In this week's episode we dive into the influence bodybuilding has on many training programs and the issues associated, the importance of training the extremes (high volume and high intensity) and not blending the two, and why adding unstable surfaces to exercises can be problematic and how to actually train stability/balance. Recovery touches more aspects of your performance and development than you think.
I feel like most advice around recovery is only scratching the surface of why it’s important. If I had to guess, you’ve heard all the common recommendations (get more sleep, eat healthy, stretch, do cold baths, etc.), but how confident would you be in explaining how each of these things play into your overall performance?
In this episode we get into all the reasons your recovery is so important, then dive into all the nuances around different recovery methods and how to use them.

In this video I provide a deep dive into the concepts and implications around volume and intensity. I believe these should be the key factors guiding our decisions around all strength & conditioning work, individual skill development, and team practices.
We’ll discuss how separating high volume from high intensity produces substantially higher quality, and therefore better development for the athlete. We will also analyze some clips from in the gym, on the basketball court, and on the soccer pitch so we can get a feel for what high intensity and high volume looks like.

Coaches and athletes alike can be too quick to blame a weakness on one specific root cause (or simply link it to insufficient practice doing the task). In reality, holes in an athlete's game can be highly complex and multi-faceted. In this video I break down a framework for identifying weaknesses, analyzing their root causes, and then correctly prioritizing our training to make the most amount of progress. Remember, we want to work top down in the way we correct weaknesses (from the most relevant to our outcome to the least), but then we must work bottom up in our attempt to fix root causes. Failure to apply one of the two will cause a drastic misapplication of training and provide inefficient progress.

Unfortunately, many team pre-seasons will start off far too aggressively. This often leaves athletes (you) dealing dealing with unnecessary injuries. In this episode, we focus on two things that you can control in the process to maximize your performance and limit your risk of getting hurt to start your season.

It happens to all of us: we set a goal, we work really hard towards it, but then progress seems slow and we give up discouraged. When we value to outcome too much (the external reward - uncontrollable) we are less likely to be successful. Today I show you how to shift your mindset and your focus to ensure that you stay on track and are more productive than ever. Let's get started! As always, reach out on Instagram @miller_performance. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
