Miss Seminole County Scholarship Program & Foundation is a volunteer organization that recognizes the intellect and power of young women and is an official preliminary to the Miss Florida and the Miss America Competitions.
Today we speak with Lindsay Bettis who is the inaugural champion of Miss Seminole County. Lindsay took home the top title and received a $1,000 Advent Health college scholarship. Her social impact initiative “Recover Out Loud: Addiction Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery” was formed from her personal experience with the addiction crisis from growing up around substance abuse. Lindsay is now competing in her final year for the title of Miss Florida on June 25, 2022.

The Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium has served as the number 1 facility for space education in Orlando North and Central Florida for more than 25 years. Located at Seminole State College in Sanford, the planetarium offers interactive shows and full-dome video presentations that are second to none. As the Director of the Emil Buehler Planetarium, Derek Detemer is responsible for creating an out of this world experiences for visitors and continuing to educate the community about galaxies far, far away. Miss Seminole County Scholarship Program & Foundation is a volunteer organization that recognizes the intellect and power of young women and is an official preliminary to the Miss Florida and Miss America Competitions.
Today we talk updates to the competition with the Executive Director of The inaugural Miss Seminole County Scholarship Competition, Amanda Babcock. The program has been rescheduled to take place on Sunday, November 7 2021 at 3pm.
The competition will be held in the historical and beautiful, Ritz Theater at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center in downtown Sanford, Florida.

9 year old, Nathaniel Forkin, aka Chef Nano, is already taking the culinary world by storm. He recently competed with other kids across the state of Florida in the 2021 Lunchroom Wars and took home 2nd place with his homemade lasagna. A 25-year veteran of intercollegiate athletics, Scott Carr has been a member of the UCF Athletics staff since 2016. Carr joined the Knights as Executive Associate Athletics Director/CMO in February of 2016 and was promoted to Deputy AD for Brand Activation in April of 2018. Carr recently oversaw the transfer of management of the UCF Convocation Corporation from the University Administration to UCF Athletics. The wholly owned corporation is a $20M annual operations entity that consists of student housing, retail space and Addition Financial Arena. He also serves on the Executive Committee as Chair-Elect for the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.

As a native Floridian, Chad Crawford has always loved his home state, and he’s made it his mission to share it with the world. He’s often called Florida’s Ambassador for this very reason. Christa Teno, Head Women’s Golf Coach for the Seminole State Raiders, has been playing competitive golf since she was 12 years old in Canada. The former LPGA Tour player was named 2018 LPGA National Coach of the Year and Southeast Section Coach of the Year by the LPGA Membership in 2008, 2012 and 2015. During her tenure, Teno has coached her team to two National championships, five runner-up finishes, and two third place finishes at the NJCAA National Event.
Teno was also instrumental in securing the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championships scheduled to be held at Timacuan Golf Club, May 8 - 12, 2022.

Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Carrie Lawrence was an All-Metro and All-State Player for Timber Creek High School and was named Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player while capturing Metro and District championships. Carrie played club soccer for Florida Kraze Krush, winning state and regional championships, and was also a member of the Region III Olympic Development Program team. Carrie signed with the Orlando Pride and became one of the few athletes to play high school, collegiate, and professionally for their hometown teams. During the episode, we discuss the importance of family in Carrie's journey and the growth of female sports world wide.

MOGL was founded in 2020 by Ayden Syal and Brandon Wimbush, two Notre Dame graduates. Brandon started at Quarterback for the Irish in 2017 and led them to a 10-3 record that year. Given their familiarity with the surrounding area and the athletics space, they are extremely excited and well equipped to provide value to all parties. MOGL, a tech-enabled marketing agency dedicated to servicing athletes, is now open for sign-ups. MOGL was founded on the premise of empowering athletes to be compensated for the value that they provide their communities following the federal legalization of the NCAA Name, Image, and Likeness ruling in August of 2021. The MOGL platform works as a virtual agent allowing business owners to connect with former and current student athletes with offers for appearances, endorsements, social media campaigns, and other opportunities.

Tricia Johnson guides us through the resources available to Seminole County business owners and residents. Seminole CARES proposes 100% of the initial disbursement of CARES Act funds from the State of Florida be allocated towards the County businesses, residents, and not-for-profits hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The County Commission has allocated $10 million towards Seminole CARES Small Business Grants, $7 million towards Seminole CARES Individual Grants, and up to $3 million towards Seminole CARES Not-For-Profit Grants.
