There is a virus ravaging America and it's called Covid-19. Three months ago, no one knew that it existed. But now this virus has spread to every part of the world. It has filled our hospitals, emptied our public spaces, and kept us all at home.
Frontline healthcare workers are our heroes as they are seeing the worst of it all. Today I am talking with one of them. She happens to be a Lean In circle leader (Latinasurge.org)and an ER doctor in the New Jersey area, just a few miles from NYC.
Shreni is an Emergency Medicine trained and board-certified Emergency Medicine Physician and has been in practice now for 14 years.
She has worked in inner cities, suburban, and rural emergency departments.
Currently practicing in northern New Jersey, Shreni will share her views as a frontline worker during this pandemic. She will also talk the struggles women have to advance in the world of medicine. She will also tell us what she is doing to help stay healthy and keep her family healthy as well.

This summer I had a chance to visit Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a few days. It was so much fun taking my daughter there and seeing my old vacation spot.
Growing up I used to spend a whole week in Myrtle Beach, body surfing, playing in the sand, taking walks down the beach and having fun on the strip. Back then the strip had a few restaurants, two arcades(my hangout), the wax museum and tons of gift shops. One, in particular, was my favorite.
Things have changed and now when I visit I try to find hidden gems that keep the spirit of Myrtle Beach alive for me. I do believe I have found some great places to share with you.

Big Apple Bagels
Rip Tydz - for some great seafood and view
Hipsy Gypsy
My old favorites:

My guests for episode #136 are two Nashville bloggers who happen to be best friends. Together they make up the duo known as Hey Wanderer, sharing all the things in life, travel, and style. Savannah and Casey sat down with me today and we talked about that one thing that would make all bloggers cringe. On the business side, we discussed their partnership, how they split up tasks and how they self evaluate. We also share our favorite Nashville spots including where to get the best French Toast Latte and where they take out of town guests. This conversation was so much fun.

In Celebration of Black History Month on Rising Stories, we are continuing our conversations with Women of Color who are changing their world. Today I am speaking with an influencer who is creating a space for women who are not of color to learn about racial justice and about sisterly love. Marcie began her journey on racial discussions after reaching out to a teacher when her daughter’s class began slave debates. Listen to hear the outcome of this conversation.

Today’s guest is an activist, writer, speaker, who critically analyzes white feminism. She is causing quite an upheaval on Instagram as she explores the "intersection of race and womanhood" She also voices her views through her workshops, and Harper’s Bazaar essays. Rachel Cargle is providing intellectual discourse, resources, and tools to help dismantle the systems that are harming people of color. But on Rising Stories Podcast you will hear a different side of Rachel Cargle.
On this show, you will find out why Rachel is an entrepreneur at heart. Rachel has one of the healthiest views on money I have heard of in a long while. She gives us a glimpse into her life from moving to DC to running her corporation and initiatives. This woman knows about finances! Having raised over $218,000 to help pay for therapy and mental health counseling for women & girls of color.
We also touch on the topic of where black men can find their place in the spaces she is shedding light on for women. Listen to the very end when Rachel answers my lightning round of fun questions.

Welcome to Season 3 of Rising Stories Podcast!
As most of you know, I am the Lean In regional leader for LEAN IN Tennessee. Last August I attended the global Lean In regional leaders conference in Palo, California, where I met some amazing women who spoke and encouraged us to continue on our journey for gender equality in the workplace. This guest was one of those speakers, and I knew I had to have her on the show
My guest for our season opener is Joanne Lipman, Joanne is the bestselling author of That's What She Said: What Men Need to Know (and Women Need to Tell Them) About Working Together. One of the nation's leading journalists, she most recently was the chief content officer of Gannett and editor-in-chief of USA TODAY.
Joanne and I talk about the discussions that we all need to be having with the men we work with. Conversations that need to take place about the #metoo topic and how we, as women, can move into a better place of equality.
It was a fantastic conversation filled with lots of great advice and insights for how we, as women, can move into a place of equality in the workplace. Joanne and I also talked about her book club, her best business advice from her former boss and we even talked about her favorite seasonal snack!

Today is a recognized day for women like me. It's Latina Equal Pay Day. A day to bring awareness to this inequality in the U.S. As the host of Rising Stories Podcast and Regional Leader for Lean In Tennessee, I want to share some data today from Lean IN.org on the pay gap for Latina women and the implications it has had on our futures and our families.
Here are just a few calls to action provocations.
You can also turn awareness into action by joining a Lean In circle and taking strides toward a more equal world. Lean In Circles are small peer groups that meet regularly to share ideas, gain skills, seek advice, and show solidarity. They're a place where women can be unapologetically ambitious. Being in a circle has allowed me to ask for what I want and to aim higher. I am supported by a whole world of powerful women.
You can join our circle here or by visiting Lean In org circles to find a circle and network near you.

My guest for episode #111 is Jennifer Briney from the Congressional Dish Podcast. I met Jen at a podcast event in Nashville and knew I had to interview. I always wanted to know more about what they are talking about on C-Span. Jen knows all about it, she is savvy about all things Congress and bills. Jen speaks from the perspective of a fed up taxpayer with no allegiance to any political party, and boy does she dish about both parties on this interview.
