets a LOT of praise.
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Has it been 4 months since our last episode? Really? Well, then we've got some catching up to do. Mike and Chris blaze through their myriad gaming experiences since the beginning of the year before diving into all the big announcements from this year's Gamer Christmas: E3 2019. Lots of opinions here about the future of game streaming, game difficulty, and the coming console arms race.
Oh, and Keanu Reeves.
And a dog.
Video games are rad.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Mike and Chris catch up on what they've been playing for the past 4 months (!) before launching into some longer discussions about the Pillars of Eternity II DLC, Civilization 6, Immortal: Unchained, Apex Legends, and the VIP and Public Demos for BioWare's shiny new baby, Anthem.
Yes, Mike talks a lot about strategic RPG combat.
Yes, Chris gushes about Dark Souls.
But hey, that's why you love us, right?
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Jared rejoins the crew for another exciting episode! After playing catch up on what we've been playing (Red Dead Redemption, The Messenger, Rayman Legends, Beyond: Two Souls, Full Throttle Remastered, Destiny 2: Forsaken) and watching (Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku), the boys dig deep with in-depth reviews of Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - Beast of Winter, Marvel's Spider-Man, and God of War.
What a great time to be playing video games!!!
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Mike and Chris return to fight through allergies to bring YOU all the video game goodness you've come to expect from The Used Gamers. Topics covered in this episode include:
Hit us up on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for more fun, and send Jared good vibes to soothe his shredded vocal chords. Get better, buddy!
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Games, games, and more games. But then that's why you're listening, no? The boys have been getting into all sorts of electronic trouble, so for good ol' episode 56 we discuss:
And if'n that weren't enough for ya, the boys do a deep dive into the offerings from all the major conferences at E3 2018 that's so intense that it causes Jared to lose power and disappear for the end of the episode. SO INTENSE!!!
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
Hello! Welcome! We have video game talk, just for you! Everybody gets really fired up in this one as we discuss the many gaming experiences we've had lately - I mean, just look at this list of stuff we tackle!
If you can't find something to love in that list, well, we've also got some thoughts about what we want to see out of next month's E3 conference.
Are you not entertained???
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
The trio is back! Mike and Jared review Batman: The Telltale Series and the recent happenings in Overwatch, Chris details his early steps into Xbox One ownership, and we wrap things up with both spoiler-free and spoiler-rrific reviews of the film adaptation of Ready Player One.
Theme song: "White Knighting"

We're down a host (Jared will be back for the next one, we promise), but not short on things to talk about. Mike makes a return to Pillars of Eternity and Mass Effect: Andromeda, but also give us his thoughts on his new adventures with the Frozen Wilds DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn and the super-happy and not-at-all depressing This War of Mine. In between tinkering with microswitches and power supplies on arcade cabinets, Chris dives into Bayonetta on the Switch, continues his stabby tour through Egypt in Assassin's Creed: Origins, and shares his new found love of carving up imaginary animals in the excellent Monster Hunter World. We wrap up with a look at the games we're most excited for in 2018, which is shaping up to look like a pretty terrible year for the wallets of gamers everywhere.
Our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk), and continues to be as excellent today as when we first heard it.
2017, you were something else. Jared and Mike discuss Bungie's first big DLC drop for Destiny 2, The Curse of Osiris, Chris and Jared get super stab-happy with Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, Chris single-handedly kills everyone in feudal Japan in Nioh, and the boys offer their thoughts, disappointments, and personal picks for Game of the Year during our 5th Annual Year in Review.
Will Jared update us on Pokémon Go? (Is the Pope Catholic?)
Will Chris find a reason to compare something to Dark Souls? (Is water wet?)
Will Mike hold out hope for the future of BioWare? (Does EA ruin...everything?)
Will our hosts achieve consensus and all pick the same Game of the Year? (Sorry...you're gonna have to listen to answer this one.)
Theme Song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
See, this is why we shouldn't take breaks between episodes - too many games to talk about, and yet we talk about them anyway! This episode we tackle Destiny 2, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, Pillars of Eternity, Final Fantasy XV: A New Empire, Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius, Metroid: Samus Returns, Splatoon 2, SteamWorld Dig 2, Injustice 2, Wolfenstein 2... and that's BEFORE we get to the reviews (for games that aren't even all sequels)! Chris shares his thoughts on Jason Schreier's new book Blood, Sweat, and Pixels, Jared works hard to not spoil too much about Life Is Strange, Chris jumps through major technological hoops to tackle the stunning and brutal challenges of Cuphead, and Mike and Chris discuss the ups and downs of their time with Star Wars Battlefront 2. We wrap things up with a looooooong discussion of the current controversies surrounding loot boxes and microtransactions, and what place we think they might have in games going forward.
Spoiler alert: we solve all the problems of the industry by declaring that all games will cost $100 from now on. You could start saving your pennies now...or you could be like us and never pay full price for games! #UsedGamersStyle
Yes, Jared has his mobile games and PS+ experiments (Clash Royale and Life is Strange). Yes, Chris has gone a little Nintendo crazy (Sonic Mania, Metroid: Samus Returns, Golf Story and the SNES Classic). And yes, Mike continues to buy up every isometric CRPG he can get his hands on (too many to name, at this point).
But for this very special 50TH EPISODE OF THE USED GAMES PODCAST (woot woot!), we dive deep into the time sink that's left us with dark rings under our eyes and neglected spouses: Destiny 2.
Thank you for putting up with us, ladies. At least we know exactly how ridiculous we are.
Theme: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
2017 continues to beat us over the head with great great great games! On the docket for this episode: Overwatch's introduction of Doomfist, X-Com 2 DLC, epic Dark Souls 2 DLC boss battles, Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel Heroes, Pokemon Go Fest and the Ready Player One movie trailer all go under the microscope before the boys review Tyranny, Hitman: The Complete First Season, Final Fantasy XV: Episode Prompto and the recent Destiny 2 open beta. Oh, and it turns out the SNES Classic is a thing we might actually get to buy - woo hoo!!
Theme song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
As Mike is sidelined by his daughter's teething (we miss you, buddy!), Jared and Chris soldier on by talking about WAY too many games: Pokemon Go, Tales From the Borderlands, Marvel Heroes, Clash Royale, The Witcher 3, Dark Souls 2, Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, Type:Rider, Nioh, Slain... and that's all before we even get to the reviews! Lotsa good stuff there too: Chris shortens his lifespan with the Switch release of the "rhythm violence" title Thumper, Jared gushes over the incredible wonders of Horizon Zero Dawn, and Chris lives, dies, and repeats with the very unusual (and highly recommended!) NieR:Automata.
Our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk). Enjoy!
No reviews and who the heck cares what everyone has been playing - it's E3 time! The boys share their thoughts on this year's offerings from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft and Bethesda. Love live dem vidja gamez!
In our longest "whatcha been playin?" segment ever, Mike and Chris offer more thoughts in the wake of Mike beating Mass Effect Andromeda, Jared conquers Dark Souls 2 and begins a very pretty journey into Horizon Zero Dawn, and Chris does an unplanned hardware review for a pair of GameCom P80 wireless gaming headphones that he's preeeeetty sure were stolen. Mike goes all "PC Master Race" on us with his a deep dive into Pillars of Eternity, and Jared takes a FFXV side trip with the Episode Gladiolus DLC.
The theme? Oh, it's just "White Knighting" by Comptroller. It's good, huh? There's more fun to be found at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
2017 is trying to kill us with awesome games, and we couldn't be happier! Jared and Chris say goodbye to Dark Souls with The Ringed City, and Mike and Chris say hello to a new galaxy with Mass Effect Andromeda.
Theme song: "White Knighting" by Comptroller. (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
With Mass Effect: Andromeda looming large on the horizon, the boys share their most recent experiences before drowning in space-y goodness. Chris becomes the proud new owner of a Nintendo Switch and shares his thoughts on the excellent Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mike rolls for initiative with Sword Coast Legends, and Jared explores the end of the world with Everyone's Gone to the Rapture. Also, Pokemon Go.
Always Pokemon Go.
Until the end of time.

Our theme is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. DEAL WITH IT! (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk)
We've lost a man (for the moment - don't panic), but we've gained a glorious new system of recording! Jared and Chris harness the power of YouTube to record a 2-man episode covering all the games that have been burning our retinas and making us neglect the outside world: Neverwinter, Journey, Pokemon Go, No Man's Sky, Severed and The BioShock Collection all get their time in the sun, followed by an in-depth discussion of the state of Final Fantasy, an accounting of all the adorable reasons why everyone should play Tearaway on the PlayStation Vita, and our impressions of the PS4 Pro and its place in our "Generation-less Future."
Our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller (http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk), and special shout out to our friend Ryan for walking us through harnessing the power of Google Hangouts on Air to revolutionize the way we record. Better late than never!
After another of our trademark multi-month breaks, the boys are back! After catching up on life since our last episode, the boys tackle some of the biggest releases of the year: Mike gets kill-streaky with Overwatch, Jared witnesses a thief's end with Uncharted 4, and Chris gets another From Software butt-kicking courtesy of Dark Souls 3. Things wrap up with our government mandated discussion of the biggest bad game ever made, the infamous Pokemon Go.
Side note: "Infamous Pokemon Go" is a crossover that someone needs to make. Now.
Our theme song, "White Knighting" by Comptroller, continues to be amazing.
Big games and a very big year for gaming! Chris spends waaaaaay too much time with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Mike spends even more time with Fallout 4, and Jared pulls a Goldilocks and spends an amount of time with Call of Duty: Ghosts that's juuuuust right. We wrap things up by putting a pretty bow on 2015 with our biggest surprises, disappointments, and personal picks for Game of the Year. Will The Used Gamers maintain their unbroken streak of having 2 people pick the same game while another disagrees?
Yes. Yes they will.
The theme to our lovely show is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. If that music could play every time you sat down to a controller, life would be so much better. Until then, go to http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk to get your fix.
Adventure games, beat 'em ups, MMOs and Stormtrooper murder - we're all over the place with this one! Jared breaks his brain with Broken Age, Chris gets a hearty dose of nostalgia with Transformers Devastation, Mike gives even more of his life and his wallet to Bungie with Destiny: The Taken King, and we all dive in (and have mixed reactions to) the Star Wars Battlefront beta.

Mike crossed generational barriers with Assassin's Creed Rogue and Assassin's Creed Unity, Jared gets attacked by wild animals in Far Cry 4, Chris gets big, dumb, loud and fun with Wolfenstein: The New Order and Mike FINALLY gets to tell us all about how much of his lift he lost to Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. It's the bestest! http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The two-man fun continues as Mike and Chris recount their time with The Order: 1886 in a spoiler-filled podcast that's almost as long as The Order: 1886. We'll give you fair warning when the time comes, but know ahead of time that we leave no stone (or useless piece of paper) unturned.
Our theme continues to be "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Get up on that at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
With Mike busy playing the game called "Life", Chris and Jared take time out of a busy week and sit down to discuss The Swapper, Brutal Legend, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, and Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below.
(Bonus content that didn't actually get recorded: Chris falling asleep on with his Vita on his chest while Jared beat the final boss of Infamous: Second Son. That's dedication to the hobby, people!)
Our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. For Pete's sake, please go listen to more at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk. What did Pete ever do to you, anyway?!?

It's another Triple Tech episode as our hosts combine forces to tackle the Destiny beta on PS3! After a significant amount of gushing we jump to Used Gamers Future (i.e., the present) as Mike tells us all about his shiny new PS4. We wrap things up with a segment we like to call "Why Do You Hate Me???" wherein the hosts discuss games that we've forced each other to play. Mike finally chokes down Portal and Portal 2, Chris rots his teeth with Eternal Sonata, and Jared starts a journey down a deep rabbit hole with Dark Souls. We've seen things, you guys. And we'll never be the same...
Those sweet, dulcet tones at the start and end of every episode? Why, that's our theme song, "White Knighting" by Comptroller. If you like that, you will LOVE wjat you find at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The boys celebrate their 25th episode by devoting the whole show to our love of arcades! After some quick news about some Hearthstone ridiculousness, we dive into a discussion of our favorite arcade games, our favorite places to play and attempt to make some estimate of the number of quarters we've sunk into X-Men cabinets over the years. In the back half of the episode we sing the praises of the many great local establishments that allow us to get our gaming fix as adults in a post-arcade world: the GameWarp convention, BART, Player 1 Video Game Bar, The Geek Easy and The Cloak and Blaster. If you're in the Orlando area and love gaming, come give these nice folks all your money!
Our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. To hear more music that sounds like an NES-fueled childhood, visit http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Tonight we're gonna party like it's 2008-2011! In this all-games-all-the-time episode, the boys dive into a bevy of titles that are new...to us. Remember kids: old games will love you with an adult-dog kind of affection that's just as good as the happiness that comes from buying a cute-puppy new release.
Speaking of things that are great, our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Check out more at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk. Do it!
The boys sit down for a good old fashioned American podcast wherein Chris discusses the retro charm of Wayward Souls, Mike tells us whether or not Watch Dogs lives up to the hype, Jared waxes nostalgic over the recent Thief reboot, and Chris beats the system and offers his thoughts on the controversial Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
One of these games gets a lot of love. The others? Well, they can't all be gems, now can they?
Our theme song, "White Knighting", has been graciously provided by Comptroller. No, seriously, the guy's all cool and stuff and sent us a very nice message on Facebook about the show. Thanks, Comptroller! Send the man some love at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The three man crew is back and we attempt a rundown of all the notable announcements from the Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony E3 media briefings in an hour. We fail. But we get pretty close!
Our theme music is, as always, "White Knighting" by Comptroller. It rocks. More chiptune goodies await you at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
With Jared out on baby-birthing duty (congratulations buddy!) and Chris sidelined by spinal surgery, Mike and Chris harness the magic of the Internet to record an episode that dives deep into our obsession with the Dragon Age series, discuss our experiences with the single player DLC for The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite, and dig into recent updates to Microsoft's online and Games with Gold policies and their announcement of a Kinect-less XBox One.
Our theme music "White Knighting" by Comptroller, and it's better than your theme music. Actually, if you have theme music, we're going to go ahead and say that you're pretty amazing.
No news. No small talk. Just games.
Chris bathes in the wonderous glory of Puppeteer, Jared takes advantage of Games With Gold and digs into Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, Mike goes back to The Old Republic once more with the recent release of the Galactic Starfighter expansion, Chris gets (Mine)crafty with Terraria, and Jared sticks to the shadows (most of the time) with Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Some old, some new, all fun. That's kind of our thing, no?
Theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. More musical goodness can be found at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The numbered episodes continue as the gentlemen play catch up on all the nifty games we've been playing: Final Fantasy XIII, Heroes of Dragon Age, A Link Between Worlds, Bravely Default, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Sleeping Dogs all get their moment under The Used Gamers Microscopetm. Chris announces a ridiculous plan involving a certain alliterative JRPG series, we look ahead to games we're looking forward to in 2014, and we wrap up with a head-scratching discussion of Valve's entry into the PC/console market via Steam Machines.
Our theme is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. It plays in the background whenever any of us go out in public. Don't believe us? Visit http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk and just TRY to prove us wrong. Go on! Try it!
We welcome back Chris' nephews Nick and Gabe for a very special Nintendo-centric episode of the Used Gamers Podcast! Chris and the boys check in on the Big N with a discussion of the 3DS, Wii U, and our wishlist for the company's recently teased new console/handheld hybrid hardware. We dive deep into the new batch of Miiverse titles, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Wind Waker HD, and the Wonderful 101.
Pro tip: towards the end of the episode the boys reveal the secret to button-mashing mastery. The more games change, the more gaming stays the same.
Our theme song continues to be "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Do yourself a favor and check him out at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Our second annual year end wrap up finds our hosts reminiscing about the good, the bad, and the ugly in the past year of gaming. We all agree that The Last of Us is amazing, we all missed out on Arkham Origins, we're all are excited about an indie-game-driven future, we agree that not investing in either a PS4 or an XBox One so far was a good idea, and we realize that recording a podcast in three different cities is not without its stumbling blocks. We discuss the origins of both our theme song (the awesome "White Knighting" by Comptroller) and the podcast itself - yay for origin stories! We call out our hits, misses, favorite stories, and picks for personal games of the year, and fill everyone in on some exciting stuff coming up in Used Gamers Land!
Note: it's not that we're opening a Used Gamers Land, however amazing that would be.
Reviews galore, because SO MANY GAMES! Chris makes the 1991 version of himself happy playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Mike and Jared get back on the Borderlands 2 train with the recent Headhunter DLC releases, Chris does his best to talk about Gone Home without actually talking about Gone Home, and Mike and Jared return to Thedas with Heroes of Dragon Age. We close things out with a lengthy discussion about whether or not games have gotten easier in recent years (consensus: they have, that's not necessarily a bad thing, and we are old).
Our theme music is "White Knighting" by Comptrolller. He is better at music than you are. You can find more proof at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
We...still...function! It's been over three months but the boys are back with a vengeance to give YOU a barrage of gaming goodness. Mike runs us through the recent VGX Awards, Chris gives his early impressions of the PS4 and the XBox One, and we discuss the relative strengths and merits of PlayStation Plus and XBox Games with Gold. We then dive into our reviews, covering just about every last gen platform we can: Mike gets all strategic with X-Com: Enemy Within, Jared avoids microtransactions with Knights & Dragons, Chris keeps the 3D slider turned up for Steamworld Dig, and it's a pirate's life for Mike with Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. We close things out with our much-delayed breakdown of our collective experience with Diablo III for PS3. And yes, Jared and Chris now know what the Back button does.
Like the theme music? It's pretty great, isn't it? "White Knighting" by Comptroller is the tune, and more songs like it can be found at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The boys sit down for one reason and one reason only: an in-depth, SUPER SPOILER HEAVY discussion of The Last of Us. Seriously, DO NOT listen to this episode if you haven't beaten the game or have any interest in doing so in the future. Which you should, because it's friggin' amazing. We'd love to hear your thoughts about the game, too! Hit us up on Twitter or Facebook and let us know what you thought of Naughty Dog's PS3 swansong.
Our theme is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. We like it a lot. If you do too, check out more at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The boys jump into a discussion about some of the smaller releases of late: Chris gushes over the Nintendo's recent eShop release of GBC Zelda titles Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, all three of us scratch our heads and try to make sense of the grid-based insanity of Capcom's 3DS title Project X Zone, Mike gives us updates on Neverwinter and Marvel Heroes, and we continue our march towards the new generation with updates on both the PS4 (good news!) and the XBox One (good news?).
Our theme? "White Knighting". Its author? Comptroller (www.cmptrllr.co.uk). Your job? Listen to more of his amazing stuff!
Chris plays host to a discussion of some of the bigger titles that we've been playing lately: The Last of Us, Tomb Raider, and the latest DLC for Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep. All this dovetails nicely into a discussion of the changing face of female characters in games, from the helpless damsel sprites of yesteryear to the fully-rendered 3D badasses of today. Girl power!
"White Knighting" by Comptroller is our theme. Rocking your face off is his mission. http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The E3 goodness continues! In this follow up to our last episode, we wrap up our look back at E3 2013 with a discussion of The Big N's E3 Nintendo Direct, and we marvel at the crowd-pleasing show stopper that was Sony's press conference. After the smoke clears we discuss what we loved (a lot) and what we were disappointed with (very little), and lament the fact that we're not going to have an extra $1,000 laying around come new console launch time later this year.
For our thoughts on the press conferences from Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft, check out Episode 11 for part one of this two-tiered gaming news juggernaut.
As always, our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Check out http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk for more - trust us, it's worth it!
The gentlemen launch into a lengthy discussion about E3 2013. Because we care about you and don't want your minds to explode from too much newsy goodness, this episode will act as the first half of TWO FULL EPISODES (!!!) dedicated to the topic. Here we tackle the press conferences from Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft - check out Episode 12 for our in-depth discussion of the offerings of Nintendo and Sony, as well as a wrap-up where we try to make sense of the whole thing.
As always, our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Listen to more at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
We're back - did you miss us? Jared plays host to a discussion of some of the smaller games of the first half of 2013. We drool over the ginormous skill tree of Path of Exile, and marvel at the ambitious and impossible to pronouce upcoming XBLA game Mars War Logs (say it five times fast). Chris and Mike recount their first co-op stab at the adolescent wish-fulfillment title Fuse, Jared gets all mobile with The Simpsons: Tapped Out, and Mike starts down a deep rabbit hole with the open beta of Neverwinter. We discuss the on-going legal battle between Sega and Gearbox over Aliens: Colonial Marines, and The Used Gamers challenge our listeners to tell us what games we need to play. We're listening - bring it, Internet!
Theme music as always is "White Knighting" by the excellent Comptroller. We really need to get this guy on the show, huh? Till then, you can check out more of his musical goodness at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
So much gamey goodness in one little episode! The boys speculate wildly on the eve of the reveal of Microsoft's successor to the XBox 360, express disappointment with Gearbox's handling of the latest Borderlands 2 DLC, and Mike's review of the latest update to Star Wars: The Old Republic leads to a conversation about free-to-play games, pre-orders, DLC, and season passes. Chris' review of the exceptional PSN-exclusive Guacamelee! turns into a gush-fest over "Metroidvania" games, and we wrap up by having Jared and Chris SPOIL THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS out of BioShock Infinite.
Seriously, don't listen past the 36 minute mark if you don't want this game completely and totally ruined for you.
Seriously!!
As always our theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller, whom you can find out more about at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
It's a great time to be a gamer! Mike plays host as Chris shares his thoughts on the early hours of BioShock Infinite (it's really, really good!!), Jared and Mike get really excited about the long-awaited level cap increase for Borderlands 2 (more better guns to make more better explosions!!), Jared makes a pitch for why you should play Natural Selection 2 (it's like Aliens: Colonial Marines, only it's good!!), we mourn the passing of LucaArts and discuss Star Wars' video game future (let's all pretend that Mike didn't say "LucaArts didn't really make that many great video games"), and finally we get into a big discussion about "always on" gaming (spoiler alert: we're not big fans).
"White Knighting" by Comptroller continues to serve as the theme for our little show. Hey, why mess with a great thing? Check out more at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Returning from a 7 week hiatus (our little show now has 50% more spouses - congratulations Mike!) the boys sit down to discuss X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Gears of War: Judgment, Injustice: Gods Among Us, and the recently revealed PlayStation 4. Mike waxes poetic about the minutiae of turn-based, alien-blasting strategy, Jared defends the merits of OverRun mode and a more naive Baird, and Chris remembers way too much off the top of his head about the details of Sony's next gen console. Also, we all think Batman slamming dumpsters into himself is fantastic.
"White Knighting" by Comptroller continues its run as our show's theme song. It's quite catchy, no? Do yourself a favor and check out more of the man's tunes at http://www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
It's a veritable gaming cornucopia as our heroes recent gaming exploits cover darn near every gaming genre and format out there: cooperative survival horror (Dead Space 3), FPS loot fests (Borderlands 2), brutally punishing platformers (Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels), brutally punishing RPGs (Dark Souls), imbalanced competitive multiplayer (Assassin's Creed III), unforgiving strategy RPGs (Fire Emblem: Awakening), movies masquerading as stealth games (Metal Gear Solid 4), grand fantasy RPGs that are loved by 2/3 of us (Dragon Age: Origins) and puzzle-platforming adventures (The Cave).
No sports games, though. Those are dumb.
Things wrap up with The Used Gamers' first literary review, as we share our thoughts on Ernest Cline's excellent 2011 novel Ready Player One.
Though I cannot prove that he actually exists in our plane of existence, Comptroller is the musical wunderkind who produced the song that serves as our show's theme, "White Knighting". Those seeking to uncover the truth should start looking at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Wistful memories of the past give way to an eager look towards the games and (possible) new consoles of 2013. The boys still like making little numbers fly out of bad guys (Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt DLC), staying firmly one step behind the gaming curve (Dead Space...2), and praise incremental improvements to not-quite-free-to-play games (SW:TOR). We discuss the upcoming games of the first half of the new year, and wrap things up with our hopes (and demands) for Microsoft and Sony as time ticks down in the wait to their next gen consoles.
Like all that chiptune goodness that bookends the episode? That's "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Look him up, cuz he's all rad and stuff. There's more where that came from at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Gas up your DeLorean and fire up the TARDIS - it's The Used Gamers 2012 Year in Review!!!! [INSERT APPLAUSE HERE]. Jared plays host to a discussion of the games, stories, experiences, and controversies that made 2012 a banner year for video games and the people who love them, and we each reveal our personal picks for Game of the Year. SPOILER ALERT: we like creepy things that bite and making things go boom. A lot.
Once again, our theme song for this episode is "White Knighting" by Comptroller, whose amazing auditory delights can be found at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
The men are back from a short hiatus to discuss Wreck-It Ralph (we liked it!), to review the new Borderlands 2 DLC "Mr Torgue's Campaign of Carnage" (Jared and Mike loved it!!), to sing the praises of The Walking Dead by Telltale Games (maybe the best game Chris has ever played!!!), and welcome our show's first guests - Chris' young nephews Nick and Gabe - to discuss their experiences with the newly lauched WiiU. We wrap things up with a discussion about cooperative versus competitive multiplayer gaming (spoiler alert: we play well with others, but not against them).
NOTE: Due to some combination of bad juju and technical nincompoopery, the sound quality in this episode suffers big time in a few places. We're currently working out new options for recording future episodes, so we thank you for bearing with us during our growing pains.
This episode features the music from the album "World Head Law" by chiptune artist Edward Shallow (check him out at edwardshallow.bandcamp.com), and once again our theme is "White Knighting" by Comptroller (www.cmptrllr.co.uk).
This week's release of Assassin's Creed III and Wreck-It Ralph inspire a discussion about game-to-movie adaptations, the importance of boss battles, and our picks for some of the most disappointing game endings of recent years. Jared gets angry at Assassin's Creed: Revelations, Chris fawns over Metroid for the NES, and Mike finally says something critical about a Bioware game.
Once again our show's theme song is "White Knighting" by Comptroller. Check out more bleepy-bloopy awesomeness at www.cmptrllr.co.uk.
Your hosts - Chris, Jared, and Mike - sit down at the mic for the first time to discuss our personal gaming histories, review Borderlands 2 and Dishonored, and chat about the upcoming free-to-play update for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
