This is our first episode of The Planet Man podcast. It was originally the fifth episode of that series. It's a fun, silly space adventure staring Dantro, the troubleshooter for the league of planets!
Commander Corey and Cadet Happy are on the planet mercury organizing a rescue mission for Professor Mallison, who's spaceship vanished on the dark side of Mercury, but a second emergency on the hot side of the planet sends the Commander Corey and his Cadet racing to the hot side of the planet, to Solaria, the City of the Sun in this episode originally broadcast on November 8th, 1952.
This episode manages to be genuinely tense and atmospheric in a way that many other Space Patrol episodes can't achieve. It achieves this, in part, by cutting back and forth between Corey/Happy and two criminals, there's a real cat-and-mouse feel to it, and it's a lot of fun.
This is one of the first episodes of Space Patrol I ever heard, and it got me hooked on the series. As far as I'm concerned, this is an absolute high point.

Space Age Radio Presents Buck Rogers!
This episode, originally released in April 1939, details the Origin Story of Buck Rogers, an earth man of the 20th century who finds himself stranded in the 25th century, by way of an interrogation between some scientists, and the subconscious mind of Buck Rogers.
Be warned that, due to it's age, this series is only available in relatively poor quality, that's not to say that it's un-enjoyable, but it's rougher than I would prefer. This episode is presented in the highest quality available, and for the 30s, it sounds pretty darn good.
This episode, like many episodes in this series, ends in a cliffhanger, but it's a pretty minor one. You'll have to wait a full month before the next episode!
(Oh, and be sure to eat your Popsicle, they're nutritious apparently.)

Surprise Episode!
Chapter one of Rip Foster Rides the Grey Planet by Harold Godwin!
This is a fun Space Adventure in the style of Tom Corbett, Space Cadet or Space Patrol. The principal difference here s that Rip Foster isn't a cadet, he has just graduated from the space academy. He's a newly commissioned lieutenant, charged with a team of 9 men, and a vital mission. As a result, the danger is more real, and the stakes are higher.
Originally published in 1952, story carries with it a hint of Red Scare era rah-rah, and a thinly veiled cold war analog. In spite of that, it manages to be enjoyable, and entertaining. The story also manages to get both the science of space travel and the mechanics and politics of a large military organization more correct than most of the TV and Radio programs of the day.
There are twenty chapters total. We'll release a chapter at irregular intervals every few days for the next 3 months. If you can't wait, a version of the whole novel is available from Librivox, and a print edition is available from Space Age Ideas.
