Stupid People and Rainbows
“I purposely timed my drive back from a day of running errands to avoid rush hour traffic. It was two pm and I was heading home on a rainy day. Traffic on the freeway was mild until the rain started to get heavier. I, along with most other drivers, appropriately slowed down to accommodate the road conditions. I was fine with that until I began to see that every two exits or so, traffic would almost completely stop. The first time this happened was because of a minor accident that made everyone feel a need to slow down and stare at the incident. A few exits later, traffic slowed down to a snail’s pace again because a cop had pulled someone over and apparently equally fascinating to most of the other drivers. This went on in one format or another during my entire drive home. I found myself becoming progressively irritated by the whole situation.There was either constant braking or dangerous speeding. Drivers were either overly cautious, or not cautious enough. The whole situation was excruciating. I began to wonder: why were people so stupid?...”

Tinfoil Covering The Baby Jesus
“I grew up in a large Catholic family where Christmas rituals were an important part of our holiday experience. Amidst the craziness of Santa Claus, Christmas shopping and stuffing our faces full of sugar through most of December, our family still celebrated “the true meaning of Christmas.” Like almost every child raised in a Christian home, we were taught the importance of remembering “the truth” about Christmas. But It’s Not Fair

Revenge of the Birds:
“I remember seeing the Alfred Hitchcock classic the Birds when I was about twelve. The scene where an unnerving amount of birds are flocking around one of the main characters in the background was truly ominous. In this scene Tippi Hedren is actually attacked by birds and it’s terrifying. A master of suspense the director brings up the scary possibility of nature actually turning against us while it was a brilliant idea and in all practically highly unlikely it still made us think about what could happen if we abuse nature and take it for granted. What if animals/nature turned against us?
We had a cat when I was around that age in addition to our usual full house of three dogs. He was an inside cat, but he spent a lot of time outside by choice. Our cat and dogs absolutely never fought each other like cats and dogs were supposed to do...”

Snake Oil BE AFRAID BE VERY, VERY, VERY AFRAID
“As I began to pull out of the parking space I normally park in at my condominium home, a young man in a van next to me motioned me to roll down my window. “I noticed that you sometimes leave your car windows partially open. You may want to be more cautious about doing this. My car was broken into last week, and they took my stereo.” I nodded a thanks for the warning gesture as I drove away. I remembered that the guy who parked on the other side of me had his car broken into weeks before. I felt a wave of panic run through me as I imagined my car being stolen and broken into. What if my car were to experience the same fate? Finances were already tight. What would I do if my insurance rates increased? I remembered the time ten years ago when my car was stolen, and I suddenly felt as if it were happening all over again. I began to feel afraid...”

You Want a Peace of Me?
“I only really caught the tail end of the peace decade. I was very young in the late sixties n early seventies when the peace, love, and understanding movement peaked. In spite of the turbulence from the Vietnam war, Nixon, and a host of other controversial things, there was something magical about some elements of the hippie movement and “free love.” I really didn’t fully understand or even felt much of a need to strive for peace. I had glimpses of seeing its value though. Snuggling up in a bed with two dogs as a child made me feel safe and peaceful. My friends on the block would sometimes get into fights (hell, sometimes I started them) but more often than not we would make up and come to a place of peace again. It felt noticeably better in the home when my siblings and my mother weren’t at odds with each other. Still, peace was a concept I didn’t fully understand or even recognize how truly valuable it could be.

It’s Getting Cold Out There?
“I was heading into my gym’s locker room when an in-shape, solid young man in a protective mask was exiting at the same time. The dramatic reaction he performed with wide scared eyes as he nearly collided with me and pulled back was humorous. He got too close to me for about three seconds and the likely bombardment in the last year and a half from medical experts about the need for proper Covid protocol responses like social distancing was probably why he reacted so theatrically. Even though in the US we seem to be thankfully over the hurdle of the worst aspects of this pandemic, many articles, news reports about variants still abound, “There could be more bad to come ahead” and “Don’t relax by any means,” and similar messages are still bombarding us. A fair amount of people, places and businesses are still wearing masks and maintaining some of the extremes of social distancing. In his and other similar peoples defense nobody really knows how to act at this point. What is safe and what isn’t? What is the right behavior and what isn’t?...But is social distancing actually a new theme...

While flipping the hundreds of channels available from cable television, I ran across an old episode of Little House on the Prairie. The two early teenage daughters, Mary and Laura plot a way to make extra money to buy their local Reverend a new Bible. They purchase mini vials of “remedies” for things like arthritis, headache, obesity, etc...Basically about twenty five of the most common ailments people could possibly be suffering from at that time and plan to up-sell them to people in the town. The cures turn out to be mostly alcohol based and standard snake oil formulas and the young entrepreneurs fail in their endeavor. The episode is chock full of moral and family lessons, and both positive and negative religious themes. It was a well written episode.
What struck me most was how small the list of medicine cures were that were even available at the time, in comparison to todays world where hundreds if not thousands of potential ailments and treatments exist. There just seems to be way more ailments to suffer from at this time. So back then did the current large list of illnesses and afflictions not exist at all or were they not yet discovered?...

Drowning Cat
“... I heard the sound of a crying cat. I got up and looked out my upstairs condominium balcony to see if I could spot the distressed animal. I wondered, should I go outside and try to save this poor little creature? If I could find the animal trapped by the rains, could I even get it to come to me? My cats would freak out if I brought another cat inside. I desperately wanted to help the poor little thing, but could do nothing. I felt powerless.
As the cat continued to moan and the rains poured down, I paced back and forth, wondering what I should do. It had been a tough week and many of my clients were experiencing difficult times. Just like powerful storms in nature, people seemed to go through cyclical personal storms and my clients were no exception. A slew of exhausted, overwhelmed friends and clients had left messages on my answering machine or by email. It seemed like everyone was feeling like a drowning cat. I did my best to comfort them during their sessions, yet I felt like I hadn't done enough. “The holiday season is here again. There never seemed to be a shortage of bees in the world during my childhood. From the abundance of honey bees, wasps, hornets, and those weird thick carpenter bees there seemed to be plenty. They were something to deal with, like it or not, when we played or hung out outside...

Ending the Wars
I hadn’t been on a Vegas vacation in almost four months. I was packed up and ready to make the five hour drive early on a Sunday morning. I was overpacked for this one without much of a choice in the matter. I had a cooler that I iced up with sliced veggies, fruits, yogurts, and probiotics. I had also packed an added bag with many different bottles of things like green food powder, apple cider vinegar, aloe vera juice, psyllium husk, epsom salt, an assortment of bottles of herbal pills, and healthy snacks. I had a list of acupuncture doctors in the area if needed, and my insurance card for a last resort potential need of my medical insurance. I felt overburdened by how much I needed to take with me for this trip. As a Sagittarius, we’re not exactly known for our overpacking tendencies. What was comical was once I made it to the hotel, parked in the garage, and then optimistically figured I could carry my water jug and three full bags of crap in one shot to my hotel room. It was heavy, cumbersome, and I needed to pause many times along the way. I alternated between laughing at my cartoonish trek and being pissed off about all of it. Was this actually my current life as well as the possibly of all my future vacations?

Pandemics of fear or waves of love?
“When I was about 32 (after only 4-5 years of working with clients in sessions) I talked to a 38 year old man by phone. He was smart, funny, kind and a talented creative gay man living in San Francisco. He was also HIV positive. Patrick was just out of an abusive relationship with an ex-boyfriend and also dealing with conflict, and cruelty that had been going on for years connected with his family. He was open to hearing this but he did not believe it yet and considering his background, it was no surprise that he felt this way...”

Losing Mom
I remember when I was in the fourth grade something significant occurred for the first time in my life. I dutifully sat in class with my fellow students all dressed in the same uniform in my elementary Catholic school. Each of us were uncomfortable with the lack of ability to express our individuality through clothing choices yet oddly comfortable at the same time because we didn’t have to make any actual choices. The Principle, a cartoon, cliche version of a cold disciplined nun sent for one of our fellow students and interrupted class one day. The young girl looked terrified like any of us would when called to the office. It wasn’t a look of fear that she had done something “bad.” It was a panic fear I had never seen before as she scurried out. Our teacher quickly suppressed the nervous chatter among the students as theories about why Katherine was being pulled out of class began to spread. A few days later I saw Katherine profusely weeping as she gathered her belongings and left school to attend her mother’s funeral..."

Taking It All Too Hard

Polishing Our Diamonds
“In my younger years I was mesmerized by looking at the moon, stars, and planets through a telescope and enjoyed books about the planets in our solar system. The different shapes, sizes, colors and how many moons they each had were fascinating. No planet in our solar system was more beautiful than Saturn though, with it’s icy rings. Years later when I began to study Astrology I learned what part of us Saturn represents. Saturn in our natal chart is the place where we explore caution, difficult lessons, struggle, doubt and fear. Getting Punched in a Box
“...When I was between the ages of nine and eleven my friends and I would often play dodge ball, volley ball, badminton, and other games in my friends backyard. We would often play her 45 records on her record player when she brought it outside. So many of those seventies songs when I hear them, trigger these and other memories. Songs like It’s a Miracle, or Mandy by Barry Manilow, The last Song by Edward Bear, or Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves by Cher still bring back happy nostalgia. We especially loved Dizzy by Tommy Roe and would sometimes play it and just spin around wildly until we were literally dizzy. In exhaustion, we would fall to the soothing grass and laugh. It was fun to push our bodies to their limits and the limberness and quick recovery of youth made this a far easier proposition than my middle aged body of today.
The childhood tests of building strength and feats of pushing our limits grew in size and complexity along with our bodies. We set up obstacle courses, jumped from rooftops, and did stunts on bicycles and skateboards, never questioning societies’ standards of what a boy or girl should or shouldn’t be doing...”

When in Deep Water
“...I was feverish and knew my body was trying to heal what was wrong, so I had very little appetite. The entire time I researched what trigger points would help with digestion and the organs in the area I was feeling pain. After 6 days of being sick, with three fairly excruciating painful nights, I went to urgent care to get checked out and also got a blood test. Energizer Bunny

Pigging Out
“I saw a video online of a baby in a high chair eating bacon for the very first time. He takes his first bite and looks up at his parents with the excitement of a new sensation and grateful tears in his eyes. He can’t believe how delicious this is. It is very cute and funny. While I don’t eat a lot of meat anymore I have never been able to fully let go and go full on vegetarian. I have no plans to at this time either. Like the baby in the video I love bacon and while I don’t eat it often I find it to be seriously yummy. In early February of 2019 we begin the year of the Pig in Chinese astrology. Taking the High Road
“ I had a lousy morning. A host of frustrating things started my day and made me regret getting out of bed in the first place. I got into my car to run errands and then headed to the gym like I did most weekdays however I felt quite irritated. As I dodged the usual stupidity on the road with people texting while driving, not using turn signals, and an assortment of other bad driver theatrics I made it to my first destination the bank drive through. I could see a man in a truck in the lane next to mine fighting with the teller about God knows what through his call box. Of course he pulled out just ahead of me and I was stuck behind his truck. I was trying to make a right turn but he lingered in front of me moving slowly between two lanes at the light that was about to change. There were three lanes of traffic getting ready to push through from the other direction when the light would change. I gave him a short, singular horn honk to suggest he make some type of move or at least allow me to get by. He finally made the right turn but I ended up still stuck behind him in the middle lane. My fury was building to epic proportions...”

“I had a funny random memory a few months ago about a Saturday morning seventies cartoon that I watched when I was a kid. The Saturday morning lineup was a very big thing back in those days. The show was called “The Groovy Ghoolies.” Dracula, Werewolf, Frankenstein, etc... were all in a band and had adventures and performed musical numbers. I recalled both watching the show and making fun of it. It was a stupid title and equally ridiculous premise. There was a lot to make fun of in this monstrosity and I made my friends laugh by pointing this out. I looked up when the cartoon originally ran. It was actually from 1971-1972. It’s “hard to believe” but it didn’t have a very long run before it was cancelled. That would have made me six or seven years old and I already had a wise ass sarcastic way of thinking and tongue to match it at such a really young age.
My cynical humor skills continued to sharpen as I grew up and I remember wanting to try a new cereal called “Grins, Smiles, Giggles, and Laughs.” It was a tasty sugary treat with a really, really stupid name and I made fun of that ridiculous name a lot...”

Todays Show: Time For a Change
"...It is understandable that many people struggle with change. Change can be scary, but whether we decide to see the change as “good” or “bad” it is a reality of this world. Pushing up against it just causes us pain and usually the changes will happen anyway. As much as I occasionally get sad when I think about the things that I loved and lost, I also feel a remarkably warm sense of privilege. I got to spend time with those people, my cat, and even my car. They are wonderful pieces of my life that I will fondly get to remember forever. Rather than focus on the loss, I feel blessed to have had them and I relish how they touched me. I wouldn’t trade any of it for a different past even if I could. As much as I might miss them they no longer fit into this current time. They were like pieces of a mosaic puzzle that no longer mesh into my world because they aren’t supposed to. They are no longer here for their own reasons and evolution - because I am different the world now is too..."

What Me Worry:
“... I have always been a believer that almost everything can be solved or resolved, if you are willing to study the subject and apply solutions. Even if it means finding an expert with more knowledge than you to help, most things can be resolved because solutions are the flip side of problems. They exist as a part of each other. Seeing things this way is one of the good aspects of my Virgo energy, combined with a bit of my Sun in Sagittarius optimism! My mission was to find a way to solve the habit of worry itself. I decided I would find a way to spend the second half of my life free of obsessive worry. Aside from the discomfort that we often feel emotionally, physically, and mentally from worry, it is also extremely negative in that it can act like a form of prayer. Cheating likelihood based on a zodiac sign
I have had a lot of added work for the last few months with a total (so far) of 7 appearances on the ABC syndicated show The List. The film shoots r actually fun and easy. Creating Vines
“... It dawned on me during this process that I had easily manifested this reality. My intention, combined with a desire for beauty, positive growth and abundance, helped make this happen. Crisis of Faith
“... We all go through periods of doubt, fear, and brief or even long depressions. Some people experience this more often than others, but no one is immune to times of confusion and feeling lost. “This spring of 2017 seemed to be one of the worst allergy seasons on record. Many of my friends who also have seasonal allergies complained of suffering far more than usual. I also talked to a lot of people who never really had major problems with sinus issues in the past but were bothered this year as well. As far back as I can remember I have always had them. Yet over the years, while they haven’t completely healed by any means they have decreased quite a bit. Burn Baby Burn
“... The other reason for the burn was of course metaphysical. When we struggle with an issue we first attempt to resolve it mentally than emotionally (sometimes in the reverse order depending on how we are wired). When we fail to solve it at either of these levels it will often become a physical issue. Because there are no accidents I had to wonder what inside of me drew this uncomfortable lesson to my physical body? It was clear that I was resisting trusting my feminine side and my ability to receive. I kept thinking I should take practical, forward steps to solve the issue. When we have problems on the left side of the body in any form they have to do with the past, the feminine, and receptivity. When we have problems on the right side of our body they have to do with the masculine, assertiveness and the future. Closer to the Heart
“One of my fondest memories of my early twenties was attending many different rock concerts. I saw amazing groups like Yes, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, The Fixx, and so many other notable bands. My friends and I would bring our concert paraphernalia and just hang out and listen to incredible live music with other fans. I have been blessed to have wonderful memories of many, many good times associated with music. One of my favorite bands was Rush. To this day, they still are making great music, although it has been about twenty eight years since I attended my last Rush concert. During every concert they always eventually sang one of their most profound and touching songs called “Closer To The Heart.” It was always the same pattern in every concert. When the first few chords of the song began everyone would stand up and quietly light their lighters and raise them in the air. Each individual flame creating a sea of light. It might sound silly if you have never experienced something like this, but it was always a powerful event and an emotional wave that lit up the room in a really touching way. There were no arguments or disagreements about what this song meant. Everyone there was connected, each in their own way and feeling the same universal hope of “building a new reality that was closer to the heart...”

“I received some unsettling news last month right before I left for a vacation. A now 59 year old friend and client I hadn’t spoken to in almost two years was discovered missing from a solo hiking trip in Sedona. The story was on the news and many friends contacted me to ask me if the missing person they were talking about was indeed my friend. They found her abandoned car and belongings at her campsite. The police searched for a few days and eventually found her at the bottom of a ravine. She had slipped and fallen to her death. Even before they found her I knew she was deceased. I wasn’t sure what had happened yet, but intuitively I knew she was no longer in this world...
...Even though her death made sense to me intuitively, I still felt the tragic sting of this loss. It hurts to lose a friend who is, or was part of your life..."

"...My fellow violators were raising their hands and asking questions. Their questions were not about traffic safety. They were all excruciatingly long, detailed reports of how each person should not have received a ticket in the first place. “A huge semi blocked my view of the cop who nailed me. How fair is that?” “I got pegged by a speed radar trap. what makes Arizona think that this is an acceptable way to make money?” “I was only going like two miles over the speed limit. You would think they would go after the real criminals!” The “poor me, life is unfair” tirade went on for hours.

Morning Has Broken
“...We live in a world of duality. To a large extent, this is one of the primary reasons we choose to spend a lifetime(s) in this world. It is easy to forget this reality when difficulties surface. When things are tough we can easily get pulled into “suffering over our own suffering.”* Behind opportunity is often challenge. When we are lucky, there will be times when we are very unlucky. “Good” and “bad” co-exist, but how we choose to view these experiences are ultimately subjective. While for the most part I am very healthy, I got hit with the flu in early February. I seem to get the flu about every 6-7 years. I guess it was “time,” but when it hit me like a tornado on a Saturday night it truly was horrible. He had confided in me that unless we suddenly got a lot busier or found some new financial backing he would have to close the restaurant permanently. He was understandably angry and frustrated by the situation and needed to let off some stream, so I kept my mouth shut while he complained; “The people in Phoenix don’t appreciate excellent, quality food. “I experienced an interesting phenomenon on my last drive back from Nevada. When I reached the intersection of the I-40 (Purple Heart Trail) and 93 south, something familiar began to line up internally. I could feel myself realigning, as if all the gear shifts that make up who I am were lining up perfectly. While it was happening it dawned on me immediately that on most of my drives (I do this drive 3-4 times a year and fly 2-3 times) through this area of about a 25 mile stretch, I often feel this familiar sensation. A combination of emotional memories about my childhood, twenties, and other periods of my life I had forgotten vividly emerge. They are mostly good memories, but even the difficult ones seemed charged in a way that feels right or like they were meant to be. I become acutely aware of patterns in my life and something clicks internally where everything in my life makes sense....”

I hired a realtor who was also a friend to help me. We spent three weekends looking at condominium homes. We would pick up our StarBucks and hop in her car to check out three to five places each Saturday. There were two homes that could have worked for me. The project would supposedly end with new sidewalks, two wider lanes and a third middle turning lane to help traffic flow better. They also planned on replacing sewer pipes and a few other upgrades as part of the reconstruction. I was all for the plan to improve the neighborhood, but the construction itself has been a series of tremendous roadblocks that have made the last year difficult for me as well as for my clients and friends to navigate around. Some aspects of my life seemed to be mirroring a similar theme. Destruction and reconstruction are very real themes that we experience physically in this world as well as emotionally and psychologically in our personal lives. Todays show: More and More Stuff: "I have never been interested in the “he who dies with the most toys wins” philosophy. I attribute this to being an “old soul.” Having lived many lifetimes, I think one begins to acquire wisdom and an ability to see how little value there is in obsessive acquisition. The more we strive to acquire things and get caught in the grips of greed, the more we will inevitably suffer. When taken to an extreme, competitiveness and voracity can be very unattractive. An obsessive need to have the best cars, largest house, designer shoes, and even the most elaborate parties (see if you can make it through an episode of the television show My Sweet Sixteen to know what I mean) carries a heavy price tag. When we get caught up with “keeping up with the Jones” we will probably eventually lose. Excessive striving is not uncommon for people who have some impatience embedded in their wiring. Impatience is one of seven fears (chief negative features*) Impatience centers around a fear of being victimized by time. We tend to get intolerant of the way others do, or don’t do things and we often get annoyed with ourselves as well! In numerology we often see this tendency in people who have the number 8 prominently in their charts. The inner voice pushes at us to feel guilty if we are not doing enough. It’s like having an internal lion tamer and whip as a motivator. It often originates from familial or cultural influences, but needs no outer prompt when we become an adult because it is now firmly imbedded inside. Yet, often excessive striving is not a good thing. Finding a good reader/psychic/healer is not always an easy task. In many respects it is not unlike finding an expert in any field. We can hire a contractor to do work on our home and get someone who does a lousy job. We might find a doctor or other healer who ends up doing more harm than good. We may get grossly overcharged from a car mechanic or any type of repair person. The list of potential unqualified people we can hire to do work for us, is often equal to the amazing people we may find in contrast. Thankfully in this modern age, there are websites that can help us choose more wisely by checking out other’s reviews.
