BOSTON, Mass. —Professional poker player and media personality Bernard Lee will this month introduce a televised version of The Bernard Lee Poker Show to celebrate its fifth anniversary. Three episodes of the show, each featuring a superstar in the poker world, will air on ComcastSportsNet New England and DirectTVstarting May 7.
Lee, a Wayland resident, has won nearly $2 million and three titles on the tournament circuit. The Harvard University and Babson College graduate worked as a senior marketing/new business development manager at a Massachusetts Fortune 500 company before finishing 13th — New England’s top finisher — in the 2005 World Series of Poker. Recognized as “the voice of poker in New England” by Cardplayer.com, Lee is known worldwide as a poker media personality.
The televised version of The Bernard Lee Poker Show will air Monday nights at 8:30 p.m. with repeats on Sunday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. The May schedule is as follows:
- May 7 – Chris Moneymaker, the 2003 WSOP main event champion whose victory led to a “poker boom;”
- May 14 – Dennis Phillips, the chip leader of the original 2008 WSOP “November Nine” final table whose St. Louis Cardinals cap and white shirt are legendary; and
- May 21 – Phil Hellmuth, the 1989 WSOP main event champion whose victory landed him into record books as the youngest at age 24 and earned him the nickname “poker brat.”
The televised version ofThe Bernard Lee Poker Show coincides with the launch of the Bernard Lee Poker YouTube channel, http://www.youtube.com/user/bernardleepoker. The shows, with additional outtakes, will be posted to the YouTube channel one week after their televised premieres.
The audio version of the show will airfrom 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays in Massachusetts. The show is broadcast, typically live, on 1120AM (Boston), 970AM (Worcester) and 1390AM (Cape Cod) on the Money Matters Radio Network.

This episode of Killer Poker Analysis, my guest was Charlie Shoten. Back in 2002, Charlie took down $112,800 for his 1st place finish at the main event at Hustler Casino's Gland Slam of Poker. And by the end of 2004, he had two more 6-figure cashes: 2nd place at the California State Championship for $107,350, and 2nd place at the WPT Borgata Poker Open for $235,000. For most of his life, Charlie battled in high stakes limit cash games, and he takes that experience with him when he plays limit poker tournaments. The winning mindset he puts forth in his book, No Limit Life, enabled him to make the transition to no-limit hold'em tournaments, and since 2002, he hasn't looked back!
Charlie is a great player, and an enthusiastic teacher. Besides his book, he's a member of the team at Deepstacks. He's headlining one or two speaking events this month that you should definitely check out if you're in his neck of the woods (check out the show for more details), and he's also speaking at the 2007 California Poker Players Conference at Hollywood Park Casino Oct. 20-21.

JJ LIUWith an intriguing fashion sense and an even greater sense for cards, one might think Liu has been playing poker as long as she has been dressing herself. In fact, the Chinese dynamo only started playing serious poker in 1996. Before then, she was the victim of her brothers’ games.
“When I was a little kid, I played with my brothers. They always beat me up and took my money,‿ she said. “I was crying. I said I am going to beat them.‿
By 1996, Liu had made her first big-time final table in a 1996 World Series of Poker limit hold'em event. After that, Liu never looked back and has accumulated hundreds of thousands of dollars in poker winnings.
With more than 40 cash finishes in major tournaments, Liu has proven herself in the poker world. Born in Taiwan and now living in Palo Alto, California, the one-time computer engineer is often the only woman at the poker table. With that in mind, she's gained a lot of experience at besting her male opponents.
“I enjoy beating all the boys. I want to spank their butts,‿ Liu said. “Poker is not lifting weights. Everybody can play. It doesn't matter if you're a man or woman.‿
With a number of goals already met, Liu now has her sights set on winning a World Poker Tour championship. She is currently the only only woman to finish 2nd at a WPT final table.

MIKE SEXTON“The Ambassador of Poker.‿ He is given this name because he is constantly promoting poker, whether it be through writing books and magazine articles, or just doing his commentary on the World Poker Tour.
Mike Sexton started playing poker games when he attended Ohio State University. After graduating he served in the army for a few years, and afterwards got a job as a salesman. He was playing poker at night, and winning more money than he made at his salesman job. Mike quit his job to play poker full-time. Mike enjoyed playing in poker tournaments, but was never able to enter the World Series of Poker because he also coached Little League, which caused schedule conflicts. Mike moved to Las Vegas in 1985 in order to play more poker.
Since he moved to Las Vegas, Mike Sexton has had a lot of poker success. He has made the money 37 times at the World Series of Poker, including a victory at a Seven Card Stud Split event in 1989 to win his first WSOP bracelet. Mike also won the 2006 WSOP Tournament of Champions when he defeated Daniel Negreanu in heads-up play to win the $1 million prize, half of which he donated to charity.
Mike doesn’t play in tournaments as much as he used to, thanks to his jobs as WPT commentator and PartyPoker spokesman.

Do not be surprised if Laak is lying on the ground doing push-ups, or standing behind the dealer to be the first to see the cards. He was born in 1972 in Dublin, Ireland. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in mechanical engineering, and began playing poker in California. He has 12 major cashes, including a win in the 2004 World Poker Tour Invitational. He finished second in the 2005 $2,500 pot-limit hold’em World Series of Poker event. In 2006, he finished fifth in the Seneca World Poker Classic. He has also been featured on NBC’s Poker After Dark. He is dating fellow poker player and actress Jennifer Tilly.
ANTONIO ESFANDIARIAntonio Esfandiari, born on Dec. 8, 1978, in Tehan, Iran, has become a crowd favorite. Also known as “The Magician,‿ Esfandiari made the transition from professional illusionist since the age of 19 to poker professional. He won the 2004 World Poker Tour L.A. Poker Classic, receiving nearly $1.4 million at the age of 25. He became the youngest person ever to win a televised World Poker Tour event, as well as the youngest poker player to win a million-dollar prize. He also won a World Series of Poker bracelet in the 2004 $2,000 pot-limit hold’em event. He finished third in the 2005 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship, winning $125,000. Esfandiari is now a member of the UltimateBet team.
