FOOLED YOU! There’s no episode from me this time! Instead, as part of a cross-promotional initiative by Moxie at Your Brain on Facts, I’m sharing an episode from The Vocal Fries Podcast. Vocal Fries is a podcast about linguistic discrimination hosted by Carrie and Megan where they discuss language and interview guests about language and our use of language. In this episode, they discuss profanity in the context of the Netflix documentary “A History of Swearing” hosted by Nicholas Cage. Sufficed to say, this episode is NSFW. But, that’s no excuse not to listen or to subscribe to their podcast.

At this point, I'm like Michael Corleone in Godfather III, every time I get out, politics pulls me back in. It's longer than the usual quick hit, but still goes by pretty quick, especially with music added in.

NSFW! There are so many f-bombs in this episode, it's like Tarantino wrote it. I took some time off, got the election out of my system, recharged the ole batteries, and was ready to resume podcasting in 2021. I even had a topic researched and an episode ready to record. Then a bunch of brown-shirts, at the behest of the Orange God King, stormed the Capitol Building to try to put the fear of God, or to hasten their meeting God, in the United States Congress and/or the Vice President of the United States. So, guess what this episode is about. I'm not kidding about the language, though. This was a cathartic expulsion of 5 years of frustration culminating in an epic rant instigated by an epic, historical event (and not a good one). There's not even music in this episode except at the beginning and the end. If you're a Trump fan or a Trump supporter, and you don't want to hear it, you should probably skip this one.

In the midst of a raging pandemic, we had an election. You might have heard about it. Fortunately, it ended with the promised expulsion of President Oompa Loompa. But it wasn’t boring and it wasn’t without things to think about…and talk about going forward. In this episode, I wax rhapsodic on some of those storylines for the future. Also, at the end, I look back on the end of Marvel’s Agents of Shield. Come for the punditry, stick around for the geekery.

Election Day draws near…THE END IS NIGH!!! Or so we were pseudonymously told 4 years ago (in an obscure right-wing publication) and again still today. In this episode, we go back 4 years and explore the ‘Flight 93 Election’ metaphor by going to the source material and evaluating its effectiveness, and histrionic shortcomings. It’s a metaphor that hasn’t gone away and is just as relevant in 2020 as it was in 2016.

I've avoided Covid-19 as a topic for the show...until now. But, I thought a testimonial from a fifth-grader about how different school is now compared to one year ago would be a good contribution. Plus, it gave me an excuse to get my daughter on the show...

As we commemorate the 19th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, I thought I would raise this question that’s becoming more relevant with the passage of time. With have a generation that has been born since 9/11 and how they view that terrible event is different than how I view that event or how my parents or grandparents view that event. The inevitable prism of history is beginning to emerge. So, with that understanding, is it okay to forget 9/11?

On May 30th, 2020, I recorded a complete episode in the days after the murder of George Floyd, weeks after the murder of Breonna Taylor, and months after the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. I stopped in the middle of my edit and held onto the episode, greatly influenced and persuaded by my #podfamily on Twitter. Now, after more time and more perspective, I'm adding my contribution, such as it is, to the ongoing discussions that we're all having on these issues. It's a show within a show, so to speak, with my quasi-visceral thoughts in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder.

Do you remember when MTV stood for Music Television? No? That’s because it was a long long long time ago when it did. In another quarantine-based nostalgia trip, I go back and talk about when MTV was at the ZENITH of its power in the late 80s and early 90s as the quintessential pop culture force in American and possibly the world. It’s another “GET OFF MY LAWN!” episode.

Time waits for no one. All kinds of egg on my face in this episode. First, I had to do an update/correction from the last episode (Yes, about Curtis Hill). I spent a lot of time talking about Bernie’s intransigence, then he dropped out of the race four days later. Otherwise, in this NON-COVID episode, I talk about Star Trek: Picard, Tom Brady’s new job, my adieu to Bernie Bros, and why I hope movie theaters survive this pandemic….plus new theme music…

Identity is such a complicated word with so many applications and connotations that this was really the only way to discuss it without creating a whole new podcast for it. This Quick Hit isn’t comprehensive in any conceivable way and it isn’t intended to be. This subject, though, is the embodiment of what this podcast tries to do, when it’s not mired in the indulgences of its host.

I LOVE PROFANITY! It’s fun. It’s dynamic. It’s effective. In this episode, I discuss my love for this topic, I teach the mouse in my pocket a little bit about George Carlin and how he inadvertently ended up in front of the Supreme Court, and I fixate a little too much on Dennis Franz's ass (You see, kids, Dennis Franz was an acclaimed actor in the 90s on the now quaint cop show NYPD Blue).
Plus, added some creative commons background music for mood throughout.

This was a surprising episode in regards to the primary topic. I was expecting to get all ranty like the Incel episode. Instead, though, through the power of extremely limited research, I revised my approach. Also covered on this episode are my affinities for Dwayne Johnson and Star Trek: The Motion Picture as well as the absence of movies about September 11, 2001. Check out @IncelProject, which I namedrop toward the end. Also, stick around for an ad for @Morbidology at the end.

In honor of the One-Year Anniversary of the show, I thought it would be nice to walk down memory lane by rebroadcasting the Pilot Episode (back when the show was called I Have Questions). However, to score cheap publicity, I've remastered this episode to improve the audio quality of my voice (because it's all about me), replaced the intro music with something that sounds better, as well as exit music. The music added are new compositions (using loops in Garageband). And, much like Dark Side of the Moon, I'm sure this will not be my only crack at remastering this episode (see me in 2020).

This is episode 7 but in the episode, I say it's Episode 8. OOPS! Here's the link to the Curtis Hill articles that I referenced in the episode: https://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2018/10/23/indiana-attorney-general-curtis-hill-not-face-criminal-charges/1732135002/

There were microphone issues in this episode, particularly on the back half of the recording. But, I really enjoyed this topic because of how prescient it's going to be over the next several decades. H/T to my wonderful wife for giving it to me...while I was in the dentist's chair.

I was finally able to cover 2 topics in one episode!! And they are very different topics from what this show's covered so far...as well as from each other. Here is the reference page that I mentioned on the Meaning of Life: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meaning_of_life.

A SuperGeeky Episode!!! I ramble and wax poetic about the glorious emotional countenance I glean from superhero movies.

This is something a little different. Some questions don't require a whole episode to discuss. Some can be short and sweet. For those questions, I'm gonna try what I call "Quick Hits." Upon editing this episode, I realize that not every idea or notion presented was brought to its fullest clarity or resolution. At times, as I'm predisposed to do, I get sidetracked or wander off the clear path. So, I hope you'll forgive me on this one and fill in the appropriate blanks for me as you listen.

The best laid plans of Mice and Men... I had intended to cover 3 topics in the 2nd Episode... I got thru 1 topic in 1 hour. So, Episode 2B will be coming quickly. This episode is mostly for my own amusement regarding the sudden events a local politician in my home state. Enjoy!
