What’s in a name? More than just a way to identify someone, a name represents the essence of someone – their nature, their position and even the authority they carry. As we continue to look at the Presence and Power of God, we see that there is a name which is above every name, and that name carries with it the very power of God, made available to all those who believe. And that name is? Jesus!
Are you looking for breakthrough in your life? The answer may very well be in the words you speak. We read in the bible that there is power of life and death in the words we speak and so as we continue in our Talk Series ‘Power and Presence’ we look at the power of our words and the importance of proclaiming God’s truth into our lives.
Within the heart of every one of us, God has placed a unique Hunger and passion for His presence and Power. But live can be challenging and cause our hunger and passion for God to diminish. But God loves us abundantly and calls us to draw close to Him and as we do so, He draws closer to us.
••
What do we mean by the power of God in the lives of believers? What is the ‘source’ of this power, the ‘purpose’ of this power and the ‘why’ of this power. As we continue in our Talk Series ‘Presence and Power’ Mark walks through the first chapter of the letter to the Ephesians as we uncover the truth of God’s power in our lives.
The great Pastor and Theologian AW Tozer, once said ‘Within every human breast rages this desire, driving him forward. Many a person confuses the object of that desire and spends his or her entire life striving for the unobtainable.
Very simply put, the great passion in the heart of every human being, who are created in the image of God, is to experience the awesome majesty of God’s presence.’ Does that hit a chord with you?
As we start a new Talk Series entitled ‘Presence and Power’ we look at what it means to experience the presence of God and the invitation to draw near that God issues to each one of us.
What are you reaching for? A new car, a promotion or maybe success in another area. Whilst these are not bad in themselves, the question is, is that all? As we end the Reach Talk Series, Mark looks at 1 Corinthians 3 and the call to build in this life, in the light of eternity.••
As we continue to look at Reach ’24 and the mission that God has given us to ‘Extend our Reach, to Reach the lost’, Mark looks at the new places we will be creating this year.

Wendy explores how we become more intimately at one with Jesus who is our Hope. As we yield totally to the indwelling and infilling of Holy Spirit in every aspect of our lives, we miraculously become transformed into the likeness of Jesus. The examples of Moses, David, and the beloved disciple John - as well as former slave-trader John Newton -demonstrate the changes He can bring.
What does the resurrection of Jesus mean to you? As we end our Hope Series, Mark looks at the Hope that comes from the empty tomb an the truth that Jesus lives today, bringing hope to the world.
What does Resurrection Sunday mean to you?
Mark looked at 3 hopes of the resurrection of Jesus,
How can you share this hope with others? Maybe have someone in mind and pray together for that person and for an opportunity to share this hope.

In our modern world, we have tried our best to eradicate the need to wait. Whether through the advent of credit or through the innovation of instant communication and information, waiting has become something which our parents had to endure. But what does the Bible say about waiting? As we continue in our Hope series, Mark looks at why God often requires us to wait for His promises and how we can wait in Hope for Him.
Did you know that God takes pleasure in certain things? As we continue in our Hope series, Mark looks at Psalm 147 and the truth that God takes pleasure in us putting our Hope in ‘His steadfast love’. Unpacking the Psalm together we look at why we can put our hope in His love and what our response to His love should be as believers in Christ.
What do you think of when you hear the word ‘Mercy’? Maybe visions of wrestlers in the ring crying out for mercy as their opponent has them locked in a hold which they know they can’t get out of. Or maybe it’s closer to home – maybe in your own life you carry shame and guilt for something you’ve done, and you know you need the Mercy of God. Looking at the story of Jonah, we see that the Mercy of God is something we can always put our hope in.••
I will make the Valley of Achor a Doorway of Hope. Achor means trouble which speaks of our sin nature. God is shaking the earth to shake us out of trouble and into destiny. We enter in through the doorway of Hope which is Jesus! There are keys that open up the doorway of Hope:Repentance / Humility / Agreement / Courage / Rejoicing

Our passion is to be radically transformed into the likeness of Jesus as we encounter His presence, worship together, serve one another, walk in the truth of God's word and extend Jesus' love into our communities around us.
In a world of increasing danger, we have a number of things we look to protect us, whether a seatbelt in the car or a burglar alarm in our house, we all desire to be safe. But did you know that God himself promises to be your protection in all things? As we look at Psalm 91, Mark asks the question, how do we walk in the Hope of His protection in our every day lives.Bible References:📖 - Romans 12 v12📖 - Psalm 91
God gives us incredible promises of provision in the bible. We also live our lives here on earth and sometimes it's hard to understand how what we read and know about God's provision makes sense for the reality we have to walk out. How do we as followers of Jesus walk in confident expectation of God’s provision? As we explore what God’s provision is and Abraham's example, we start to see how God makes himself known as Jehovah Jireh in our lives today.
Are you looking to walk in hope rather than hopelessness? As we continue in our HOPE series looking at the Hope of God in our lives, Mark looks at three practical ways in which we can cultivate a lifestyle of walking in the hope of God.

As individuals and the body of Christ, we are called and commissioned - called to relationship with Jesus and invited to partner in His work on the earth. But how do we walk this out well, ensuring that we keep God as our first love, while giving our yes in faith and obedience to everything He commissions us to do on the earth? As we dig into a story in Joshua, we discover God shows us how, through the beauty of consecration.

We have our babies and our retired members all together in one room. It is full of interactive moments and manages to hold together both deep reverence and super silliness.
When you hear the word ‘Obedience’ what does it conjure up for you? Maybe it brings back memories of school or moments where you were compelled to follow orders. But what does Jesus mean by it? As we continue to look at the Call to fulfil the Great Commission, we get to Hallmark number 4, and the requirement to be obedient to His Word.

In 2022 Mark Helvadjian, our Senior Pastor, launched our REACH vision. REACH is a 10 year plan to create new spaces and places for people to encounter Jesus. Just over a year in we have launched a brand-new Youth Auditorium, Kids space, SEN ministry and launched a new site in Hatfield.Today Mark talks about why God is calling us to extend our reach to reach the lost.
The world might tell you or try to define what power is. But as the Bible tells us, we are not of this world. How the Kingdom of God operates is completely different to how the world operates. As we delve into the story of The Centurions Faith, we see that he showed a different form of power, he recognizes Jesus’ authority and he acts in humility and has great faith! Bible references:📖 - Luke 7: 1-11
At Easter time we celebrate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Whilst this reality has universal consequences for all, it is also a personal invitation to each one of us. As we look at the story of Mary and Jesus and the empty to tomb, what we are being invited to. Bible References 📖 - John 20:1-18 📖 - John 3:16
What does it mean to live a life of Holiness and what are the tensions we face in doing so? As we conclude our series based on A.W Tozer’s ‘Pursuit of God’ we look at the call to live a life of Holiness and the challenge of the so called Secular/Sacred divide. Are you ready to surrender all and live an undivided life?••Bible references:📖 - 1 Cor 10:31📖 - Matthew 22:37📖 - Romans 12:1
For Connect Groups using your talk, what 3 questions would you want them to discuss?”
Read 1 Corinthians 10:31. What does this mean to you?
Mark looked at the so called Secular and Sacred divide and the tension it brings. Do you experience this, and if so what areas and why?
A call to Holiness is about being set apart for God, living and life undivided. What changes are you going to make. Pray for one another (this may be a good time for confession, repentance and dedication to God).
When we talk about the burdens we carry, we often think about those external circumstances which weigh us down such as financial worries or concerns over loved ones. But when Jesus offers to take these and ‘give us rest’ he isn’t just talking about external types, he is also inviting us to lay down those internal burdens we carry.
Looking at Chapter 9 of ‘Pursuit of God’ by A.W Tozer, we look at Matthew 11 and unpack what these internal burdens are and how we can give them to Jesus.

For Connect Groups using your talk, what 3 questions would you want them to discuss?”
When you think of faith, what do you think of? We often think of what faith enables; whether healing, moving in the promises of God or victory over something. But do we ever stop to think about the essence and source of our faith? As we continue in our ‘Pursuit’ series, looking at the book ‘The Pursuit of God’ by A.W Tozer, we arrive at Chapter 7 where Tozer unpacks his statement ‘'Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.'Bible references:📖 - Numbers 21:4-9📖 - John 3:14-15📖 - Psalm 123:1-2••
For Connect Groups using your talk, what 3 questions would you want them to discuss?”
When you think of faith, what do you think of?
Mark looked at Tozer’s statement ‘'Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.’ with the connection of the Old Testament ‘looking’ and New Testament ‘believing’. Read Numbers 21:4-9, John 3:14-15, Psalm 123:1-2 and Matthew 14:19 and unpack this together – looking at this connection and what it means for you today. Does this give you a new way to look at the essence of faith and if so, what do you feel challenged to do differently in your walk with God?
How important has faith been to you in your life. Give some examples/testimonies.
God is always speaking!! The rhema is the instant spoken word and is how Jesus is revealed to us. The true church is built on the revelation of Jesus. As we walk with Him, we find and release our true voice and WE become the voice of God in the earth.
Did you know that God is present everywhere? And yet there is a difference between the Universal Presence of God and the Manifest Presence of God. As we continue in our Pursuit Series, based on the book ‘The Pursuit of God’ by A.W Tozer, we look at what it means to experience the manifest presence of God in our lives.
What does it mean to encounter God? Is it even possible to do so? As we continue looking at 'The Pursuit of God' by A W Tozer we come to chapter 4 and 'Apprehending God'
As we continue looking at AW Tozer’s book, ‘The Pursuit of God’ we unpack chapter 3 together and see that whilst God has removed the veil from the temple, allowing us access to His very presence, we often don’t do so because of the veil over our hearts.
Whilst we know we are called to Pursue God in all circumstances, how can we when life sucks and we don’t feel like we can. Looking at the place of Lament, Mark unpacks Psalm 13 and looks at a biblical response to pain and sorrow.
In our pursuit of God, He leads us to moments of surrender to everything else. The question is, are we willing? As we continue our talk series, Pursuit, based on AW Tozer’s book ‘ The Pursuit of God’, we look at chapter 2 ‘The Blessedness of Possessing nothing’ and the challenge which it brings.

Discuss what spoke to you about this week’s sermon. Spend some time praying for one another and contemplating the following:
Are you more like the younger brother? How? Or maybe God is challenging you on the elder bother..
Are there people you find hard to forgive? Do you think others are more underserving than you of God's love and compassion? Maybe you are stuck in outward appearances of self-righteousness, religiosity and more concerned with what others think of you than what is going on inside of you?
What is God speaking to you about becoming like the father? Highlight one area you want to take to God. What Spiritual practices or disciplines can you engage in to deepen your formation.

The 7 key principles of Dangerous Faith are exactly the same for all of us but are expressed differently and uniquely. The disciple Jesus loved, John, is the inspiration for my talk through his Gospel, his letters and the Book of Revelation:
Let us LOVE unconditionally with God's love, LIVE in oneness with Him, (abiding in intimacy of relationship), express His overflowing JOY, and SPEAK His words as John did.
This is Dangerous Faith in action!
We're excited to welcome John Coles this Sunday as part of our Dangerous Faith Series. John was the leader of New Wine from 2001 - 2014 and oversaw the development of New Wine from a summer conference to a network of leaders and churches throughout the UK.
He continues to be involved in teaching and training church leaders both here and abroad. Previously he and his wife, Anne led St Barnabas Church in North London, stewarding a work of the Holy Spirit which transformed the small and sleepy congregation into a large and vibrant Bible based, charismatic & multinational church with a vision for community transformation and church planting.
Have you ever discounted yourself or lived under lies that have prevented you from living courageously for God? Then like Deborah, lets ask God to awaken us to the call he has on our lives.
Bible verses
📖 - Judges 4
There is a difference between a saving faith in Jesus and an everyday dangerous walk of faith. Looking at Hebrews 11 and some of the heroes of faith we see what it takes to walk this dangerous faith. Are you ready?
Bible verses
📖 - Hebrews 11
The kind of faith which promises riches and rewards without cost and sacrifice is not the kind of faith we see in the Bible. Yet this is the very kind of faith which many promote and which many turn to. As we look at the life of Jesus, and his very own words, we see that we are called to count the cost if we seek to walk in dangerous faith and bring our worship to Him.

Who knows that being in the middle of something is the most difficult place to be? At beginning of something you have hope, at the end, you have the answer, but in the middle is where you’re most alone. But the middle is also where God does his best work.
Mark Helvadjian
During the past 18 months, we have seen certain aspects of society shift from what they once were, with many having a negative impact on our lives and others. So what should our response be as God’s Church and how is God calling His people to respond at this time?
As we continue in our series, Stand Strong, we look at the Helmet of Salvation and how it has been designed to protect our minds in the midst of the battle. Rather than being a one-time event, we see that we have our part to play in putting on the helmet daily.

What do you hope for? Is it based on wishful thinking or an absolute certainty? As we continue in our series looking at the Armour of God, we unpack together the Shield of Faith and see that in order to stand strong, we need a hope based on the assurance of God’s word.
How do we stand strong in the Gospel of peace? Denise reinforces that our strength comes from God alone and how the gospel of peace is our deliverance and the destruction of the enemy.
How is your heart? In need of protection? As we continue our Stand Strong talk series looking at the Armor of God, we arrive at verse 14b and the Breastplate of Righteousness. Seeing how it is designed to protect our hearts, we look at why our hearts need protecting and how the breastplate of righteousness does this in our lives.
What is ‘Truth’ to you? Is it an absolute, something that doesn’t change, or is it relative, something that can be different for different people? As we look at the second part of the Belt of Truth in the armour of God, we see that the truth of who God is, and who we are in Him, isn’t defined by us, but rather by God himself. Mark then does a fact check on some common deviations from God’s truth.
As we continue our talk series ‘Stand Strong’, looking at how we put on the full armour of God, we discuss the first item in the armour, the Belt of Truth and ask the questions, Why a belt and what truth?
Imagine if you could wear a special armor which enabled you to stand strong in the face of opposition. Would you wear it? As we start a new talk series, Stand Strong, we look at the armor which God provides for each of us and how we can use it to stand strong.
As we continue looking at our purpose in a ‘Christ-First’ world, we realise that our purpose is more than ‘doing’, that our ultimate purpose is about our response to what Christ has done for us. Looking at Romans 12:1, we see that while Jesus offered himself as a sacrifice for our sins, we are called to offer ourselves as a sacrifice of praise.
Which world do you live in? Do you live in a ‘Me-First’ world or a ‘Christ-First’ world? Understanding and answering this question will determine how we fulfil the purposes God has for us. Looking at John 12:20-27 and Jesus’ own words, this first part of a two-part talk challenges us to assess which world we truly live in and what our purpose should be.
God promises to provide for all our needs and yet we find that often we look to others before Him. Why is this? Mark looks at 5 common blocks we experience when it comes to God’s promise of provision and gives us some practical ways in which we can rightly respond.
In a time where being protected from the virus is top of mind for us all, we recognise that our hearts and minds are also in need of protecting. As we look at the Bible, we see that not only is the Lord our protection in these current difficult times but that we are also protected for all eternity.
Do you long for a type of peace which isn’t based on the ever-changing circumstances around you? A peace which is sure and certain. In this new mini talk series, Mark encourages us to seek Jesus First, and that as we do, we realise that Jesus offers each of us a peace which is not of this world
Denise unpacks John 15:5 and emphasises that in order to bear fruit, the only thing required from us is to to completely rely on Jesus. One of the ways we abide in Jesus is through prayer and Denise shows us how we can develop our prayer life with Him.
As we head into Christmas, the biggest challenge we face in abiding is the danger of busyness. But have we ever asked ourselves, why do we get busy? In this thought-provoking talk, Mark compares the story of Mary and Martha and our tendency to hide. Contrasted to the story of Mary, Jesus' mother, and her response to the Lord.
In this talk, Chris Lane reflects on the amazing privilege we in walking with the Holy Spirit - one of the benefits in "Abiding in Christ."
Where do you get your truth from? In a world of fake news and contested social media soundbites, it has become increasingly difficult to work out the fact from the fiction. As we start a new series, we look at how we can abide in Jesus, weathering the heat of the day and bearing fruit as we seek to be a blessing to others.
As Mark wraps up the series, we focus on the Hero of His Story – Jesus. Unpacking Colossians 1:15-20, we see that all things have been created through Him, For Him and is sustained By Him, and that as we fix our eyes on Jesus, our living hope, we can weather the storms which we are going through.
As we come to the last of our talks in the series, we look at the final end-time event which we find in Revelation 21 and 22 and the start of a glorious new beginning; a new Heaven and New Earth.
Jesus will come again, and when He does, He will come in glory for all the world to see. As we continue in our series, we compare Jesus’ first coming with His second, but we also invite Jesus to come into our world now as we make space to welcome Him in a time of extended worship.

Encouraging the church to dream big to see the Kingdom of God come. Encouraging them to partner with God, expectant that He will come through on His promises- whichever they may be. To always be on the look out for opportunities to bless.
The early church had unstoppable zeal to spread the Good News of Jesus because they’d experienced personally that God’s love is unstoppable. They knew that nothing is impossible with God! God’s purpose and plans for us are unstoppable – and everyone gets to play. God’s presence and power are unstoppable – He leads and guides as we worship, fast and pray.
This week we look at Acts 12 and Peter’s miraculous escape from prison. How was this possible? We find the answer in one little verse – verse 5 – the church prayed! What can we learn from this today and who has God placed in your life that needs your prayers?

Do you ever find yourself tired? Anxious? Run ragged by the 'breakneck pace' of life? We live in an age of advanced technology, empowering us to stay more connected, do less manual labour and enjoy a wealth of leisure time that past generations could only dream of. But if we've never had it so good, why do we all feel so wrecked? As we introduce the second part of our Encounter talk series, we consider spiritual practices that we can easily adopt every day to enable us encounter Jesus, wherever we are. Rather than accepting a one-off invitation to 'experience God', we want to accept Jesus' continuous invitation to encounter Him every single day in a new and fresh way.
When we encounter Jesus, it is always an invitation for more. As we look at the story of Jesus calling His first disciples, we learn practical kingdom insights about moving out into our calling. But more than that, we also see that, just like the fisherman, we have a choice as to whether we stay with our nets full of fish or go deeper and follow Jesus.
Denise reminds us of the importance of personal connection with Jesus and that He wants us to come just as we are.
We all have those moments where the heat of the day gets too much, and we take shade under our fig tree of choice. Rushing headlong into 2020? Determined to keep your New Year resolutions? After Christmas we tend to charge into the New Year all set to accomplish our new ‘to do’ list. In Mark’s talk, he offers us five good reasons to adopt the ‘attitude of gratitude’, and challenges us to introduce a permanent rhythm of thanksgiving into our lives.
Isn’t Christmas supposed to be more than a story? Isn’t Christmas supposed to tell us our lives will never be the same again. Christmas is supposed to mean something of universal importance has happened. But what? Richard dives into the end of this series to find out.
We come to the part of the Christmas story telling us about the arrival of our Saviour Jesus. But unlike the momentous arrival of Hollywood superheroes, His arrival is a remarkably unremarkable affair, born out of sight in a overlooked manger. As we read on into the story of His birth, we see Jesus came to bring peace to all mankind; visiting them as three key groups: the insiders, the outsiders and those who are distant.
As we continue to look at the arrival of Jesus this Christmas season, we come to Part 3 of our story, the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. We learn that the fulfilment of God’s plans and purposes always require us to go, and that Mary and Joseph’s journey uncovers 3 characteristics which are still relevant for us today.
In this talk our Founding Pastor, Chris Lane, takes up the title “First Contact” and encourages us to believe that God is always reaching out to us. He concludes by asking the question “Where are you?”
Long before Marvel stories about superheroes saving the planet, and sci-fi movies with visitors from outer space, there was the story of Jesus coming to planet earth to save the human race. Although unlike a tale of Hollywood, this is not science fiction.
As we look at the story of Christmas and His ARRIVAL, we see that He came in peace, bringing His light to break into our darkness, and in so doing, setting in motion the most amazing adventure story ever told.
Following the GIFT series we take time to listen to how Jesus has revealed himself through the testimonies of our church family. In this short talk, Richard looks at how testimonies tell us who God is and what he will do again.
Mark brings our series to a close by repeating the question he poised at the start, ‘What gift has God put in your hand?’. Looking at the story of Moses and the burning bush, we learn 5 truths that set us on a path to responding to His call and in so doing, being a gift to others.
Continuing our Gift series, Mark focuses this week on another team who serve so faithfully, the Trustees. We take some time to talk to outgoing Trustee Mark Bevis and our Chairman Tim Winfield, and we also welcome our newly appointed Trustees, Andrea-Taylor Cummings, Bruce McKinnon and Ruth Robb.

Continuing on from the ‘Gift’ series we focus on the Sunday teams. Denise also looks at what we give out to others often reflects what we have received.
Kicking off a new 6-part series, Mark asks the question, ‘What’s in your hands?’ God has placed various ‘gifts of grace’ in the hands of each and every one of us in order that we can serve. How we respond to this opportunity determines whether we in turn become a gift to others.

Concluding our mini talk-series, Treasure, we look at Jesus’ command to store up treasures in Heaven, asking the question, what does this look like? Rather than a transaction devoid of relationship, we see how our giving positions reveal our heart for God and signal our devotion to Him. And in response, He reveals His heart to us through His blessings.
In this mini two-part series, Mark asks the question, 'Where is your treasure?'. As we look at the words of Jesus in Matthew 6:20-21, we discover that where are treasure is, our heart is also. As Jesus challenges us that we cannot serve both money and God, Mark looks at 4 indicators of serving money.

The life, death and resurrection of Jesus revealed the perfect fulfilment of ‘Jehovah Saves’, the true meaning of Jeshua.
Elohim is the very first name we see God referred to by in the Bible, it highlights God as mighty and powerful. Denise looks at where God is referred to by this name throughout the Bible and what it means for how we can approach Him in our own times of need.

Fear and faith can feel like competing forces, where faith is the assurance of what God has promised and fear the lie that God cannot be trusted. How can we walk with Faith-Filled Vision when there seem to be so many obstacles in our path?

Humility of heart is essential as we position ourselves before God. Humility serves to magnify our view of God, our complete dependence on Him, His absolute truth and His unending love. Jesus not only modelled this for us, but also provided the way.

After remembering what God has done through us and for us in the recent past, Chris Lane officially launches The Final Phase of our Growing Family Campaign!
Our Senior Pastor, Chris Lane, celebrates God’s faithfulness to us in the past; and because of this, joyfully anticipates His faithfulness in the future
Chris Lane poses us with the question “Who’s leading who?” Who or what has influence over you? Chris encourages us to be intentional about developing our influence and leadership skills, and to choose our mentors carefully, so that we can become increasingly effective in stewarding the Kingdom of God.
We are delighted to welcome Ruth Robb, Director of the local charity Azalea, as our esteemed guest speaker. Azalea is primarily a prayer movement actioning God's unconditional love to all involved in sexual exploitation, both locally and globally. This Sunday Ruth explores the truth that every single person matters to God and can access His love and grace.
John Wimber, who founded the Vineyard movement, was well known for saying 'everyone gets to play' in God's kingdom. In this talk Richard unpacks how this relates to becoming the Royal Priesthood that the Bible talks about, and how to test whether a calling is from God or not.
This week Louis reminds us that it's not only our homes that often require repair and renovation, but also areas of our lives. He poses the question, are there any areas of our lives that require renovation, and if so, how do we approach these?
Dennis looks at the three temptations that Jesus faced at the beginning of his ministry. He emphasises that Jesus' sense of worth did not come from his performance, popularity or possessions but was deeply rooted in the unconditional love, affirmation, affection, attention and advocacy of His heavenly Father.
We are delighted to welcome S.T.E.P. Director Chris Birch-Evans this week, who gives an inspiring talk about how we measure our worth.
We're delighted to welcome our guest speaker, David Rigby, to bring us a timely message.
In part three of this series, Chris Lane dives into the strange, the bizarre and the wonderful world of Ezekiel. Is God trying to tell us something?
Dennis focuses on how Jesus is described in the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation -- as the 'Son of Man' -- demonstrating from the scriptures how Jesus rules in human affairs.
In the opening talk of this new series, Chris Lane encourages us to tackle some of the more mysterious, prophetic passages of scripture. His hope is that as we do, we will have a greater revelation of the awesome reality and sovereignty of God.
Our Youth & Kids Pastor, Kev Nash, takes the stage this Sunday to tell us about Josiah who was made King of Israel at just 8 years old. He challenges us to think of how young people can impact the Kingdom of God
If you have received a measure of God's love, grace and mercy, then you have responsibility to be a conduit of that same of love, grace and mercy to others. Dennis discusses how we can be good stewards of these qualities to others and challenges us to make ourselves available to be used by God in this way.
How emotionally mature we are will determine how we handle conflict. In this talk Dennis considers how we can deal with our conflicts as emotionally healthy sons and daughters who have 'come of age'.
What do we need to become 'one flesh'? How do we experience and demonstrate the communion of the Trinity in our marriage? Dennis discusses our need for a framework of love and obligation, the need for the power of the cross to engage with our natural self-centeredness and heal our brokenness, and the need to receive help from the Holy Spirit.
Kev takes a look at the well-known parable, the Prodigal Son. Kev leads us to see how when we return to God, regardless of our circumstances or what we have done, our Father welcomes us. There is total forgiveness from Him, and he He finds us 'good enough' to be treated as His son or daughter.
In the relaunch of our popular Jesus Stories series, Mark brings us a fresh insight into Jesus' first parable of the Sower. We usually view this parable through the lens of salvation, but Mark presses us to reconsider Jesus' message in light of words that God is speaking to us at this present moment, and how receptive we are to these.
Stewardship is being given the responsibility to manage and protect something that belongs to someone else. In this year when we 'come of age', Chris Lane takes us through how the church gathers and stewards its money, and asks us, what is our privilege and responsibility is in this area of financial stewardship?
If God is saying we are to 'come of age' this year, how does that affect our understanding and practice of one of the church's foundations - prayer?
As we move into 2017, Senior Pastor Chris Lane talks about what he believes God is saying to us this year: that we as a church community are 'coming of age'. This is a time where we are maturing from a child into an adult, impacting our collective identity, the way we respond to others and the kind of responsibility that Jesus gives us.
Dennis encourages us at the start of 2017 that whatever dreams, words, aspirations and goals that we have that we have received from God, we should get ready! As the scripture says, no eye has seen, no ear has heard or entered into the heart of man what God is preparing to do with us in 2017. The plans God has for us are bigger than we think and better than we think.
In the concluding of our “Visitors” series, Chris Lane celebrates the fact that while visitors come and go, God remains with us.
Kev Nash takes a fresh look at the Christmas story and considers what impact an angelic visitation had on the surrounding community. The nearby agricultural industry received a once-in-a-lifetime visitation that resulted in worship to God, but also made the Good News of Jesus' birth spread like wildfire.
As we begin our 2016 Christmas talk series, Chris Lane considers the need to be ready for anything at Christmas!
As we near the end of 2016, Chris culminates our current series. Watch this space next year for The Jesus Stories to be revisited.
Mark takes the well-known story of Jesus turning water into wine at his friend's wedding party, and turns it on its head. Jesus doesn't appear to be too interested in making a name for himself, but rather, making his friend look good because he loved him. A thought provoking look at this first miracle, Mark challenges us to think about whether we really believe that Jesus cares about every area of our lives?
Chris Lane begins a brand new series this autumn where we focus on the gospels. Stories told about Jesus, of Him and by Him - it's going to be a packed series! Chris starts at the beginning of Luke's gospel and addresses how the evangelist established Jesus as Lord over evil.
In this talk Dennis leads us to give thanks for all that God has done by giving us a new building! He looks at how King David gave thanks to God, recognising His sovereignty in every area of his life. He confesses the realisation that it all comes from God, "we have given only that which comes from His hand."
After 30 months of running our Growing Family Campaign, we are in full celebration mode this weekend as we officially open our new building! We are delighted to welcome National Directors of VCUKI John & Debby Wright as our special guest speakers to celebrate with us and commemorate this special occasion.
Chris Lane talks about the challenges and rewards of leadership, and explains how the annual Global Leadership Summit has helped many leaders, with some personal examples. You can watch the two videos Chris refers to on YouTube (Joseph Grenny's 'Crucial Conversations' and Tim Keller's 'Leading People to the Prodigal God').
We've heard it said that 'failure is not an option'. In a world that finds it easy to criticise and blame, this talk proposes that rather than resent people for their weaknesses or mistakes, we should accept them as a necessity to learn from, in order to succeed in the future.
Hear from the Vineyard team that travelled to India last month to serve at Bethesda Orphanages. These ordinary people talk about their experiences as they stepped out in faith. Aware of their own limitations, they describe how they put their trust in God to provide, and the healings, miracles & transformation they saw as a result. Not a podcast to be missed!
In this talk Chris Lane considers what success looks like in the Kingdom of God, and encourages us to be alert, available & faithful.
This week Louis reminds us that Life is like a race and that we have been equipped and trained to run it well. Louis causes us to reflect and determine whether we have a mentality to 'run to win' or to 'run not to lose', and encourages us to strive to live a life of faith and purpose, a life where we run to win.
In this, the concluding talk of our EMPOWERED series, Chris draws on the story of David, Abigail & Nabal; he encourages us to believe that the power of God’s grace is available to us today, whoever we are and however we have lived.
Chris Lane picks up part three of this series. He asks us the question, “what can we do, to live the life that God has for us?”
Chris Lane picks up part three of this series. He asks us the question, “what can we do, to live the life that God has for us?”
In this talk Chris Lane puts forward the suggestion that everyone leaves a legacy of some kind or another. He then offers three pointers as to the kind of legacy we might want to leave.
Using Boaz and Ruth's relationship as a template, we see how fathers are enabled to provide and protect their families, and how God as the ultimate heavenly Father is kind, affirming and inclusive. Dennis draws our attention to Boaz’s small acts of private integrity that impacted future generations, and how Boaz demonstrates benevolent strength in action.
In this epilogue talk, Chris Lane asks the question “And?". What are going to be our next steps following on from everything we've learned through The Difference series?
In our final talk of the series, Mark addresses why we should pursue holiness. Well first of all, God invites us to it! Holiness is the spectacular mission and end for which Jesus came into the world, and pursuing holiness is an outworking of our response to Jesus. Mark also asks, what does pursuing holiness involve, and what does it not involve? As we read the bible it becomes apparent that the only way we can become holy is, not through our own strength to abstain from this or that, or our independent ideas to 'clock up' good deeds, but it is by 'abiding' in Christ. That is, respond in agreement to Jesus call, word and instruction.
The call to holiness is a call to intimacy with a Holy God. Intimacy involves a challenge: to 'forsake all others' and turn away from everything that we use to ease our pain, to distract us, to give us perceived value in other peoples' opinions. All these things ultimately divert us away from intimacy with God; they are what the bible calls 'idols'. Dennis presents the way in which we have intimacy with God is through confession and repentance. God is calling us to turn away from every idol that we look to for comfort and turn towards His refuge and healing, allowing Him to perfect His beautiful image within us.
Mark brings The Blessing series to an end this week. Mark reminds us what the purpose of praise and thanksgiving is, and the power it has. Acknowledging God’s grace towards us and every good gift is from above, Mark encourages us to offer our praise to God so that The Blessing will flow.
In this talk Chris Lane invites us to re-consider the call to holiness. He proposes that it is not only a crucial part of God’s plan for us, but a major conduit of God’s blessing.
We continue The Blessing talk series that began last winter. This year we believe the Lord is promising an open heaven. Before we walk in the blessing, often delays will come our way. Mark walks us through just some reasons why God allow delays and setbacks, how God uses these, and asks us how do we respond to them?
There are many people that society labels as losers. Jesus was one of them, choosing to lose his life by dying on a cross. But that isn’t the full story. Jesus chose to lose his life so that we would trust in what he accomplished through the cross, and not what we ourselves have accomplished through our lives. We begin to see with God’s eyes, that we are being called to become winners through of Jesus becoming a loser.
In the run up to Easter, Chris Lane considers what makes a winner or a loser in God’s eyes. Jesus said that we didn't win the prize to become God’s people, but that He had already chosen us. So if God has already chosen us, what is He looking for? Being a winner isn’t about the amount of service we provide God, but comes down to whether we truly understand the nature of our relationship with Him. God is the only winner, and it is only when we admit that we are a loser that we can allow God to make us a winner.
Chris Lane puts everything we're trying to do through our Growing Family in the context of God’s vision for the city. First of a three part series.
At the beginning of 2016 we pause to reflect and celebrate the home that God is building at Vineyard. God is using all of us in whatever capacity we have to build his church. We take a day to value, esteem and show our gratitude to everyone who’s chosen to sacrificially serve on Sundays.
In this, the second of our New Year series “Open”, Chris Lane encourages us to expect great things from God and to attempt great things for God!
The Jordon River posed as a great obstacle to the Israelites in their quest to obtain God’s promised land for them. Louie identifies some of the more common everyday Jordon’s we face today, and discusses how we can cross over these to inherit the promises that God has in store for us in 2016. In light that nothing is impossible for God and that He is for you, are you really going to bow down to the obstacles (Jordon’s) in your life that currently discourage you from entering Gods best for your life ?
Why should we have great joy? Because in Jesus we have a saviour, a protector, a provider, one who sets addicts free, heals the broken hearted and comforts all who are grieving. He is the Master over every situation we will ever face. Will you make Lord and Master today and experience this fullness of joy?
Chris brings our Christmas talk series to a close this week, reflecting on hope as a supernatural gift that is eternal and indestructible. Hope in God is the language of promise. Hope that God gives is able to wash away disappointment and cleanse us from despondency. We pray as you listen to this Christmas talk you receive that gift of hope.
How does hope breed generosity? Jesus has given us a hope that is steadfast and certain; how does this hope affect our choices and actions? Dennis discusses how we respond by offering the best treasure we have: to regard and offer our time, energy and money as an act of worship. What will you bring him?
In the second of our Christmas talk series, Wendy takes two pivotal characters in the Christmas story: Zechariah and Mary, and looks at how their differing hopes in God leads them to completely opposite reactions. When our hope is in God and we believe in his promises, hope will undoubtedly lead to thanksgiving and a healthy gratitude.
As we bring the first part of our teaching on The Blessing to an end, Chris Lane reflects on the relationship between the blessing and God the Holy Spirit.
When living under God's blessing we can experience and know his peace and protection. Kev takes us through how God's blessing is activated by faith and imparted by words, and asks us, what do we need to know God's peace and protection in?
We're all called to lead a life of significance - but how? In this talk Mark looks at how God makes His abundant provision available to us, so that we can walk in our God-given potential and fulfil His purpose for our life.
To be blessed is a core desire for every human being. It’s astonishing how far we will go to get it. But it’s more astonishing how far God went to give us it to us. As people who've stepped into God's blessing through Jesus, Richard provokes us to ask ourselves, why have we been blessed? For what purpose?
An introduction to a Vineyard 'signature series'. Chris Lane encourages us to believe that God the Father’s promise of blessing upon the patriarch Abraham, has been passed on to us through our unity with Christ.
To come home is to reconnect with who we are. It’s where our roots are found, where we are known and make ourselves known; it should be a place of safety. Coming home to God therefore means we return to receive His light, life and love as we overcome our fears of rejection and shame. This week Dennis asks us what are the lies and fears we live under which need to be brought into God's light? As we step into this light, we experience God's love and affirmation for who we are - and not just for what we have done.
We finish The Land Between series on the same week that we host this year's Global Leadership Summit. Chris draws on some GLS15 stories about leaders who are emerging around the world; people who are leading forgiveness and reconciliation at a national level, and pointing people to Jesus. We hear from one of our own FEED team about how God is drawing people here to receive His love and care. This talk gives a great insight into what God is doing here and how Phase 2 is going to serve our Growing Family.
In this series Chris has talked about those challenges we face whilst in the ‘land between’. God’s blessings to us in this place include provision, protection and presence, but there is a greater blessing that God is working into our lives, and that is uniting us as ‘a people’, His people.
As we walk further into Phase 2 of our Growing Family, we discover that 'the land between' is in fact a fertile land, full of God's provision, protection and God's presence.
As we regather after the summer break, Chris Lane updates us on how far we’ve come and where we presently are in Phase 2 of our Growing Family Campaign. Make sure you watch the 3D walk through video on our website. Talk by Chris Lane on Sunday 20th September 2015.
Wendy looks at not one apostle but three! Three apostles with different characters and backgrounds but the same passion and dedication for following Jesus - and the same name: James. How can we see current victory in present trials? Give blessings instead of curses? Experience vital living instead of merely existing? As Wendy examines some key themes from the Bible's letter of James, she addresses how these can transform our lives for good.
We continue our Apostle talk series with, arguably the most famous of Jesus’ twelve disciples, Judas Iscariot. In this talk we look at how Judas’ expectation of Jesus’ purpose was in conflict with reality. Jesus’ intention and plan to bring the Kingdom of God into the world contrasted fundamentally with what Judas imagined it to be. As a result Judas attempted to control Jesus, which soon took a dark turn. Through Judas’ story, Richard challenges us to consider whether we currently have our own expectations of how God will and ‘should’ behave; and if we do, whether we are willing to let these go, trust in Jesus’ plans and follow him.
The apostle Paul was a man who, through faith and perseverance, learned to trust in God’s words and promises rather than the limited depths of his own understanding and reasoning. He was a great example of how we can be calm in the midst of a storm. So whatever storms we face – whether as individuals or as the community of God’s people – we can like Paul, experience peace in the middle of turmoil as we put our trust in God.
Jesus calls us to take risks and launch into the beautiful deep where our feet don't touch the ground! This is an exciting place to be - but also renders totally dependent on him. Our guest speaker this month, Simon Fordham, poses the question: are you willing to go deeper than you've ever been before?
This week Chris Lane look at the apostle John, who in his own gospel commonly refers to himself as 'the beloved disciple'. We learn a bit more about John and his relationship with Jesus as well as the other disciples. As we do, we begin to understand that John's desire to follow Jesus was free from ulterior or ambiguous motives; and this experienced freedom impacted his capacity to believe and receive Jesus’ love and acceptance.
Chris Lane encourages us to attend this year’s Global Leadership Summit, hosted by the St Albans Vineyard on Fri 9th & Sat 10th October. He encourages us to use the summit as an opportunity and tool to consider the state of our heart and identify how we view God and ourselves.
When we begin to experience Christ's love, forgiveness and tenderness in a deeper way, we are empowered to reach out to everyone who is seeking and searching for Jesus.
In the second of our CENTRE series, Louie explores the subject of faith. He invites us to identify those things that stop us from placing Christ at the very centre of our faith, and in doing so, challenges us to keep Christ at the centre of who we are and all that we do.
Mark introduces our four part series, Centre. As we ‘press on and press in’ during the ‘Phase 2’ season of our growing family, Mark looks at what it looks like for us to put Christ at the centre of our lives.
Following on from last week’s launch of the Growing Family Campaign's PHASE 2, Chris Lane reiterates the vision, enthuses over the architect’s plans and encourages us to do as commanded in 2 Corinthians 8:11, to "now finish the work"!
Today we launch PHASE 2 of our Growing Family Campaign! Last year we responded to what we believe was God’s call for us to make room for his Growing Family; we stepped out in faith and gave towards something we couldn’t yet see. And true to His word, God has not left us looking foolish or empty handed - but we are now the proud owners of a huge 16,339 square foot warehouse! The challenge we face today is that we need to provide enough money to build the entire interior structure for our empty warehouse. PHASE 2 will enable us to make our currently bare building functional - so that everything we’ve been praying for and working towards can be fulfilled. So, what will this look like - exactly? Hear Chris Lane cast the vision and outline what we’ll be doing in this next phase.
In our second talk in the FIRST series, Dennis highlights six ways that giving to the 'Kingdom of God' releases God's blessing into our lives and eternity.
Many of us have heard the First Commandment: To love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. Chris Lane explores what this looks when it's being worked out practically in our day to day lives, and in particular how following it will impact the way we steward our resources.
Chris Lane concludes our two part Easter series by asking the simple question, who do you love?
In this Easter talk, Chris Lane reflects on the timeless truths and impact of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.
We conclude our Making Prayer Count series this week by taking a bird’s eye view and looking at God’s unified purpose in prayer. What does God want to show us through prayer? How do all the diverse prayers offered from different people across the world work together, and to what end? Mark addresses these questions and proposes that the way we pray is determined by how we understand this united purpose in prayer.
How do we respond in those times when it feels like our prayers aren't being, and aren't going to be, answered? When we’ve prayed every prayer we can think of and the only thing left to pray is "when Lord?" In this talk, Mark Helvadjian takes Jesus' parable of the persistent widow and draws five key principles which place the importance of persistence within prayer. Mark also determines how we can be confident, through Jesus, that our prayers are heard and are counted by God.
In the second of our Making Prayer Count series, Dennis describes how the outworking of faith not only gets us to our destination but actually changes our character to prepare us to receive the promise that God is giving us. Dennis takes a look at the biblical character Abraham and how he was able to pray with expectation.
Following on from our last talk series on integrity, and in the run up to Easter, we launch a new series on prayer. This week Chris Lane takes us beyond the daily lists of things that we often pray for, and into that space where the Holy Spirit Himself prompts and leads us to pray about something in particular - what the old timers called a 'prayer burden'.
An inspiring talk by our Youth & Kids Pastor Kev Nash, about why Vineyard invests into young people and what youth work looks like here. After hearing about the impact that youth work makes, we think you may want to get involved!
Have you heard, we've bought a building!!! This week we talk about how we’re planning to use this building to develop our Feed food bank. As well as talking about what we're doing, we also remind ourselves why we're doing it. And within that, we rediscover God’s great passion for the poor, and how we can share this.
“Perseverance produces character and character produces hope.” In the conclusion to this short series on integrity, Chris Lane offers some helpful pointers on building character – God’s way.
Having considered the importance of keeping our word last week, we reflect upon the importance of how we handle money. Our perspective on money is a window into the state of our soul; the way we regard and use money reflects our fundamental values and priorities.
In this talk Chris Lane explores one of the essential elements of integrity - the need to keep our word. In doing so he addresses the necessity for us to face those challenges arising in our personal lives, encouraging us to embrace and meet these head on - so that we might develop Godlike character.
Incredible news – this week we exchanged on the building next door!!!! Chris Lane gives a full update us on the great news, and talks about how we will be moving forward from here.
A Sunday dedicated to the amazing volunteers at Vineyard! There are so many people here who faithfully serve the Lord and play such an important part in building this church community. We were delighted to take some time at the beginning of the year to thank them, honour them and show how much they are appreciated.
As we enter the New Year, it's important we reflect on what God has done for us throughout 2014. But we will do well to remind ourselves that as we start 2015, the plans God has for us are greater and mightier then we can imagine. This can be the year that we begin to fulfil our potential. What are some of the keys that will unlock the door to us seeing God doing great and mighty things - things that we have not yet seen? Dennis uses the book of Jeremiah as a backdrop to today's message.
Louis brings us a new perspective on what success is and how it's 'released' into our lives.
Chris Lane brings our festive series to its conclusion this week. He walks us through the wonderful story of Christmas - describing how God is inviting us into a new beginning with Him. God's character and nature to give is shown through his willingness to give his son Jesus to us. On the Sunday before Christmas we take time to reflect that God truly does wonderful things.
The Bible tells us that the first Christmas was when the 'Word became flesh and dwelt among us". In this session Dennis considers different aspects of the "Word" Jesus, including His titles Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace. We see how Jesus is the exact representation of God.
In a world where temptation is all around us, we find the power to overcome is not in our own strength, but as we confess and surrender to Christ we invite His victory to become our victory.
We were delighted to welcome Lukas Targosz to speak at both morning services this Sunday. Lukas runs Element Church in the Czech Republic. Element run the X-LARGE teen camp that a Vineyard team visited this summer. Lukas is a well respected author and leadership coach, and brought us a message about service in God's kingdom.
The Bible tells us that without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Dennis walks us through some common issues that undermine our ability to truly believe that God is good, and therefore to trust Him with our lives. It is only when faith (spelt ‘RISK’) is at work that we can begin to step into the freedom and life that He’s prepared for us.
Chris Lane brings the Becoming talk series to a resounding conclusion! He encourages us to regard Connect Groups as the place to learn how to put love into action. They're a place where we learn to love God, each other and the world for which Christ died - and in which we are called to serve.
As we dive deeper into the Becoming Series, we look at God’s call on our lives and how He has gifted us for our destiny, individually and collectively. What is it? How do you discover it? And most importantly, how do you walk in it?
Chris Lane encourages us to see Connect Groups as a safe place. A place where we say 'Welcome Home!', a place where relationships are built and community is created. But above all it is a community with a purpose.
Today is the official launch of our new Connect Groups! These are the backbone of discipleship within the Vineyard. In this talk Richard looks how the call to discipleship is a call to enter the process of becoming what God planned long ago. What is it? How do we become it? And what does it mean for us as a church?
In this talk Chris Lane gives some practical guidelines as to how we can share our faith effectively.
Chris Lane encourages us to step out of our 'comfort zone' when it comes to sharing our faith in Jesus with others.
Chris concludes this year's Summer Talk series by beginning with a update on our Growing Family Campaign's current position. Chris addresses what we need to do in order to grow God's family - to share our faith in Jesus.
Wendy examines the amazing transformation God brings when we give Him our regrets, mistakes and failures and accept in exchange, His joy, freedom and peace. Wendy shares some of her own stories and experiences of this Divine interaction.
The 'harvest' that Jesus talked about is in the cities, towns and villages. It is the person you speak to at work or live next door to - it is where most of us spend our lives. In this talk Dennis challenges us to serve where we are and with what we have - to be available to God and be available to people because the fields are ready for harvest.
A prayer that God will enlarge our vision. A call to mission, life and ministry based on our identity and unity in Christ.
Chris Lane takes us through a prayer for God to enlarge our vision. It's a call to mission, life and service based on our identity together in Christ.
talk by Brett Gunning. This week's sermon looks at the unlikely hero of Joseph, the last in our series of Heroes.
Chris talks about life and the art of mechanics. This talk was given at the 1st Fathers day vineyard car show 2010.
