Patrons get 25 minutes extra Manchester United’s start to this season is confounding. Erik ten Hag’s Reds appear constantly on the edge of breakdown, and always close to defeat, too, and yet six points from the opening nine is a respectable beginning to any campaign. Old Trafford stood in shock as United conceded twice in four minutes against Nottingham Forest, but there remained a sense of confidence and defiance, and justified it proved for a 3-2 comeback victory followed. Further injuries have followed to deepen the sense of crisis in M16, but it’s an away trip this weekend, to Arsenal. Back to London, where our record has been so poor recently, for a huge challenge at the Emirates. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait preview Sunday's match at Arsenal in detail today, as well as looking back on the Forest fixture. They also play Guess the Player, give you your extensive youth round-up with a double-digit win for the U21s. Patrons will get a 25-minute bonus section on transfers, the Old Trafford atmosphere, Ten Hag’s tactics and loads more. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
One cloud has cleared. Mason Greenwood will not play for Manchester United again. Several more remain. On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss defeat in North London, Mason Greenwood and preview Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest. They play Guess the Player, give you your regular Academy briefing and answer questions like ‘has everyone reacted after two games of the season?’ ‘how do United move on from here?’ and ‘have referees set a dangerous precedent?’ In the Q&A, exclusive to our Patreons, the Reds talk about who’d win a Premier League 5-a-side tournament, what kind of work they're both up to at the moment and the three steps to make MUFC competitive. Who'll win the Premier League? Who will be Manchester United's most improved player? Who will become the fans' scapegoat? Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait give their predictions for these questions, and many, many more in the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. The two Reds preview Monday night's Old Trafford encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers, discussing the impact of a new manager for the Midlands club. They consider who should start up front and on the left-wing, and what they're expecting to see from the game. Then they talk the likely exit of former-captain Harry Maguire, who looks set to join West Ham for £30m, assessing his potential replacements in Jean-Claude Todibo and Benjamin Pavard. After giving all their season predictions, Harry announces the title of his first book: The Men Who Made Manchester United. Released on 25 September with Pitch Publishing, it brings you the definitive history of Manchester United before Sir Matt Busby's post-war halcyon days. Inside are tales that will make you squirm, laugh and cry: the transfer fee of two freezers of ice cream, the tragic death of a young footballer and his forgotten family, the fight for the right to unionise, Edwardian Cockney Reds and the pelting stones of the angry residents of Budapest. It is the story behind the club's name and colours, the building of Old Trafford, the founding of the PFA and the creation of the Academy. It's filled with tales that will fascinate and entertain. Happy end of the Premier League season. Manchester United climb above Newcastle in the campaign’s final week to finish third after entertaining but unpolished victories over Chelsea and then Fulham. Erik ten Hag’s post-match message was clear: there is one game to go.
On this bitesize start-of-the-week episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss United’s final two league games, consider how close United Women came to a first WSL title and a couple of other bits and bobs. Later in the week, the two Reds will take some more time to preview Saturday’s FA Cup Final.

Harry Robinson talks live from Old Trafford with Stretford End season ticket holder Nathan Thomas, who has spent the last few years working for the Manchester United Foundation. The two Reds review United’s performance at half-time and full-time, revelling in an unpolished but highly enjoyable victory that secures Erik ten Hag’s side qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Nathan also discusses which United players have stood out for their Foundation work, including one Brazilian midfielder’s recent attempts at a distinctly non-Brazilian sport!

Manchester United need only one point to secure UEFA Champions League qualification via a Premier League top-four finish after results elsewhere went in their favour and a piece of Brazilian brilliance from Casemiro enabled victory away at AFC Bournemouth.
In the Women's Super League, United Women scored in injury time to keep the title race alive and achieve a first league victory over rivals Manchester City.
There's plenty to talk about.
In our bonus Q&A available exclusively for Patreons, we try to name as many of Sir Alex Ferguson's final matchday squad a decade on, discuss Weghorst and Sabitzer's future, strikers, and how United can possibly overcome this City juggernaut in the FA Cup final.

On a glorious sunny Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford and in a rare 3pm kick-off, Manchester United delivered with 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho sealing a deserved victory in a must-win game as the Reds close in on that top four spot in the Premier League and Champions League qualification.
Three games remain, away at Bournemouth and at home to West London duo Fulham and Chelsea. Two more victories will secure it. If they are as comfortable as Saturday, that’ll do. Wolves hadn’t a single shot on target while United had nine, and should have scored more. Erik ten Hag aptly reviewed: “Again we make the goalie of the opposition the man of the match.”
Down at Wembley on Sunday, things were not so rosy. A world record crowd watched Manchester United Women’s first FA Cup final but the Reds couldn’t convert a dominant, expectation-shattering first-half display into an advantage and instead it was relentless winners Chelsea who were clinical and won it 1-0 with Sam Kerr scoring in a third consecutive FA Cup final. When the tears dry a little, attention will turn to the WSL title race between the same two sides.
On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Women’s FA Cup Final (1-10 minutes), the men’s victory over Wolves (10-35 minutes), the end to the Academy season, some loanee highlights and loads more. Enjoy the show!
In the Patreon-only Q&A, we talk Harry Kane, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Champions League qualification is edging closer. A disheartening draw at Tottenham Hotspur threatened to derail matters slightly but a well-deserved victory at home to high-flying Aston Villa restores Manchester United’s grip on a spot in the Premier League’s top four, captain Bruno Fernandes scoring the decisive goal.
United Women took on Villa, too, in a brilliant weekend for the club all round, Millie Turner scoring a 93rd-minute winner to maintain United’s title hopes and keep them three points clear at the top of the Women’s Super League.
The U21s played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Spurs while the U18s’ frenetic late season fixture schedule continued with a thrilling 4-3 win away at Sunderland including another goal for the exciting young prospect Shea Lacey.
All of that is reviewed on the latest Manchester United Weekly Podcast with hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. Enjoy the show!

Bald is best!
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait revel in penalty shoot-out victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley that has earned Manchester United a spot in 3 June's FA Cup final.
It felt for a long time like a game set to be decided by a moment of genius or a mistake, and that was the case. United’s penalties were infallible. Brighton... well, they eventually missed.
It’s been quite the week. The most disheartening of performances and defeats in Seville sent us out of the Europa League, and then this.
Also in today's episode, news of defeats for the U21s, back-to-back wins for the U18s and a huge update in the WSL title race. Plus plenty of noise from a euphoric Wembley.

On a Premier League weekend with more banana skins than Mario Kart, injury-struck Manchester United avoided theirs away at Nottingham Forest. Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen — a late addition to the starting line-up — purred in midfield. Antony's tenacity and confidence have earned them the plaudits, as well as a good goal and a fine assist. Now Erik Ten Hag’s side travel to Sevilla requiring victory to reach the Europa League semi-finals. They’ll return to England straight after and prepare for an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley against perhaps the in-form team of English football: Brighton.
Round one of the United v. Brighton FA Cup semi-final has gone to the red corner. Manchester United Women made history on Saturday evening. It was difficult but in a classic cup tie, Marc Skinner’s side prevailed thanks to a clinical Rachel Williams finish, a 3-2 victory taking them to their first-ever major final where they’ll face Chelsea in mid-May.
On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait, we talk about all of the above, play guess the player, review an U18s Manchester derby, discuss relegation for one loanee and goals for two others and answer questions in a free bonus Q&A about Victor Osimhen, injuries, rotation, Maguire and loads more.

Club football returned, but Manchester United seemed to miss the memo. A poor performance at St. James’ Park is rewarded with defeat. Erik Ten Hag’s substitutions came under fire, and so did most of the team’s players. Newcastle leapfrog the one and only United into third. Much work to be done.

It’s far from the perfect bounce back, but Manchester United have not crumbled after that harrowing Anfield defeat. A confident dismantling of Real Betis in the UEFA Europa League was the key, and the Reds really should have scored six or seven. When Southampton came to town, there can be few complaints that the team failed to score. United simply didn’t create enough. A disappointing 0-0 draw against a poor side, and a quite forgettable match, but one that does tell us plenty about this team, and that’s what your hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait analyse on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week.
The two Reds consider United’s faults and talk about Casemiro’s red card and a couple of other controversial decisions. They take a moment to remember Ian Stirling, a giant of Manchester United’s support who sadly died at the weekend. Then there's a review of the win over Real Betis in brief, a preview the second leg in Seville, your regular Academy, loan and United Women updates, and a new round of Guess the Player.
In the middle of the show, our brilliant Patrons will get their bonus Q&A, in which Harry and Jack play a schoolyard-style pick-up game to try and pick the best United team. A painfully historic defeat. Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United. There are bad days at the office, and there is your joint-heaviest ever defeat. What a uniquely terrible match and moment in this season. Nevertheless, on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, we get it all off our chests and move on as United look at setting ourselves up for Europa League progression having already won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup quarter-finals.
We know it was bad, but we’ll be considering exactly what happened because don’t get it wrong, this wasn’t like the 4-0 at Brentford or even the 6-3 at City, and it certainly wasn’t like last season’s harrowing defeats to Liverpool home and away. And that’s why it feels different. So what is different about it? And why do we get the sense that this wasn’t just bad, but utterly, utterly bizarre? That’s what we’ll be trying to answer. And then we’ll give you your regular, extensive updates on the Academy, players out on loan and United Women, who had a highly contrasting weekend with a thumping win to extend their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League. We’ll then preview Thursday night’s match against Real Betis of Seville and La Liga.

The march with Erik’s army continues. Manchester United are on a roll. An impressive performance at the Nou Camp on Thursday evening is followed up with a dominant, purring second-half spell that saw the Reds roll over Leicester City for a 3-0 win. Two goals from Marcus Rashford and another from Jadon Sancho. That’ll do.
On the Manchester United Weekly Podcast today, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review Sunday afternoon’s win, talking Rashford, Weghorst’s contrasting performance and plenty more. We’ll consider how United are still in with a chance in four competitions. And of course, we’ll preview Thursday night. Barcelona. Old Trafford.
We’ll also talk briefly, and only briefly because there is a long way still to go, about the club’s ownership.
In the middle of the show, you’ll get your extensive Academy and loans update.

A controlled, dominant and exciting Manchester United display unravelled before our very eyes after a Casemiro sending off, and yet the result remained intact. Against the very opposition this side had gifted away a valuable two points less than a month ago, the Reds held out. A relentless display of grit and determination in trying circumstances. What had looked like a comfortable home victory against out-of-form lesser opposition instead now represents an impressive test of character. United the victors over Crystal Palace, and that belief thing, well, it keeps on growing.

What lessons can Manchester United take from Brighton's new star Kauro Mitoma and Arsenal's pursuit of the Seagulls' midfielder Moises Caicedo? That's one discussion of many in the latest Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.
The two Reds react to a 3-1 victory over Reading in the FA Cup at Old Trafford which sees Erik Ten Hag's side through to the Fifth Round. Ten Hag is the first United manager in history to win his first six domestic cup matches. They listen to some wonderful Beatles-inspired commentary of Casemiro's lovely second goal and discuss the Brazilian's influence on Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Antony's excellent assist and progress. Christian Eriksen left M16 on crutches on Saturday night, so what would his absence mean for the team?
Answering questions from the podcast's Patrons, Harry and Jack determine how much credit is due to United's way for the signings made last summer and whether the Reds should make a move for Brighton's Mitoma, or whether his good form can give the club a different lesson entirely.
The boys play guess the player and provide an extensive youth, loan and United Women round-up with cup progress for Marc Skinner's side, two lovely goals for the U21s and a potential move away for FA Youth Cup-winning striker Charlie McNeill in League Two.

26:50 Patreon question: How much credit does the new behind-the-scenes structure at United deserve for recent transfers? Obviously, Casemiro was sensational on Saturday and Ten Hag can take a lot of credit for the team's good form but overall singings have been pretty good so far this season- I even think Weghorst is a really good short-term solution/ squad player. (From Ted Popham, Patron since *)
32:25 Patreon question: Finally a question about my favourite non-United player to watch at the moment, Mitoma. How good do you think he is/could be? I really love watching him play and would love to see United get him instead of another top 6 club. If United were to get him, would he be a good signing? He could give squad depth plus competition for spaces- the type of signing City make all the time. Or do we already have too many left-wingers, especially with Garnacho needing game time? You might have noticed we've not been releasing much over the last couple of weeks. Or you might not have noticed, it has been Christmas after all! Anyway, here's a very brief message from Harry Robinson to explain why we've been unable to record and when we're back. This isn't the Manchester Evening News, so no clickbait here... we'll be back on Wednesday 11 January after the League Cup quarter-final against Charlton Athletic. We can't wait!

A very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
On today's Manchester United Weekly Podcast, host Harry Robinson reviews an impressively comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. The incessant drumming rain weighing down Old Trafford was hardly festive, but it's a second good win on the bounce since the return to club football.
It’s a particularly tricky time to record a football podcast, because fixtures are relentless, and gaps in the schedule are very few, as well as time to find with family commitments, so it’s just Harry again this week, without regular co-host Jack Tait, with a brief review of the Forest victory, and some thoughts on Cody Gakpo’s transfer to Liverpool.
In the background is noise from Old Trafford, from 20 minutes before kick-off through to Rashford and Martial's first-half goals, hopefully it can give those of you who can’t make it to games regularly a little taste of home.

Ah, the World Cup! It is the most brilliant event on the planet. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait revel in an excellent start for United's players, most notably Marcus Rashford, but Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro and Harry Maguire, too. They talk about fan culture of Australians, Americans, Argentinians, and other countries not beginning with A. They talk about the refereeing, and about the damage to FIFA's reputation from the last fortnight, as well as Qatar's. A six-goal pulsating second half sees Manchester United run out 4-2 winners and seal progression to the next round of the League Cup, where the Reds will play Burnley. After a sloppy first 45 minutes sorely lacking in quality, the second half exploded into life as Villa twice took the lead before Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho propelled United to a morale-boosting victory. Jack Tait hosts from Chicago, with thoughts and sounds from Harry Robinson at Old Trafford. The two Reds consider Garnacho's electric performance, a new Lisandro Martinez song, why United started so poorly, the improvement in the second half and much more. Learn more about your ad choices. Manchester United’s busiest-ever October caught up with them as November began. A 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad was not enough to leapfrog the Basques, and so Erik ten Hag’s United face a play-off with Barcelona in February to progress into the Europa League round of 16. Two early goals conceded at Villa Park made it an unsurmountable challenge in the Midlands, and one United were hardly going to live up to anyway. A first defeat in some weeks is a bringing back down to earth. But has it taught us anything new? That's what hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss in this episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. Manchester boy Marcus Rashford scores his 100th Manchester United goal the day before his 25th birthday. It’s some achievement for a truly admirable young man who is making the most of his talent and his platform. Today on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are reflecting on that, but also, of course, the victory that Marcus’s goal gave the Reds, a 1-0 win over David Moyes’s West Ham, a result that leaves Erik ten Hag’s United fifth in the Premier League with a game-in-hand on the two teams above, Spurs and Newcastle. After Harry and Jack review Sunday’s game, they preview a big Europa League night in San Sebastian, Spain, with Real Sociedad set to prove tough opponents in the final game of the group stages. In the middle of the show, you’ll get your youth, loan and women’s round-up, and we’ll be playing guess the player again throughout the episode. Casemiro’s uncontrollable roar of delight, Bruno Fernandes’ punch of the air, Lisandro Martinez’s leap into the Manchester United away end. A draw, yes, but a set of raucous celebrations that told a bigger story, of how this United team under Erik ten Hag has come together, and of how this team is restoring a connection with the club’s supporters that was lost so painfully last season. On this Tuesday edition of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review a 1-1 draw at Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge. They talk about what bits of excellence from United forced Blues boss Graham Potter into a first-half tactical change, why Martinez and Luke Shaw stood out and how the team must improve in attack. Later in the show, you’ll get your regular, extensive women’s, youth and loan round-up. And then the Reds preview Thursday’s must-win UEFA Europa League match against Moldovan champions FC Sheriff. What is it about October? The ghouls come out to play again as Manchester United are beaten 6-3 in the derby. In 2020, it was 6-1 to Tottenham, in 2021, 5-0 to Liverpool and in 2022, this. Can we skip it this time next year? In the end, three second-half goals, a stunner from Antony and a double off the bench from Anthony Martial, reduced the humiliation of this particular Etihad trip. But only a little. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review that match, analysing where Erik ten Hag got it wrong in how United set up, but also how the players let themselves and the club down again. September draws to a close and here comes October 2022, genuinely one of the busiest months in the 120-year history of Manchester United. Nine games to come in the Premier League, UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup. First up, Manchester City at the Etihad in the 2pm Sunday kick-off.
Today on the show, we’re previewing Sunday’s match against City with the significant helping hand of Michael Plant, journalist at Manchester World who covers the clubs from both M16 and M11.
Michael will give us his insight into how Erik ten Hag’s first few months at United have progressed and tell us whether he’s seen any teams this season manage to nullify Erling Haaland, who has monstrously racked up the goals for our local rivals so far.
Later in the show, Harry Robinson is joined as always by cohost Jack Tait to talk about the game in further detail as we decide on our starting XIs, tactics and look ahead to this nine-game month of October. There’ll also be a youth and women’s round-up midway through the show. Enjoy!

Would be slightly confused if he starts again against Sheriff considering we’ve just loaned in a very capable deputy.”
55:10 Korey Lennox: “I’m back again 🤣 Thoughts/feelings that Greenwood might return to the squad? Not sure how to feel about it.”
56:30 Ted Popham: “With all the VAR issues, especially the clear and obvious debate. Or a different method?”

Manchester United showed ruthless precision in a fixture once famous for its intensity but that for many years had declined into irrelevance. Sunday saw a 3-1 victory over Arsenal thanks to a double from Marcus Rashford, following up on his goal against Liverpool. The atmosphere at Old Trafford, primarily due to those two games, but also two wins on the road, has changed enormously. The team and the mood is unrecognisable. Three wins on the bounce for Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and 20th place seems a far-off place now. The Reds are in fifth, which matters very little - it’s only just turned from August to September. What matters are performances, good results and the mood. That mood is good.

After a momentous and quite unbelievable victory against Liverpool, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait revel in this brilliant, brilliant win.
They review United's 2-1 victory against Liverpool at a properly raucous, baying Old Trafford. They talk about that wild atmosphere, Erik ten Hag’s tactics and set-up, changes to De Gea’s role, a renewed and revitalised back four, the energy and spirit showed by a set of players some of whom seemed destined for the scrap pile. They then talk about what this really means: how replicable is this performance going forward? How does Casemiro come into this? Do Maguire and Ronaldo regain their places, and if so when?
In the middle of the show Harry gives you a youth, loan and women’s round-up as the conquering Lionesses return to the club for pre-season games against PSG and Bayern Munich and the U18s kick off their season. They talk about rumours on a potential investor to the club in Sir Jim Ratcliffe and what it means to the Glazer family’s ownership. Finally, a preview of Monday’s match against Liverpool.

In Part Two of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast’s season preview, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait first reflect on a magical Wembley night for England’s Lionesses. United’s Ella Toone scored a stunning goal in 2-1 European Championship final victory over Germany. Alessia Russo and Mary Earps also made key contributions.
We review a double game weekend as United took on Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano in Oslo and Manchester respectively. We’ll talk about the performances of new signings Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen, an exciting display from Alejandro Garnacho. We’ll talk about Cristiano Ronaldo, about Erik ten Hag’s use of the full-backs, about how the defensive structure has altered so far. It’s time for the Manchester United Weekly Podcast’s season review of 2021/22. In this two-parter, we’ll first be looking back at the campaign just gone, our favourite moments - and there were some - goals and players. We’ll consider, with a bit of hindsight, where it went wrong for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and then where it went wrong for his interim successor Ralf Rangnick. We’ll compare the 21/22 defence to that of the season before, and the same for the attack, considering how the team’s style changed under Ole and then Ralf, and we’ll talk about a flurry of departures.
Note: We ran out of time to really dive into how much we love Juan Mata. What a great man. He will be missed in Manchester and at Manchester United.

Regular co-host Jack Tait is away this week and no one wanted to talk about Saturday's game (or presumably listen too) so we're skipping over that... for now. We'll come back to more depressing first team matters soon, but for now, here's to supporting the young Reds!
Scott McTominay apologised to Manchester United's travelling support at the Emirates. And too right. United were rubbish again and lost. The second half performance was one of the better showings of recent weeks, but that's more down to how bad the team has been in other games. United lost 3-1 and look set for the Europa Conference League. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait reflect on all that, the debut of a referee's microphone in the WSL and give a youth, loan and women's round-up with news of a Monaco trip for the U23s, four clean sheets in a row for one young 'keeper and further Champions League disappointment for Marc Skinner's team.

With the number of players that look set to leave this summer, it seems like we may need to rely on some academy players playing a role in the first team.
Which players do you think have the best chance of breaking into the first team next season? The two that I would like to see are Hannibal and Laird, possibly Garner as well.
Korey Lennox
Don’t really want to speak about the match if I’m honest. Reports are coming in of a “revolution” this summer. Could be 6 to TEN new players coming in. How realistic do you think this is and anyone, in particular, you’d like it to be?

Two in a row, against Aston Villa. We've won the first one, although hardly convincingly, and so Man Utd are through to the FA Cup Fourth Round, where we'll face Middlesbrough at home.
Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk about a game we won - which we should be happy about - but where there were many issues to dissect. Well, you know what we're going to talk about it. An utterly dominant City walk to victory at Old Trafford. They hardly had to try. Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the 2020/21 season for Manchester United.
A season which began and ended with disappointment, but in between came the chaos, of a football season like no other in which at times Manchester United thrived, and at other times they drooped. Chaos of a 6-1 defeat and a 9-0 victory, victory in Paris and defeat in Istanbul, a thumping of Leeds, wins at City, last-minute blocks, 40-yard lobs, Cup disappointment, penalty shoot-out despondency. And in the end, when it finally came to its conclusion after 61 games, fans had finally returned. It's been some season, a long old slog at times, welcome to our season review on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. Thanks for joining us.
We'll be discussing the season in general, how we could rate it out of 10, what we understand Manchester United to be after another trophyless season but a second consecutive top four finish, we'll be handing out awards of best player, goals, worst moment etc. We'll remember things that happened this season that we'd forgotten, I'll give you a round-up of the seasons for the U23s and the U18s as well as the loan players in the middle of the show before we talk about next season. What do we expect from our PL rivals, what do we expect from Utd, what does Solskjaer need to do in the transfer market and what would be a good season. There's plenty to dive into.

One single kick of a ball, the power to change the world. Not quite so dramatic in Gdansk, but still one single kick of the ball, by a goalkeeper of all people, had the power to change things at United. The power to make this week a special one, full of celebration for United and us as fans. It wasn't to be. The reality was win for United in a 22-penalty shoot-out and a poor performance would have been papered over. Lose and a poor performance would draw instant over-reactions from all corners. We try to steer clear of that.
We'll be reviewing the season as a whole in some detail in the next week or so, looking at the big picture, what this season really deserves in our memories, what it tells us about the future under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and we'll preview the summer, outline our thoughts on the transfer window, the young players breaking through and what the team needs. But that'll all come in a week or so, for now we just focus on the game and rather than getting caught in a roundabout of disappointment and regret, let's go through it a bit systematically, beginning with the team selection...
Manchester United travel to Gdansk, Poland to take on La Liga side Villarreal in the UEFA Europa League Final. It'll be a chance for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to win his first trophy as manager of the club and an opportunity for the Reds to lift major European silverware for the sixth time in the club's history. There is much to discuss.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait first talk about the significance of the before they're joined by Jamie Kemble, a British Villarreal fan who offers insight into what is a small-town club with a real family feel to it. Jamie provides some insight into Unai Emery's tactics, the Yellow Submarine's stand-out players, including Pau Torres and Gerard Moreno.
After chatting to Jamie, the boys talk about the absence of Harry Maguire, a possible 3-4-3 formation that Ole could deploy and then talk about where they'll be watching the game with tales of airport football. Enjoy the show!
Three games without a win for Manchester United as the 2020/21 season begins to come to its conclusion. Second place is confirmed, a European final awaits but the true focus of this week is on the return of fans to Old Trafford after 436 days. The return of raw emotion, shared celebrations, of real football. It was amazing to be back.
Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss a 1-1 draw with Fulham and look ahead to the next week.

Plus there's talk about a potential 4-3-3 and your regular youth, loan and women's round-up.

In the bonus Q&A, we talk Eric Bailly, Jose Mourinho and Bruno Fernandes.
Harry and Jack dissect the recent news, first with an accidental 10-minute monologue from Harry (feel free to skip!) and then a 20-minute discussion between them both on the 'Super' League and its significance. It's not positive!

Has Solskjaer changed the culture at United? That's what one of our Patrons, Lars, asked this week. In Series 6 Episode 33 of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait answer that question throughout while reviewing a hugely satisfying 3-1 away win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds overcome 180 minutes of frustrating officiating to complete a fantastic week for the club with an away victory in Spain in the Europa League as well as that win in north London.
Harry and Jack review the two performances, discuss Cavani, Pogba, Henderson's influence and decisiveness and loads more in a packed episode of the pod.
In the middle of the show, Harry gives you your regular and extensive youth, loan and women's round-up.

39:30 Outro and bonus Q&A
Manchester United beat Brighton 2-1 at the weekend and all through goals were scored by graduates of the club's academy. Somehow we forgot to mention that during the episode. We also forgot to talk about Dat Guy Welbz. We don't know. To make up for it, we've mentioned it in the title and the description of the show. Sorry Danny, we still love you! (And Marcus and Mason too, both great finishes!)
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait do talk about loads of other stuff, including Wan-Bissaka, Greenwood's development, United's tempo, van de Beek's movement, Cavani's future and Harry gives you an update on the women's team's progress as well as James Garner who has now scored in consecutive games for Nottingham Forest.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review Manchester United's 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
It was an opportunity to follow up an impressive Europa League win in Milan with further Cup progress but it was not an opportunity that United took.
Harry gives you the lowdown on the U23s, U18s, women's team and loanees as Garner captains Forest, Stoney rues defeat to Arsenal and Galbraith is sent off.

Manchester United are stuttering through the months of February and March but moved back into the Premier League's top 2 with a 1-0 home win vs West Ham that followed a gutting late draw with AC Milan at home.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review those two games, look ahead to the second leg against Milan and provide your regular, extensive youth, loan and women's round-up in the middle of the show.
Manchester United followed up a dreary Wednesday night in South London with a firey start away to rivals Manchester City. Bruno Fernandes put United in front after 2 minutes and the Reds followed it up in the second half with a wonderful goal from Luke Shaw, the club's best player of 2021 and perhaps one of the league's best too. As the sun set on Manchester on Sunday night, the city was red, for a time at least. City are still top of the league, and by some distance, but derby victory provides a boost for confidence, for momentum and for morale going into a tough run of fixtures for a United side who had struggled to create before this 2-0 win at the Etihad.
This week on the Manchester United Weekly Podcas with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait, we're reviewing games against City and Palace, discussing the wider context of the recent happenings at United and providing you with an extensive youth, loan and women's round-up. Casey Stoney's side won 3-0 and James Garner received high praise from Chris Hughton. At the end of the show, we looked ahead to games against AC Milan and West Ham before Patrons get a bonus Q&A after we wrap things up in which we'll talk Ole's tactics, Varane and more. Manchester United are held by Real Sociedad but progress in the Europa League with a tasty tie against AC Milan to follow and then fail to score against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. That result leaves United second in the Premier League and looking down rather than up, one point ahead of Leicester, four ahead of West Ham and six ahead of Chelsea. It's a decent position but it feels like yet another missed opportunity and yet another underwhelming game from a United who have rarely impressed since the turn of the year.
In this episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Chelsea game, provide you with your regular youth, loan and women's round-up and look ahead to games against Crystal Palace and Manchester City.

As we're teased with the end of lockdown 3 in Britain, Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continue to provide wins to help with the mood. One of those wins was an excellent dispatching of good Spanish side Real Sociedad, played in Turin in the UEFA Europa League. The second was less convincing but no less important, a 3-1 victory against Newcastle which puts United in a great position in the Premier League.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are talking both of those games and previewing the second leg against Real Sociedad. As always, there's you extensive youth loan and women's round-up in the middle of the show where Harry talks Isak Hansen-Aaroen, loan moves aplenty and more.

It's a slog of a season. Game after game. After the woeful start in September and October, Manchester United grew to be excellent at winning against the 'bottom 14'. Not anymore. A 1-1 draw to West Brom follows shock defeat to Sheffield United and a draw to Everton and now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will have to do something they've been unable to do in the league this season, beat fellow members of the top six to make up for dropped points. With upcoming games against Chelsea and Manchester City, the opportunity will be there to do so. It's a set-back for United and for Solskjaer, not one that requires an inquisition into the whole team, club and coaching staff, but one which disappoints and frustrates. United were passive at the Hawthorns, in defence and attack, and they left with a point when they deserved little more.
Welcome back to the Manchester United Weekly Podcast where the mood can be summed up by a comment sent in by one of our Patrons, Michael Byerts, who said, "is there anything more to be said after that than uggghhhh?"
But, there is. A little. We're talking West Brom, West Ham, the FA Cup and in the middle of the show, before a preview of Thursday's Europa League game against Real Sociedad, you'll get your extensive youth, loan and women's round-up. Shola Shoretire and Joe Hugill are amongst the goals again while badge-kissing Charlie McNeill scores four in the Manchester derby.

Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait consider a week of mixed emotions for Manchester United. It was a week of football which, had it ended only 20 seconds earlier, would have been quite brilliant - a 9-0 win against Southampton followed by victory against Everton. But Dominic Calvert-Lewin's late equaliser condemned United to a late sour taste and made it a good and memorable week but not a brilliant one, particularly in the light of victories for Manchester City.
Harry and Jack talk about the two games, De Gea and plenty more.

The reality check we expected hit home hard in a week where Manchester United took one point away from games against bottom-placed Sheffield United and Arsenal. It leaves United trailing City at the top of the table by three points with Pep Guardiola's team still holding a game-in-hand.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait look back at two very disappointing results.
We'll also give you your regular youth, loan and women's round-up. There's loads to talk about. Teden Mengi is heading out on loan, Garner and Chong have switched clubs and a 17-year-old scored four goals in the under-23s. Oh, and Amad Diallo made his first appearance for United.
Some days in football give you everything you crave. Others don't. At Anfield a week ago, a 0-0 draw left you craving more, craving that release of energy and tension that a goal brings. At Old Trafford in the FA Cup, one of the country's most historic fixtures delivered in buckets. It excited and entertained and most importantly, Manchester United won. 22 years on from the day that an Ole Gunnar Solskjaer late winner against Liverpool had continued United's treble dreams, this time it was Bruno Fernandes to arrive off the bench and provide that moment we craved.
Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk Liverpool, the FA Cup, Solskjaer, Cavani, Rashford, Pogba, Bruno, Greenwood and loads more. There's your youth, loan and women's round-up and there's a free-access Patreon bonus Q&A where there's discussion on Van de Beek, Greenwood, favourite players and chants. There's also an extensive youth, loan and women's round-up which includes some analysis on Ethan Laird, United's young right-back who has headed out on loan to MK Dons.

Happy New Year Reds, and happy three points. Manchester United, the in-form team of the country. Entertaining, consistent. Winning! It's brilliant.
Welcome to the Manchester United Weekly Podcast in 2021 with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait. A hard-fought, close defensive clash that went United's way against Wolves - the most boring team in the league - is followed by a genuinely brilliant and entertaining, end-to-end win against Aston Villa. Two teams who are fun to watch right now producing one of the most compelling, quality behind-closed-doors games of the COVID era.
Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk through a whole load of topics. Villa, Wolves, outstanding Pogba, revived Shaw, brilliant Bruno, nose-breaking Martial, blocking Bailly, excellent Ole, banned Cavani plus loads more including Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri.

Review of a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig and previewing Saturday's game vs City.
"In the two days since we last spoke to you, things have changed. A cautiously positive narrative has very quickly been replaced by despair. Paul Pogba's agent, Mino Raiola, or, to put it in Ferguson's words, the 'shitbag', jumped at the chance to remind everyone that Pogba doesn't want to be at United after his client put in one slightly better than average display against West Ham. And then a rampant opening quarter of an hour from Julien Nagalsmann's RB Leipzig exposed every single one of Manchester United's weaknesses. The previously in-form Harry Maguire was guilty of gifting goals away again through his positioning. Luke Shaw returned from injury to do the same. United's midfield without Pogba, who was on the bench, and Fred, who was suspended, could not cope. United's defence looked short of confidence and quality in the fact of a well-drilled attack with a very specific knowledge of how they wanted to score goals. At the other end, United broke into space through the Leipzig back line and either missed the chance or misplayed the final ball. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was so emphatically out-thought by a much younger manager in Nagelsmann that even after 12 minutes, the conversation about his future had been restarted.
And the shame is that still, in the face of all this, United almost came from behind. Only a third goal from Leipzig, also terribly defended, left that task too great and now Manchester United are out of the Champions League.
The truth is that United didn't go out because of defeat in Leipzig. It was because of the away loss to Basaksehir, an inexplicable defeat. But after winning away in Paris and thrashing Leipzig 5-0, United have gone out. That should be inexplicable but it isn't. It's through bad performances and bad maangement."

Death, taxes, putting on a mask, washing your hands and Manchester United coming from behind to win away from home. That's life in autumn 2020. Welcome to the Manchester United Weekly Podcast where, yes, we are yet again talking about the world's most confusing football team. Shambolic in the first half, intense and stylish in the second. 3-1 winners against West Ham. The scoreline was the other way round when United hosted PSG in midweek.
We're dissecting both games, their wider implications and what they mean going forward for United.
As always, I'll bring you your regular youth, loan and women's round-up in a spectacularly good weekend for United. Wins all round, near or top of the league for all. Here that at about 25 minutes or so.

"Sometimes in football you have to hold your hand up and say, yeah, they're better than us." Those are the old words of Sir Alex Ferguson. But this is also a man who openly admitted, time after time, "I don't like losing" and said "I tell the players that the bus is moving. This club has to progress. And the bus wouldn't wait for them. I tell them to get on board."
The greatest football manager of his era, Fergie is remembered for the victories, an insatiable desire to win, a commitment to glory so thorough and disciplined that he saw off rivals in all shapes, sizes and forms.
But what about the defeats? Because there were many. 271 to be precise. Well, Ferguson himself has said the following.
"Losing is a powerful management tool so long as it does not become a habit."
"You learn more from defeats than you do from victories"
In a new book titled Even the Defeats, journalist John Silk tells the story of how the painful moments of Sir Alex Ferguson's reign at Man Utd inspired him to lead the club to its greatest successes.
Beginning with a 5-1 loss at Manchester City and ending with the final Premier League title, the book looks at what was perhaps Ferguson's greatest strength: dealing and overcoming adversity. With views from players, coaches and other members of the staff, Even the Defeats comes out in the next few weeks and I'm pleased to be joined by the author, John Silk, to talk about Ferguson, those defeats and the book.
John is a journalist working for Deutsche Welle. He's covered sports and international affairs for more than a decade and has followed United for 40 years.

Off the pitch, Marcus Rashford is still leading a campaign to end child hunger. Hundreds of cafes, restaurants and businesses across the country are taking on the challenge themselves to help feed children during the upcoming October half-term after the government voted against continuing free school meals into the holidays. He's a national hero. On the pitch, it was Rashford who came up with a powerful and accurate late strike to give Manchester United a sweet and brilliant victory at the Parc des Princes against Paris Saint-Germain. He almost followed it up with another match-winner, against Chelsea on Saturday evening. But the Londoners new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy came up big with two crucial saves and United were held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.
It's been a good week overall for United. A 4-1 win against Newcastle, a 2-1 win against PSG and a frustrating 0-0 draw against Chelsea. Perhaps the latter is a missed chance to carry on some very good momentum. But United's season has properly started now. Welcome to the Manchester United Weekly Podcast and S6 E7. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review the Premier League season. It's over! After 350 days of action, the most remarkable league campaign of our lifetimes comes to an end and Manchester United have finished third. That's pretty remarkable too since the Reds were on track for a mid-table finish in January. But plenty of factors turned things around and there's loads to talk about.
If you enjoy the show, leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. It helps a lot. A few of you have done so recently. I forgot to give you a shoutout on the episode this week but thank you. I'll do it next week instead. I really do appreciate it.

Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait have plenty to talk about. A whole host of woeful individual mistakes against Chelsea. Manchester United are out of the FA Cup.
There's plenty more and a big update on a number of transfers for the club's academy.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait mourn the end of Manchester United's winning streak. The Reds drew 2-2 with Southampton on Monday night and threw away the opportunity to climb to third in the Premier League table. The question of a top four finish remains one which United can decide themselves. It's in their hands. Win all their games and United will finish fourth at the least.
But there's plenty to talk about in a packed episode where we dissect the draw with Southampton, answer a whole host of questions from listeners and preview another big week, a league game against Palace and then the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk about Mason Greenwood. We all know he's great but what is it that he can improve on? What is it that we haven't seen from this boy wonder yet? Well, there's more to come even though he's been completely ridiculous already.
So on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast this week we talk about Greenwood, his double for United in a 5-2 win against AFC Bournemouth. We talk about the front line, whether United should prioritise the signing of a right winger or a centre-back. We talk about Axel Tuanzebe, Harry Maguire and more. We talk about Nemanja Matic's contract extension. And more. Etc. There's a lot to talk about it. And most of it is positive!

Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait hail Marcus Rashford with as many superlatives as they can find for his work during the coronavirus pandemic and his raising of awareness about the hunger struggles that millions of children face in England each week.
But football is back as well, so we throw things back quickly to United's last league game against City to give ourselves a refresher (McTominay scored and Old Trafford erupted) before giving our thoughts on how the Premier League has returned, whether it's the right thing and what we've made of the Bundesliga's return.
We also talk about the FA Cup and Europa League and preview United's first game in 3 months, against Spurs on Friday night at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk about racism in football, and wider society, in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Lives Matter protests.

Harry Robinson is joined by Barney Chilton, editor of Red News, to discuss Manchester United's 3-1 win at Arsenal back in 2009. It was a UEFA Champions League semi-final and Cristiano Ronaldo put his name in the headlines again with two brilliant goals.

It's April 29th and on this day in 2008, Old Trafford rocked, 75,000 inside the stadium injected with the rare but wonderful drug of a Champions League semi-final night for the ages. Paul Scholes' hammered half-volley lifted the famous old ground off its foundations and Manchester United secured their place in the 2008 UEFA Champions League final, an all-English final, to be played in Moscow, Russia.
This is Much-Cited United on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with me Harry Robinson. Today I'm joined by Barney Chilton, editor of Red News, United's longest-running fanzine, and Guardian journalist and author, and United fan, Daniel Harris. Enjoy the show.
It's April 28th and on this day in 2007, Manchester United came from behind to beat Everton 4-2 on Merseyside. Goodison Park was filled by celebrations that signalled something more than just a great, great match.

Our guest for this episode is Daniel Harris, writer for the Guardian and of many books. He was also the creative producer for BUSBY, a magnificent recent film on the great United boss.
Daniel talks to host Harry Robinson about that night at Old Trafford, the quality of Scholes and Rooney, why this United side was much better to watch than the 2008-Champions League winning outfit and why it didn't quite manage to win the treble.

It has no real effect if you’re listening on a speaker or out of your phone. Only give it a go if you’re listening on a good pair of headphones. If they’re noise-cancelling - even better.

Exactly one year ago today, Manchester United were humiliated by Everton at Goodison Park. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer apologised to fans but it wasn't enough. This was one of the worst defeats for the club in Premier League history, at least.
With a year having passed and the pandemic-enforced break giving us a chance to reflect, Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss how Manchester United have progressed since that miserable day in Liverpool (more miserable than the others at least...)
We talk about the mentality of the squad, the transfers made and the players who have been sold.
We also choose one goal each to recommend you, the listener, to go and watch on YouTube to fill the time or distract yourself in these strange times. That's near the back end of the episode.
If you enjoy the show, please give us a review or share us with your mates. Cheers.
In the second episode of 'Much-Cited United', Harry Robinson looks at a European Cup semi-final between the 'worldly' Real Madrid of the 1950s and the Busby Babes.
It's April 11th and on this day in 1957, Sir Matt Busby took his young Manchester United side to play the European champions, Real Madrid. Los Blancos were too good for the Reds and won 3-1.
Through the lens of that game, Harry chats to the brilliant Roy Cavanagh MBE, an author of numerous football books, interviewer of United greats and United fan from birth. Roy remembers the 1956/57 season and takes us through United's first ever European campaign.
We talk Tommy Taylor, Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, Billy Whelan and more.
If you enjoy this show, we’d recommend buying and reading John Ludden’s brilliant book on United and Real Madrid’s relationship ‘A Tale of Two Cities’. Also look out for our partner podcast United Through Time - the Manchester United history podcast.

It’s April 10th and on this day in 2007, Sir Alex Ferguson’s young Manchester United side achieved a win of such great proportions that it was deemed “a feat that is without precedent and, quite possibly, beyond repetition.”
You’ll hear from legendary commentator Clive Tyldesley who has delivered so many iconic lines in Manchester United’s history. He was at Old Trafford on that night. You’ll hear clips not only from his commentary, but also from his recent interview with the Manchester United Weekly Podcast.

Manchester United have done the league double over rivals City. Anthony Martial has scored in both games but it was Scott McTominay whose late winner sparked wild scenes at Old Trafford.

As always we have our youth, loan, and women’s round-up.
A 1-1 draw with Everton followed a 5-0 thrashing of Club Brugge and both results leave plenty of questions to be asked by hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.
Should David de Gea leave to make way for young Dean Henderson, out on loan at Sheffield United? Or should United stay loyal to De Gea, the player with the 32nd most appearances in the club’s history?
Just how good has Bruno Fernandes been? Has any recent United signing come close to his instant impact?
Odion Ighalo’s first goal for United is revelled in and Scott McTominay’s return from injury is a boost.
As well as all of that, we preview upcoming matches in the FA Cup and Premier League, against Derby County (A) and Manchester City (H).
And in addition to ALL of that, we’ve got our regular and extensive youth and women’s round-up.

For the first time in nearly a decade, Manchester United score six goals in a single match, demolishing a poor Tranmere Rovers side and in doing so, bouncing back from a humiliating defeat to Burnley at home in midweek. We discuss both of those games and more on Series 5 Episode 24 of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.
As always there is our youth, loan and women’s round-up in the middle of the show but we begin by talking about a 6-0 win in the FA Cup. It’s been nine years since we’ve scored that many in a game, going back to the 8-2 win against Arsenal in August 2011.
Nothing is more humiliating or humbling than being somewhat pleased by a 2-0 loss to your biggest rivals, but that is where Manchester United are now. Who’s to blame? Well, we’ve heard it all before. This is a club that’s been dragged into this position by top level executives more interested in financial spreadsheets than silver trophies. We dissect that defeat at Anfield and more in Series 5 Episode 23 of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast with Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.

Four goals at Norwich put a plaster over the wounds, but don’t quite stitch them up. We discuss the latest ongoings at the club in S5 E22. As always, there’s our extensive youth, loan and women’s round-ups in the middle of the show. There’s also the small matter of a trip to Anfield to preview…
It’s 2020. Welcome to the New Year, the new decade and the fifth year of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. This is United we’re talking about. We go through the top goals, moments, games and signings of the decade as well as the worst five games and the signings we missed out on.

The nature of the festive period means it’s been three games since we last spoke. The first of those was a woeful 2-0 loss to Watford away from home but Solskjaer’s Reds followed it up with a 4-1 dismantling of Newcastle at home on Boxing Day and a reasonably comfortable 2-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor. We talk through those games, Dortmund’s signing of Erling Haaland and United’s next game away at Arsenal on New Year’s Day. Enjoy.

The paintbrush of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has daubed red over Manchester with wins against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. It’s arguably the best week of Solskjaer’s time in charge as he nears his one-year anniversary as United boss. It’s evidence as to why he is the right man for United. We’re talking about both of those impressive wins, certain players including an unstoppable Rashford and an in-form Fred and Scott McTominay. Plus we have our youth and women’s round-up as always on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your true love brings you 12 Cantonas.
A busy week for Manchester United in which things twisted and turned until we landed upon the man who put the ball in the German’s net. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - Manchester United manager. It sounds good. It looks good. And so does the football. A 5-1 victory against Cardiff City in the late kick-off on Saturday evening to start the festive period.
Mike Phelan is back at the club, too, and his United side have scored 5 goals in two consecutive games, 2043 days apart. The last game he was involved in was the 5-5 draw with West Brom.
It was our first time scoring five since that game and a day of happiness and relief. An exciting day. A day that doesn’t signal a huge turning point, it doesn’t mean everything will now be fine. We will lose games this season, and probably quite a few. We still probably won’t make top 4 or win a trophy, but the excitement is back, the mood has rocketed upwards and it’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s red army now, and that’s brilliant to say.
If you enjoy the show - leave us a review on iTunes please! Thanks and Merry Christmas. Love you all.

We made this montage after Wayne Rooney left Manchester United for Everton having just lifted the UEFA Europa League for the club, completing the club's, and his personal, trophy cabinet.

Maybe you fancy a listen just for nostalgia's sake.
Host Jack Tait reviews the 2-2 draws against Arsenal and Southampton, picking out some key performers in both a positive and negative sense

Manchester United are 13 points off the relegation zone and 14 off the top of the table. And yet this is the team who came from behind in Turin against the Champions League favourites. These players and this team are clearly not spineless, they clearly can be great, they can do great things and can show how much they care. But a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace really was deja vu, a flashback to every game against opposition of this standard.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss the result and look ahead to games against Valencia and Southampton as well as providing you with our regular extensive youth update as the U18s Manchester derby takes place.
If you enjoy the show, please leave us a review on iTunes to help more people find it. Cheers!

An amazing night in Turin. Manchester United’s biggest and best victory since Sir Alex Ferguson retired half a decade ago. The first time we have scored two goals in the final 5 minutes of a Champions League match since ’99.

Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait discuss whether Manchester United are accepting mediocrity in a number of sectors of the football club.
That question is raised in the backdrop of a win, a loss and a draw against Everton, Juventus and Chelsea respectively and the fact that defender Chris Smalling reached 300 games for the club on Sunday.
As always, we provide a youth and loan update and look ahead to next weekend's game.
Passion. Blood. Sweat. Tears. No, it’s not Andy Tate, but we saw some pride from the Manchester United players in a 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle on Saturday evening.
Friday evening saw reports come out that Jose Mourinho was set to be sacked regardless of the result against Newcastle. That hasn’t happened, obviously. But when United went two goals down within the opening 10 minutes, it looked quite possible. It was an abysmal start, but United scored three times in the last 25 minutes through Mata, Martial and Sanchez. If the conceding two goals within the space of three minutes was traditional of this season, the comeback was more traditional of one of Fergie’s United team.
We saw quality, determination, pride and effort. That we haven’t seen that all season is obviously a negative, but it’s a life line for Mourinho.
So we’re talking that, and as always we have our regular youth and loan round-up as we head into the international break.
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait talk about a Manchester United who is now full of “fear and predictability”. The hope is going. And so they choose who to blame. Jose Mourinho? The players? The board? Ed Woodward?

A salivating Manchester derby on Saturday is revelled in as Manchester United, through a Paul Pogba double, deny Manchester City the chance to win the title at home against their main rivals.

José Mourinho's men are not playing the way United should, nor are they winning. They're predictable and were naïve on Saturday in that 0-0 draw with West Brom, so say hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait.
They talk that, missing Paul Pogba, how the full-backs can show a team who is frustrated and Jack knowing Matty Willock, the academy player who made the bench on Saturday.
As well as all that, they preview Tuesday's game against Everton and Saturday's trip to Sunderland.
Of course, we also have our unparalleled youth and loan round-ups as the under-18s lose 4-3 to Chelsea and the under-16s finish 3rd at the Liam Brady Tournament. (Loan round-up was recorded before Andreas Pereira played for Granada against Barcelona, so there you go).

The Times' Chief Football Correspondent Oliver Kay joins Harry Robinson in a special edition of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast.Predominantly, they discuss Oli's new book, Forever Young. It is the story of Adrian Doherty, once regarded as "the new George Best" and "better than Ryan Giggs". In one of football's tragic stories, "the lost genius" was forced out of the game by a cruciate knee ligament injury. He left football entirely as his former friends, the Class of '92, were lifting Cup after Cup and League after League trophy. In June 2000, having moved to the Hague, Doherty slipped into a river and never woke again. His story is a sad one, but as Oliver Kay is keen to remind us, Doherty was a unique individual and while it is a sad story, it is fascinating. After discussing the book, they briefly discuss Manchester United and how the club also now fit "the lost genius" tag, although in a different way to Doherty.Forever Young, by Quercus Books, is released on May 19th. Order it hereFind us on Twitter:Harry RobinsonOliver KayPodcastThanks to Oliver Kay for his time. Apologies for the poor quality of sound in this episode.Ryan Giggs' words in the middle of the podcast are from BBC Newsline. The clip of Adrian Doherty singing in the podcast's outro are from YouTube.
