Water is Life is a radio show produced by Jana Thrift in Eugene Oregon. It is a place for conversations about the different ways we love an hour our sacred water and the work that is being done to protect it. In this show our first conversation began with my beautiful friend Elana and we talked about her life as a child with her mother Moonwater and her love for water that began very young. In the second part of the show we have Community Rights Lane County organizer and member of Freedom From Aerial Herbicides Alliance Michelle Holman. She shares how aerial herbicide spraying effects our watersheds, the health of our planet and all its creatures. Especially exciting though, is her info about the ban on aerial spraying that Lincoln County, Oregon just passed and the work that has hopefully made it so Lane County, Oregon will be having the opportunity to vote for a ban on aerial spraying also.
With Jana Thrift and John Abbe as hosts, this Water Is Life show is an interview with Jana's granddaughter Jenah'Eve Hartman. Jenah shares with us all the things she loves about water and also her concerns about the need to keep it clean for future generations.
For the first half of our show we have Hafiz Leland, a Sufi leader from our Eugene community and Board President of the Interfaith Prayer Service, talking about the many different ways water is spiritually honored in traditions worldwide. Then we move our focus to an interview with local water protecter Ada Ball, talking about the potential impact of the proposed Pacific Connector Pipeline intended to run across the southern part of Oregon.
Jana Thrift and John Abbe interview Jasun Plaedo Wellman, a musician and member of Eugene Avant Gardeners. Plaedo shares a song he has written called "Water Is Life" and talks about the connection between growing food and our precious water resources. Highly inspirational, Cambria, Shay and Kiran will talk about Heirs To Our Oceans and their journey in the organization as Heirs. Heirs to Our Oceans is a global movement that is creating the next generation of environmental leaders. These youth recognize that they will be inheriting the problems their oceans face from adults today, and they are rolling their sleeves up to do something about it. Educational reform is a driving force of Heirs To Our Oceans as kids in primary and middle school can learn about the problems their planet faces and follow a path of solutions in their careers. They take on important matters, learning deeply about them with expert mentors, and try to encourage children everywhere to do the same.
