Walt Disney World is celebrating the 30th anniversary of “The Lion King” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park until September 6. Come enjoy character greetings, themed food and drinks, unique merchandise, and more surprises!
Here’s a quick look at some of the anniversary highlights that guests have experienced this summer!
‘Lion King’ Characters at Animal Kingdom
During the 30th anniversary celebration of “The Lion King” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests can meet their favorite characters, Timon and Rafiki, at Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Visitors can take the train to Conservation Station by entering near the exit of Kilimanjaro Safaris in the park. The My Disney Experience app provides details on when both characters will be available this summer.
At Conservation Station, guests can also learn to draw other favorite characters from “The Lion King” at Animation Experience.
New ‘Lion King’ Anniversary Treats
New, limited-time delights feature characters from the film, including Simba, Rafiki, Timon, and Zazu.
The large and adorable Simba Paw Cookie is available at outdoor food carts throughout the park during the festivities.
Another themed must-try is the You Follow Old Rafiki Cheesecake! This dessert combines passion fruit mango cheesecake with a coconut-lime crust, vanilla bean chantilly, and a chocolate medallion on top.
Rafiki’s Squash Banana shake with squash bananas, baobab fruit, vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom is another must-try this summer. Guests can find it at Tiffins Restaurant, along with the Remember Who You Are “The Lion King” 30th Anniversary Dessert. (above, right).
The Remember Who You Are at Tiffins Restaurant is a Kenyan coffee mousse filled with caramelized bananas, chai chantilly, banana caramel sauce, chocolate coffee crumble, chocolate decoration, and a sugar sun.
The Simba at Eight Spoon Cafe is a mango-flavored slushy with grenadine and two gummy candies. And Timon’s Luau is a unique dessert that pays homage to Timon’s iconic hula from the film.
Timon’s Luau – which can be found at the Isle of Java in the park – features vanilla chiffon, passion fruit curd, guava jam, vanilla chantilly cream, and an edible tropical flower for the lei and mint for the hula skirt.
The Zazu Ice Cream Sandwich will likely be one of guests’ favorites all summer. Vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two blue cake-coated sugar cookies, with a chocolate medallion on top. Guests can find this treat at Tamu Tamu Refreshments.
New ‘Lion King’ Merchandise Guests Will Want ASAP
For the anniversary celebration, in addition to the Pumbaa popcorn bucket, there’s also a special merchandise collection. The new items and gear are perfect for a visit to our iconic “The Festival of the Lion King” show.
This special collection includes an amazing sweatshirt for adults featuring Simba silhouetted against the setting sun and “The Lion King” logo, as well as a blue and white tie-dye youth zip hoodie. The collection also features a colorful “Hakuna Matata” ear headband to celebrate 30 years of The Lion King.
Guests will also notice new items, including a trendy fanny pack, a youth shirt and short set, and an adult yellow sweatshirt featuring favorite characters.
Guests can find these special items and more during the celebration at Island Mercantile in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
“The Festival of the Lion King,” a larger-than-life show based on the classic movie, will have even more magic during this summer’s anniversary celebration with MagicBand+.
Guests’ MagicBand+ will come to life with dancing lights and haptic vibrations during key moments throughout the show.

The Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland has captured the hearts of visitors since 1969. It has inspired multiple adaptations and merchandise lines. The upcoming Haunted Mansion Parlor will honor its fandom and introduce the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion saga!
Disney Cruise Line and Disney Imagineers are designing a new experience that blends the nostalgia of the original ride with a fresh nautical storyline. The bar will resemble a ship parlor once owned by a sea captain and his intriguing fiancé, who vanished mysteriously. The venue will be full of hidden clues, challenging guests to uncover the truth behind the couple’s disappearance.
Something Seems Fishy About This Aquarium
Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump proposed a “Museum of the Weird” exhibit for the original Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. Although not all of his concepts were used, a sketch of a mysterious aquarium filled with ghost fish inspired new Imagineers to create a modern “Aquarium with Ghost Fish” over fifty years later for the Haunted Mansion Parlor.
The aquarium blends nostalgia and lore, woven into the backstory of the parlor’s former sea captain owner. Legends say he vanished, leaving only his hat floating in the tank. Perhaps his disappearance sheds new light on the phrase “fish food.”
An Eerie Art Collection
The Haunted Mansion Parlor will have an eerie portrait gallery featuring ghostly residents of the Disney Treasure. The paintings will mimic the art style used in the Haunted Mansion attraction, and modern technologies will be used to entertain guests in new ways.

Disney animator Marc Davis created the Mariner portrait, which is displayed at Haunted Mansion, Walt Disney World Resort, and Tokyo Disney Resort. The portrait will now be on the Disney Treasure, continuing Davis’ legacy.
A smiling sea captain’s portrait will decorate the Haunted Mansion Parlor. He dreamed of serving on a luxury ocean liner but passed away before it could happen. His cheerful soul lives on in his private parlor.

The Haunted Mansion Parlor will feature The Captain’s bride-to-be portrait, inspired by Marc Davis’ “cat lady” concept. The painting will flicker to expose her true form and intentions.
The Captain received a distress signal and found a woman as the sole survivor amidst the wreckage. Her beauty caught his eye, and they became inseparable, soon to be married.
Ghostly Drinkware Anyone!
Haunted Mansion Parlor portraits inspired the Disney Cruise Line commemorative mug collection. The ceramic mugs will look like they are carved from the wooden planks of a ghost ship. The first series includes The Mariner and The Captain’s Bride.
The Haunted Mansion Parlor will begin welcoming foolish mortals when the Disney Treasure sets sail on its maiden voyage on December 21st, 2024!

This beloved show features a high-spirited musical performance by the Pioneer Hall Players complete with foot-stompin’ folk songs, singing, dancing, zany comedy, and a fantastic feast—all in the rustic setting of an Old West dance hall. Victoria & Albert’s has been a popular fine-dining restaurant for over 20 years. It offers a multi-course dining experience that features high-quality ingredients from all over the world. The restaurant’s wine collection is impressive, with over 500 selections, and the sommeliers are there to help you make the right choice. If you prefer alcohol-free beverages, there’s a zero-proof menu available as well. The restaurant’s Chef de Cuisine, Matthew Sowers, has spent almost two decades at Victoria & Albert’s. He has also helped create menus for other acclaimed restaurants, such as Remy on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Pastry Chef Ally Rogers heads the resort’s pastry team. Both chefs work hard to create an innovative dining experience that delights guests. Recently, Victoria & Albert’s was awarded a Michelin star, an honor Chef Matthew and his team are proud of. They hope to inspire future culinary professionals to follow their dreams.
Israel Perez is a dedicated sommelier who has been creating memorable experiences at Walt Disney World Resort’s signature restaurants for over twenty years. He was recently awarded the 2024 Florida Service Award for his work. As the maître d’hotel at Victoria & Albert’s, Israel and his team ensure that every guest has a perfect evening.
Executive Chef Kevin Chong oversees culinary operations and teams at the resort’s 13 food and beverage locations. Culinary Director Chef Scott Hunnel provides his expertise and mentorship to culinary teams across multiple Disney Resort Hotels at Walt Disney World Resort.
Victoria & Albert’s is the first and only U.S. theme park restaurant to receive a MICHELIN Star. It’s also the only Florida establishment to receive the AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Travel Guide Five Star awards. Only 26 U.S. restaurants have received this honor. The Grand Floridian Strawberry Soup will also be back to please guests and their taste buds with its delicious strawberry flavor.As part of the resort’s ongoing transformation, 1900 Park Fare will get a newly reimagined look while still retaining its grand charm. Walt Disney World Resort is now accepting bookings for hotel rooms and theme park tickets for stays from January to October 2025, starting February 27, 2024. With over 25 resorts to choose from, guests have the option to book value, moderate or deluxe accommodations. As a new perk, guests who stay at a Disney Resort hotel can enjoy admission to one of our water parks on their check-in day, which is included in their stay. With big thrills, lazy rivers, wave pools, interactive play areas for younger kids, and water slides for the whole family, the fun can start on day one at a water park. Guests are advised to check the water park operating hours closer to 2025 arrivals.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park provides guests with an array of arctic adventures amid the warm climate in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Guests experienced the new touches from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film Frozen inside Tikes Peak, as well as plenty of mouthwatering culinary creations and popular polar attractions (Amy Smith, photographer).
